Although I posted this, the way to the POWER SESSIONS is:
http://www.cisco.com/networkers/nw02/presos/pws/docs/

The CCIE power session is PS-570, but it appears to be corrupt, where the
others are fine.

2002-07-03 Thread Chuck

Let's see - I said I was reading the config guide on CCO I provided the
link.. maybe that's where I got the idea.
I have also been told off line by a couple of different people now that BGP
is expected to be released later this year.

Got a question for you - are you sure that after you enter the command you
don't get an error saying "unknown protocol"

Re: How to form Etherchannel between Cisco and Summit 48 ? [7:47984]

2002-07-03 Thread Mr piyush shah

Hi all
I am trying to configure fastetherchannel using Cisco
2924 MXL switch and Extreme Networks Summit 48 Switch
. I configured fastethernet 0/1 through 0/4 using
commands
 port group 1
switchport mode trunk

Also on Summit 48 switch I am using Enable
enable sharing grouping command.
Where port no defines master port i.e 1 in my case ,
portlist defines the no of ports taking part into
etherchannel process 2-4 in this case.
The momoment I confure the last port with cisco 2924
switch wih above mentioned commands it ( Cisco switch)
switch goes to hang mode . The only way to come out of
it's mode is I have to reset cisco switch. Can
somebody help me out in doing so. Or is there anything
missing in the configuration?
Pls help me out. Thnaks in advance.

Question - Cisco beta exams results on VUE? [7:47985]

2002-07-03 Thread Eduard Moisak

Hi All!

I've got a question concerning Cisco CCNP beta-exams.
I was passing 4 betas at VUE testing center at Feb, 18 (Rouring, Switching,
Troubleshooting and Remote access). At present, there are results only of
two of them at the VUE site (and at CISCO accordingly). And status of other
two is still TAKEN. If anybody of your encountered such a problem?

Thanks in advance,
Eduard.

RE: Neighbor distribute-list command w/ Extended ACL [7:47272]

2002-07-03 Thread Charles D Hammonds

These examples are the same except for the prefix length of the permit
statement:

access-list 100 permit ip 192.108.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 0.0.0.0
access-list 100 deny ip 192.108.0.0 0.0.255.255 255.255.0.0 0.0.255.255

access-list 101 permit ip 131.108.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 0.0.0.0
access-list 101 deny ip 131.108.0.0 0.0.255.255 255.255.0.0 0.0.255.255

in each, only a single route (/16 in 1st eg and /24 in 2nd eg) is being
permitted and all other VLSM subnets under the /16 are being denied. Since
the wildcard mask bits in the second octets are set to 1, any subnet/mask
combo under the /16 will match and be denied.

I don't have any sort of training experience so perhaps someone can break it
down better???

Hello Charles,

Sorry to do this to you, but I still have one more e.g. that I'm not too
sure (I found this on CCO) :(

access-list 101 permit ip 131.108.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 0.0.0.0

In this line, I understand that since the wildcard mask for both network &
mask are 0.0.0.0, it means that it will permit only 131.108.0.0 /24

access-list 101 deny ip 131.108.0.0 0.0.255.255 255.255.0.0 0.0.255.255

And in this line which is what I'm confused abt, I thought that on network,
it will deny 131.108.0.1 to 131.108.255.254, while the prefix being deny is
between /16 - /32.

However, Cisco CCO said it will permit route 131.108.0/24 (which I
understand), ... but deny 131.108/16 and all other subents of 131.108.0.0

Thanks for your help again.

Best Regards,
Hunt Lee

There's a new edition of the Pepelnjak book advertised on the
ciscopress.com website: "MPLS and VPN Architectures, CCIP Edition".
How does it differ from the original? I hope I won't have to buy the
CCIP Edition, but if it's a significant boost in preparing for the
MPLS exam, I'll do it.

RE: Strange 6500/IPX Issue!! HELP!! [7:47951]

2002-07-03 Thread Daniel Cotts

Seems as if all the bases have been covered. Is there any difference between
the cards on 6509A and 6509B? Does the 6509 support the "set port host"
macro? I believe that it sets spanning tree portfast enabled, trunking to
off and PAgP to off. According to Cisco LAN Switching page 314 "..when you
enable PAgP (Port Aggregation Protocol) on a link where Spanning Tree is
active, Spanning Tree takes about 18 more seconds to converge" I believe
that is also true if spanning tree is set to portfast.
I'd suggest comparing the configs of the two switches line by line. How is
your VTP domain configured?

