Mid-Tier - Installing ISAPI_REDIRECT_DLL

Listers,
Can someone please help me with a Mid-Tier issue? The issue is with the
Mid-Tier 7.1 installation hanging trying to install the ISAPI_REDIRECT_DLL? It
just sits there, apparently doing nothing.

ARS 7.1 Patch 01

Both are running on seperate VMs. Connectivity is solid. I turned on allow
ISAPI extensions in IIS after the first attempt. No help. It's not producing
any errors in the logs. Just hangs. I've checked the prereqs and don't think I
missed anything.

I've selected the option to install Tomcat. Using the ARAdmin default password
for the config. which I setup during the ARS install. Cleared the drop downs
for Preference and Home Page server and Data Vis servers.

Thanks all in advance!

Resolution - Mid-Tier - Installing ISAPI_REDIRECT_DLL

2008-01-16 Thread Brian Gillock
I found that Tomcat could not be made a service. Of course there were no such
errors in the install logs, I found it by installing Tomcat separately.

2008-02-14 Thread Brian Gillock
True, but during the Custom install you have the option to install or not
the different adapters for DB2, File, SQL, Oracle and XML. I don't know if
they are installed by default on the Express install or not, I did the
Custom install. But you bring up another point, make sure you have a
license for the IE. I don't know if, like the other apps, won't install
without it, but it's a good idea to check.

But in my last fresh 7.0.1 install even that dependency didn't exist. I'm
guessing BMC decided not to link the two any longer, although I don't recall

We are running AR System 7.01 connecting to an Oracle 10g database.
We are maintaining our people by importing the records from a view

and then run Active links to look for and populate any changes to the
people records. We repopulate the staging table with fresh data

clearing the staging table. Any ideas what I could do to accomplish
this?

Re: User Tool can't see the server..???

2008-04-01 Thread Brian Gillock
It would be helpful if you could copy and paste your errors for us.

This may seem odd, but I have seen a case where the extensions folder was
not included with the extension loader. And it will run without that
folder. Obviously this will cause issues such as you are seeing.

As for the licensing, if you are running 7.1 you shouldn't need to enter the
hosted. It's in the top right corner. Click Add New, select AR Server and
enter your Key and Expiration date then save and you should be good to go.

I think I have our test 7.1 system installed but keep getting two "errors".

When I install the asset manager, I get a message about an error loading

extensions. I run the extension loader which seems to run successfully

but when I rerun the asset manager the error is still there. It doesn't give

either an error number or any other useful information. Any suggestions?

The second "error" is a bit more puzzling. I can go into the admin tool and

see the server, forms, etc. with no problem. However, when I go into the

user tool and want server information it shows an error that seems to

indicate it can't find the server.

One more thing..I've gotten the trial licenses to test wth, but am not

sure what information goes where..for example, is the "key" field

the "HOST ID" or the "LICENSE" field in the trial license email. I've

tried a lot of combinations but really don't know if it's working or not -

we get an error for the ARServer license but it still seems to register it.

Thanks for any directions that anyone can point me in to resolve these

issues!!

DSL Import

2008-04-10 Thread Brian Gillock
Listers,

When we did our application installs we didn't want, and
didn't think we'd need the DSL. But now we've changed our minds and would
like to install it. According to the ITSM install guide, if you uncheck it
during the app installs, it still installs the workflow, just not the data.
With that in mind, if we follow the steps in the ITSM Config guide for
importing vendor data, will that give us what we need? If not, is there a
way to install the DSL without reinstalling one of the apps?

OT - Humor

2008-04-25 Thread Brian Gillock
Okay, this is probably a little cheesy, but in light of the today's Rant, I
thought maybe some of us could use a little levity. Some of us may even
knead it.

SAD NEWS...

Please join me in remembering a great icon of the entertainment community.
The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma
complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71..

Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities
turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butterworth, Hungry Jack,
theCalifornia Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain
Crunch. The grave site was piled high with flours.

Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Doughboy as a man
who never knew how much he was kneaded. Doughboy rose quickly in show
business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not
considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked
schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times he still was a crusty old man
and was considered a positive roll model for millions.

Doughboy is survived by his wife Play Dough, two children, John Dough and
Jane Dough, plus they had one in the oven. He is also survived by his
elderly father, Pop Tart.

The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.

If this made you smile for even a brief second, please rise to the occasion
and take time to pass it on and share that smile with someone else who may
be having a crumby day and kneads it.

Re: AIE

2009-10-20 Thread Brian Gillock
FYI - According to BMC support the Export AIE Config feature was
designed for them to help customers and cannot be used without
modification to migrate from one server to another. Not only do the
server names on the instances have to be changed, as mentioned below,
but there is one form's data that has to be removed entirely. I haven't
received the specifics on this, but wanted to relay what I do know. I
have done the import and made it work, but it required some manual
mucking about. That said, it should work fine if your server names are
the same and you have the same number of Instances. Hope this helps
without adding any confusion.

