Guys y there is no official news on vtv,i thnk it may not be releasing on this 
23rd.if it was 23rd then it is time to release the orginal track list in 
official site.guys pls respond to this if any body have any news.

What is the point in mispronouncing it? May be he is just sheltering the 
singers who did that.

I don't think so. Jai Ho was original thought for Yuvvraj and it was Subhash 
Ghai who had suggested the Jai Ho refrain.

What is the source of your saying the above?

 ja �etc etc ) would love to know them .�

I agree with all of u guys. Fiqrana video is just a mess notthing else. Blue 
theme video is also picturised very badly. Yeah A.R.Rajib I though like that 
too that the Fiqrana n blue theme should have picturised out side on the roads 
like Girlfriend song from Boys n Urvashi Urvashi.

The biggest mistake, foolishness or whatever u wanna say by the choreographer n 
the director is that the new blue theme video doesn't have its best part where 
the mindblowing twist comes in the theme at 2:04 n 2:05.

I believe Ismail Durbar is a talented musician, but because of his bad temper 
and general hot headedness, he has not since matched the kind of success seen 
in HDCCS and Devdas.  In fact, for both scores, I give equal credit to Sanjay 
Leela Bhansali's musical knowledge and sensibilities for these fantastic songs. 
 Yeah, he probably has a right to be upset if that story is true, but again, I 
think his arrogance overall does him in.  ARR, despite being so immensely 
successful, doesn't show one shred of arrogance to anyone, anywhere, 
anytime.which makes him truly legendary.

 I spoke to Rahman about the lyric writer and told him that his first song 
 didn't work but I do believe that he is very good. Rahman said, If he is 
 good enough for you he is good enough for me.
 
 Thus that lyric writer named Mehboob came into Rangeela minus the violin 
 player and the first song he wrote was Tanha Tanha. I played that song to 
 Maniratnam and he was mighty impressed with the fact that he hasn't heard a 
 song since a long time which didn't have the words dil, deewana and sanam and 
 signed on Mehboob for Bombay.
 
 With the super success of both Bombay and Rangeela Mehboob got a very big 
 name and credibility and using that he recommended his closest friend the 
 violin player to Sanjay Leela Bhansali who was looking for a new music 
 director for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and thus was born Ismail Darbar.
 
 After the tremendous musical success of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam which also 
 timed with a couple of Rahman albums not doing well including my own Daud 
 Ismail Darbar was the new musical genius on the block. I called Ismail Darbar 
 up to congratulate him and he didn't pick up my calls.
 
 Later on Ismail gave an interview where he said that now that he is a 
 success, everybody is calling him including Ramgopal Varma. That was 
 obviously his revenge on the heartache I gave him by dumping him from 
 Rangeela.

Hi friends,

Did you guys notice that A.R.R Sir has written many songs (Nana, Sajna) for 
CR along with Blaaze ??? I enjoyed both of them. Nana was especially stunning.

I wonder who was the lyricist for the Kuru Kuru Song in CR. The Album credit at 
arrahman.com does not show who wrote Kuru Kuru song. :(

You are correct. You are entitled to your opinions.  But, others are entitled 
to theirs too and to disagree with you.  Disagreement does not necessarily need 
to yield constructive thoughts.  You thought Blue lacked soul, others didn't 
agree.  Simple.  Nothing personal against you.  I'm all for criticism, healthy 
and constructive, but over time, I've also begun to respect disagreement too 
and the old adage, agree to disagree.  

You came out with only one line. Maybe that put people off because you didn't 
elaborate, and you just didn't restrict it to Blue, you said, recent albums  
People asked you, Which recent albums?  You didn't reply, and thought you 
just disappeared. Healthy discussion is always good and your opinions should be 
respected, but I think the way you expressed it turned people off. What does 
lack of soul mean to you?

So, if you think Blue and other recent ARR's works lacks soul, sorry to hear 
that.  But, there are lots of other ARR albums from the past perhaps that you 
could enjoy and you will hopefully like upcoming albums too and think they have 
soul.

