[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Labels change during daily use

2010-05-27 Thread Jens Strandberg
Running Ax3 SP4 KR3

I have a very annoying - and recurring - problem. We are running an Ax
environment where the default language is Danish (da). If we print out
external stuff like purchase orders, order confirmations etc. to foreign
vendors/customers, the language selected for those vendors/customers are of
course used, so that English vendors receive printouts with en-gb as
language, German customers receive printouts with de as language etc.

This is normal Ax behaviour. However, sometimes - 2-3 times a week - all
printouts are in Danish - no matter what language the purchase orders, order
confirmations etc. are setup with. And of course - this does not look
good... :-(

The only solution is to close down all 3 Ax object servers and restart
them again. Then it works - for a while...

I am a little curious as to what causes this strange behaviour. I was
wondering if anyone else has encountered this?

Best Regards,

/Jens

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Labels change during daily use

2010-05-27 Thread Jens Strandberg
Thanks Kim,

Too bad about the not supported part ...

I have a feeling that the error was introduced 6 months ago where we
introduced a new partner module - and thereby new labels. Of course - I
cannot verify this, since we use the module on a daily basis.

Could you shed some light on the root cause in AX 4.0 - assuming that it
is/was the same cause in AX 3.0?

Thanks.

Hi Jens

We have seen this before and we first found the root cause in the kernel in
AX 4.0 SP1 X (can´t remember the exact build). For AX 3.0 there is no
solution, since it is not supported anymore.

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Label index problem

2009-11-16 Thread Jens Strandberg
I have recently experienced situations where labels are not getting
translated on reports for other languages (en-gb, en-us, de etc.). Instead,
the labels are displayed using the default language; in this case da.

During the last week or so we have experienced this problem, where reports
all of a sudden display incorrectly - although they have worked properly
during, let's say, several hours during the day.

The solution - however not that great - has been to shut down all AOS
instances, delete the .ali files and restart AOS. Actually, I would normally
also delete the .aoi and the .udb files, before I would start the
application in 2-tier mode, thus creating a fresh .aoi file. After that, AOS
start.

Any input, solutions, causes to this?

Hi,

We are facing a peculiar issue as Objects are not refreshed in Production
server.

Request your inputs on the issue below:

Environment: AX 4.0 SP1

Issue: Refreshing of objects in Ax.

After importing the objects into production environment in traditional way

which involved disconnect all the users from the server, import the
objects, restart the AOS, compile whole application.

But we are facing refresh issues with some of the users' environments. To
eradicate this we deleted the 'usage data' and restart the services. Even
after this effort, still we are facing the problem.

Your suggestions in this regards are highly appreciated.

Dears,

I've got this strange error while creating a new item

The inventory unit for item cannot be changed because transactions
exist. If the transactions cannot be deleted you will need to use a new item
number with a new inventory unit.

I got the error when I tried to change the default Inventory unit . The item

Impossible to have an exist transactions for unsaved item.

Anybody has any idea for this strange behavior ??

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Delete dimension information in transactions

2009-04-24 Thread Jens Strandberg
I need to delete all current dimensions and also clear all dimension info in
related tables, eg. LedgerTrans, CustTrans, VendTrans etc.

In standard Ax this can probably not be done due to restrictions in the
DeleteActions of the Dimension table, closed fiscal years etc., but I really
need to get rid of all dimensions due to a new setup.

Any pointers as to how to achieve this ?

Should I,

a) create a Class that would merge existing dimensions into a dummy
dimension, eg. a blank dimension ID ?

b) create a Job that would run through related tables and clear the
dimension fields - using doUpdate ?

c) do nothing in Ax, but instead do the cleaning up directly in the SQL
database ?

d) do something completely different ?

e) forget about it - it cannot be done ... ?

Thanks in advance ...

We actually use Item+Work Center and has done so all the time. The problem
is that this is the only works order that actually generates this error -
even though the item number in question has been costed on 2 previous works

By comparing the 3 works orders I can see no differences, that could explain
this behaviour, so I am quite spooked here ... :-/

It seems that at some point the ledger account numbers get lost somewhere
prior to the actually financial posting - but I can't locate where/how ?

Jens,

I ran into this problem before also. It is probably due to a change in the
Production parameter 'Ledger posting' field being set to 'Item+Work Center,
which would require you to have the ledger account numbers at that level.
This is the default setup, as the individual production order can be
overridden to this setting also.

Hope this helps.

If you have the list of these tables, than you can create an AX export

only, if your AX30 is SP6 version. But if Im not wrong, than you can only
upgrdae AX30 SP6 only to DAX2009.

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Using/copying DAT company account

2009-03-02 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello there,

Our Ax application (Ax3SP4) holds 20 different company accounts. During the
initial installation the data for the first company was placed in DAT, while
all subsequent companies were placed in separate accounts, eg. ABC, DEF etc.