All,

We refreshed the dev DB with production DB and am having issues with AIE jobs.
Have found that on the Instance Console it shows host as to be the production
server.

Question: How do I change that to dev server? Also besides changing references
in connections is there any other place that I need to check.

Re: Imort Locations

2009-10-20 Thread Brian Gillock

Antonis,
The best way I've found to do this is using the Data Load Console in the
Data Management Tool. I believe this is patch 9005, though I can't
remember for certain. We have imported data into the load forms that
get installed with this tool; either through the import tool or AIE
depending on where the data resides. Then you simply Validate and
Promote the data and the DMT takes care of the rest.

I'm not sure this will help your problem specifically or how common this
knowledge is, but TomCat was the first product I ran into a problem with
the install because the TEMP variable has spaces in it. This problem
exist in several BMC products as well, so the first thing I do before
starting an install is change TMP andd TEMP too something like C:\Temp.
Also there are some products that do not like to install into a folder

The easiest way to keep Crystal Reports Server out of the Tomcat/Java

problems with Java, and makes upgrading/patching easier.

Hi all - I am trying to install Crystal Reports Server XI R2 on our
new MidTier 7.x box but I am running into a major issue and wanted to
know if anyone had an idea.

The MidTier server has Window 2003, IIS 6, Tomcat 5.5.26, MidTier 7.1
p 6, RKM 7.2 p 2 & ITSM's help files.

The issue that I am having is when I try to install Crystal it wants
to install another version of Tomcat on the server. It puts this
version of Tomcat in the Crystal installation folder. Since I already
have Tomcat on the server I don't want 2 versions. But I can't see
how to tell it to not install Tomcat but put the web files I need, to
apply the license, in the current Tomcat folder.

Can anyone help with this?

Thanks

If .NET isn't an option, I've had to setup Dashboards and Analytics on
the same machine before and tech support recommended letting them each
use their own install of Tomcat which works fine as long as you ensure
you change the port numbers so that they don't conflict with one
another. So, that should work in your case as well.

Re: ITIL Remedy

2008-05-05 Thread Brian Gillock
According to pg 125 of the Incident Management User Guide, if the HelpDesk is
ever assigned a ticket, they will always be the owner. I don’t have the ITIL
knowledge to explain the why. But give that a read. Unfortunately the impact
and the difference between Owner and Assigned Group is spread throughout the
document and not it one place, so it’s been a little difficult for me to get a
handle on that. In case you don’t have the doc, here is the meat.

Understanding incident ownership

Incident ownership is set when the incident is submitted. The incident owner

depends on the support group membership of the person submitting the

incident, as well as the support group being assigned the incident.

For example, consider the following three support groups:

! Support Group A has a support group role of Help Desk. Person A is in

Support Group A.

! Support Group B does not have a support group role of Help Desk; for

example, it might have a support group role of Tier 2. Person B is in

Support Group B.

! Support Group C does not have a support group role of

Based on these support groups, the following example events show how the

incident owner is set:

! Person A submits an incident. Because Person A is a member of a support

group with the role of Help Desk, ownership of the incident is set to

Support Group A, regardless of who is assigned this incident.

! Person B submits an incident and assigns it to Support Group A.

Ownership of the incident is set to Support Group A because the group

has the role of Help Desk.

! Person B submits another incident, and assigns the incident to Support

Group C. Support Group B becomes the owner, because Person B is the

submitter.

Hope that helps!

Brian

We automatically assign it to the Helpdesk Group (actually Service Desk if you

might want the group people go to for help with the application to be able to
reassign it when it is accidentally assigned to the wrong group.

:)

ARS isn't able to publish a Web Service using the WSE3 spec, but can consume
one as long as there's an authentication mechanism available(that is to say,
the .NET web service has a security policy in place to allow basic
authentication from ARS).

Brian,

No reason to apologize for such a question. ( At least you looked in
the docs first. :) )

That is the first time I had heard of a v3.0 for "WebServices". So I
did a quick google and found this:

"
Web Services Enhancements (WSE) 3.0 for Microsoft .NET
"

If that is what you are referring to... then my bet is the answer is
"it depends".

After 5 minutes of reading it looks like M$ is trying to wrap more
layers around "standards" (or things that some day might be true
adopted standards) to make new "M$ $tandard$" that are really not
standards nor could they ever really be because they are limited to
the MS platforms. ( The point of web services is to make things work
well no mater what the client or server platform / software /
orientation / management / age /etc...) But I admit that I have spent
as much time typing this response as I did looking at the details of
this new shiny toy from M$ so I may have misjudged it at first glance
too. ( I am aware of that possibility, and have no problem with it.)

