BGP routes? [7:4305]
I have two 2621's, each with 64MB of memory. I am setting up a BGP multihoming config with two ISP's. Anyone know approximately how many routes I can accept with that much memory? IPS multihoming [7:4303]
Can anyone give me the steps in Multihoming with 2 ISP's. I have already obtained an ASN and both of my ISPs have agreed to announce my space as long as it is a /24 or lower. Since I registered the ASN with ARIN, my ISP has given me a different block of addresses that would satisfy the /24 requirement. Do I need to change anything now with ARIN? What else is involved here? Any tips on setting up BGP policies on my end? Re: DTE interface on Frame Relay switch [7:4256]
it can be done, i had multiple people tell me that 2 routers couldnt perform frame relay, but if you search the cisco site for back-to-back frame relay they have a configuration. i have two 2501's working fine with frame relay between s0 and s0 on both routers. the only diffence between regular config and back to back is i think keepalives are dissabled. RE: 2522 Won't Boot [7:4289]
First question is - has this router ever worked for you? Guess is that it can't find an IOS image in Flash. Change your config register to 0x2101 to see if you can boot to "router(boot)>" If so then do a show flash or show version to see if you have an image. You also want to verify that you actually have Flash Ram installed. It could be loose, dirty contacts, or missing. > -Original Message- > From: Dwayne [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Saturday, May 12, 2001 4:48 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: 2522 Won't Boot [7:4289] > > > I am getting the following message: > > "System Bootstrap, Version 11.0(10c), SOFTWARE > Copyright (c) 1986-1996 by cisco Systems > 2500 processor with 14336 Kbytes of main memory" > > I can break into rommon & change the reg values, but > come back up with the above message. > > Can anyone lend some suggestions? > > Thanks, Dwayne > FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: > http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html > Report misconduct > and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7&i=4298&t=4289 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: AGS and 2500 router [7:4269]
You may also need to pop the hood on the AGS and ensure that you move the jumpers to set it to DTE or DCE as desired. Here's a starting point: http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/core/cisagspl/agscfig/34084. htm You can also do searches for DCE DTE jumpers AGS and find more infomration about this. The AGS+ is unyielding and unforgiving about any hardware configuration errors, so I would ensure that you jumpers are set as desired. If the AGS end of the cable is is DCE, ensure you configure the serial port as DCE by moving its jumpers. Also, start low such as 64Kbps, even if it can handle higher; that way, you can get the lowest common denominator out of the way. Re: Scheduled reload [7:3869]
You know, I've known about this command for some time, and I really need to start using it. Here's an example: You're about to renumber ip links (or do other potentially dangerous things that will cut you off from remotely accessing a router), so you could set this to happen in say, 15 minutes in the future. You do you work, if everything goes as planned you cancel the reboot. If not, and you've screwed your access, you just wait 15 minutes for the reboot and get your access back (provided you didn't save the config). I've used this method the "manual" way a number of times (ie, call that site and ask them to power-cycle the device), but late night this would be useful as well when folks aren't there, or I don't feel like drivin'. Of course, check 'show clock' if you don't run ntp/sntp on the box (well, check the clock anyway to be certain what time it has, heh). -- Jason Roysdon, CCNP+Security/CCDP, MCSE, CNA, Network+, A+ List email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Homepage: http://jason.artoo.net/ wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... > If by chance you wish to cancel the reload ... will abort > the count down. > > Roger > > -Original Message- > From: Raul F. OT: Token Ring NIC (troubleshooting) [7:4290]
I'm a bit stumped. I was building an NT4 box to run CSPM on and had an open slot and no blanks to fill it, so I saw a Token Ring NIC that someone sent me and figured that'd work to plug the hole ;-p Anyway, I downloaded the software from IBM's site (much newer and more configuration options than the built-in NT4 drivers). I could have sworn I got it working that night (but it was way late, I had routing enabled on the NT4 box and a 10/100 NIC which had a default route which would have path to the 2502's), and the MAU's 3rd light was on, so I think I got it working. Anyway, I've gone round and round on the darn thing, and here is where I'm stuck presently: Adapter IBMTOK1 : Failed to open. The most common causes of a fail to open are: (a) there is a problem with the cable, (b) the MAC address, either burned-in or locally administered, conflicts with another station on the network, (c) the adapter is set to open at the incorrect media speed,(d) the adapter is the first station to open AND the adapter is set to autosense the media speed. Adapter IBMTOK1 : The adapter is no longer open on the ring. The MAU is on, I'm using a CAT5 cable I made that same night (hmm, just had a thought). OK, found the solution. ARGH! Hehehee, good troubleshooting knowledge though. Ok, perfectly good CAT5 cable, but I made it about 15 ft. long (I only need about 7 to reach to the MUA), and wound up the extra in long circles in my wire management when I finished the next day. Well, that was the problem. I pull the cable out, stretched it out long, plugged it back in, and *click*, I hear the happy sound of the mechanical relay clicking over. Yippie! This is why I like this list: it makes me think and go through stuff a second time that I might otherwise choose to skip. Hmm, perhaps I'll announce my search for a study partner next. -- Jason Roysdon, CCNP+Security/CCDP, MCSE, CNA, Network+, A+ List email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Homepage: http://jason.artoo.net/ Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7&i=4290&t=4290 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: how do I format a 2600 flash? [7:4111]
