I would like to hear from people about their expectations when they see an
"Entry Level", "Jr. Level", "Mid Level" or "Sr. Level" in regards to
experience.

I have seen Entry/Jr. level postings that require a Bachlors or Masters with
1-3 years experience. Yet I have also seen "Sr. Level" postings that
require a minimum of 5 years. I am not sure how one goes from "Entry Level"
to "Sr. Level" in less than two years.

I also an not sure how an "entry level" canidate can have 1-3 years of
experience. 1-3 years of experience does not indicate in my mind someone
that is, or should be, "entry level". "Entry Level" in my mind would be
someone from 0-2 years of experience.

I primarly live on the hardware side of computers for my employment as I do
not have the experience or skills (yet) to be on the development side. I
enjoy doing development in my spare time as a hobby. On the hardware side I
have been working for over 11 years and find that getting a "Sr. Level"
possition is almost impossible even with 11+ years of experience.

The development side of IT seems just as broad, if not more so, than the
hardward side. I am simply not grasping how a sr. level could be as little
as 5 years am I missing something here or are my expectations completely out
of wack?