However... with all of that said.

You did not mention if you desire ARS to publish with a WSE 3.0 accent
or consume a service that has a WSE 3.0 accent and I think the two
objectives likely have very different answers.

In general ARS's use of Web Services is "focused" on how they can be
used to benefit ARS applications. And as such they do have some
limitations due to decisions about how to map the general WS universe
into/out of an ARS application. BMC does not seem to be concerned
about "bleading edge" approaches for integrations. Rather they want
simple, clean and functional that give them a big bang for the
development time buck. ( After all they did not even support HTTP
basic authentication methods until something like v7.0? That is the
first three major versions that supported WS's [ 5.1.2, 6.0 and 6.3]
without that feature.) So when I saw the M$ page I found was marked as
"Date Published: 11/7/2005" then I really began to doubt that BMC
would support it.

It may help you to come to the same conclusion if you know that BMC's
ARS product is currently using (as far as I can tell) Apache Axis 1.2.
Which had a final release data of "(May 04, 2005)" according to
http://ws.apache.org/axis/ . Ok... stop giggling, the most recent Axis
version 1.4 was released on April 22, 2006. ( Which is over two years
old already ! )

If your desire is to consume an external WSE 3.0 web service from
inside an ARS application, and your ARS server is a Windows server,
then I would think it should work with a little luck. I bet it is
possible, but not easy. You likely need to write your own Filter
Plugin, base it in C or C++. ( Unless there is a Java to .Net bridge
out there, but I think you can find C to .NET binding/bridging
approaches fairly easily.) So I hope that the WSE 3.0 supports C (or
C++) so that you can use the ARS Filter Plugin API to get the job
done.

HTH.

Thanks to all for your support/wisdom. After speaking with BMC last night
and getting a WebEX of the product, I came to realize that DSO does not
"natively" support connection to another Remedy server any more. The
options appear to be:

1. Mixed solution using multiple Remedy tools and maintain the logic in EIE

2. Write an adapter in C/C++

3. Script the entire thing in ARSPerl/API etc

Anyway.. that's where we're at.

Thanks again to all...

One limitation with EIE/AIE will however be attachment fields (if any). I
guess if you can deal with that, you can try playing around with it. DSO
would not have that limitation.

Does anyone have any experience configuring data exchanges that moves data

Re: AIE 7.1 Get Results Stuck

2008-05-29 Thread Brian Gillock
Thanks Chris, but I'm not performing a query on an ARS form, just the
external DB. It also runs fine. I'm getting my data in no problem. It
only affects the Verify function and doesn't really prevent me from
continuing, it's just kind of an irritant. Thanks again for that info
though, I am probably going to need that in the not too distant future.

Are you querying a value in an ARS form? AIE 7.1.00.002 introduces a fatal
bug that is not present in patch 001 that trashes the query string rather
badly. No exchange with a qualification on an ARS form field will run. Try
turning on debug and look in the debug log for the point of failure. I had
to wait for them to send me a fix before I could apply patch 002; the fix
will be in patch 003.

AIE Escape Character?

2008-06-11 Thread Brian Gillock
Hey Listers,

I'm not positive what I'm trying to do is even possible, but
here's what I'm working on. I'm doing an import of users from source X.
Problem is X isn't completely reliable and some records are missing $Login$,
also I want all logins to be lowercase if they do exist. I'm setting
missing logins to "No Login" so I can fire notifications. Here is my
mapping statement.

STMT|IF $Login$ is NULL THEN

VALUE = "No Login"

ELSE

VALUE = function|lower($Login$)

ENDIF

What I end up with if they have a login is

function|lower(

The AIE docs state that literals must be in double quotes, and I have other
mappings that resolve VALUE = $field$, so I assumed using the function would
be good. Is it possible to use functions within IF statements? Is there
some escape character that I'm missing?

Update from BMC Engineering -
Current IF THEN ELSE does not have a provision to support functions,so we
cannot use any functions with exiting IF THEN ELSE syntax.

Update from Me -
Plan A = Add a filter that on submit or modify sets the field Login to
Lower($login$)
Plan B = do this with 2 mappings -
1. Query for Login = Null Do your set field "no login"
2. Query for Login Not Null Do your set field to function|lower($Login$)

Re: Question: $LASTID$

2008-06-14 Thread Brian Gillock
Here's a quick and dirty version...

Create a filter that performs a Set Fields action...From the Read Value for
Field From, select SQL

Use the following SQL command:
SELECT nextid FROM arschema WHERE name = ''

Select your field, make sure it's a numeric field, and set it to $1$ - 1.
$1$ being the first SQL Result Column.