RE: multiple Individual T1 termination --urgent [7:47944]

2002-07-03 Thread Roberts, Larry

Well, I'm going to speculate for this company.

Now why do they want to stay with Cisco? Mostly support I would imagine. If
you have a completely Cisco shop, you are sometimes
Willing to put up with extra cost/less functionality to stay one vendor.
Then your employees only have 1 product to learn to configure. We don't know
the skill/staffing level of this place, but I imagine that is the main
driving point with staying Cisco

If I was doing it, I would look at an OC circuit. When your talking about
that many T's, the cost would have to be less and think of the reliability
factor. I mean your still talking a bunch of DS-3's for 188T's ( 7 if my
math is correct ).
A single OC-12 would handle this pretty easily with plenty of room to
spare...

Just my $.02 though...

Thanks

Larry

My question is - why does it have to be Cisco? If you want edge density,
Cisco doesn't have the best solution. Try a Juniper/Unisphere ERX1440.

Oh whoops - I forgot, I'm not allowed to mention the evil 'J' on this

RE: Cisco 7010 router help [7:47893]

2002-07-03 Thread Daniel Cotts

Let me start with what is documented and then ask if anyone is doing it
differently.
First off the 7010 is a five slot chassis. It originally shipped with a
route processor (RP), and a switch processor (SP). Later versions had a
silicon switch processor (SSP).
The 7000 is from the same family as the 7010. It has seven slots. Again it
used the RP and SP/SSP pair.
As previously posted, the IOS updates for the RP ended at 11.2.
When Cisco introduced the 7500 series it created an upgrade for the existing
7000/7010 boxes. That was the RSP7000 / RSP7000CI set of cards. Note that
the routing function and the switching function moved to one card. See:
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/core/cis7000/routeswi/25617r
sp.htm
Some are available. Often the RSP7000CI board, which contains all of the
environmental monitoring functions is missing. I doubt that is an issue for
lab use.
The RSP7000 runs current IOS.

The 7500 series replaced the 7010 with the 7505. The 7000 became the 7507.
IIRC The 7505 shipped with an RSP1 card, the 7507 had an RSP2.
Patrick's post sent me to CCO. The 7505 does support the RSP1, RSP2, RSP4,
and RSP8. See the following:
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/core/cis7505/rte_swit/index.

The 7000s had the CX buss, the 7500s the CY buss. Interface cards designed
for the CX buss will work in the 7500s (with some exceptions. Usually
resolved with a later version of the card.)

I have not looked at the connectors on the rear of an RSP7000 vs an RSP2 or
RSP4. My guess is that they are different because of the different busses.
Anyone know? Anyone use an RSP2 in a 7000? If so, my prayers are answered.
If not, anyone have a RSP7000 set at a reasonable price?

web one way, vpn the other [7:47997]

2002-07-03 Thread brian kastor

We have a t3 and a t1 coming into our hq. Is there a way to have internet
browsing traffic leave on the t1 and have the 700 sales people using our vpn
to come in the t3. I can get everything coming in on the t3. And I think I
could get the traffic to leave on the t1, but I am pretty sure it is going
to come back on the t3. I have never used route maps over 99, and maybe it
would be to intense to use an extended acl to look at port 80 going out...
you can see how I digree. I have looked all over cco and I can't seem to
find anything... although I love this doc:

http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/459/14.html#A14.0

Very good explanation of some bgp stuff.

Anybody done this before?? We have a /23 and we are using Broadwing for the
t3 and AT&T for the t1. I thought about using different address spaces for
the browsers and the vpn users...

Thanks,

ipguru

Teltone demonstrator settings [7:48000]

2002-07-03 Thread Peter I. Racz

Hello group,

I have a teltone demonstrator in my homelab now and I am wondering how
to setup following parameters:

Caller identification
Terminal Display Text
EKTS
Call Appearances
Key Hold
Additional Call Offering

I feel like there are too many variables: it is kind of a matrix, with 3
configurations methods: dial string, dialer map, and dialer profiles on
one side of the matrix
and 1 spid, 2 spids no spids caller id, no caller id, ekts, no ekts etc
on the other side. And we get different behaviors for each cell in the
matrix: how many B channels come up, and if they are bidirectional or
unidirectional.

Also, could someeone point to a good resource about isdn, which explains
about spids and tei etc... and the how these numbers are assigned...