Now, I would like to copy DAT onto another company account, let's say XYZ.
This can - as you know - be achieved using default Ax functionality. After
this I would do a DatabaseTransDelete in DAT followed by some home-made
utility that would delete master information like items etc.

Afterwards, all users should have their profile point to account XYZ
instead, and we should be home free... at least in theory.

But - I was wondering if any of you guys could see any challenges in this
approach, since the DAT company account is also used to hold other, non
per-user tables and features like users, access etc.

Any pointers or experience shared will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

2009-02-10 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello there,

You might want to try this:

Once you have loaded the Import Journal, you could do a Function/Copy of
that journal. In this way, the nescessary records in various tables are
created automatically, and afterwards you should be able to post the
journal.

I have done so many times during many implementations - and it works just
fine.

Hope this helps.

Hi Anil,

Thanks for your answer.

I am using Ax 2009.

I tried to make the std import from excel sheet to the movement journal, but
I believe that there are more than one table to import to (e.g.
InventJournalTrans InventTrans)

Actually, I don't know the exact tables to import to and if there is a
special values for some fields in those tables.

So, if you have succeeded in this before, I will appreciate your help.

Hi Abdullah,

Use std Axapta excel import functionality. First export the excel
template for movement journal table. Fill it up and then import it to
AX.

BTW which version of AX you are using?

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Data Upgrade problem (Ax3SP4 -- Ax2009)

2009-02-04 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello there,

I am doing a db-upgrade from Ax3SP4 to Ax2009 and I have encountered what
you might call a show-stopper ...

In the upgrade list, when Postsynchronization starts, Ax immediately halts
with this error:

Cannot create a record in Release Update Scripts (ReleaseUpdateScripts).
Class ID: 18185, updateEmplTable. The record already exists.

If I check the tables ReleaseUpdate* directly in the DB (SQL 2005), these
tables are empty.

I guess that the error message is slightly wrong; I suspect other issues to
be the cause.

Anyone with experience with this - and hopefully either an explanation or a
work around ?

Thanks.

2009-02-04 Thread Jens Strandberg
Thanks MaryAnn,

Very interesting points.

The database that we are upgrading contains something like 20 company
accounts; most of them essential and some of them copies.

So you are basically saying that if we have the same employee number in 2
different company accounts we might end up with this problem ?

What if you go for not using the global address book ? If I read through the
documentation, it is stated that you can use the global address book; not
that you must ... ?

Do you have any thoughts about that ?

Thanks.

Ax2009)

ReleaseUpdate is not a table but a script that tries to run. AX2009
sometimes makes new unique indexes. If the data being updated violates
the index, then the scripts will not run.

If you open the EmplTable form definition in the AOT and notice the
tables that are joined. Then look at these table definitions in the
AOT to see what unique indexes are defined in AX 2009. Then check
uniqueness of the index in the tables in SQL Server. You may need to
remove duplicates for the upgrade.

For example, in AX 2009, there is a global address book that is cross
company. If there is a company copy in the database that you are
upgrading, then the employee table in AX 3 would have duplicate
entries. The global address book may be unable to add the duplicate
entries.

When I did an upgrade, I did the data upgrade on a single company. I
made a backup and deleted the non-essential companies and I was able
to avoid this problem. If all companies are essential, and employees
are duplicated across companies, you may need to get help from
Microsoft regarding how to handle the duplicate entries.

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Oracle-specific code, change to SQL syntax ?

2009-01-21 Thread Jens Strandberg
Thanks for your input. Your solution works...

It turned out that I was actually mistaken, since my test was executed on a
pre SQL2005 ... I was not aware of that until later.

Actually, the code below works just fine with a SQL2005; the only bit that
needed changing was DataAreaId, which should be changed into upper case,
ie. DATAAREAID.

You could copy the oracle code to X++, and run as a direct SQL.
sqlStmt = Your Oracle SQL statement';
sqlStatementExecutePermission = new
SqlStatementExecutePermission(sqlStmt);
sqlStatementExecutePermission.assert();
//BP Deviation Documented
stmt.executeUpdate(sqlStmt);
CodeAccessPermission::revertAssert();

More example on Oracle direct SQL example,
class_releaseUpdateDB39_Proj.updateOnAccountPosting()
Note that the above direct SQL has to be run on server only.

Hello there,

Happy New Year !

I was wondering if there are any SQL guru's out there ... :-)

We are currently moving our Ax from Oracle to SQL2005. I have encountered a
piece of code that reads a table and generate a from-to list instead based
on intervals.

Example:

This table holds 17 records:
ITEMIDPOSITION PREFIX
POSNUMBER
 - - - --
--
VS60001558P2 P
2
VS60001558P4 P
4
VS60001558P5 P
5
VS60001558P7 P
7
VS60001558P9 P
9
VS60001558P10P
10
VS60001558P11P
11
VS60001558P14P
14
VS60001558P15P
15
VS60001558P16P
16
VS60001558P17P
17
VS60001558P18P
18
VS60001558P19P
19
VS60001558P20P
20
VS60001558P21P
21
VS60001558P22P
22
VS60001558P23P
23

After manipulating through code, this is output (stored in a temp table):
PREFIX MIN(X.POSNUMBER) MAX(X.POSNUMBER)
--
P 22
P 45
P 77
P 9 11
P14 23

As you can see, the intervals are grouped. The Prefix can be any
character.