I'm sure there are other ways to skin this cat, but that's the first I
thought of...

Re: CMDB Behavior

2008-06-17 Thread Brian Gillock
Hey Lou,
From what I've seen, you generally want to use a staging dataset and
then reconcile the data into your production dataset. Which it sounds like
is where you are at. The CMDB Install & Config guide shows how to setup the
reconciliation.
Also, I don't know if you thought about it, but the Integration
Engine will push directly to a CMDB class. It works pretty good and is
pretty easy to setup.

Hope that helps,
Brian

Good Morning List,

We are running CMDB v 2.0 under AR System v 7.0.1 patch 006. I am in
the
process of trying to load Asset Data to Remedy Asset Inventory, also v
7.0.1 patch 006. I've loaded data to a regular form via the Remedy
Import
Tool. I've then created an Active Link to "Push" the data to the
AST:Database form. It looks like I can only push the data to the CMDB
into
the dataset of Sandbox. Is this normal behavior?

We are a windows shop w/Windows Server 2003 & MS-SQL 2005.

Thank you,
Lou

With that said, the last time I did an install, selecting the box to install

The DSL forms are installed as part of the other ITSM apps, there is no
separate installation.

The data, however, needs to be loaded. This can be done during an ITSM app
installation (one of the options is to install DSL data).

If you look at the Remedy patch download page on the BMC site you can find
DSL data patches there.

Re: Unable to retrieve data from a form

2008-06-18 Thread Brian Gillock
Ankur,

Try turning off the table refreshes on open and see if it
still takes a long time. If it's the tables, then you need to look at your
table qualifications and try to slim the results down or chunk them. And
what I would do if it is the blobs that's causing your problem is move them
off to another table with an ID field to reference them. But, I'm
relatively new to this game, so I'm sure there are other, better ways.

Subject: Unable to retrieve data from a form

Hi Listers,

We have a form which has 5 BLOB fields. There are around 67000 records and
it takes around 3-4 hrs to search for a single record. I search on the
request_id. We do have couple of other indexes in place apart on Request ID
field.

The actual workflow is that an AL does a push field and creates a new record
in a form and then second Set field is fired in same AL which opens this new
record in modify window. So this is where it fails to open this new record
and even if I open the form and search for any record it takes forever to
show up and usually it freezes.

I have rebuild the indexes but no improvement. On another form without no
BLOB data and 100+ fields, it takes less than a sec to search a record.

Logs doesn't show anything. AL, SQL and filter log just shows the perfect
creation of new record and then on Display it does show the opening of the
form in SET Operation.

What all should I check?

ARS. 7.0 Patch 5

Re: Trying to Load Assets into CMDB/Asset Inventory

2008-06-20 Thread Brian Gillock
Another option is the Atrium Integration Engine. It allows you to map
directly into CMDB classes as well as normal AR forms. It will map from
flat files or other databases. I'm pulling asset data from SQL Server into
Remedy. I would caution you however, the AIE is incredibly temperamental.
But when it works it's really easy.

I have found it a good idea to create a staging dataset from the CMDB
console, and then setup a reconciliation job to move the data it into your
production dataset. This allows you to import from multiple data sources
and configure precedences.

I thought about importing directly into the AST form first but I get a
little paranoid moving any data directly from a spreadsheet to a system
form I like to stage it to make sure that all the data is clean. Also I
was hoping to automate this process for when we receive new equipment
and for inventory moves. Importing works great for the first load but I
don't think it will work well in the long run when I just need update
and asset.

How do you update your asset locations changes and such?

Thank you,

I import them directly to the AST:ComputerSystem. it does the push to
the other forms all on it's own.

I make sure I set several of the hidden/background fields and it works
well.

I did about 34K assets this way!

We loaded our assets into the system. It isn't easy but first import
into the BMC_CORE:BMC-BaseElement Form and then export out into an arx
file each Class ID - So you may have BMC_CORE:BMC-Equipment,
ComputerSystem etc. Then you import each individual one into
corresponding form - example Equipment goes into the
BMC_CORE:BMC_Equipment_ form and Printer go into the
BMC:CORE_BMC_Printer_ and BMC:CORE_BMC_HardwareSystemComponent_ Form.
Use the Update Existing Record when importing into this form.

Subject: Trying to Load Assets into CMDB/Asset Inventory

Hi List,

I am hoping someone can help me out. I am in the process of trying to
load our Server Assets into Remedy Asset Inventory and into the CMDB.
We
are running CMDB v 2.0 and our AR apps are v 7.0.1 patch 006, on Windows

2003 Server and MS SQL 2005.

I have a csv file listing out our server assets; I've loaded the data
from
the csv into a custom form via the Remedy Import Tool. I've then
created
a Filter to "Push" the data from the custom form into the
AST:ComputerSystem form.

