- Yes
- Yes but with minor issues
- No
- It does not work at all

 Success!

I still haven't managed to get past the 3716 error 'safety settings on
this computer prohibit accessing a data source on another domain' on my
office PC or my musicserver. I am able to access the database from the
office PC for tagging etc with no problem.

So as a last resort tried it on my laptop. I had an ODBC access
problem at first. Disabling Windows XP firewall on the server solved
this problem and I have produced my first reports! Needed a little
tidying of tags to get repots looking good.

 Brilliant application!

The only slightly odd looking thing I have left is where I have both a
track and album artist defined, each track is listed twice, once for
the track artist once for the album artist.
e.g. Loudmouth -Best of Bob Geldof the Boomtown Rats. Some tracks
are credited to Bob Geldof (TrackArtist) some to the Boomown Rats
(TrackArtist) but I have AlbumArtist=Bob Geldof the Boomtown Rats!

Is there a way of defeating this so that the track is only printed once
 for either AlbumArtist or TrackArtist?

Great to hear everything is working now. Was disabling/modifying the
firewall the solution to the problem (good to know)?

I believe that the problem you are facing with is due to the fact that
squeezecenter actually stores two references to the album in the
database.
The same thing occurs when you specify multiple artists by using the
';' as seperator char.

I'll see if I can create a fix for it. I need to build a query that
could combine the different artist results for a single album but must
admit my SQL knowledge is not quiet the level required here ;-) If
anyone is able to help me out by a really intelligent SQL query, I
would be most happy. Otherwise i have to create a workaround in the
code processing the current results which would not benefit the
performance I'm afraid. Anyway. Issues is on my to do list.

Re: [slim] mms stream: SB3 vs squeezeslave

2008-07-18 Thread bpa

Squeezeslave, Softsqueeze and SB1 have no native WMA and so WMA has to
be transcoded into Flac, WAV or MP3 by SC before being sent to
Squeezeslave.

Since Squeezeslave has no native capability - SC treats wma streams
(both http mms) for Squeezeslave as if native is disabled.

[slim] Battery not loading on Squeezebox Controller

2008-07-18 Thread Controllator

Hi there,

my new Duet was fine until the Battery went low.
So i put it into the loading cradle and the battery symbol on the
controller loops from left to right, saying to me i'm loading.

After loading about 16 hours i took it from the cradle, and got the old
message: battery low.

I took off the battery for several minutes and it was cold, so i think
there is no loading power.

I did several tries, but no success.
(Controller works fine in the cradle, and battery continues looping)

Is there any trick i can do ?

Firmware is 7.1 r2704 from yesterday's nigtly 7.2 version

btw
this is a RMA exchange from my first Duet, where the Receiver was
broken :(

[slim] Woke up at 3AM

Hi,

Last night i got woken up by my sqeezebox just after 3AM. This is the
second time its happened. I have an alarm set for 7AM so i just assumed
it was time to get up. I've checked the server log file but there is
nothing in there regarding it. Are there any other log files i can
check to see why this happened?

Could it be anything do do with my alarm? maybe the squeeze box's time
went temporarily 4 hours fast? How do alarms work... is it the server
that wakes the sqeeze box up at the right time or is the alarm stored
on the player?

Does this happen to anyone else? I've had a breif look arround.

Thanks, Andy

The best way, and I believe the most common way SC is used, is to have
SC and the music library on one machine. Dragging and dropping the
music files would be done in SC. Since SC has access to the music
library I don’t see any issues for implementing such a feature.

Myself I use iTunes to manage my library. I create and update playlists
inside iTunes. iTunes supports drag and drop feature so I don’t really
need it in SC. I consider SC as a server application that is running in
the background to server my SB3.

Re: [slim] Question about tagging

2008-07-18 Thread ewreck

I have a large collection of cd's ( 600 pieces ) wich are ripped to
mp3's. Now i am replacing them by Flac's.
I remove a mp3 album and replace it with a flac album. I do a scan for
new albums and tag-updates. But on the remote controller i have an
artist with two identical albums. One flac version and a mp3 version (
even though i removed the mp3 version, before scanning ) The mp3
version shows, on the remote controller, empty.
I have to do clear and new scan to get rid of the double versions.
The only disadvantage is that this version of scanning take aprox. 6
hours.

I found out that if a place the flac in the mp3 dir and it has the
exact the same tag, there is no problem at all.

MusipIP does support Playcount (see get Playcount in the link above),
and you can create a filter which limits (or recipe which nudges) your
created playlist either towards or away from often played tracks. This
may only be if you have the premium version (are Power Tools still only
in the premium version?). You will need something to keep track of
your played tracks though and import this back to MIP.

