The reason this list exists is because there are just a scattered few of us who are as passionate about Joni Mitchell's work as we are. All of us pretty much tell the same story; we joined this discussion list and finally, for many of us maybe the first time in our lives, connected with people who appreciate her music with the same fervor. Granted, there are not too many folks who *haven't* heard of her, or as Catherine said, know that she wrote BYT, or even bought one of her records at some point, but they have since forgotten her or merely written her off as another mere pop singer. That being the case, I describe my JMDL membership differently to different people, depending on how they would appreciate it. To some, I simply say it's a music discussion list. To others, I go full bore and say that we discuss the work of one of the most brillaint composers of the 20th century, Joni Mitchell. The guy who makes my video copies for me (well, for y'all actually) loves to see me come in his shop and hand over the videos. He says "There's my girl" or "Yay, I get to listen to Joni in the VCR all day today!". Like the list itself, this kind of response is very affirming. Now explaining an obsession with collecting Joni covers is even tougher still! :~) Bob NP: Bruce, "Badlands", Boston, MA 8/22/99