I am receiving the following error message when the Filter fires:

The Product Categorization Tiers, Product Name and Manufacturer
combination
is not valid. Please use the menus provided for these fields to select
this information. (ARERR 44901)

I did create the Categorization Tiers, Product Name and Manufacturer
fields
on the custom form as Character fields and I am trying to "Push" the
data
from these fields to the corresponding fields on AST:ComputerSystem. I
am
using the same Name Values for the above fields in the custom form that
are
being used on the AST:ComputerSystem form. So I thought that this
should
work fine.

If I am reading the error right, I guess I should have created selection

fields instead of character ones on the custom form and use the same
Name
Values for each field. But I would have to think there must be an
easier
way of getting this data into the system.

I noticed that the same fields in question are character fields on the
BMC.Core:BMC_ComputerSystem - Join form. Should I have the Filter
"Push"
to this form instead of the AST:ComputerSystem form? If I do "Push" to

the BMC form will I see the data in the AST form once the Reconciliation

Engine runs?

I've also recently downloaded the AIE product, should I be using that
instead of the Import Tool & Filter process?

Any suggestions will be very helpful.

Thank you,
Lou

Good morning all,

I have the newest release of AIE and I am trying to get it to talk to a
remote oracle database. The Server is 7.1 patch 3 and using MSSQL.

I have installed the 10g client and can talk to the remote Oracle system
using sqlplus from the box where the arserver is running.

There is nothing in any log that I can find, that shows any attempt of the
AIE trying to connect to the Oracle database.

I did try setting up the AIE to talk to a MSSQL database and that worked.

I am starting to wonder if, you can only talk to a database that the server
talks to (for example in my case only MSSQL, since that is what the server
is talking to).

Any ideas, as of yet BMC support has had non.

Howard

SQL Server huge translogs and very poor performance

2008-06-23 Thread Brian Gillock
Hey Listers,

Does anyone have any tips for maintaining transaction logs
in SQL Server? Ours seem to growing at an insane rate and nothing our DBAs
are doing is helping at all. And I'm continually getting time outs when
trying to save workflow. And that is without any users. There is nothing
special setup in development and I can do a backup, truncating the logs and
that helps for a while. In production, however, we have log mirroring setup
for DR purposes. It's killing me. The DB and AR box are both on their own
dual quad core servers with 4GB RAM, so I don't think it's a resource issue.
Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

With this option, there will be some minimal maintenance on the DB side of
things: the set up of the linked server, and setting any permissions to the
aradmin user on the target table.

These things are managed/maintained/migrated outside of Remedy, since they
are at the database level, so that's something to consider when testing or
setting up a new environment (QA, stating, etc) or making sure your
environments "match".

needed. I'm not a DBA, nor do I have admin access outside of what is needed
by Remedy. Which is one reason I wanted to avoid additional maintenance
points for the DBAs. But, if it's necessary, then so be it.

Thanks!

You have to define on SQL server Enterprise Manager a linked server - see

Thank you Guillaume, but I looked at that and am not finding how to specify
the external server. The docs made it sound like you could do that too, and
I've been looking. I'm guessing there is some kind of configuration required
to be able to specify the external DB. Can you point me in the right
direction please?

Hey Listers,

I'm hoping this is an easy question that only I don't know
the answer to. Is there a way to push data into an external database (SQL
Server 2005) without using a view form or web service? I don't want to use
a view form because of the maintenance associated with it.

Thanks!

Richard,

I had a similar issue and it turned out that Tomcat didn't
install properly during the Mid Tier install. Didn't show any errors, just
didn't install. After much troubleshooting it turned out that the version
of Tomcat I installed (can't recall of the top of my head) didn't like
spaces in the environments TEMP path. After I changed the TEMP path to
C:\temp Tomcat installed fine and then I was able to reinstall the Mid Tier
and all was good.

Thanks for the reply.I did the netstat but there didn't seem to be anything
that

was at :8080 . It looks like IIS might be using port 80 for the default
web page.

Since the Tomcat "welcome" page won't display would that mean that there's

a Tomcat issue rather than an IIS issue? I followed the BMC midtier install
manual

but found there was no errors/troubleshooting section in the manual.

Make sure IIS isn't using that port either. It shouldn't by default, but if
you didn't set up IIS I would check it.

Also, if you think something else may be using port 8080 (which I can't tell
from your email), the easiest way to check is by running netstat -b from a
command prompt, and looking through the output to see what executable is
using port 8080.

What kind of disk subsystem is your database on? Faster the better. But also
make sure your transaction log is on a completely separate set of physical
disks than your data file. That way they won't contend for the same
resources. If possible, keep the paging file and the OS on their own
dedicated disk(s) too.

