Hinge, I support that sentiment.

All of you may have noticed that I had not been posting in this group
since my faux pas a while back. Denise decided to label me a bigoted
sob and my feelings have been hurt.

I am sorry, Denise. You have not personally met me; if you had, you
would know that I made an unfortunate mistake with my errant post and
that I am a very diverse person who wouldn't intentionally hurt
anything.

Just a final comment to my errant post: I do, actually have a pet
duck; that in itself is a bit humorous. The pet duck group which I
belong to is very light-hearted and the message that I errantly
posted here was supposed to have been sent from my duck to a duck in
Washignton State who brags about all the wimmen (not a mis-spelling
in the context) in his life.

I had just started using (the then new) Internet Explorer 7 with
tabbed browsing and I simply got my tabs mixed up. I realized my
error quickly and I posted an explanation almost immediately.

As a result, I was called a bigoted sob. I was also accused of
having been drunk.

All that being said, I will apologize one last time. I am sorry that
I made a mistake. I have learned from it.

I hope that I will not get flack for THIS post as I joined this group
because I DO believe in Asbury Park and it is one of my favorite
places to visit.

Like the person who posted regarding about moving to A.P., I have
also considered moving. I am in support of all of you in Asbury Park
and continually ask myself what I can do to to make things better for
everyone. (If you have suggestions, please share.)

Best wishes to all of you. I support Hinge's suggestion that the
group stay on topic and attempt to refrain from the belittlement of
others.

I realize that my errant post was received as an insult in this forum
and I have apologized and promise that I have learned.

[AsburyPark] Re: What the hell happened to this message board?

2007-03-11 Thread justifiedright
Perhaps people should consider the first few paragraphs from this
opinion piece in today's AP Press before they type onto this board
(or any other) these baseless personal attacks.

Follies of youth can haunt you when they're posted online

Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 03/11/07

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

How often have we all pasted that cartoon balloon over the mental
image of a youthful indiscretion? Thank goodness no one had a
camera, we might add.

Now everybody has a camera, and youthful indiscretions are captured
for all time. And suddenly, we're not so young anymore.

The MySpace-Facebook-dot-com generation has come of age, and some
are finding that their silly stunts have come back to haunt them as
they enter the grown-up marketplace. Others are finding that their
private moments are not so private after all.

Three young women featured anonymously in a recent Washington Post
article told horror stories of their attempts to find jobs, only to
discover that they may have been disqualified by online postings by
virtual strangers. Gossip and graphics included.

One, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate and Yale law student who had gotten
articles published in law journals, interviewed at 16 firms for a
summer job and received no offers. How could that be?

It turned out that she and others had been discussed in not-so-
flattering terms on an online message board, AutoAdmit, which is run
by a third-year law student at the University of Pennsylvania and a
23-year-old insurance agent, according to the Post. The board boasts
up to 1 million visitors a month, and postings can be anonymous.

And vicious.

Another woman featured in the Post story is a Yale law student and
Fulbright scholar who graduated summa cum laude. Not only was she
the subject of a derogatory AutoAdmit chat, but photographs of her
were posted on a hottest law school student contest site with
graphic discussions of her attributes.

Not everyone hates to be considered hot, but this woman was afraid
to go to the gym because visitors to the site were encouraged to
take cell-phone pictures of her. Beware the chatterbox in the shower
stall next door. Another young woman felt afraid when online chatter
about her led to an anonymous sexual threat.

The tension between free speech and privacy is nothing new, but the
debate has become more complicated by the explosion in video
portability and networking Web sites. In today's uncivil society,
the stakes are high and the rules are low.

Invite anonymity to the mix and hostility finds release in the
vacuum created when shame went missing.

Unfortunately for some, employers are now using the Internet to vet
job candidates. They, too, can be privy to those just-for-fun
college forays, as well as to commentary from those with an ax to
grind.

The Post reported research showing that about half of U.S. hiring
officials use the Internet to evaluate job applicants and that about
one-third had denied employment based on material produced by an
Internet search engine. Could it happen to you? Apparently, it could
happen to anyone.

Today's college students frequently post their bios with photos on
Facebook.com. Innocent and inexperienced in the realm of
repercussions, they don't hesitate to display their silliest selves,
clothed and often not.

The generation that was serenaded by Madonna and marinated in sexual
imagery now dwells in a high-tech, freewheeling, sexually explicit
environment where porn is the new risque and everybody's gone wild.

Ivy League and other large universities frequently are home to sex
magazines featuring students who say posing nude is fun and
a badge of honor, according to last Sunday's New York Times
magazine. What's the big deal? A body is a body is a body, and I'm
proud of my body, and why not show my body? asks Alecia Oleyourryk,
co-founder of Boink, a user-friendly porn magazine produced by
students at Boston University.

It's not going to keep me from having a job.

Famous last words, perhaps.

It is true that a body is just a body, and everybody has one. But
those who've lived awhile know that what we knew with certainty in
our 20s isn't necessarily what we come to know in our 30s, 40s and
50s. When you sexualize and objectify yourself, it's asking a lot
that others — including future bosses — refrain from doing the same.

