Um... I don't really understand what you're talking about. Are you talking about Serrato, or what Google tells me is a South African PsyTrance label? Derek was playing records when I saw him in NYC, and he's played records every time he's played in Iowa City. Maybe Derek does Final Scratch sets sometimes, but it's not because he can't play records. Derek is one of the OG midwest DJs*, and it's always a good time when I've seen him. If you want to beef with someone about music, that's fine but I thought we already had the big fight over technology. Re: (313) records in the basement (was late again)
A dehumidifier would be a good place to start. Also - get your records up off the floor and preferably into wooden boxes. Getting the records further away from the cement basement floor will help avoid any moisture/dampness that the cement attracts. Boxes made of pinewood would be best as they are more porous than a hard wood like oak - the wood will absorb the moisture that might otherwise penetrate into the paper record sleeves. Cool spaces are fine - cool dry spaces are better. I can see the plastic milkcrates crates being useful in that the open spaces allow for air flow but it looks like your records are pretty well packed in them so that negates the benefit of the milkcrates. Plus, plastic will repel moisture. Which means that it will have nowhere else to go but into the paper sleeves of the records. Get wood! You could also add a small fan to keep airflow moving. Vornado makes an excellent small fan that really moves air eventhough it doesn't oscillate. They are a bit pricey as fans go but when the days get hot humid you'll be glad you spend the extra cash. I bought them as a set which weren't cheap at £15, guess they'd have fitted on a 12 EP which would have been cheaper, better for playing out and at home I'd not have had to get off the sofa every 4 mins to change the record! what i've picked up recently: Matzo Pauli EP on Viewlexx -- special order; i had been looking for this for months. This must be a repress as my copy is on plain ol' black vinyl instead of the translucent red from the first run. :( it's still a great record -- i love the slower, melancholy disco A-side. Rhythim is Rhythim Beyond the Dance reissue A Certain Ratio - The Graveyard and The Ballroom CD reissue. I can't believe I've never delved into their backcatalog earlier. Great combination of albums to put on one disc, as you get the archetypal Martin Hammett production on the first half and a really good live performance on the second. Syncom Data Solid Industries on Bunker -- solid indeed, very dark and sparse and slamming. bet those responsible have been listening to a lot of Rob Hood records lately... UR Windchime -- two sides of greatness. gorgeous Strings/Jaguar-esque A side, dark fast electro on the flip. both sides scream Detroit louder than a photo of Hart Plaza. - jobot - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Thursday, July 22, 2004 7:42 am Subject: (313) records Well folks, I'm losing the will to live here. Well, not new by any means but the B.E.F. (British Electric Foundation) record I found, Music for Listening To, is pretty damn cool - Martyn Ware and Ian Marsh doing the Sheffield sound proud also found Heaven 17 Penthouse and Pavement and another B.E.F. record Music of Quality Distinction pt1 which has to be one of the stranger records to feature guest singers (Tina Turner and Gary Glitter?) Dajae's Higher Power LP and Fakes Phonies EP with remix duties by Gemini, Paul Johnson, Glenn Underground and Johnny Fiasco - all on Cajual. during that same hunt I found New York by the Micro Chip League - a late 80s electro synth-pop thing with quasi-industrial style lyric delivery talking about NYC obviously MEK [EMAIL PROTECTED] com To: 313@hyperreal.org cc: 04/29/04 09:22 AMSubject: (313) records so then, records. anyone got any good ones? Other than the new Submerge releases, the following are doing it for me: K-Led Tomorrow In The Morning 2x12 (Force Inc. Germany) -- pure sweet Detroit techno! Arne Weinberg Cupola EP (Keynote/ Groundzero Netherlands) -- pumpin' melodic Detroit techno! Scape One The Future ... It Will Never Be The Same (Kone Switzerland) -- dark moody electro. Jacek Sienkiewicz The Evidence (Recognition Poland) -- pumpin' minimal techno house. Bangkok Impact Featuring Kassen Colour Over Taste (Vynalogica Netherlands) -- italo disco with a twist. Decal Brightest Star 2x12 (Rotters Golf Club UK) -- pumpin' dark to melodic electro.