The code that actually does the job is Oracle-specific and does not work on
SQL2005.

This is the procedure:

public void FillTmpBOMPosition( )
{
ResultSet   SQLAnswer;
Notes   sqlStr;
Connection  con = new Connection() ;
Statement   sqlStmt = Con.createStatement ();
TmpBOMPosition _TmpBOMPosition;// This is a temp table

   ORDER BY x.prefix\n+
   ,min(x.posnumber) );

SQLAnswer = sqlStmt.executeQuer y(sqlStr) ;

{
_TmpBOMPosition. Userid = Curuserid();

}

When run, SQL complains about the ROW_NUMBER part that is not recognized;
probably other things as well.

My question is: Any pointers as to 1) change the above code in order to run
on SQL or 2) change the above code to do the job entirely in X++ ?

Thanks in advance.

Well, you might call this a bug.

To the best of my knowledge, import fra Excel does not trigger any business

With respect to importing sales orders: We import as Journals -
afterwards, when you post the sales journal, the business logic will be
applied.

A little ugly - but it works ... :-)

I'm looking for the form where you can setup the criteria that decide
how a customer document (Picking list, packing slip, invoice) is
grouped.

By this I mean : If I select 100 orders and try to validate the
PackingSlip, Axapta will group them by customer id, shipping address,
etc... I'm looking for the form where I setup those condition
(customer id, shipping address). If I remember correctly, the form has
a tab for each document and in each of them you find 2 list with arrow
between them so you can activate a condition or not.

I can never manage to remember where this is hidden. If anyone can
tell me where I could find that form, that'd be nice.

Thanks!

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Excel templates for Uploading opening Stock

2007-10-07 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello there,

There is another trick that you could use ... :-)

Do not load records directly into InventTrans, since this table is one of
the key tables in Ax. Instead, during quite a lot of implementations, I
simply load data into InventJournalTable and InventJournalTrans.

Once the data is in the journal, you simply use the built-in function to
copy a journal. Once the journal is copied, the corresponding journal lines
are now updated in such a way that you will be able to book the journal
without problems.

I use the same approach when importing sales orders/lines and purchase
orders/lines. I simply import them as journals, after which I let Ax handle
the rest when changing order type from Journal to Sales Order / Purchase
Order.

Hope this helps.

Hi Ashwani,

Thanks for such a detailed information which would be useful to all
our fellow implementors.

I could successfully upload the opening stock using
InventJournalTable, InventJournalTrans and InventTrans. I have not
included InventDim as the DimGroupIds of all the items already exists
in InventDim table.

I have to include InventTrans as I was getting an error that there
should be transaction with status Ordered. I have included
InventTrans table with status Ordered of all the items.

I have uploaded and then posted the Movement Journal. Now when you see
the on-hand inventory you will see the items in Ordered as negative
witht he quantity uploaded. Then I went to InventSum table and changed
all those negative entries to 0.

I have tested master scheduling and other functionalities. Its working
fine.

Please reply whether this is ok. As you have used a word
malfunctioing I am worried.

Awaiting your reply.

At the time of creation of record in journal lines (Inventory
journal Trans), system automatically search for inventdim and if not
found, then create a new record in InventDim, else allocate the
available one on the InventJournalTrans. After the creation of new
record in InventDim, same numbr is allcoated to respective transaction
based on Dimension combination.

Different inventJournalTrans lines can have same inventDim id.

So in addition to above two tables, you have to import another third
table InventDim.

Now the question arises, how to pick / define the correct InventDim
in the import file in Table InventJournalTrans, as this table does not
have Dimensions (config, color, size, warehouse, location etc...)

Because system allocates, this on the basis of unique combination of
dimension, so in excel using concatenate formula, create a new column
and put formula in that to get value. Now there must be unique values
in this field (refer above bold sentence).

Filter out the duplicates, and now you should have single record of
each type.
Take the current data of InventDim table to Excel by copy paste. Do
same concatenate column in this worksheet also in excel.

now using the Vlookup formula of Excel, check in earlier inventdim,
what is the inventdim of those records. you will find some records /
rows in excel where you will not get any inventdim.

Take those records in new worksheet for import in inventdim. When
you import these records, system will create the inventdim id for
those records. Put these new alocated number along with the previous
that you find in the InventJournalTrans. Now you can import
InventJournal and InventJournalTran Tables.

After importing them, ensure that all lines will be having inventdim
id and cross validate for the dimensions (config, color, size,
warehouse, location etc...) in them for 5 - 10 records. If found
satisfactory, then you just have to click the Post button.
System will post the same in inventTrans and inventsum, to update
the inventory.