And what RAID configuration are you using?

This may be obvious but you didn't specify what version of SQL, etc. At a
minimum, you do have daily transaction log backups running right? Unless
you back up the logs on a regular basis (at least daily), they will continue
to grow and degrade performance. Since you don't get backups by default
when you create a database, it is easy to overlook.

Second; we found one of our servers was set up with a very restrictive and
fixed Virtual Memory setting (paging file). You may want to check that and
increase it if needed.

Since your servers are only 4GB, AWE memory allocation shouldn't be a
factor. When you are running more than 4GB, turning that on helps a lot.

If you have regular transaction log backups, the recommendation below makes
a lot of sense since you need to try and determine what is causing the rapid
growth.

About the only tip I can give you is this. Give yourself enough room for
your transaction logs. They are growing for a reason...you could try
turning on sql logging to see what your server is busy doing because the
logs shouldn't be growing if your app isn't doing anything. Your DBA should
be able to tell you who is connected to the db, and your sql logs should be
able to tell you who is making modifications to what values.

OT: ACD Integration

2008-06-30 Thread Brian Gillock
Hey List,

We are working on an integration with Apropos 6.5.1. In our
script that pops the incident form and performs a query, we are getting
extra qualifications in it. The query we are passing is 'Incident*+ =
"INC0003" which as the API docs state works in the advanced search
bar. The function we are using is

Set EntryList = ARForm.Query(query)

When I view the SQL logs, it is actually querying as follows:

SELECT
T983.C1,C100161,C10,C7,C100164,C100169,C100018,C1000
19,C100082,C100560,C103009,C100869,C100217,C1002
18 FROM T983 WHERE ((T983.C100161 = 'INC0003') AND
(T983.C301788500 = 'SYS:SLM:EventSchedule_Clone') AND (T983.C301610100 =
'SYS:SLM:Measurement_Clone') AND (T983.C100161 = 'INC0003'))
ORDER BY 2 DESC, 1 ASC

Which is causing a type mismatch error, can't search text in a varchar.
When I remove the extra qualification and run the query from the SQL console
it works. Can someone tell me why it's adding..

AND (T983.C301788500 = 'SYS:SLM:EventSchedule_Clone') AND (T983.C301610100 =
'SYS:SLM:Measurement_Clone') AND (T983.C100161 = 'INC0003'))
ORDER BY 2 DESC, 1 ASC

Windows Server 2003

SQL Server 2005

ARS 7.1 patch 2

ARUser 7.1

Thank you!

Brian,

Just a guess

In the User tool, turn on Active Link logs. You likely have workflow
that is setting additional fields with some value on "Query".

Email Engine Problem

2007-09-25 Thread Brian Gillock
Hey Listers...
I just installed the email engine on my laptop. I created a gmail account, for
testing. I configured inbound and outbound mailboxes to use the gmail account.
I performed the test as described in the Email Engine Installation and Setup. I
see the messages in AR System Email Messages, but they aren't going anywhere. I
restarted the laptop and even restarted the EE. No joy.

I'm not getting any errors in AR System Email Error Logs or in arerror.log and
no errors during install. It simply appears to be doing nothing.

Subject: Re: Email Engine Problem

**

Knowledge base entry KM-00011522 may help starting email.

My email engine stops periodically. I'm just trying to set up what I
thought was going to be easy email and it's turning into hassle email. If I
do something in my testing that it doesn't like it then stops sending emails
altogether. I also cannot seem to get html templates to send.

I found just stop/start on the email service didn't work. I had to do the
emailstart bat file.

Good luck,

Susan

Hey Listers...

I just installed the email engine on my laptop. I created a gmail account,
for testing. I configured inbound and outbound mailboxes to use the gmail
account. I performed the test as described in the Email Engine Installation
and Setup. I see the messages in AR System Email Messages, but they aren't
going anywhere. I restarted the laptop and even restarted the EE. No joy.

I'm not getting any errors in AR System Email Error Logs or in arerror.log
and no errors during install. It simply appears to be doing nothing.

What kind of field are you putting the info into? Maybe it's the field that

Hi,
I am trying to do a Set Field Action for a Field - Qualifier with $PROCESS$
cat /tmp/a.out and when the content of file a.out is more than around 4K,
Qualifier field contains only the first 4K of file a.out.
Is this some limitation on a $PROCESS$ command?

Thanks,

Some databases have column limitation. Is this an Oracle database? Oracle
databases generally shouldn't have column limitations as they would store 0
length fields in a CLOB field.

What's your database? You might want to check up with your DBA if your
database allows for more than 4k worth of data in that field..