Thanks,

Peter I. Racz

C2948 with ME interface [7:47998]

2002-07-03 Thread Sliver

Hi Guru,

I have this C2948 with ME (management interface) configure as say 154.1.1.1
and SC0 configure as 10.1.1.1 (private address)..

My HPOV was able to poll this switch via the ME interface (154.1.1.1). But
when the traps come from this switch, the trap source address was the SC0
address. How do I make it such that the trap source address is the ME
interface.

I know that IOS router have this statement "snmp-server trap-source
Loopback0"...Is there such similiar command in set base switch?

Thanx..
Regards,
Choy

Routers keep a Service Advertising Protocol (SAP) table. Does the 5513 show
the servers in its SAP table? What does show ipx servers display? (That's
how you look at the SAP table.)

Can you put a Sniffer on the other side of the 5513 where the servers
reside? Or is there some sort of troubleshooting that you can do on the
server to determine if the GNS really made it to the server? It sure seems
like the router is neither responding NOR forwarding the GNS to the servers!

Does the router know about the servers? (What does show ipx servers display?)

Who responds? The router or one of the servers?

Are you absolutely sure that the PC on 6509B is connected to a port in
VLAN1? Can you move it to a different port? It seems like it's on a messed
up port.

But then again, you said the Dell works on that same port.

Yes, definitely turn all this off on the port that connects the PC. They
make the port take a long time to start forwarding.

I can see why this is driving you nuts!

I think we can help more if you tell us more about the results of show
commands on the 5513 and its IPX config.

Good luck. Please keep us posted. Thanks.

RE: Strange 6500/IPX Issue!! HELP!! [7:47951]

2002-07-03 Thread Michael Williams

Priscilla,

Thanks for your input. When I do a 'show ipx servers' it indeed shows the
gamut of 1500+ IPX entries (which is normal).

As far as putting a sniffer on the "other side" of the 5513 where the
servers reside, that was also a request by the TAC engr, but unfortunately,
the 5513 *is* the other side and most of the servers connect into VLAN1 on
that switch. And, again unfortunately, we have a small number of servers
that hang off of the other 6509, so even if I sniff all of VLAN1 IPX traffic
on the 5513, there's a chance that the server that responds is hanging off
of VLAN1 on 6509A and my capture wouldn't see the response anyway (which
could be misleading to say the least).

As far as a possible bad port, we've tried many ports on every linecard and
get the same results (and even took some of those linecards and put them in
6509A and everything works fine, so we're moving away from the possibility
the linecard is the problem).

I did some more experimentation this morning. I took a 2950 switch,
configured Fas0/1 for the PC, configured Fas0/48 and uplinked that port
(using a x-over of course =) into a port on 6509B (the one that shows the
problem). I connected the PC to the 2950, booted, no Novell. I then
disconnected the uplink (Fas0/48) then threw a GBIC into the 2950 and the
6509B (since 6509A works and connects to 6509B via a GBIC, I wanted to see
if using a GBIC into the 6509B from the 2950 would make a difference over
standard FastEthernet). So I connected the fiber from the 2950 GBIC to the
6509 GBIC, rebooted the PC. nada. still nothing. I yanked that very
same GBIC from 6509B and plugged into 6509A, rebooted the PC, and BAM!
Novell!

The ONLY way I can get this PC to boot to Novell while connected to 6509B is
to connect to a hub, then connect the hub to a port on 6509B. WTF?!?!?

And yes, the Dell works everytime whether plugged directly into a FastE port
on 6509B, 6509A, a hub or switch connected to either 6509A/B.

So again, it seems everything points to the IBM but IT WORKS ON 6509A!! I'm
going to try to get some driver updates or something for the NIC on the IBM
just to see if that fixes it, but these IBM PCs are like P200 or
P2-233/266s, and running Win95 I seriously doubt there's been a driver
update for these integrated NICs for years.

Thanks again for all inputs! Keep it coming!

I figure at this point, I've gotten myself and one co-worker, a TAC engr,
many very capable people (from groupstudy) and at least 4-5 CCIEs thinking
about this problem, and we STILL can't find a solution.

The workaround for now is just simply not to connect any Novell related
PCs/servers into that 6509 while we migrate to a Win2K platform and are all
IP at that point. Geez

Mike W.