I've never had to format my flash for 2600s when I upgrade. I put it in, the router boots to rommon> mode and I either tftp it up, or like yesterday when my wireless link wasn't doing so hot (base was in someone's cubicle, I was out in the warehouse in the network closet), so I had to bump the console port to 115K and xmodem it up (10mbit file, bleh). Once the router has the image in memory (which tells you your DRAM must be larger than your image in order to upload it), it will erase the flash ("format" I guess), and then write it. I'm guessing you've got the wrong part. Hmm, I've got a ton of 8mb flash and a even some DRAM from all these 2600 upgrades I've been doing lately... I should ebay 'em. Re: DTE interface on Frame Relay switch [7:4256]
If I am using a 2522 as a frame relay switch, can its A/S serial ports be configured as DCE interfaces and be connected to other router DTE interfaces using a 60pin-60pin crossover cables? I am trying to setup a fram relay switch with more than 2 routers participate (excluding the frame relay switch router itself) so that I can create a hub router Any other suggestion for this configuration? Re: PIX and Windows 2000 [7:4163]
I've installed over 50 PIX firewalls (506-525, no 535's yet) since people started running Win2k betas and never run into compatibility issues specific to Win2k for the PIX's main job: firewalling. Regarding VPN, which the PIX does, but is not it's primary function, the Cisco VPN Client software (v3, and not the OEM'd IRE "Cisco Secure" client) is not yet supported on the PIX, but will as soon as PIX OS v6 is released. Regarding NT in general, I know the PIX Mailguard will block SMTP authentication (supported in Exchange), so you'd have to disable Mailguard if you were using it for remote POP3/SMTP clients. Of course that's not a problem if you're using VPNs. If you're looking for large VPN client rollouts, get a VPN Concentrator. If you want site to site VPN + Firewall, use the PIX (depending on bandwidth needs add a hardware accelerator). Of course, Cisco is more than happy to sell you both, which at times is the preferred solution if you have both site to site and large client installs. -- Jason Roysdon, CCNP+Security/CCDP, MCSE, CNA, Network+, A+ List email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Homepage: http://jason.artoo.net/ ""Pickard, Richard"" wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... > 5/11/20017:11am Friday > > Has anyone heard that there are compatibility problems between PIX & > Windows 2000? > I have been asked to install a PIX at a small company that is doing VPN, > e-commerce, & so forth. Re: pix overload question [7:4187]
On a PIX you have always needed two separate addresses - one for the outside interface and one for PAT. I checked the documentation for version 5.3 and unfortunately this still seems to be the case. Re: Encapsulation V-LAN [7:3798]
Carmelo, You might want to double check trunking support on that cat 4000. Some models do not support ISL and only have Dot1Q support. Regardless, it would be better to only have one trunking type on the network, if only for troubleshooting purposes. E1/PRI problem [7:4273]
Hello, I have very strange problem. Two routers (client and access-server) are connected via E1/PRI (using Siemens ISDN switch). When I simulate short disconnect (several miliseconds) in access server part and switch doesn't recognize any failure strange thing occurs. Router recognizes E1 controller down, all established channels go down and E1 controller goes up. Everything seems OK, but no traffic go throug this connection (encapsulation failed in both routers debugs). When I simulate problem in other side or ISDN switch recognizes failure, everything is OK. >From my investigating it seems that the problems is connected with Balanced module (2CE1B). Module 1FE-2CE-B/U in unbalanced mode hasn't this problem. However I haven't both unbalanced modules yet, so I can properly try it. As for the IOSes, I try a lot of version (12.0.x, 12.0.xT, 12.1.xT etc). The problem is the same. Is there any possibility, how to prolong down state of E1 controller in situation when it go down? I hope it should help to recognize failure for ISDN switch. Thank you any hint. Michal Configuration and "sh ver" of one router (access-server): gcra#sh run Building configuration... Re: AGS and 2500 router [7:4269]
I know squat about the AGS but the Line Protocol Down normally means that they're not agreeing on whether they're using HDLC, PPP, etc. The IOS of your AGS might have a different default so I would check both sides and just to be sure I'd give the command explicitly on both sides. (encap hdlc or encap ppp) and see what happens. Someone more familiar with AGS will probably chime in. AGS and 2500 router [7:4269]
Hi All I'm running to problem configuring AGS router. I'm connecting serial to serial and I'm getting Serial UP, Line Protocol Down. I have no idea what else to do with this. I tried messing with the clock rate but no luck. When I connected both 2500's serial, no problem at all. All help is appreciated. RE: DTE interface on Frame Relay switch [7:4256]
Hi Thomas, i think it is not possible what you are trying to accomplish. You need one Router with at least two serial interfaces dedicated as the frame relay switch. So you need at least 3 Routers with serial interfaces to practice frame relay. Others please correct me if there is a trick to do it with two routers. A/S modules have a speed limit in synchronous mode up to 128 K and up to 115.2 K in async mode. Not sure about crossover cable but I think it works. Re: DTE interface on Frame Relay switch [7:4256]
Absolutely. Go to www.groupstudy.com and search the archives. There's a lot of pertinent information there regarding back-to-back configurations. Generally, you'd connect the DCE side of the cable (it should be labeled) to the FrameSwitch and the DTEs to the 'spokes' > Hi All - I have two 2501 routers. RE: difference between synchronous and asynchronous serial [7:4259]
The A/S interface is essentially a synchronous interface, but can be turned into an asynchronous interface via "physical-layer async" command. So, yes you can connect the routers back-to-back. CM -Original Message- From: Thomas To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 12/05/01 06:35 Subject: difference between synchronous and asynchronous serial ports [7:4255] Hi All - I am looking for some routers to setup my CCNP lab. The Cisco 2522 seems to be a great for Frame Relay switch if I can use crossover cable with the A/S serial ports. However, I am not sure if the A/S will be acting exactly the same as the synchronous serial port?