We should not have to import the records in InventTrans / InventSum,
because these tables are the heart of Dynamics Ax, which may later on
result in malfunctioning of the system.

This whole lenghty explaination appears to be difficult /
complicated, but once you do it, you will find it as the easiest and
quicker exercise.

In case you need any further assitance, do write to me.

 Ashwani Jain

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Help on Classes

2007-04-24 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello there,

Running Ax 3.0 SP4.

I was just wondering...

Let's say that I have created a class, MyClass, that does not extend from
any of the available system classes.

This simple class opens a dialog box.

From within that dialog box: How would I be able to use the Help function to
display help for this class ? If I hit the F1 key, Ax will attempt to
display help for Object, not for MyClass.

I am able to display the help from the menu item - but not from within the
class. Is there a method that I need to add to MyClass in order to tell Ax
what to display ?

Thanks in advance.

/Jens

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Security key on production main menu

2007-04-06 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello James,

I am sure that this is a (known ?) bug.

We are using Ax3 SP4, and we are also experiencing issues with the
Production menu.

Let's say that you are trying to grant access rights to a given menu item,
eg. Route. If you select that one, give full access and switch to Main
Menu presentation, you cannot see that the permission is picked up.

I have reported this one to MS, but they gave us a work-around : Give full
access to all items inside Production - and remove the permissions that you
don't need afterwards ...

- and they were not kidding :-)

Subject: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Security key on production main menu

Hi everyone,

I am not sure if there have been posts already on this (or even MS issued
hotfix) but I have a problem that in the security permissions screen I
cannot get anything in the Production branch to get expanded when I assign a
right to an object.

Example:

Assign full control to production order form, usually the form should then
become expandable so I can drill down and set which buttons etc.

I checked and it seems the Prod main menu has a security key assigned to it
called 'Prod'. If I remove this security key then it is all okay and the
objects are able to be expanded.

I thought I recall MS issued a hotfix for this but I am using Ax3.0 Sp5 and
so would have thought it would be in this.???

Is it correct to remove this security key?

Any pointers or help would be much appreciated

Thanks

James

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Huge CostAmountValue ...

2007-03-09 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello there,

Running Ax3SP4. I am experiencing a very strange problem here.

I have a record in InventTrans, where the CostAmountPhysical is - and I am
not kidding - -2903766228490648.00 ...

The quantity is -1, i.e. StatusIssue is Deducted and is with reference to
a production line. Now, needless to say this value cannot be processed by
our Oracle DB, and therefore I need to get rid of it somehow.

But, am I correct in thinking that I cannot make a transaction adjustment
with the tools available, since this is an issue, not a receipt ?

I see the same value in the corresponding records in the tables InventSum
and InventSum*TTS, and I suspect that I need to clear these values also. Any
hints - as I expect to have to fix this by code ... ?

Thanks in advance ...

Best regards,

I have this experience once. I assume that the you allow Negative Physical
Inventory on your Inventory Model Group and check field include physical
value and you do inventory closing. Before you do inventory closing :
1. you should close any production transaction.
2. Do not allow negative physical inventory
3. Invoicing Purchase and Sales Order that have status Received and

4. Do not check include physical value

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Huge CostAmountValue...

2007-03-09 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hi there,

Thanks. Well, actually we cannot run a Recalc, since the value is too high
for the DB to swallow.

So currently I think that I will just clear the value in InventTrans and
InventSum. However, as a result of failed Recalc's we also have transactions
in the table InventSettlement, which our Oracle DB does not like either.

It seems that Ax is really trying to fix things during Recalc, but the
values are just too high to handle.

We have only 8-9 transactions for that item number, so it is rather easy to
overview.

Any pointers as to clearing the large values in InventSettlement as well -
since they sum up a fine 0 anyways ... ?

/Jens

Hi Jens,

In addition to Lukas's suggestion, It would be good to run an Inventory
'Recalculation' for the Item in question.

Also make sure that you cancel/close all the
sales/purchase/production/transfer orders involving the items in question.

Hope this helps too!! :)

PS: I was introduced to this issue while supporting a client using AX3 SP3.
There were 2 hotfixes on Inventory closing / costing for SP3. You might want
to go through the explanation document for these hotfixes too!!

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Problem with ProdPickList

2007-02-15 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello there,

If I print the report ProdPickList, the field wmsLocationId gets cut off, so

It seems that I am not able to adjust the width of the wmsLocationId in the

apparently fixed to 10 characters (which should be fine, but with some
capital letters in the wmsLocationID we run out of space).

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Month display in dates

2007-01-30 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello there,

I am trying to achieve, that a certain date should be displayed in a way
that it can't be mis-interpreted.

Example from the report PurchPurchOrder :

The delivery date 12-05-2007 could be perceived as May 12 by some, December
05 by others. In order to fix this, I changed the DateMonth property to
always display the month with the first 3 characters.