Advice to the young: If you can't imagine your mother or father
doing something, you probably shouldn't do it either. Your kids may
remind you of that someday.

Thanks for jogging my memory.

Better than the government's Freedom of Information Act which can take many
months to yield results is, I repeat, Yahoo's Advanced Search function which
takens only seconds.

Back in the Days of 2005, this joint was jumpin'; sure was a banner  year;
there were posts by one who some claimed was trying to be anonymous, I
guess because of no profile: _AsburyPark : Search Results_

Threads did go off-topic occasionally; but sometimes they're the most
amusing, and at other times they reveal some mettle. And when they reveal
some
local color about Asbury Park, then I suggest they're really not off topic.

I won't paste any  excerpts here so as not to be accused of being biased;
however, none are mine.

JUST WHEN I THINK I'M OUT, THEY PULL ME BACK IN!
I think I made it clear that I've no inhibitions about speaking my
mind, right or wrong, and regardless of how I may be viewed for it. I
have no reason to post anonymously, FRED. I would not attack JB for
his disability, I have one of my own, thanks. Hence the firsthand
information about handicapped people being harassed in handicapped
spots. I've had my placard for over 13 years. You'll recall that the
first time Rook582 mentioned the MS thing, my comment was
contradictory, stating that alcohol will do that too. Now why would
I post anything anonymously? I'm not a coward, like you. I have
strong beliefs, and love my first ammendment right to say them. Yeah,
the boy's club might send their bulls after me for saying them, but
that, nor anything else scares me into anonymously posting my
OPINIONS. I put them out there publicly. The reader can decide for
themselves if I am right or wrong. As strong as my opinions are, I am
always the first to point out that I'm a human, and therefore can be
wrong. What are you? An anonymous, and thereby unverifiable poster of
messages. I would, however attack JB for being an ass. I hope that
clears things up for you.

Robert,

You have no proof that Rolemover is JB. Imagine if you are wrong
about that. You are posting all these terrible things about him and
the guy you are arguing with may not be him.

Please stop doing that. It really isn't fair to the man.

I don't understand it either. A different councilman, who asked
that the bike rule be strictly enforced, already came on this board
and admitted he was the one that did so.

I don't understand the animosity toward JB then. Even in your own
version of things that you posted here it was Fishman, The Police
Chief and the City Manager that originally made representations to
you.

I don't see JB mentioned in that scenario at all.

I really don't understand your focus on him.

[AsburyPark] Re: What the hell happened to this message board?

2007-03-11 Thread asburyparkpedaler
I don't think rolemover is JB. Furthermore, I cannot find a post that
has been alleged before to have someone else claim responsibility for
ordinance changes. I'm not saying it's not there, I just haven't seen
it; or interpreted it the same way. I also know that, regardless of
who goes on record for doing so, the incident that was immediately
followed by 24 hour ban of bikes on the boards came the day after JB
vowed to never feel intimidated on MY boardwalk again. Read into
that, how you like. It does not even address the issue about how JB
and the rest of the club made me personally, and others feel as
outcasts; when trying to come here and do a good thing. They should
be doing naked hula dances for pioneering merchants coming to this
place where there is lawlessness akin to the old west.

[AsburyPark] Re: What the hell happened to this message board?

2007-03-11 Thread asburyparkpedaler
This does not change my opinion. I read this one before. JK wanted
enforcement of the ordinance, with new extended hours. I hold no ire
towards him for that, nor towards anyone who wanted what is best for
the safety of everyone on the boardwalk. That's what I wanted too.
This change came after the initial coming to a head of the issue. I'm
talking about who is responsible for instituting enforcement of a 24
hour bicycle ban; which my guess is, had no validity in writing; if
you get my drift. My anger and frustration stem from the city
changing horses midstream at my expense. It's simple, If I'd been
told by Kinmon and Co. that it was out their hands, and I was going
to be on my own, should I decide to invest in this new fleet; I would
have kept the fleet from the previous year in place (I still had it
in it's entirety). I invested an additional 14K after being told that
there would be no issues with my new fleet (provided my patrons were
not riding them dangerously, etc). This is why I asked (in April)
before making the investment. All I wanted from anyone, was
representation of the truth, so I knew the criteria to base my
decisions on. Also, for the record, there was never any strict
enforcement of the ordinance prior to or after this. I had the
misfortune of being located next to two of the establishments that
the cops predominantly hung out at; making it out of the question
that I'd be able to rent my product out in relation to the selective
enforcement.

P.S. Tom, I'll be glad to have you rent my equiptment, but please see
home page on my website for details. Particularly, to call first in
the off season; for a heads up. I don't have regular hours (I'm there
when I'm there) in the off-season, but am glad to hold appointments.

I also requested that regardless of what the policy was – a bike
lane, riding until 12pm, etc. that we have STRICT enforcement of
the
ordinance. We could not continue to have an anything goes
approach to bikes on the boardwalk. I noted that on two occasions
while I was running on the boardwalk, I was almost mowed down by
bicyclists (FYI, they were middle-aged white male riders). Given
that I am a former pro athlete and still in pretty good shape, I
was
able to dodge these guys. My concern was that some little old lady
might not be as lucky, thus my push to have strict enforcement of
whatever ordinance was on the books.