Next Wash. DC Meeting [7:48014]

2002-07-03 Thread Bruce Evry

Hello,

There will be no official July meeting (router roast) but there
will be one August 10th, Noon to 4 pm, at my house located at 1607 Thomas
Road, Fort Washington, MD 20744. Will remind everyone closer to the event
but please mark it on your calendars!

There will be a talk this Saturday afternoon on Network Security
Certifications. I'll be speaking about industry certifications for
individuals such as the CISSP, Checkpoint and various Cisco certs.
Kristin Sostrom will talk about certifying network systems as
secure for government agencies such as the Pentagon. She is an expert in
the policies, guidelines, and regulations that go into a security
certification for your network. Interesting stuff.
This will be held at CastleCon 15, a convention being held at the
Sheraton, Reston in Reston, VA. (which also includes Science Fiction,
Medieval Dancing, and everything inbetween). Con membership is $30.
For more info on CastleCon visit www.fantek.org.

Anyway, sorry about July and hope to see you all in August! If I
have a new job by then we'll grill up some steaks!

Yours Truly - Bruce Evry

The lab is using the L3 capabilities of the 3550, which saved the $$ from
having to buy 6500's according to the lab proctors. Not only that, there
will be 2 3550's in the lab pod, so you need to know trunking, etc. now.

Some good news and some bad news... [7:48026]

2002-07-03 Thread Paul Borghese

Ok I got some good new and some bad news.

The good news is yesterday I manually updated the CCIELab archives search
engine. It took all day and consumed a lot of memory and processing power
on GroupStudy. You can now search the archives up through June 2002. I
plan to update the search engine once a month until we develop a new system
(probably swish-e). I also changed the maximum search hits from 200 to 50
and set the default from 50 to 10. If the server finds more then your
maximum, it offers suggestions. I will work on the Cisco List once the
server "calms down" :-).

Now the bad news. In the process of consuming outrageous amounts of memory
and processor speed, it hosed sendmail. Because most SMTP servers will hold
messages for a few days (the default is 5 days) we should receive all
messages in the next few hours.

Take care,

Paul Borghese

RE: Specify DNS on a Router ... [7:48009]

2002-07-03 Thread Daniel Cotts

I'm assuming that your trace problem is from your router.
Standard trace would be:
router#trace aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd

Just in case it's choking on your external ip address --
Try an extended trace:

router#trace
Protocol [ip]:
Target IP address: aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd
Source address: xxx.yyy.zzz.111 (one of your internal interfaces)
Numeric display [n]:
Timeout in seconds [3]:
Probe count [3]:
Minimum Time to Live [1]:
Maximum Time to Live [30]:
Port Number [33434]:
Loose, Strict, Record, Timestamp, Verbose[none]:
Type escape sequence to abort.
Tracing the route to aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd

Re: Cable Modem DHCP problem [7:47175]

2002-07-03 Thread Don Queen

I have roadrunner cable modem service and a 2514 as my internet connection.
When I need to get another IP address I simply shut the interface down, wait
a few seconds and do the no shut. To verify that you have a new IP address
do the "show dhcp server" command, it show your IP address, the IP address
of the DHCP server and the lease time.

RE: Strange 6500/IPX Issue!! HELP!! [7:47951]

2002-07-03 Thread Peter Walker

Mike

Just a thought, but have you tried setting a gns-response-delay on your
router. From what I remember reading in my support exam study (I have NO
ipx experience), this can be used to "compensate for the slow CPU or
network adapter card of the client, which would otherwise miss a quicker
response".

It just seems from your other emails that this may match your symptoms and
perhaps the difference between connecting to switch a vs switch b is just a
tiny bit of latency that is enough to allow the old machines / cards to get
the response.

Like I said, I have no IPX experience and this is just a shot in the dark
based on something I remember reading.

Regards

Peter

Can I do this :-

I'm really puzzled what problem they are trying to solve. Certainly,
the carrier providing the local loop has these DS1's multiplexed onto
faster internal faciliies (e.g., 28 per DS-3, 84 or so on an OC-3,
168 or so on an OC-12).

I've had a situation where I had numbers approaching these, and
indeed a fair number were not conventional data but POTS,
videoconferencing, bulk crypto, etc. The answer was to put a fully
redundant Stratacom switch in front of the routers, PBX, etc., and
have (in my case) two redundant OC-3's coming into the switch.

