>From the LiveDocs (http://livedocs.macromedia.com/coldfusion/7/htmldocs/0696.htm) Use this method for application initialization code; for example, use it to set Application scope variables, to determine whether a required data source or other resource is available, or to log the application start. You do not have to lock the Application scope if you set Application variables in this method, and you can reference Application scope variables as you normally do; for example, as Application.myVariable. Same goes for the session according to the docs. Application.cfc racing
I'm about to do some tests on application.cfc as it deals with the onApplicationStart and onSessionStart. The question is, if the application/session does not exist, does the method 'lock' and single thread the request to it or can multiple requests cause the start methods to run if they happen at the same time. In an application.cfm this is handled by doing a check to see if an application variable exists, if not lock the application and then check again. If no one has solid data on this then I'll be testing it out and posting the results here and on Blog of Fusion. Re: Verity issues with MX 7
The verity core is different in what was shipped in 7 from the version shipped in 6. Verity version in 6.1 was about 4 I tyhink, and in MX7 the verity version is also 7. This means any collections created by your mx6.1 box wont work on 7 and will need to be recreated in the new verity format. Hope that helps. That "Record is Deleted" message can be an indication that you have a corrupt database. ah sorry, my bad. i read your examples backwards. SQLSTATE HY109 refers to an invalid cursor. Verity issues with MX 7
My company recently upgraded a server from 6.1 to 7.0.1. After doing the upgrade we discovered that our verity functionality has broken. The indexing is taking roughly 50 times longer to complete, and once it does, it does not seem that the collections have been created (the search results return nothing). I know that due to all the new content in verity that the process of indexing takes longer which may be one possible cause. In addition, our system uses multiple collections and that could be another cause. You can see an example of no results here: http://www.fortworthcpa.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=contentSearch.veritySearch&nodeID=1 However, we have a client that uses our product on a third-party MX7 server, and they have never experienced this issue. You can seen the correct results here: http://www.ovariancancer.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=contentSearch.veritySearch&nodeID=1 So, we are not sure how to account for the situation that verity is working with our system in one MX 7 environment but not in another. Any thoughts? Also, as a temporary fix would it be possible to install the verity (version 2.6.1) from 6.1 to work in conjunction with 7.0.1? Re: Server Backup Solutions
At my last job, we started backing up to a rotating pair of USB 2.0 external HD's. It worked perfectly. We would switch them out on Monday AM, with last weeks going off-site and the other one coming in. The backups were done with Ghost and they were so handy! We'd have one new image for every day and you could use them as a whole image or get into them to pick and choose. We even had to use them once for a full restore and a couple of times for partials or for the odd file or folder restore and it was the coolest backup solution. Easy, reliable, fast... I really liked it. --Ferg > -Original Message- > From: Mike Klostermeyer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Monday, May 22, 2006 3:58 PM > To: CF-Talk > Subject: RE: Server Backup Solutions > > Thanks. Re: Server Backup Solutions
Rotation of backups can easily be done with Windows scripting or batch files. I do this with my personal computers at home, backing up to an NAS on my network. I use the Windows scheduler to run the backup batch file each night. The batch file fires NTBackup, setting a destination backup filename (incorporating the date). I do a weekly full backup, then incremental daily backups. - Original Message - From: "Mike Klostermeyer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "CF-Talk" Sent: Monday, May 22, 2006 1:58 PM Subject: RE: Server Backup Solutions > Thanks. Re: Server Backup Solutions
For years I have been backing up to hard drives on the data server (NT/SQLS7) and then distributing those files (.bak) to other servers using scheduled ftp or PCAnywhere sessions. I maintain a 4 day rotation in different directories. I am not as diligent with transaction files only maintaining 2 hour backups for a day on an independant hard drive. I roll off data onto DVD every 4 days. Multiple Instances and clustering. Like most things, when you reach a certain point, it's better to introduce more hardware than simply keep throwing memory(or cpus) at it. According to my tests, it's a 1.6GB max for a jvm process, but to answer your question, you would either need to move to Linux/Unix, or 64bit Windows. ~| Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:4:241161 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:4 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.4 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54