Read an post from Orkut and thought of posting it here..Here is the post

“Chinna Chinna Aasai” song from the movie “Roja” is one of my all time 
favorites.Its a very melodious number in reggae style.

An amazing composition by our master A.R.Rahman(the very 1st film song composed 
by him.Its a mind blowing number)…

Especially i love the prelude to the song. It adds a beautiful feel to the 
whole song.

I happened to watch the movie “Highlander” this morning.The orchestral score 
done by Michael Kamen is simply Amazing.

The opening section of a soundtrack in Highlander is very similar to the best 
part of the prelude in “Chinna Chinna Aasai”.

Hey All,

Just saw ARR in pure divine form singing Vellai Pookal. Hope some of you were 
able to catch it. 
This special show, getting the whole world together for water started at 8:00 
PM- 10:00 PM (EST) on Friday. Its a 2 hr show. I missed it the first time, but 
they repeated it the second time again from 10PM (EST).  

ARR comes about 1 hr 23 mins into the show, right after the Arabic singers i 
think from Morroco. If people missed it, they can catch it again when they 
repeat the entire program every 2 hrs. Hope someone is able to record the 
segment!!

Just see the thread 'Listen to Raavan's song by Aishwarya Rai'
somebody tagged  a song as 'AR's'. Some of the guys started review it ,they 
liked it..comments says nice and simple work from ARR.

Just tag anything 'ARR', sell it here..

a discussion.

Personally what i felt is nowadays ARR's song became too predictable hence 
feels repetitive.Personally i found the 'Sajana' song from CR in most of the 
parts sounds cliche.

Missing the haunting interludes, more hip hop styled ,no orchestration at all, 
easy to sing(may be no use of ragas or simple use of ragas).
But all the songs are listenable but not having that much life.

Let us have an healthy discussion.

 It’s what you might call a quintessential Chennai music success story — boy

 Balamuralikrishna; does jingles with his childhood friend (music director
 G.V. Prakash) when he is just out of school ; is ‘discovered’ by the movie
 industry at Saarang, where he does a hat-trick as best instrumentalist three
 years running while studying engineering; and turns down a job with Infosys
 to end up working with none other than A.R. Rahman.

 Meet Navin Iyer, who at 24 is one of the most in-demand flautists in the
 film music industry, having recorded for over 500 movies in Tamil, Telugu,
 Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.

 “I think I’m the youngest musician in the cine industry — not counting
 singers,” says the young flautist (and self-taught saxophonist) as we meet
 at his brand new personal studio in the heart of Mylapore.

 Life is hectic since, as he explains, he’s one of a handful of flute
 ‘session artistes’ in the country. “Being a session artiste is another skill
 altogether,” he says, lounging behind the studio computer in an old pair of
 jeans and faded T-shirt. “The music director will demand a particular feel
 for a song, which you have to deliver; at the same time, you have to be able
 to add your own creativity and compose on the spot. You should be able to
 change gears between the two immediately.”

 Recordings may last just a few minutes — his flute piece for ‘Akkam Pakkam’
 from Kireedam took just four (“sometimes things just fall into place”) — or
 up to two hours for background scores, which generally take longer. “You
 need to watch the movie scene to get in sync with it,” he says, comparing
 the process to being ‘in a relationship’. “Unless you spend time with it,
 talk to it, you won’t get the exact feel.”

 One movie scene is etched in his memory for good — the one in Rang De
 Basanti, his first recording for Rahman. “He just called me and said ‘can
 you come?’” he recalls, still sounding awed. “My flute comes in the
 background score of the scene after Madhavan’s character dies… it was a very
 emotional scene, very emotional for me too!”

 Since then, he’s played for a number of Rahman’s projects, including the
 big one, Slumdog Millionaire. “The morning of the recording for Slumdog…I’d
 actually overslept, but luckily made it in time,” he says, adding with a
 laugh, “And then, my God, the Oscar!”