Since there are now CBR cards for some routers, the switch might no
longer be necessary. The question still comes up is whether the 188
DS-1s truly need separate interfaces at the hub, and why.

This sort of port density is going to eat you alive if it's a real
requirement. If I had to do it, though, I'd certainly try for a
hierarchy of routers -- 7500's or better taking high speed trunks,
and connecting via Fast Ethernet to 3600's or such with lots of T1
interfaces.

Silju,

I have all of them, and I preferred them in the following order:

1. CCBootcamp
Still some typos, but a great way to work with many different
setups and configs.
2. Hello Computers
I only worked with lab 9, but it was a really good lab.
3. Boson
I liked the two lab scenarios better than the workbook, but the
workbook was still useful.
4. Solution Labs
You didn't list this option, but I found it to be a good way to
walk you through the code.
5. CCIE Practical Studies (Karl Solie)- Volume 1
I would have liked this book better if it had fewer typos. Great
concept, weak execution.
6. IP Expert
This book may be good for you, but I just didn't like the
approach. I also found too many errors for my comfort.

All in all it was not a bad test. Some of the wording seemed a bit strange
and did not seem to fit the answers so I used the "gut instinct, cover the

The course I took really helped, it gave a good solid presentation of what
to expect. Thanks Paul (instructor) for answering all my questions. Sorry I
have never seen a Boson test/study guide to compare it with. CCO has the
information that is needed to pass but you would have to really sit with the
outline to pick and choose from the information online.

I can see that over the years this will probably develop into one of those
tests you dread to take.

RE: Specify DNS on a Router ... [7:48009]

2002-07-03 Thread Daniel Cotts

If the issue is true for all routers and switches then extended trace isn't
the solution. I believe that Microsoft implements tracert differently from
the standard which Cisco uses. Next guess is that you have a firewall that
is blocking the traffic. Here's some snips from old GroupStudy posts:

"Unix and Cisco send UDP packets, but
Microsoft actually sends 3 ICMP echo requests. Using traceroute on
different platforms may yield different results. Especially when you have
firewall rulesets involved."

"Here's a description of how it works in Unix.

Traceroute sends out a UDP packet addressed to the target machine, port
33434, with a "TTL" field set to 1. The first hop accepts the packet,
decrements the "TTL" field (as required by the IP spec), and sees that
the resulting TTL is 0. It then sends an ICMP Time Exceeded message to
the original host.

This is repeated twice, and the host records the elapsed time between
sending the packet and receiving the "Time Exceeded" packet. It reports
this for each of the three packets.

Then, the host increments the port number (33434 + 1 = 33435) and the
TTL field (1 + 1 = 2), and sends another packet to the same target
machine. This time, the packet will get to the second hop before the
TTL field becomes a 0. So now the second hop will send ICMP Time
Exceeded messages to the host.

This is repeated over and over until an ICMP Port Unreachable message is
received. This is how the host knows it's reached the destination.
This is also why it uses UDP port 33434 and up, because it's pretty safe
to assume that no service will be running on any of those ports."

Congrats Dan. :)

I too found the CIT a bit difficult and I was doing nothing but support at
the time of writting the exam (nocling, backbone support). Thus, logically,
it should have been a bit easier for myself.

Now you can have a break and think about the next step. :)

Re: multiple Individual T1 termination --urgent [7:47944]

2002-07-03 Thread Brian Lodwick

I couldn't imagine someone purchasing that many seperate lines from a
carrier. If you have 188 T-1s coming into the customer premise I believe the
piece of equipment you are looking for is called a multiplexer.
If you are saying they need @ 300M bandwidth I would have to say your best
bet would be to purchase 2 OC-3 circuits. In that case I reccomend the
GSR12000 series routers. (We just built out a superhub of a huge VPN using 2
of those things to terminate the OCs and those things are working like a
champ. We are planning to upgrade to OC-12 in the near future so using
anything else was kindof out of the picture for us except for a Juniper and
who wants one of those things in their data center -just kidding) If the
12000 is way too pricey, and you would never need to go to that large of a
circuit a 7500 should serve your purpose by using ATM OC-3 cards on the
front and FastEs on the back.
Heck why don't you just go down to your local MicroCenter and pick up one
of those 12008s with a couple of GigE cards in it, and call up one of our
sales people and say you want GigE IDE to your site. We are very soon
planning to offer Ethernet to the CPE. Cool idea I think.