OT: Server Backup Solutions
Curious if anyone has some suggestions for server backup software. I need to backup (probably to a separate drive cage) web servers and database servers in a Microsoft environment, and looking for any input or experiences. I don't need much, but some requirements are to be able to put backup process on a scheduler, compression, and obviously, the cheaper the better. Thanks. I think I've discovered a bug in CFMX
Reading this I know it might sound like an Apache bug, but I only get the undesired behavior when I request certain types of CFM pages. Please read and help me!. SYMPTOM - Web browser seems to lose connection with the web server when making CFM requests that take a long time (over 10 seconds) to process. FIREFOX SIDE EFFECT When the apparent connection with the web server breaks, Firefox prompts me to download my "index.cfm" file. INTERNET EXPLORER SIDE EFFECT -- When the apparent connection with the web server breaks, Internet Explorer makes a second request passing all of the same data a second time. OTHER CLUES --- - This problem has surfaced in two unrelated parts (meaning there is no shared code) of one web application and in another web application as well. - This problem has occurred in a simple 3 page site that I wrote. - The problem seems to occur when CFMX is busy doing something like looping over a file write or trying to cache a large query object. - I could not reproduce this behavior when testing requests to a page that did a 45 second pause. - Although the web server seems to cut the connection with the browser, the CFML requests appear to finish because I'm usually able to verify that the thread finished what it was supposed to do on the server SERVER SOFTWARE --- Windows 2003 Server Apache 1.3.33 CFMX 7,0,1,116466 WHAT I'VE ALREADY TRIED --- - I check the Windows Event Log, Apache error and access log, and the ColdFusion logs, and the Jrun logs. I'm not able to find any information that seems to be related to this problem in any of these logs. - I have a copy of SeeFusion that I've recently installed (after the problem had started) and it's not able to reveal any clues - I did an HTTP trace with "HttpLook" and I'm able to verify IE is making a second POST at the server action page 15-20 seconds after I've pushed the submit button. I'm talking about forms that have no special javascript submit functionality. HELP! Yes, you need to create an outer join instead of an inner join: SELECT p.name, p.product_id, p.content_id, p.creationdate, h.hits AS hits, h.clickthroughs AS clicks, s.pagetitle, s.parent, c.pagetitle AS category FROMProducts p, INNER JOIN ContentPages s ON p.content_id = s.content_id INNER JOIN ContentPages c ON s.parent = c.content_id LEFT OUTER JOIN Product_Hits h ON p.product_id = h.product_id ORDER BY#sortorder# Of course, I wasn't able to test this query, but this should be in the ballpark. RE: cfqueryparam BIND list limit
I used to get around Oracle's 1000-item list limit by breaking up the list into an array of lists then looping over the array and putting OR between each iteration. I'm running CFMX7, and MSSQL2k. On this specific task, I'm using the IN or NOT IN clauses in sql to grab a set of records. The problem occurs when I attempt to use cfqueryparam to fetch a 2100+ item list of records. Query 1: SELECT id FROM tempTable WHERE id IN () And I receive the error: "The DBMS returned an unspecified error." However if I select the recordset using: Query 2: SELECT id FROM tempTable WHERE id IN (#list#) I receive no error. And receive the recordset. To add to the pie, if I run this query: Query 3: SELECT id, FROM tempTable WHERE id IN I still get the same error message: "The DBMS returned an unspecified error." Even though syntaxically the query is invalid. To further troubleshoot I installed the jTBS 1.2 drivers and I ran all 3 queries again. The result this time around was: Query 1: "Prepared or callable statement has more than 2000 parameter markers." Query 2: No errors. Query 3: "Prepared or callable statement has more than 2000 parameter markers." What I'm guessing is that there is some form up of upper limit on the number of BIND variables that each driver can handle. What leads me to this conclusion is a couple of things. 1. The query will crash before the DB "sees" it. 2. Non-BINDed variables execute fine. Also, if I use the default DataDirect SQL drivers I can increase the number of BIND variables to 2097, where if I run the jTDS drivers I'm limited to 2000. Now the question. Is there a way to get around this limit? And if so, should I try to? Any idea's? You're not looking for distinct records, you want one random record from within a set of records that otherwise match your search conditions. You can fix this within your SQL using "TOP 1" or whatever similar functionality your database provides to get the first matching record within a set, or you can fix this within your CFML by using the GROUP attribute of CFOUTPUT to just show the first row within the set. I tried that. That will give you records with com1 showing up more than once since the names ect are not distinct sql returns all the combinations. Re: Possible in SQL?