 He travels quite a bit for recordings, and sometimes, music directors
 travel to him, such as Vishal of Vishal-Shekhar who came down to Chennai
 just to record the flute track for Aakhon mein teri from Om Shanti Om,
 because he liked Navin’s ‘ideas and style’ .

 “Earlier, music directors would have the entire score written and cine
 musicians played according to that,” comments Navin. “Now music directors
 are more open; they enjoy it when we give our inputs. It adds a new
 dimension to a song.”

 Gone also are the days when session artistes had to come together at one
 time to record a song; today, with the magic of track technology, individual
 artistes can play their parts when they have time and “ping pong on to the
 next recording,” he says. “Right now, for example, I’m practising during the
 day for my concert tour with Earthsync, so I’m often recording through the
 night.”

 The day we meet, he’d been at Malayalam music director Ouseppachan’s studio
 at T. Nagar recording till 4 a.m., had gotten a couple of hours of sleep,
 hit the gym (“it keeps you kicking”), and fit in our interview before a
 practice session at 10 a.m. That’s the way he likes it — busy, with plenty
 of variety. At his studio is a specially-made glass flute which he’s been
 experimenting with. Next up is one made of clay, another of marble and a
 saxophone of bamboo.

 Ready to roll out is a collaborative album, ‘Three 4 the Music’, with
 mridangist D.A. Srinivas and violinist Raghavendra Rao that connects
 Carnatic music with everything from blues and jazz to Irish folk music
 (which translates as karaharapriyaragam, he tells me). And for the future,
 he wants to compose his own music.

Well, it is a chick-flick. most of the romantic comedies don't get great
reviews but it still does good business in the box office because as much as
the guys hate chick-flicks, girls love them.

the bad review for the music is generally because of the movie itself. if
the entire movie doesn't work for a critic, the score, however good it is
will not be noticed at all.

Just saw ARR in pure divine form singing Vellai Pookal. Hope some of you were 
able to catch it. 
This special show, getting the whole world together for water started at 8:00 
PM- 10:00 PM (EST) on Friday. Its a 2 hr show. I missed it the first time, but 
they repeated it the second time again from 10PM (EST).  

ARR comes about 1 hr 23 mins into the show, right after the Arabic singers i 
think from Morroco. If people missed it, they can catch it again when they 
repeat the entire program every 2 hrs. Hope someone is able to record the 
segment!!

Greetings sriram, ur post is absolutely true. I have been a member of this 
group ever since 2001 , and back in those days, members who are active were 
never harsh and rude towards the members as like nowadays. Not willing to 
mention the names here. I have expressed about this here few months back. 
Nowadays members can post without thinking whether is it rude or not. They just 
easily call people names and throw rough words on their own fellow brothers. 
Sarcasm is the popular attitude among the members here nowadays. Shame on them!

About the criticism, yes, members nowdays r afraid to face any negatives review 
towards ARR songs nowadays. If u say 1 negative word about the songs, u will 
have to prepare to face all kinda 'colorful' criticism from the people here. 
This behavior truly irks me.

And i too truly believe the lack usage of carnatic raagam is the sole fact of 
his lack of soulfulness albums nowadays. I do hope this will reach A.R.Rahman. 
Unless A.R.Rahman is happy on how the way it is nowdays, that he is getting the 
recognition with the current pattern he is using, then we can just drop this 
matter.

 the two don't quite reclaim that territory in Retreat, which could very
 well be a follow-up to that tale of randy twentysomething males about town,
 now married and experiencing varying degrees of marital stress.

 Boxoffice potential is difficult to judge. Normally, a film involving
 either or both actors-writers-producers and (in Favreau's case) a director
 has strong commercial appeal. But the marital issues raised might puzzle or
 distract younger fans expecting sexual tease and potty humor.

 In fact, Favreau and Vaughn suffer from the same distraction. There is
 sexual tease and potty humor here, the latter involving Vaughn's young son,
 and it's very funny. The sex stuff works less well and feels out of place
 among married people trying to work through legitimate issues couples face
 in real life. So the script the two wrote with fellow comedy writer Dana Fox
 gets pulled in opposite directions.