I am setting the value into Field - Qualifier which is unlimited (zero

Server to Server data transfer without DSO

2007-05-11 Thread Brian Gillock
Background: I need to send several forms (data) back and forth between two
servers. I'm not using, nor can I use DSO. The first solution I came up
with was to create a table field and using the advanced feature (Table
Property tab), dynamically set the server and form names. I also used the
form I was moving as the Sample Form. This solution worked fine when I used
an individual table field for each form I wanted to move. I simply did a
set fields for the server and form name from the "remote" server and
refreshed my table field and, viola.data. Then I just walked through the
table and pushed the data to the corresponding "local" form. This worked as
I expected.

The number of forms grew and is unmanageable with multiple tables. So I
went through all my forms and noted every fieldID and field type I would
need to move and then created a backend form with all necessary fields. I
then created table field (let's call this Table Field A) using my backend
form to create the columns. Again I used the advanced capabilities for
server, form, and external qualifications.

Problem: Besides the RequestID, I'm only getting one column of data in
Table Field A for any of my forms.

Troubleshooting Steps: Ensured all fieldIDs and types matched. I also
slapped on a table field (Table Field B) using one of the larger forms (Form
C) as the sample form and then stopped my processing after the first form
with multiple columns. Table Field A still only contained one column's
worth of data, but Table Field B had both columns of data (the field ids
matched). Huh?

Recap: Table Field A, with 10 columns pulling from Form A (which has 2
columns of data I need) only receives 1 column of data plus Request ID.
While Table Field B, with its 8 columns pulling from Form A received both
columns I was looking for plus Request ID. The only difference is the
sample form used in the table properties.

Thank you for any ideas or suggestions,

Brian

Did you localize your server or the application - that has always had
the effect of "hiding" the canned reports because they have inconsistent
Locale data... null, en, or en_US. They have to match the server locale
to be seen in the consoles.

Which parts of this do you already have working? Is the only piece you are

We have an application in which we have some data from ORACLE through feed
run.In this data there is a column "Title".Now, if the title of that person
is "A",then i want to set a particular flag in 'ORACLE'.For a particular
user, if the flag is set in 'ORACLE',then that user needs to be added in a
particular "Permission Group" in Remedy. How to go ahead for this approach?

Re: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

2007-05-18 Thread Brian Gillock
LJ,
I can't remember for sure off the top of my head and I don't have
the install guides at hand, but I believe the Mid-Tier install guide says to
set the MaxHeapSize to 300K. If you have the guide, take a look in there.
I might be thinking 7.x also.

Subject: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

Environment
ServletExec 5.0.0.13
Mid-Tier 6.03.00 patch 021
Windows 2003
Server 6.3 Patch 20

Earlier this week we moved our Mid-Tier to a new box. Old server is a
1.4GHz with 2GB Ram...new box is 2.6GHz with 4GB Ram. Both boxes are same
version of software...minimal config (if any) on ServletExec. On the new
web server we started seeing these errors

[Fri May 18 13:16:36 MDT 2007] java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
[Fri May 18 13:16:36 MDT 2007] ServletExec: caught exception -
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

About the only thing I have been able to do was restart the entire server to
get it to work again.

I found an article that said to look in the VMSettings.perf file for the
line

maxHeapSize

It recommended increasing its settingwell I did have a VMSettings.perf
file...but it only contained the lines

version=1
systemOut=com.newatlanta.servletexec.SESystemOutputStream
systemErr=com.newatlanta.servletexec.SESystemOutputStream

So I checked the old server and the exact same thingso now I'm confused
how my new server with faster processing power and more memory is having
memory issues where my old one wasn't. So...I added the following line to
the perf file

maxHeapSize=128000 (this particular post's recommendation)

But I just got another of the errors (although doesn't seem to be down like
it was before)...recommendations on how large that maxHeapSize value should
be? BTW...this is all custom application development...0 OOTB apps. This
server will eventually also house the production App as wellwhat is the
default size?should I take it to 512MB?

I eagerly anticipate your recommendations

Re: Opening the User Tool from the Command Prompt

2007-06-01 Thread Brian Gillock
Norm,
It is in fact possible to launch the UT from a command prompt. I
don't know about parameters, but depending on your environment you might try
setting all users search path to a "home" network location. Then you can
configure the ar.ini and ar file to not prompt for login and with
appropriate server info. I'm not sure where/how ARS stores username and
password, but once a user has logged in that information is retained
somewhere. With those settings I can launch my UT and it auto logs me into
that last server I was logged into. So, at best a partial solution, but
hope it helps.

Cheers,
Brian

By the way, I see from your email address that you are at Eglin. Is there a
RUG here in NW FL?

Menu Question

2007-06-05 Thread Brian Gillock
ARS Comrades,

I may be overlooking the obvious here, but. I have a form that stores
patient information. In that I have primary and secondary physicians. I
realize now that storing those in the same form wasn't exactly the best way
to go about it, but it's getting late in the game and I'm hoping not to have
to make a change. Is there a way to pull both physicians into a menu? I
want to be able to select between the two physicians in another form.