You could do it with a subquery select * from sometable a WHERE a.gender = 'M' AND lname = (SELECT max(lname) FROM foo WHERE com1=a.com1) (of course, this assumes that lname is unique within a com1, which may not be the case...you may need to add on a identity field to make sure you only get one value for each com1) -- Jim Wright Wright Business Solutions [EMAIL PROTECTED] 919-417-2257 ~| Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:4:241121 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:4 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.4 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54

Com1 genderfname lname 001 M Matt Smith 001 M Bill Wright 005 FKara Brown 005 M Mike White What I need to do is pull a record from each "com1" group that meets my where criteria. Say from above I want all the males. I would want the answer to be 001 M Matt Smith 005 M Mike White Or 001 M Bill Wright 005 M Mike White I don't care which record I just want ONE per com1 id meeting the criteria. I tried using distinct but that will not work as you have to list all the field names out and then group but the none distinct ones which gives me all the com1's meeting the where criteria. Any idea's? cfprocparam cfsqltype XML ?
I have a stored proc that is returning a sql 2005 xml datatype. The sql server docs say to use LONGVARCHAR as the data type but I am getting the same error whether I call the proc from a java class or a coldfusion page. Implicit conversion from data type xml to varchar is not allowed. Anyone else run into this yet? But not what it returns. The following in an SP will potentially return two or three result sets which means your proc result tags can be askew. thanks mike, i will look over these in am. Don't worry, it WONT be running on iis, you should know that by now!! haha ~Dave the disruptor~ From: "Mike Kear" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Monday, May 22, 2006 3:24 AM To: CF-Talk Subject: Re: model-glue on shared servers The docs for Model-Glue and for Reactor lag behind the product somewhat. It's a struggle to keep them in synch with the product because it's moving ahead so fast. I dont want to rehash the VERY LONG thread that went on the Reactor list a while back, but I'll give you a brief synopsis - For running Reactor on a shared server ... DO NOT make a mapping called "Reactor" despite what the docs say. - Put the Reactor core files in a folder of their own under the web root. DO NOT put them any lower than that (i.e. dont put them in a folder wwwroot/admin/reactor they MUST go in wwwroot/reactor. It is this folder that will contain reactorFactory.cfc) - Make a folder where you want Reactor to create it's application-specific auto-generated files. This folder can be anywhere within your site, e.g. wwwroot/cfcs/reactordata - Create a ColdFusion mapping (or ask your sysadmin to do it) pointing to this location. The docs suggest to call it "/myApplicationData" but you can call it whatever you like. If you are using Reactor in your WindowsXPPRo using IIS5.1, you can only have one site. You can still have reactor running, but there is quite a lot of complicatoin having several versions. So if you think you might have several versions of Reactor on your system (e.g. different development periods and therefore using a later rev of Reactor on one site) I strongly suggest not using IIS. I changed to Apache for this reason and it made a great many things easier. So .. supposing you decided to stick with WindowsXPPro and IIS5.1 ... ok here's what you have to do ... - You will no doubt have a folder c:\inetpub\wwwroot\MySIte1 which contains the files for your site called MySIte1. - DO NOT put your reactor files in the folder c:\inetpub\wwwroot\MySIte1\Reactor, which the Docs seem to say, but if you read carefully they dont. - Put your reactor files in the folder c:\inetpub\wwwroot\reactor\ i.e OUTSIDE the folders relating to your site MySite1. (this means you can only have one copy of Reactor running at a time on your WInXP machine - there are apparently ways to have different copies but I never figured that out) - Create the folder for the auto-generated application files INSIDE your site MySite1, and to take the example above your folder will be c:\inetpub\wwwroot\MySite1\cfcs\reatordata - Create a ColdFusion mapping pointing to this folder. The docs suggest to call it "/myApplicationData" but you can call it whatever you like. - When you upload your site to the shared server, you will need to upload BOTH the files in MySite1 AND those in the c:\inetpub\wwwroot\reactor tree. These will be INSIDE your site on the shared server. This has been written from memory, so I hope it's correct in every detail. But I can testify that it works on a shared server, but you have to make sure you dont have a coldfusion mapping called Reactor anywhere, or that's where the reactor will be run from, not from the files in your own site. Similar principle applies to ModelGlue. The key is NOT to have a mapping called "/Reactor" despite what the docs say. If the reactor folder is underneath the root of the site, it'll work, believe me. I had it pounded into me hard enough on the Reactor list, and I've verified it in my own experience. Hopefully the docs will be able to catch up soon. There's a new version 2 of Model-Glue coming out soon, and everyone (including me) would rather have the effort go into getting the new version going properly than have it delayed waiting for documentation for version 1.x updated. Re: model-glue on shared servers
The docs for Model-Glue and for Reactor lag behind the product somewhat.