This works just fine; with the example above 12-May-2007 is printed.

However, Axapta does not consider the language setup for the purchase order.
If we select Danish, it should read 12-Maj-2007. German would probably read
12-Mai-2007.

But it always prints the month in the same language as the system setup. Is
this a bug - and if so: Any workarounds ?

Thanks in advance.

Jens

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Quarantine Order Splitting

2006-04-26 Thread Jens Strandberg

Tany, James,

Are you absolutely sure, that marking is not attached ?

Please check from sales line / purch line form , button Stock/Invent, menu
item Marking...

Our users in one of our companies are actually using marking without even
knowing. This happens, if you create a sales order line and from that line
selects Functions + Create purchase order. Then the two lines are marked
automatically by Axapta.

We have seen this costing issue on a regular basis, but it all comes down to
marking... Once marking(s) are removed, costing works fine.

problems...one customer I had was sure they were not using marking but when
we looked in there was marking everywhere (it came from master planning
parameter settings...)

Thanks

Hi James,

No we don't use marking.

Split qty during On hand revaluation sounds make sense, but I'm not sure
this is the problem. I will check in detail.

Check do you have any marking on the items that came back to MH from the
Quarantine warehosue. Check on the inventrans that are split, genreral
tabpage field ReferenceLot has a value?.

Other times inventtrans can be split is during onhand revaluation. If you
have a trans that is 100 but only 80 are settled the onhand revalaution will
force the splitting of the inventtrans into closed and open qty
transactions.

Apart from that I am not sure but would be interested to know of any other
reasons.. Thanks James

Is there any Setup that I missed?
How to prevent this happening?
Why Axapta splitting the Qty? What is the reason?

Thanks,

Hi Jens,

Yes marking can be a real pain in the costing...I recall long ago I did a
very quick modificaiton in a class that basically just ignored all marking
during recalc or closing (this saves you having to check and remove
etc)...unfortunately I cannot remember where or what it was I did :(

Thanks

Tany, James,

Are you absolutely sure, that marking is not attached ?

Please check from sales line / purch line form , button Stock/Invent, menu
item Marking...

Our users in one of our companies are actually using marking without even
knowing. This happens, if you create a sales order line and from that line
selects Functions + Create purchase order. Then the two lines are marked
automatically by Axapta.

We have seen this costing issue on a regular basis, but it all comes down to
marking... Once marking(s) are removed, costing works fine.

Running Ax 3.0 SP4

Best Regards,
Jens

hi Jens

Yes, I am aware that he was asking about planned orders.

however, I wanted to explain the concept without the need to do a lot of
datasetup.*s*

in your example 2 things are missing

1. Sales order for 150
2. he will see the action messages only if the planned order is approved and
he runs master plan or
set reqCache to maximum, run explosion from sales line, check net
requirements for the dynamic plan or...

see, it is getting complicated already. From his question there is a chance
that this user is new to master planning.

I actually typed the entire reply and then decided to give him simple steps
to reproduce the scenario*s*

PLANNED order?

Philip,

Well, if you have setup your coverage group to handle action messages, you
could experience this.

This will happen if - after the coverage plan has been run - you have
planned orders for a given item, while at the same time have an existing
purchase order for the same item, that Axapta will suggest to increase in
qty.

Let's say that you have a purchase order of 100 pcs, while you have a
planned purchase order of 50 pcs. If setup properly, Axapta will suggest
that you cancel the planned purchase and increase the the current purchase
order by 50, so that you end up with 150 pcs.

You will then see an action to increase the current PO, while cancelling the
planned order.

Just remember, that you will also have to consider positive and negative
days.

Hope this helps.

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Re: import data to Counting journal

2006-04-04 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello,

Well, you could tweak the logic a bit.

When we implemented Axapta in one of our companies we had to import opening
balances per item. This was done through the standard import functionality
of Axapta. Now, in order to get things right we simply copied the imported
journal to another journal - thereby allowing Axapta to take care of the
InventTrans logic. After that we deleted the imported journal, posted the
copied journal and we were just fine.

This is probably not documented - but it works every time. We did this for
20-25 journals with 1.000 lines in each.

Hope this helps.

/Jens

 Hi

I have imported records to counting journal (inventJournalTrans)
by
use of Axapta standard import functionality. The imported records
 looks good.
But each record in the counting journal should create a invent
movement - create an inventTrans record. That doesn't happen!

I have looked at the Counting form and tried to execute the code
on
the modified method on item id and Counted field plus the table
update method - these methods usually creates an update invent
 movement.
 Nothing happens!

Do you have any idea of how I can update this programmically, I
would appriciate a suggestion - I have approx. 30.000 records and
I
don't look forward to enter them manually into the journal :-)

 Regards

 Irving

Re: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Item Master in Virtual

2006-03-25 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello there,

Actually, you can have min order qty be company wise, but that is due to
the fact that this information, which is displayed in a separate tab i
your form, is actually coming from the table InventTableModule, not
InventTable.