 The idea is to send four couples off to an island paradise that serves as a
 retreat for couples experiencing relationship woes. One couple (Jason
 Bateman and Kristen Bell) is contemplating divorce.

 The anchor couple, Vaughn and Malin Akerman, is a well-adjusted pair with
 kids, friends and busy lives. Another couple, Favreau and Kristin Davis, are
 more dysfunctional than they might realize, and the fourth couple barely
 qualifies as such. Faizon Love is newly divorced and has agreed to go along
 with his 20-year-old girlfriend, Kali Hawk, whom he has just met.

 The other three couples have come along as a favor to Bateman and Bell
 because this gives them a cut-rate deal at the island resort (shot in French
 Polynesia). But the imperious couples guru (Jean Reno) insists that everyone
 must participate or they can all leave with refunds. Predictably, once the
 shrinks and relationship experts go to work, no one's marriage is safe.

 The best sections of the film deal with Vaughn and Akerman since it
 represents a critique of the relationship industry that is determined to
 justify its existence in finding problems even if none exists. The most
 problematic in comedic terms involves Favreau and Davis. No week at a
 couples retreat is going to solve their myriad problems.

 Because the movie can't get stalled in therapy sessions, it does venture
 into the island for forced situation comedy involving a shark attack, an
 unlikely yoga session and a body massage where mixed signals result in an
 embarrassing male arousal. The real problem, though, is that the movie can't
 decide how seriously it wants to take its characters and their conflicts.

 Producer-turned-director Peter Billingsley wisely turns the movie over to
 his talented cast. He and the writers can be faulted, however, for
 emphasizing the male characters over the women even if the title alone would
 seem to dictate more even-handed portrayals.

 Tech credits are solid, with the film repping the American debut of Indian
 superstar film composer A. R. Rahman. His is an efficient though relatively
 unmemorable job, the only hint of his Indian roots coming in the almost
 superfluous sequences involving Reno's couples whisperer.

The SONG is FULLY in UNPREDICTABLE format.. Amazing Chords  The Synth
Pads are superb The pad sounds and their FLOW is honestly what we must
ADMIT, that was lacking in recent songs of BOSS...Even Delhi 6.


REHNUMA is a number in a genre  which I had been craving from BOSS since
many years... Innovatively(NOT GENRE-wise...), the number is equivalent to a
Thiruda Thiruda or Rangeela song. Now Iam waiting to hear a Grunge, or
Alternate Metal song from BOSS (Eg: Evanescense style)

else to use instruments.this is from oru dheivam thantha poove from kannathil 
muthamiital sung by chinmayi(not the male version).if u carefully notice u will 
be able to hear the sound of the bass guitar fron 5.10-5.17.That's simply 
awesome.

closely.

Aye Bachu - 00:12 - 00:35 - the metal guitar has some reverb added - very 
feeble reverb. 
And.. when the singer starts singing , pay close attention to the lines Aye 
Bachu, Tu Sun le... (Left Ear), the main lead guitar plays for those 2

No offence to IR, but I'm hoping this news is false and hoping this is a 
goof-up by Dinakaran. I would rather attend any other concert if i want to

of our Boss... Those 3 hours are always MAGICAL, and each minute is PRECIOUS 
for me. I would want it to be filled only with ARR and only ARR!

Well the last few lines are a shocker! At the time of HDDCS, it was taal, pukar 
etc by Rahmanjii! And who could say that taal didnt do well.. hehe!! 

 

Well taal in terms of musical volumes was a much greater success than HDDCS. 
Just pipped at the National Awards, Taal garnered every popular award that year 
for its music.

 

And well Ismail Darbar had to wait till Devdas to churn out some good tunes 
after HDDCS! His Tera Jadooo Chal Gaya etc tanked.

 

Lets talk about KISNA.. Kisna has definitely got some nice tracks by Ismail 
Darbar. But I'l vouch for this! The best track of the album is Hum Hein iss Pal 
Yahaan; hands down!!