That said, I gave up trying to get MIP to keep up to date with my track
information (this was a few versions back, mind) because it kept double
counting plays of some but not all tracks.

Re: [slim] Please Help: Problems after downgrading to 7.0.1 (pause and music database)

Calodoucas;320873 Wrote:
 Hi,

I had exactly the same problems.

I downgraded to 7.0.1 and experienced the 'no artists' issue. I've
clean installed 7.0.2 - too early to say if all is OK, only
re-installed late last night. Will report further when I check my
 system tonight.

I'm interested to hear how this is working for you.

My status is as follows:
1) My Music is now displayed on the Controller
2) Artists are shown in the database
3) Database scan time has been halved
4) Pausing a track sadly still resets to the beginning within 60
seconds with the following message in the logs:

What I did:

3) Cleaned the registry
4) Reboot PC
5) Re-installed 7.0.1

[slim] minor bugs, anyone else seen these?

2008-07-18 Thread MrSinatra

(both refer to recent 7.1 SCs)

when i do a clear and rescan, it goes thru the steps, and i watch on
the status page, which is nice to have now btw.

however, when it gets to the final 'database optimize' step, it gets
about 7 seconds in, and just stops updating. i can wait many minutes,
and its stuck [displaying] at 7 seconds.

if i then refresh, and go back to the status page, it shows that it
completed the database optimize, and only took 30 seconds to do so.

is anyone else seeing this?

second minor bug?:

on the settings page, if i click the advanced tab, there is a drop down
type of box in the top left, and you can pick command line interface
thru software updates

however, when picking, i get scroll bars both vertically as well as
horizontally. this is the only drop down box in settings that happens,
(i know of).

i assume they aren't supposed to be there, right?

Re: [slim] Anyone who is a bit bored.

2008-07-18 Thread schiegl

Hi,

thanks! i tried this one (LameTag) too, unfortunately without success.

Those CBR-mp3's don't have lame-tags at all - i probably have encoded
them in the pre-lame-days with something like bladeenc.
The tool which finally was able to repair those tracks was 'MP3
repacker'
(http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=32379) and
it's GUI 'WinMP3Packer'
(http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=40780hl=). It
even preserved all ID3-Tags.

the steps i've done to get rid of these messages:

- disable mip for the time (to reduce the scanning time)
- set scan, scan.import scan.scanner to debug
- perform a full scan and identify those mp3 tracks
- use WinMP3Packer with default-options to re-package those tracks -
sometimes converts CBR to VBR (!!! this overwrites the source !!! make
a backup before and somehow save/note the timestamp if you'd later
  want to restore it)
- enable MIP disable debug log for scanner perform another
  full-scan
- no more warnings

kind regards,
Markus

[slim] Duet Remote - Bug In Menus

[slim] Losing my mind...

2008-07-18 Thread Ultraviolet

I've had the squeezebox duet for about 3 weeks now. I had been running
slimserver/sqeezecenter for quite a while for remote streaming, so
there was really little for me to do to set it up. It was fairly easy
and really worked flawlessly (including the MiP mixes) for a week.
I've had to exchange the remote because of a bad screen and nothing has
worked correctly since...

If I put the remote down and stop playing music for more than 20 min or
so, the remote loses connection to the server (red light on the wifi
strength indicator on the remote), but never my wireless. 50% of the
time I have to shut the remote off and turn it on to have it connect
(choosing player doesn't work). The other 50% of the time, I can
actually browse and play music even the icon is still red--this never
changes back to white either. Now I can't even reboot the remote--it
gets hung on the Goodbye screen and I have to pull out the battery.

Other problems: I can no longer use a password (it worked fine with my
first remote) on Squeezecenter. This is a problem because I use it for
remote streaming. It'll prompt me to enter username and password and
then just go in a loop where it keeps asking me over and over until it
hangs. Currently I'm not using a password at all. And finally, I'm
able to make a single MiP mix. Every single mix I try to create pulls
up and plays the first MiP mix I made--this occurs even if I clear the
first mix.

What's so frustrating is that this product really was working
flawlessly, with the exception of a bad screen on the remote and now
it's virtually unusable. I've also tried uninstalling both
squeezecenter and MiP and doing a full scan which didn't help either
(oh yeah, clear libary and rescan doesn't work either--I have to blow
away the database manually.)

Sqeezecenter Version 7.1-21511
Remote Version 7.1 r2704 (just downloaded this morning, but the
inability to shut down the remote remains)
This is running on XP SP3

Any help would be very appreciated.

That's probably the item where you get to choose which genres to include
in a random mix. You'd better include what version of SC you are
running, on what platform and the firmware version running on the
Controller.