The ABC classfication is as far as I remember stored in InventTable, so
you cannot have this table shared and company wise at the same time.

Using virtual companies is a challenge... :-)

/Jens
 Hi,
We have a scenerio where we have setup the various branches as
companies in Axapta. We have the Item Master in the Virtual area.
However, we would like to have certain info, like ABC classification,
Min order qty etc. company wise.
 Any suggestions for this ???

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if there are 2 identical Zip Codes then this

super(_selectString);

For some reason does not set the City, States, etc. based on the ZipCode

more than one, then the fields are not filled in. I have ran through
this, and the initFromZipCode() method on the Address Map.

Well it would be as is:

12345 - Des Moines - County= SomePlace
12345 - Des Moines - County= SomePlace2

So in the U.S. ZipCodes span multiple Counties, etc. which would cause
12345 to exists twice. This messes up the Address Map, initFromZipCode
that sets this data based on selection made.

But you are able to create a report, Date items in Stock, Reports,

What is actually this expired date means to the system?
Example does it prevent inventory transactions etc?

Invoiced. We have received a qty of X, and invoiced the same qty.

However, if you go to Stock / Transactions you will notice that two of the
transactions are marked as Receipt = Received and Issue = Deducted. In
other words, these lines have no financial date...

So: I have an invoiced purchase order, where some of the underlying
purchase lines are not financially updated.

1. How can this happen ?
2. How can I financially update the two lines, that are still only
physically updated ?

I have tried to receive an additional qty of 1, but this will not trigger
any changes to the purchase lines in question.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,
Jens

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Counting journal bug ?

2006-01-13 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello,

Thanks for your feedback.

Yes, you are making sense. However, since the report is explicitly called
On-hand, I would have expected to display those lines only.

I understand your point, but this should be a separate menu item, I would
prefer.

Hi there

As far as I know, when you create the lines in the journal, it create lines
for items which have had transactions against them, it will not create lines
that have on-hand quantities only. I don't believe this is a bug...

Think of this situation, item A and Item B, both have transactions against
them. According to Axapta there is nothing on hand for A, and 5 for B.
However, there is some A in on-hand in the real warehouse (i.e. the original
stock count was incorrect or the wrong batch number was sold). If the
journal does not contain item A, then the user will not count item A, and
then you would loose control of item A i.e. theft

I hope I am making sense...

Good luck

Hi Jens,

Can you check on the counting group (and the counting code in the counting
group) attached to the item in the item master file? If i not not mistaken
if you leave the counting group blank for the item then the quantity with
zero stock on hand will be included in the counting journal.

In my case, 7.147 journal lines are produced, but only 527 lines are with a

In the past, I have also produced counting journals based on warehouse and

Has this been reported as a bug, is there a work-around or am I just missing

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Users online - Type field ?

2006-01-13 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello there,

I was wondering what the Type field in the form Users online is actually
displaying.

All our users are running Thin on Citrix, but some displayed connections
are of type Thin, some of type NotAOS. We have NO COM connections.

The strange thing is, that we have two Axapta instances running on one
single machine. One is displayed as Thin, the other one as NotAOS.

Running Axapta 3.0 SP3.

Any input is highly appreciated.

thin are only the users on the same AOS as your current client connection

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Remove markings in X++

2006-01-09 Thread Jens Strandberg
åØåHello there,

I need to go through transactions on certain items in order to remove any
markings between production lines and purchase orders.

I would need to look for records in table InventTrans with Reference
Production line and Issue Reserved ordered and remove the marking, i.e.
using the same functionality as in Transactions on item + Stock + Marking.

How can I remove a marking in X++ ?

Any hints, references, examples and other input will be greatly appreciated.

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Importing BOM's into Axapta

2005-12-12 Thread Jens Strandberg
We have done the same thing.

You should take a look at the tables Bom, BomVersion and BomTable.

A BOM is stored in BomTable with (in most cases) a unique identifier, the
BomId. The BomId points to lines stored in table BOM. BomVersion keeps track
of which Bom's (=BomTable) that can be used by which owners.

Has anyone created a process flow for importing BOM's into Axapta? As an

We've got all the BOM's from the old system, just need to know which tables

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Persmissions in Axapta, bug ?

2005-11-18 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello there,

I have stumbled into a possible bug, when I am assigning user group
permissions within a specific area.

We have been able to reproduce the error in all our 3 Axapta environments,
and it could be interesting to see, if someone can do the same. We are
running Axapta 3.0 SP3.

1. Create a new user
2. Create a new user group
3. Give the user group permission to something in the production menu,
e.g. Route.
4. Log on as the new user

If I am correct in my assumption, the user cannot access anything; no menu
is opened. Axapta cannot - to the best of my knowledge - see, that certain
permissions in the production module have been granted.