Both Drohi and the song bombed but because of that association my 
relationship with that lyric writer continued and whenever I was in Mumbai, me, 
the violin player and the lyric writer used to meet up once in a while and at 
that time I was just beginning to work on the idea of Rangeela. When I 
mentioned the story to both of them, they got very excited and the violin 
player composed a tune for which the lyric writer wrote a song. I was very 
impressed with both and committed to both of them that they will be doing the 
music for Rangeela. They were thrilled to bits.

A few days later Maniratnam made me hear the songs of Roja at his home on 
Chennai and I was simply blown away with the orchestral brilliance of 
A.R.Rahman. I got too greedy and at any cost wanted to get that sound in my 
film and went back on my commitment to the violin player and signed Rahman 
instead, which understandingly left the violin player in a very angry and a 
heartbroken state. The lyric writer pleaded with me not to do that to his 
friend and I said it is just a professional decision in the best interest of 
the film.

I spoke to Rahman about the lyric writer and told him that his first song 
didn't work but I do believe that he is very good. Rahman said, If he is good 
enough for you he is good enough for me.

Thus that lyric writer named Mehboob came into Rangeela minus the violin 
player and the first song he wrote was Tanha Tanha. I played that song to 
Maniratnam and he was mighty impressed with the fact that he hasn't heard a 
song since a long time which didn't have the words dil, deewana and sanam and 
signed on Mehboob for Bombay.

With the super success of both Bombay and Rangeela Mehboob got a very big 
name and credibility and using that he recommended his closest friend the 
violin player to Sanjay Leela Bhansali who was looking for a new music director 
for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and thus was born Ismail Darbar.

After the tremendous musical success of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam which also 
timed with a couple of Rahman albums not doing well including my own Daud 
Ismail Darbar was the new musical genius on the block. I called Ismail Darbar 
up to congratulate him and he didn't pick up my calls.

Later on Ismail gave an interview where he said that now that he is a success, 
everybody is calling him including Ramgopal Varma. That was obviously his 
revenge on the heartache I gave him by dumping him from Rangeela.

popularity of that song is unparalled. its not even famous in INDIA but world 
over.THE SONG HAD THE UNIVERSAL APPEAL and the most bombastic song till date . 
it could not be A R RHMANS greatest composition bt as far as music arrangement 
and overall appeal of the song it is still matchless. the music is my goodness 
, A R RAHMAN seem to have full of ideas and MANI RATNAM gave him all the 
liberty to deliver it . its once in a lifetime song.here in PAKISTAN i can 
surely say A R RAHMAN became really famous through this very song .

Did you guys notice that A.R.R Sir has written many songs (Nana, Sajna) for 
CR along with Blaaze ??? I enjoyed both of them. Nana was especially stunning.

What to say? Even after several years this album will be on top in
terms of trendy, youthful, motivating songs, exceptional sound
quality, and crystal clear lyrics that has a high poetic value. The
way in which Shahin Badar's vocals were processed in Dol Dol song just
shows the brilliance of AR that will be instantly appreciated even by
a first time listener. Whenever I listen to Jana Gana Mana, I feel how
badly we miss the Genious Sridhar. Together, Sridhar and AR did some
innovative soundscaping for several years of which this album is top
notch. AR's music speaks out better in movies that talk about social
issues rather regular entertainment flicks. He straightaway reaches to

While I agree that other players like Creative, iRiver, Cowon are
(possibly) better sounding, its difficult to counter the vast ecosystem
that apple has built around the ipod -- lo-tech or hi-end accessories
available for it's players is enormous. even the 2nd most popular player
(Creative Zen I'm guessing) doesn't have a tenth of accessories (incl.
hi-end docks, cables, etc) as the ipod.
as for the players a quick check showed they support these lossless
formats:
creative -- AAC only -- i'm guessing the lossless version alsoipod --
apple losslessiriver -- FLAC cowon -- FLAC, APE
cowon offers the best range of formats (lossless and otherwise),
followed very closely by iriver. at number three is creative and finally
the fourth place in the formats race goes to the industry leading ipod!