I'm only pointing this out because I'm not sure why you would go
with your assumption about Bruno, when JK is admitting he was the
councilman that insisted that the ordinance have STRICT enforcement.

Please don't anyone think I'm being negative toward JK. I support
him 100% on his request for a 24/7 bike lane down the Boardwalk. I
hope he gets that done someday. I'm with JK on that.

I only point it out because I don't think you should say it was JB
that made the cops strictly enforce this, based on surmise, when JK
 admits it was him.

(ps - twice last summer my family and I tried to rent your surrey
but none were available. Almost came to Allenhurst to get one

Are you suggesting Jim G has a few screws loose?

I know Jim G and he doesn't. I count him as one of my friends. I

The MySpace-Facebook-The MySpace-Facebook-WBRdot-com generatio
are finding that their silly stunts have come back to haunt them as
they enter the grown-up marketplace.

Not everyone hates to be

accord with the article.

Is that what you were trying to point out?

If so, thank you.

Now everybody has a camera, and youthful indiscretions are

I guess the difference there Mario is that I know JB has MS.

I know Jim G and he doesn't. I count him as one of my friends. I

Hopefully you see the difference.

This is the problem with you - you pretend to not see differences.

I'll say it one more time for effect, but knowing you will ignore it.

Jim B ACTUALLY HAS MS. To start hammering him for it is quite bad.

Jim G ACTUALLY HAS NO MENTAL AILMENTS. To start hammering him is no
different than the way you come after me all the time, or the way
other people on here make allegations agasint one another.

The comment about JB is the first time I've ever seen someone on
this board go after a KNOWN disability. Jim G has no such thing.

The difference could not be more clear.

You could not care any less.

Now make sure to post something in response that absolutly,
postitively, does not address anything I just wrote.

[AsburyPark] Re: Tom, is our conversation about JK, JB Instituting 24 hr. ban over?

2007-03-11 Thread asburyparkpedaler
Understandable. When this issue came to a head, there was a 24 hr.
ban. I found out after closing my doors that first day. I decided
that I would persevere by opening at 6pm to rent my bikes (long story
behind that as well; hours on signs we're evidently wrong). When I
did, the same officers that had told me I coulsd'nt rent them
earlier, explained to me that it was a 24 hr. emergency ordinance.
Furthermore, as I recall, after they lifted the 24 hr. ban
officially, they continued to enforce indiscriminately with regard to
the hour of the day. Then they changed the ordinance, officially
(this would have been in conjunction with the JK thing); but did not
change the signage for about two months; confusing people even more.
As it stands now, That ordinance is in place. It should be noted that
it is NOT a seasonal ordinance; however is NOT enforced, strictly or
otherwise. To the contrary, I'd chalange anyone to recall a police
officer on the boards since september; save near CH for an event.

Respectfully, I'm still not following.

In JK's post last month he said nothing about an emergency ordinance.

Maybe he could jump back on here and give us a chronology of the
ordinances.

Perhaps he can tell us what was the ordinance when you opened right
through what changes were made until the day you closed.

I think if the 24 emergency ban happened, JK would have mentioned it
in his 22400 post.

Hopefully he'll jump on and give the chronology.

You're not getting this. I'm not sure they'll be any record of this
24 hour thing. There seems to be a lack of verifiable paperwork.
Maybe it exists, maybe it doesn't. I wouldn't be surprised if JK
knows nothing about it, hence my accusation that it was JB. I only
know what I was told by representatives of the city, who also
happened to be the very people enforcing.

it is NOT a seasonal ordinance; however is NOT enforced, strictly
 or
otherwise. To the contrary, I'd chalange anyone to recall a
police
officer on the boards since september; save near CH for an event.

Just speaking from the point of view of how government wroks, my

I wouldn't be surprised if JK
knows nothing about it, hence my accusation that it was JB.

With all respect, that sounds like a leap. JK knows nothing
therefore JB did something? You have to admit that's a little thin.

I only
know what I was told by representatives of the city, who also
happened to be the very people enforcing.

Ok. I accept what you say there. But that sounds like a police
officer was your problem.

I think you did. He came on this board in post 22400 and said he

Put yourself in an observers postion here. JK says he insisted on
strict enforcement, and you still blame JB.

Step outside yourself and read that. Doesn't it seem a bit strange?

Robert I'm having a polite exchange with you and trying to give some
attention to an issue I know is important to you.

You throw in with that guy and you'll lose me here.

There's nothing for me in this bicycle discussion. I'm trying to
indulge you and care about an issue you care about.

I don't need any extra abuse from that guy.

You say it's polite, but remind me that I lack the integrity to tell
the truth. I don't have anything in writing, so it's not true? Maybe
the new cops in town just decided to give me a hard time? Since I
didn't go to a counsel meeting to verify what the cops told me was in
fact the new law?