I guess you've tried power cycling the whole kit and kaboodle?

Well that one's really odd. It's manifesting itself in the same way as
the Favorites menu issue that FredFredrickson saw (already fixed in

different way (straight Perl-JSON) than the Favorites menu (XML/OPML
based).

I'm running a 7.1 system locally here, and I can't reproduce what
you're seeing. 7.1 is on the near horizon, so if you're amenable can

[slim] Internet Radio cuts out after 30 minutes or so

2008-07-18 Thread CatBus

I'm looking for suggestions on how to troubleshoot this and/or work
around it. I'm trying to stream a radio station from the following
URLs:

128kbps (http://128.208.34.80:8002/listen.pls)
64kbps (http://128.208.34.80:8000/listen.pls)

I started out with the 128kbps stream, and it seemed to play fine--for
about 30 minutes or so, and then it just stops. If you push play
again, the stream will pick up again and play for another 30 minutes or
so. Sometimes it's less than 30 minutes, but I'm not sure it's ever
lasted longer.

Things I've tried:

- Multiple versions of SqueezeCenter. I've tried the 6.5x series, the
7.0 series, and I'm now on a 7.1 nightly. The 6.5 series stuttered
instead of stopping, but other than that, it was the same.

- Just stream it on the PC. Yep, on the PC it doesn't stop after 30
minutes, so I think that shows it's not a problem with my Internet
connection.

- Lower bitrate stream. I tried 64kbps, same results. My 1.5 Mbps DSL
connection may be pokey, but it should definitely handle that fine.

- Take wireless out of the picture. Same results wired.

- Proxied vs. native playback. Same results either way.

I could open a bug if I only knew more. I'm thinking that the stream
periodically refreshes or does some fancy redirection that my PC can
understand but the SB3 can't. Could I use Mplayer (I'm on Linux) to
read the stream and redirect it to SqueezeCenter, like the AlienBBC
plugin does? How would I do this? What do you think?

Re: [slim] Internet Radio cuts out after 30 minutes or so

2008-07-18 Thread andyg

Couple of things you can try.

In Settings - Player - Now Playing Information, choose Show Buffer
Fullness. You should get around 20 seconds of audio buffered for this
station (10 / 10). It should basically never drop lower than that
unless there are internet issues.

Enable the following logging options:
player.streaming.remote
player.streaming.direct
player.source

And check the server.log file after the stream fails to see what went
wrong.

[slim] Using Duet Player without the remote...

2008-07-18 Thread TravisKleckner

Is it possible to use the new Duet player without the remote?
Controlling it purely via the command line and Squeeze Center?

I've got whole home audio wiring that home runs a couple zones to amps
in the basement. There are keypads (Insteon) that control the music
via Winamp right now. I'd like a couple players but don't really have
any need for the remotes in each room.

Is it possible to setup and use the players without the whole remote
package?

Thanks in advance.

Hi all

Anyone tried http://www.stumbleaudio.com yet? There's a bunch of
really eclectic stuff on there and an interesting search that matches
albums up to more popular and well known artists (I guess a bit like

Might be a nice one for Slim Devices to get added to squeezenetwork.

[slim] Softsqueeze as application on iPhone

2008-07-18 Thread mortslim

How about Slim Devices making a version of Softsqueeze that runs native

Why?

As a promotional and marketing tool for the Squeezebox.

Say it is a pared down version of Softsqueeze that only streams
shoutcast stations. Then a little message saying if you want full
functionality, buy a Squeezebox.

What you have to do is actually start to stream something (play a
track) before the iTuner picks up the stream.

That said, the iTuner application gives a very bad oveall impression. I
get Out of Memory messages from time to time, it manages to hang while
entering a url (and doing nothing else in the meantime) and it even
comes with a type in the default http://; tag (http:/b/, I first
thought that is some kind of code but it's just an error).

So maybe that's the reason why it's no longer available on the store.

BTW: When I reduce the max bitrate in the settings (SC) it does not
prompt me to restart the stream or the server or something. Will the
bitrate change on the fly?

SC will stream silence when you connect a player, so it should handle it
fine (unless it's as buggy as you say...). I'm not sure if changing the

Not necessarily. I know iPhone does a lot of optimization to conserve
power, so maybe it somehow detects an empty stream and shuts it of...
The behavior is completely reproducible: When I pause the stream (on
SC) and then also pause it on the iTuner app, it loses the connection
(and indicates so). When I then try to restart (on iTuner) it says
cannot recognize stream format. But if I then re-start the stream on
SC it can connect again.