Starting to prepare for CCDP [7:48042]

2002-07-03 Thread Kim Graham

Over the next few months I am going to take steps towards completing my
CCDP. It looks to be the best way to gain some design
background/information that can help me on a future qwest, CCIE. It should
also help me with my present position.

Questions or thoughts that come to mind are reference materials. Currently
I have Sybex's, CCDP (2000 publication date) which I really have not browsed
through, and Top Down Design. So far I have read the Testing and parts of
the Documention chapters of Top Down Design. It is a nice book and will be
a great resource. Thanks Priscilla for taking the time to write it.

Should I venture out and get the CID Cisco Press book or will I be fine with
those 2 resources, plus practical experience and CCO?

Anyone's thoughts on it are appreciated.

IETF encapsulation [7:48044]

2002-07-03 Thread Morgan Hansen

Hi.

Mmm... Reading in Wendel Odoms 640-607 studying book here it says:

"For example, if one router is not a Cisco router and does not support
Cisco encapsulation, IETF encapsulation is required".

But, what im wondering is:

Isnt IETF the default encapsulation method for Frame Relay on Cisco
routers? Then, as im sure it is. Why would IETF be used if it wasn't a
cisco router?

Would someone like to explain it to me briefly? Its probably me just
messing things up :)

Best,
Morgan

3 T1s - 2 cisco routers - OSPF - configuration problems [7:47999]

2002-07-03 Thread James Montigny

Can anyone explain how to get cisco routers running
OSPF to load balance traffic on 3 or more T1s?

As I understand it, OSPF load-balancing handles 4-6
simultanious connections. Yet I hear rumors that
getting any more than 2 requires some creativity.
Can anyone elaborate?

by default OSPF will load balance across equal cost paths.

(unless you are trying to run it on a Lucent VPN router, in that case it
will probobaly catch on fire and burn the building down)

Yea, I didn't like this test, because I had big problems with Cisco
wording on this. Like using the wrong names for things, and using
combination of words that are not the correct description of things. Not
using the official names of troubleshooting technologies. The CIT book
terms they use, and the terms on the test are not even the same. I am
playing with words to protect myself from violating the NDA. That's just
it, it's a catch-22, we cant say what is wrong with the test exactly, so
Cisco cant fix it.

are you crazy?
Like Cisco is going to select IETF over Cisco encapsulation as the default

2 types of Frame-Relay encapsulations on a Cisco router Cisco and IETF.
Cisco is proprietary. Use IETF encapsulation if connecting to anything not

RE: multiple Individual T1 termination --urgent [7:47944]

2002-07-03 Thread Mike Bernico

I would advise your client to have the telco mux the T1s into Channelized
DS3s. If for some reason that isn't possible do it yourself with a cisco
ONS 15454 or the new 15600. Once you have Channelized ds3s your in better
shape. You may be able to get away with a 7500 series full of CT3 cards,
but more than likely you'll want to get a ESR 10,000 due to router packet
pet second performance issues. Those can do 6 CT3s per slot, so around 1000
t1s on the box and work quite well I think.

RE: OT: CCIE Lab Intelligence [7:47973]

2002-07-03 Thread Ryan Lecomte

Chuck is correct...

My 3550 came back with "Unknown routing protocol" only after I entered
"router bgp 100". If you leave off the AS number you get "incomplete command".

Switch(config)#router ?
  bgp Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)
  egp Exterior Gateway Protocol (EGP)
eigrp Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP)
igrp Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (IGRP)
  isis ISO IS-IS
  iso-igrp IGRP for OSI networks
  mobileMobile routes
  odr On Demand stub Routes
ospf Open Shortest Path First (OSPF)
  rip Routing Information Protocol (RIP)
  staticStatic routes

Let's see - I said I was reading the config guide on CCO I provided the
link.. maybe that's where I got the idea.
I have also been told off line by a couple of different people now that BGP
is expected to be released later this year.