Your intentions may have been good. but I wouldn't classify saying recent
albums of AR Rahman lacking soul as a constructive criticism.  it merely
says that you didn't like the recent albums while the entire nation has been
loving these soul-less songs.

Criticism is welcomed by everyone. but you have to choose words carefully
when doing that. these albums you said are lacking soul, happened to have
some of the greatest songs. how can you say that Masakali, Dil Gira Daftan,
Ishq Ada Hai, Meharbaan, Hawa Sun Hawa, songs of Jodha Akhabr and many, many
more gems like these are soul-less ?

you can say that you didn't like them, but then again, if you didn't like
them, just simply skip it.  You don't have to force yourself to listen to
something and then complain about it.

Here is a sample of constructive criticism if you would like

I didn't like Ae Bachoo from Gajini, because I thought the song was trying
hard to be a hard-rock kind of song but the tune didn't fit quiet well for
that format.  I also think that the guitar solo could have been a bit more
long and melodious.

But, I do love Behka. the tune was simple, even I could sing along with it..
and when the Saxophone kicked in, I was like.. WOW


But imagine what would happen is I said Ghajini album is soul-less. I cannot
do that. Because there is one gem of a song in it. I skip songs I didn't
like, i listen to the song I love.

Here again, don't classify people as old members and new members. it implies
that the group used to be great once but the new members ruined it.

Just saw ARR in pure divine form singing Vellai Pookal. Hope some of you were 
able to catch it. 
This special show, getting the whole world together for water started at 8:00 
PM- 10:00 PM (EST) on Friday. Its a 2 hr show. I missed it the first time, but 
they repeated it the second time again from 10PM (EST).  

ARR comes about 1 hr 23 mins into the show, right after the Arabic singers i 
think from Morroco. If people missed it, they can catch it again when they 
repeat the entire program every 2 hrs. Hope someone is able to record the 
segment!!

along with Indian environmentalist Vandana Shiva, with other performers from

Guy Laliberte, the circus entrepreneur, will be the host of the two-hour show,

The ‘Poetic Social Mission’ will have a poet reading out a part of a poem

Agreed with you Jemsheed. I still remember those old days when people never
used to attempt ARR songs in stage shows as they know that it would be a
complete mess and its not that easy to sing. But nowadays some songs can be
easily hummed by anyone. But it doesn't mean that ARR has ran out of his
standards.

I strongly feel that earlier we had less means to hear music. A song can be
heard only once from home a day. Because we will be busy with our works and
we cannot carry our tape recorder everywhere. So it gained soul and lasted
long.

But when Ipods. Mobiles, Car stereos and various other means came in, we are
listening ARR songs everywhere. When we travel in Cars, songs are played in
car stereos, when we work Ipods are beside. So definitely when we are
repetitively playing some songs in loop. It sounds repetitive and we will
definitely skip the albums so fast, and wait for the next one to release. We
cannot complain us or ARR regarding this matter. Because as a human being
like us, he doesn't know how to satisfy different music listeners of
different taste.

Fantastic looks. RAHMAN SOUNDS DIVINE ON IT.Just take care that u use 
different set of headphones than the ones provided and use absolutely minimal 
settings change

Those who have heard the brand have been mesmerised with its quality. Mumbai 
guys can get it from factory outlet in gorregaon.

While I agree that other players like Creative, iRiver, Cowon are (possibly) 
better sounding, its difficult to counter the vast ecosystem that apple has 
built around the ipod -- lo-tech or hi-end accessories available for it's 
players is enormous. even the 2nd most popular player (Creative Zen I'm 
guessing) doesn't have a tenth of accessories (incl. hi-end docks, cables, etc) 
as the ipod. 

as for the players a quick check showed they support these lossless formats: 

creative -- AAC only -- i'm guessing the lossless version also
ipod -- apple lossless
iriver -- FLAC 
cowon -- FLAC, APE

cowon offers the best range of formats (lossless and otherwise), followed very 
closely by iriver. at number three is creative and finally the fourth place in 
the formats race goes to the industry leading ipod!