It also seams to buffer ahead quite a bit (30s for my 192 kbps mp3s and
more than 2min for 64kbps streams) so I can only imagine the distorted
playback has to do with decoding issues.

Lower bitrates make no difference, it seems to have more to do with the
track, some songs seem to be more sensitive than others (reproducible).

The strange thing is it seems to have no such issues with shoutcast
streams. Is there anything you do different?

[slim] Invaluable Windows gadget for audio libraries

2008-07-18 Thread JJZolx

dbpoweramp Windows Explorer Pop-up Information

I don't use dbpoweramp for either ripping or music transcoding, but I
have it installed nonetheless. The only reason is for the Windows
Explorer Pop-up Information. Just mouseover a file in Windows Explorer
to read all the tags, nicely laid out and formatted. I've been using it
for years and it keeps getting a little better with each release of
dbpoweramp. It's great for esily viewing your tags in audio files, and
a lot more convenient than having to load up the files in a tagging
program.

If you install it, see the dbpoweramp Configuration Music Converter
Enable Pop-up Information Tips Advanced page for customizing the
output. Make sure you install the appropriate codec package for each
of the music file formats whose tags you'd like to view in Windows
Explorer. It does mp3 by default, but there are codecs for Flac, Ogg,
Monkey's Audio, etc.

The only supported way to setup an SBR is with an SBC (although if you
have multiple players there's nothing stopping you using the same SBC
to set them all up). There is, however, a tool available (which simbo
linked to) which is designed to allow you to setup an SBR on it's own.
From what I hear it works fine, but it's not officially supported by
Logitech so it's up to you whether to risk it.

 Thanks in advance.

As others have pointed out, you need the remote to configure the player
for your wireless network.

Once past that you can use SC to control the player. I do that almost
exclusively. SC runs on our family room computer, adjacent to the
entertainment center, where the router and SBR are. The computer is
almost always already on, so I use it rather than wait for the
controller to power up. My kids like the web interface too.

Part of it will depend on your listening habits. Personally, I fire up
a Rhapsody station or a long playlist and just let it go. But if you
like to skip around a lot within your music library on the fly, the
remote would be much better. Otherwise you'd have to stay parked in
front of your computer.

2008-07-18 Thread pippin

andyg;321113 Wrote:

No. This is to be able to load media FILES (not streams) with iPhone.
So the links to the .mp3 files (for mp3 files) that are already in the
songinfo page could be used to play a file.
You can use that to construct a page with a playlist (including the
files) that iPhone would play. You cannot control it through SC
anymore, but you can browse the DB and play files.
I would say streaming Internet Radio to iPhone is less important since
every radio that is not deeply sleeping currently tries to get a
streaming app online for that so nothing SC needs to do.

Of course, a real App that uses the stream or even understands the
squeezebox protocol would be much better, but it's a start.

I don't know what's needed to fix this (technically speaking), but I
know that the server would have to support byte range access which
means the client can select which portion of a file it wants to
download at a given time.

If you don't have an iThingy to test you can use QuickTime, I think it
has the same limitation.

solution won't handle non-mp3/aac/alac files though, as there is no

I think iPhone ALWAYS requests only part of a file. May have something
to do with power saving. So it will not load it at all if the byte

I understand it will only work for file types QuickTime can play. As I

the ESET firewall software.

For reference, if anyone else encounters the problem, the following
will be seen in the firewall logs:

Reverse TCP Desynchronization attack

To resolve this just untick the Reverse TCP Desynchronization attack
option in the firewall settings (Personal Firewall IDS and advanced
options Intrusion detection).

Thanks to all who have helped!

Re: [slim] Softsqueeze as application on iPhone

2008-07-18 Thread andyg

Well I got it working. Looks like Mobile Safari tries lots of different
ranges to see what works best, maybe some sort of bandwidth detection.
On my wifi network it ends up doing a ton of requests for only 63 bytes
at a time. Quite inefficient and puts quite a load on the server but at
least it works.

Oops I think that was just a bug in the response header causing it to
send all those extra requests. It actually buffers the whole file very
fast. :)

Re: [slim] Mute button?

Yeah. I've run several searches on the entire Squeezecenter folder(s)
and there are no .map files there. I also do not have an IR folder in
either the Documents and Settings folder or any of the Squeezecenter
folders. The only place I found an IR folder or the .map file was in
the old (abandoned) Slimserver folder.

Bizarre. I just remembered I could look at my Windows partition without
rebooting -- my SC7 install has the map file at c:/Program
Files/SqueezeCenter/server/IR/Default.map

proposal, i.e. that it would be great to have scanning a specified
folder as an additional option to the other ones already available. A
scanning that retrieves tags, covers and MIP data ...
