Obviously, homophobia was worse before DADT.
Gays were more often bullied, beaten, tortured, and murdered, simply
for being who they are.
That still happens, but is gradually lessening as young people
gradually learn to be more tolerant and accepting of gays, and as the
older homophobes die off.

DADT has been repealed, and the law was signed by President Obama this
morning. Are you still arguing against repeal?