 Thus that lyric writer named Mehboob came into Rangeela minus the violin 
 player and the first song he wrote was Tanha Tanha. I played that song to 
 Maniratnam and he was mighty impressed with the fact that he hasn't heard a 
 song since a long time which didn't have the words dil, deewana and sanam and 
 signed on Mehboob for Bombay.
 
 With the super success of both Bombay and Rangeela Mehboob got a very big 
 name and credibility and using that he recommended his closest friend the 
 violin player to Sanjay Leela Bhansali who was looking for a new music 
 director for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and thus was born Ismail Darbar.
 
 After the tremendous musical success of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam which also 
 timed with a couple of Rahman albums not doing well including my own Daud 
 Ismail Darbar was the new musical genius on the block. I called Ismail Darbar 
 up to congratulate him and he didn't pick up my calls.
 
 Later on Ismail gave an interview where he said that now that he is a 
 success, everybody is calling him including Ramgopal Varma. That was 
 obviously his revenge on the heartache I gave him by dumping him from 
 Rangeela.

Got to listen to the Tamil version of Taal and I am bowled over once again.  In 
fact, I think I like the voice and singing better in the Tamil version of Ishq 
Bina (Kadhal Illamalae)has more passion with better voice modulations and 
intonations.  Simply amazing how we can enjoy a soundtrack in a different 
language without even understanding the language.  That's ARR for 
youmagic!!!

i think it faces strong competition from Muqabla. i don't know about India but 
in Pakistan it was an equivalent hit if not bigger. i suppose it should beat 
Chaiya in India since it was originally in Tamil and then dubbed in Hindi hence 
same level of hit in north and south. though I am not sure how Tamil version of 
Chaiya was received.

I have watched this movie about 3 times, including in big IMAX screen ( i know 
its not an IMAX film, still here the theatre guys show an zoomed in version in 
the IMAX screen)
After a long time this movie Jodha Akbar grows on you. I have been watching the 
movie almost everyweek when it comes on TV and it seems perfect in all ways 
except aishwarya's acting. The music, Lyrics and BGMs are top quality. I think 
its one of the very rare films which is has very rich lyrics supported by 
equally brilliant compositions.
And there are so many saperate pieces composed in BGMs unlike rehashes of tunes 
from the soundtrack which rahman does quite often.
I think overall its a classic.

Hi Everyone,

I I have just come back from Sonu Nigam's live concert which was held in Delhi. 
Through out the event Sonu performed numerous songs, from whihc one was Chiggy 
Wiggy from Blue. Kylie's part was sung by some female vocalist who was giving 
backing vocals in few of the songs. The funny thing that happened in between 
this track was that, while Sonu was singing his part of the song, one guy fromn 
the V.V.I.P. section sitting besides me stood up and started dancing like as if 
he was drunk or something! People dancing while such concerts is fine but a guy 
from the V.V.I.P. section that to at the most front row dancing in a mad like 
manner was something new I saw!

 longer. “You need to watch the movie scene to get in sync with it,” he says,
 comparing the process to being ‘in a relationship’. “Unless you spend time
 with it, talk to it, you won’t get the exact feel.”

 One movie scene is etched in his memory for good — the one in Rang De
 Basanti, his first recording for Rahman. “He just called me and said ‘can
 you come?’” he recalls, still sounding awed. “My flute comes in the
 background score of the scene after Madhavan’s character dies… it was a very
 emotional scene, very emotional for me too!”

 Since then, he’s played for a number of Rahman’s projects, including the
 big one, Slumdog Millionaire. “The morning of the recording for Slumdog…I’d
 actually overslept, but luckily made it in time,” he says, adding with a
 laugh, “And then, my God, the Oscar!”

 He travels quite a bit for recordings, and sometimes, music directors
 travel to him, such as Vishal of Vishal-Shekhar who came down to Chennai
 just to record the flute track for Aakhon mein teri from Om Shanti Om,
 because he liked Navin’s ‘ideas and style’ .