The supposed bug may be further visualized, if you view the security tree
based on Main menu. Here you will, once you have granted permissions i
for example Sales Ledger or Purchase Ledger, experience that the menu
changes to bold. If you choose something within the Production menu, the
menu will not change appearance.

Can anyone of you reproduce this ?

Any feedback will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance !

/Jens

I grid concerned was called Grid, and the autodeclare property was set to
Yes.

I mean after the super() call.

The code I used was

public int active()
{
int ret;

ret = super();

grid.update();

return ret;
}

Hope this clears up the issue.

Thanks Barry,

Do you mean after return ret;

What did you declare in order to use Grid.update() ?

Axapta gives me errors, when I enter this.

/Jens

On the Active method of the data source for the grid, add the line

 Grid.update();

In my test form, I placed the above line after the super call.

 åØåHello there,

Normally, when you skip through a grid, the current line will be marked
 with
 a .

In one particular grid, I am using different colours to highlight
 different
lines according to various values, and in order to be able to see all
 lines
with the correct colour, I have set the grid property HighlightActive to
 No.

The colour coding works just fine.

Now, this has the side effect, that the current line is marked just fine
with a - but any other line that you have made active earlier will also
 be
 marked with a .

I have tried setting HighlightActive to No in other grids, that I have
 not
touched, and the behaviour is the same.

Is this a bug, is there any solution - or is it just by design ?

 Thanks in advance !

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Form, stay at same position after research()

2005-11-03 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello there,

In the PurchTable form, let's say that the cursor is positioned at
purchase line 3. I then click a button that will launch a method that will
modify information in the current line. In the method, research() is also
called.

The purchase line will update just fine, but research() will move the
cursor to purchase line 1. How do I keep the focus on line 3 ?

Using reread() will not display changes immediately.

Thanks in advance!

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Picking list journals for several productions

2005-10-12 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello there,

I was wondering if Axapta has an option to register picking list consumption
across work orders ?

Currently, as I see it, you must use one journal per works order, i.e. you
lookup the production, create a pick list journal, goto Lines and add the
item. This must be performed for every production.

I am looking for an option to enter all information in one form - with
production info on each line, after which Axapta would generate pick list
journals for each production.

Is this an option already (can't find it, though) ?

Best Regards,
Jens

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Drop down list in dialogs

2005-10-12 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello there,

I need some basic X++ input here... :-)

I have created a dialog in which you can select a given vendor.

1. How do I limit the number of vendors to those that meet a certain
criteria, let's say those in a particular vendor group ?
2. How do I check that a manually entered account number is actually valid ?

Thanks in advance.

Jens

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] WinAPI - wait for completion

2005-10-10 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello there,

I am looking for a few pointers.

From Axapta (AX30SP3) I browse through certain vendors. For each vendor, I
need to generate an Excel sheet.

I do this by WinAPI::shellExecute(_ExcelFileToRun)

where the Excel file is a valid file with macros that will eventually
generate another spreadsheet and send this to the vendor.

Now, how do I make Axapta wait, so that it will not go to the next vendor,
before the first one is completed (i.e. Excel sheet has to be done and
sent).

I have been looking for WinAPI::waitForSingleObject

but I cannot make it do what I have expected it to do - or I just don't
understand ... :-)

Any hints would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks.

/Jens

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Add same information in 2 different company accounts

2005-10-04 Thread Jens Strandberg

Thanks
for your input.

We are
actually using virtual companies a lot.

However, currently we do not share InventTable, and we might want to do
that. I know that a lot of auxillary tables should be shared as well, but the
specific issue is that if you share InventTable between company A and B and add
a new item in company A, this will only populate InventTableModule in company A,
not in company B.

We
need to keep InventTableModule "local" due to prices, since one company is
located in Europe (EUR) and another in Asia (THB).

So, I
am looking for a code sample to "copy" newly added tableinformation in one
company to another company.

Thanks
again.

  Hi Jens,
you can setup virtual companies to share tables between companies. But
then you should share more than inventtable and inventtablemodule (there are
some other tables that fields o inventtable refer to (itemgroup,
  itemlocation,)
If you're interested how to setup virtual companies:
  a) create the appropriate table collections in development
  b) create virtual companies (administration / setup / virtual
  companies
  c) allocate the comany accounts that are using shared data
  d) allocate the table collection (which data are shared ?)
Be aware that all the tables in the allocated table collections in th
allocated company accounts MUST be empty.

ASFAIK it shouldn't make any difference which order the fields in a where
clause are specified as the SQL query optimiser will sort it all out when it
calculates the query plan.

you saying the order of the clauses in the select

In terms of order of fields in the index I fully

i belive the fields in the index should be in proper
order.

In case (in table inventTrans) you are using the
Index StatusItemIdx then you need to include in your
select statement first statusReceipt, then
StatusIssue, then ItemId and then DateStatus. If you
dont want to use any of these in the select statement
then you can exclude it but have it in a proper order.