Thanks!

Deployable Application Permissions Issue

2007-06-18 Thread Brian Gillock
Listers,
I’ve been working on an application for a long while, and only ever opened it
up by opening the user tool, the object list, then the apps “Home Page”. It
never occurred to me that, it would act any differently from a shortcut to the
application. Now, I’m testing the application shortcut and it’s not bringing up
Primary Form. It pops open a default home page with the message no applications
or entry points. Under application properties there is a primary form set, and
that primary form is added as an access point. Permissions are set for all
roles for access. And the state of the app is maintenance (though I have tried
production as well). The groups are mapped to the roles. The primary form is
also set for entry point in search mode. If I put the user in the
Administrators group, it opens the primary form, but in New mode. The users all
work fine if I go straight user tool and open the primary form from the object
list.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,

Brian,

How did you create the shortcut... ie from a form, or from an application?

SOVED: Deployable Application Permissions Issue

2007-06-21 Thread Brian Gillock
Thanks Marc! Not only do you have to have the Primary Form set, but you
have to have an entry point set on that form. I figured setting the Access
Point for the app, and the a Primary Form was enough. And then you still
have to set the Default Home Form in the server or the clients if you use
something other than a "Home Page".

Thanks again,
Brian

Cool. In the Application Properties on the Forms tab, do you have a primary
form selected. I set an access point but left the Primary Form selection
blank and got the same behavior that you did. However, when I set the
Primary Form, the behavior changed to what I expected.

Re: Help with simple SSO authentication

2013-05-30 Thread Brian Gillock
Hello Matt,
I've recently been working on this myself. There are a couple things
to look at, one being what is provided by BMC in KA286851
<https://kb.bmc.com/infocenter/index?page=content&id=KA286851>is
incomplete. There is no interceptor, unless it's in the uncompiled C code
somewhere. I don't have access to a compiler. I had to download WAFFLE
<http://waffle.codeplex.com/>and implement it. Also, ensure that your link
isn't directly to the login.jsp. Yeah, I know that's the, does it have gas
in it, question.

HTH,
Brian Gillock

Slightly OT, AREA LDAP on 8.1 it's now a Java plugin so for SSL you'll need
a Java Keystore versus a Certificate Store.

Re: 7.6.04 Install question...

Are you running the installer, "as administrator?" If you are installing
on a Windows platform, is DEP enabled and have you added the installer to
the list?

If you are attempting to install to an existing DB, make sure the login
credentials you are using are correct.

Table Field/SQL Behavior

2017-02-03 Thread Brian Gillock
I'm working upgrading ITSM from 7.6.04 to 9.1.02 and after getting
everything installed and started testing 9.1 only returns one support group
where as 7.6 returned both support groups assigned covering those
OpCats from the template search in Incident Management. I started digging
into the workflow and logging to see what the differences were. Aside from
the table qualification being different, the resulting SQL has a different
value in the SELECT part of the query. There are multiple columns in the
tables so I expected multiple fields in the SELECT part. I feel like I'm
just missing a basic bit of functionality of table fields, but I can't for
the life of me figure out how that is determined. Obviously the table
qualification makes up the WHERE clause, but how is the SELECT portion
determined if not by the columns(fields) selected in the table field?
Below are the two different queries.

7.6 -
SELECT TOP 3 T2074.C1 FROM T2074 WITH (NOLOCK)
WHERE ((T2074.C101437 = 'ESS Remedy ARSystem - Other') AND

9.1 -
SELECT DISTINCT TOP 302 T2074.C101437 FROM T2074
 WHERE ((T2074.C4 = 'bgillock') AND
(T2074.C7 = 1) AND
(T2074.C100100 = 1) AND
(T2074.C100580 = 1) AND
(T2074.C101437 LIKE '%ESS Remedy ARSystem - Other%'))
ORDER BY 1 ASC

I created a new form with a table field just for my own sanity and it
behaved as I would expect, the SELECT contained all the fields I selected
to return to the table.

Thank you in advance!

Questions I forgot...Where does the DISTINCT come from? What causes that?

Thanks!

You are right, LJ. I was looking at client side logging only. I found the
SQL I was expecting in server side logging. Thank you!

Re: [ARS Upgrade] Could not start AR Server in timely manner

2018-03-06 Thread Brian Gillock
Try adding a -t before the -i to your armonitor.cfg and see if the start up
trace log gives you any clues.

Output will be written in the 2 startup trace files created when the AR
Server service is started- "arstartup_trace--MM-DD-tt-mm.log". These
files are created in the DB folder.