 “Earlier, music directors would have the entire score written and cine
 musicians played according to that,” comments Navin. “Now music directors
 are more open; they enjoy it when we give our inputs. It adds a new
 dimension to a song.”

 Gone also are the days when session artistes had to come together at one
 time to record a song; today, with the magic of track technology, individual
 artistes can play their parts when they have time and “ping pong on to the
 next recording,” he says. “Right now, for example, I’m practising during the
 day for my concert tour with Earthsync, so I’m often recording through the
 night.”

 The day we meet, he’d been at Malayalam music director Ouseppachan’s
 studio at T. Nagar recording till 4 a.m., had gotten a couple of hours of
 sleep, hit the gym (“it keeps you kicking”), and fit in our interview before
 a practice session at 10 a.m. That’s the way he likes it — busy, with plenty
 of variety. At his studio is a specially-made glass flute which he’s been
 experimenting with. Next up is one made of clay, another of marble and a
 saxophone of bamboo.

 Ready to roll out is a collaborative album, ‘Three 4 the Music’, with
 mridangist D.A. Srinivas and violinist Raghavendra Rao that connects
 Carnatic music with everything from blues and jazz to Irish folk music
 (which translates as karaharapriyaragam, he tells me). And for the future,
 he wants to compose his own music.

 “I want to explore, expand my horizons and focus on my versatility,” he
 says. “I don’t want to get stuck in a small circle of experience.”

I completely agree with you. I have watched the movie twice, and I also feel
that its a fine film indeed. In fact, I would go one step further and say
that even Aishwarya's acting was top notch. She was characterized perfectly,
and depicted in an apt manner.

Abt the music, well we all know how good the music is...So need I add any
more?..:)

 After a long time this movie Jodha Akbar grows on you. I have been watching
 the movie almost everyweek when it comes on TV and it seems perfect in all
 ways except aishwarya's acting. The music, Lyrics and BGMs are top quality.
 I think its one of the very rare films which is has very rich lyrics
 supported by equally brilliant compositions.
 And there are so many saperate pieces composed in BGMs unlike rehashes of
 tunes from the soundtrack which rahman does quite often.

 I think overall its a classic.

 chartbusters in the album. As Diwali nears, the competition will naturally
 hot up and we can only say who won in the end when both the films release on
 16th October.

 In the clash between Pritam and Rahman, one name we forgot to mention is
 that of composer duo, Sajid-Wajid whose latest album, MAIN AURR MRS KHANNA
 (which too is a Diwali release), is selling quite well and the film may
 attract the family crowd, who wish for some wholesome 'mushy' entertainment.


 As of now, it's Rahman all the way! So cheers, Rahmaniacs!

[arr] Just watched Couples Retreat!

So, I went to the local theatres at the earliest convenience to catch this 
flick.

The movie: It's okay, I had a few good laughs, but nothing great.  The content 
is for mature audience really.  I'm surprised this movie is PG-13, it should 
really be R.

The music: Well, given that this is a comedy movie, the music should not be 
taken too seriously.  Music in these comedy movies just plays in the 
background, without getting too involved in the movie.  And that is exactly the 
treatment it's received here.  Although, Rahman's tracks have been used 
throughout the movie, the movie contains various other tracks not featured on 
the Soundtrack.

The good:
-Rahman's first Hollywood venture :)
-Music used at some prominent places

The bad:
-Rahman's music is not the only music in the movie
-Movie doesn't start with Rahman's music
-Sajna, the song, is not featured in the movie, although, the theme can be heard
-Kurukuru is not featured in the movie, bits can be heard here and there
-Nana is featured in the movie, and also for the end credits

Sure, from above, you can see that there's more bad than good, but I'm not 
disappointed.  I'm glad I'm finally able to walk into any records store here in 
LA and pick up a soundtrack by Rahman and that I can hear Rahman's music in a 
Hollywood movie. 

Looking forward to more Hollywood ventures and some amazing soundtracks by 
Rahman in the future!