This is the reason we see multiple Indexes
created on the table (take ex InventTrans). The
ItemIdx should be used when you are going to have Item
first in the index.

Take another example of SalesLine.
If you are making a search by SalesId and SalesStatus
we use SalesStatusIdx (see the method
calcCreditBalance in the salesLine table and see the
order of fields used in the statement).

Also should consider no of times the
record/combination of records are available.

If we see the find methods we usually see that
the index used is the one which is unique or least nos
of lines. This is also because there would be only
one/least record with the combination.
Ex; SalesLine table SalesLineIdx.

May be all my assumptions/findings may not be right.
but we are here to learn.

cheers,
Girish

My thinking is if date financial exists on

Part of my select originally would be (basically the

   inventTrans.dateFinancial

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Record level security and virtual tables

Hello there,

Ax 3.0 SP3

I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with combining record

Let's say that the inventtable is shared between company account A and B.
However, you will only allow company account B to see certain information in
the table, eg. the items that are marked in a certain way.

Is this possible ?

as otherwise yes there is must likely some cache and so directly into OS

I am having problems with one set of label files. In our environment
we have been adding a lot of labels over the past period, but the

Any suggestions as to what causes this - and what can be done ?

I seem to recall that accessing Axapta through a 2-tier connection
would cause the label data to be flushed. Any experience with this ?

On a similar path: I have read somewhere that deleting the *.ali file
would cause Axapta to re-index the label file, but no new *.ali file
is actually generated. Any comments ?

 Thanks in advance !

 Subject: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Label problems

 Hello there,

I am having problems with one set of label files. In our environment
we have been adding a lot of labels over the past period, but the
corresponding label files are not updated, when the AOS service is
 shut down.

 /Jens

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Label problems

2005-08-24 Thread Jens Strandberg
Thanks Søren,

Well, been there, done that ... :-)

I did exactly this yesterday (3 tier though), and still no label files
were updated.

When you say 2 tier preferred, do you mean that things should work in 3
tier as well ?

Shutdown AOS, delete *.udb from appl dir. start and exit Axapta (2 tier
preferred) - it should update the label file then.

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Max Journal lines

2005-08-18 Thread Jens Strandberg
Title: Max Journal lines

James,

I am
not able to help you with a "recommended" number of journal
lines.

However, we recently imported data into Ax3.0 SP3, and we in fact did
split up the journals in chunks of 2.000 lines. This worked just
fine.

Our
first attempt was to import 25.000+ lines, but that just took forever (=we
killed the import)

James,

How
did you import - and from what ? Did you just use *.dat / *.def files
?

If so,
you might have problems posting, since some values in the journal lines could be
"not initialised". We solved this problem by actually 1) importing from external
files, 2) copying each journal into a new one (using the Function / Copy"), 3)
posting the new one, 4) deleting the original journal. This worked just
fine...

"normally" import at least twice - and then I restart Axapta ...

If

  Hi

  all the properties correctly?

  I
think I remember seeing a posting long ago but cannot find
  it...

  It
seems I have v3.0 SP2 and some XPO imported do not have all the properties set
(such as alignment), this is of course a very serious problem if we cannot
trust an XPO is imported 'fully' and so I need to get to the bottom of
  this.

  I
know there has been alot of posting aboutimport with and without ID, is
this likely to have any effect?

  Thanks

Exactly. Just create a small job that runs through all BOM lines and lookup
each itemid. The ones, that do not exist in InventTable, will create
problems.

That's a possibility. We just converted and went live last month.

James,

I have
also only seen documentation on adding new FINANCIAL

To the
best of my knowledge you cannot add another inventory dimension without making a
lot of changes to the application. Personally, I would not do
that.

Is
there any way that you could use the config dimension or rename Size and Colour
to fit your needs ?

Thanks for your reply Jens - I think it's more like looking for hay
in a haystack, and trying each piece to see if it's what you need!

I had already set the entire Development node in the permissions
tree to No access, so that isn't it.

I also followed the advice from another reader to turn off the
configuration key Advanced Forms Customization in System
Configuration, which should prevent everybody from making changes,
but this also seems to be ignored by Axapta - this may be a bug.

Hans

We are doing something quite similar. We have created a user

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Copy BOM

2005-07-12 Thread Jens Strandberg
Hello there,

This is a question for the clever guys among us ... :-)

How/where do youI tell Axapta NOT to assign new linenumbers, when you copy
from one BOM to another ?

Example:
The From BOM contains 3 lines, numbered 5,10,15 (they are all converted /
imported from another system).

After you have done your copying, the To BOM (naturally) has 3 identical
lines, but they are now numbered 1,2,3.

The reason for my question is, that we keep additional information per BOM
line, where (BomId + ItemId + LineNum) is the key. During BOM copy, this
information is copied as well, but after copying the line numbers have
changed, so that we cannot retrieve the specific information.

Any hints ? Thanks in advance !

Best Regards,
/Jens