Got a question for you - are you sure that after you enter the command you
don't get an error saying "unknown protocol"

Re: Specify DNS on a Router ... [7:48009]

2002-07-03 Thread Paul

Wow ... spot on ... I also found out that the traceroute also fails from
Unix boxes too !!! sounds like your theory is spot on We have 3 exit
points .. 2 Pix Firewalls and a Novell BorderManager ... Tomorrow I will
explicitly allow all traffic in and out from a Unix box and a Router through
a Pix to test your theory !!! but it sounds good to me ... I know that ICMP
is allowed ... and from what I can remember I think UDP may be
getting filtered

Nice one Daniel

RE: IETF encapsulation [7:48044]

2002-07-03 Thread Brian Lodwick

You know you are probobaly right. Maybe RIP only enters the best route into
the routing table? I'm not entirely sure.
I know OSPF will enter all routes into the routing table regardless, and I
know BGP will only enter the best route into the routing table. Might want
to check on Cisco's website? I don't have my lab setup with duplicate routes
using RIP, IGRP or EIGRP so I'm not entirely sure.
You know maybe if we sent these out to the entire group someone on there
could help clear this up for us?

Gotta get outta here and start my holiday.
Happy Independance Day everyone!

Can anything see the Novell Servers from the 6509A?

Where does the VLAN's come into this?
You say the 5513 has an RSM? I persume your novell servers are all in
different vlans??
Does your 6509A have full IPX Route/Sap Tables?
Does your 6509B have full IPX Route/Sap Tables?

Can you confirm IPX Routes are present on ALL switches? And therefore, SAPs?

Cheers

We use Novell 5 at work, along with 6509's in your same setup but your 5513
is our 3548, and we use Routing also but its done on the MSFC in the 6509

James,
I would have to say that depends. I don't know what you have
in
mind, so if you could provide more information as to what you're trying to
accomplish.

I'm sure any number of folks on the list would willing offer a solution to

UUNet is a Cisco shop for sure (Canada and US).

And don't confuse WCOM's data networking division with
UUNet (WCOM's subsidiary in Internetworking).

Those students might be talking about the data

Annu,

you are using _200_ to match a route coming directly from 200.
i see AS200 is adjacent.

try ^200.*

see bgp example at the end of the link:
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios122/122cgcr/ftersv_c/ftsappx/tcfaapre.htm

let us know if this helps?

RIP V1&V2 [7:48072]

2002-07-03 Thread Leo Song

Hi, there.

In case a RIP v1 speaking router (Send v1 and Receive v1 & v2)receives
RIP v2 updates, how does it process those unused fields within v1, say
subnet mask. According to Jeff Volume I, it would ignore them but my RIP
v1 router does show up the network address as well as subnet mask,
please advise.

Best Regards.
Leo

unity port question [7:48073]

2002-07-03 Thread supernet

I downloaded unity server from Cisco. I don't have a key so I installed
as demo. When tried to integrate with call manager, I created 10 ports
on call manager and TSP. But when I checked "unity status monitoring",
it said I used 2 ports and had 8 available. How do I activate those 8
ports?

Thanks.
Yoshi

2002-07-03 Thread Chuck

Most of us on this list started off knowing little or nothing. Hang in
there, pal. After a while it really does start to make sense. Nothing wrong
with asking questions. It's only wrong if you never learn anything as a
result.

Re: RIP V1&V2 [7:48072]

2002-07-03 Thread Chuck

without having had the chance to verify this for myself, I can offer that
someone who occasionally lurks on this list once told me about a good RIP
lab he designed, in which this issue is covered. His purpose in designing
this particular lab was to demonstrate exactly what you are reporting, and
to show how you can get screwed as a result.

I've been meaning to look at this for some time now. Don't know if I'll have
a chance in the near future, but if I do, I will certainly report the
result.

Cisco Router as a terminal server [7:48077]

2002-07-03 Thread Michalis Palis

Hello all

I am trying to configure a Cisco 2511 router as a
terminal server in order to connect to vi the tty
ports to the console ports of my core routers.

I followed all the steps that are described on Cisco
WEb side but whenever i do reverse telnet, I get the
message connection refused by remote host. Any
suggestion or a sample working config will be appreciated

2002-07-03 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Congratulations Dan

I felt the same very similar about the CIT ... But then I thought maybe I
just didn't pay attention in the first place :)

A question I'd like to throw out if you don't mind entertaining me is this
:)How many of you's on this list has achieved CCNP/IP/DP or CCIE written in
the last four months and how long did it take you to achieve the complete
cert or the written.

It took me about three months to get this. Of course I was sitting around
for the last year doing nothing at all. I had all these books on the shelf
including a lot of CCIE level books and I was intimidated by them. Didn't
have the courage to open one. Now I feel I can conquer the world ... When it
comes to study / learning / playing with the stuff

Well, I just passed support and completed CCNP in one not-so-swift move.
Without breaking the NDA I will say many of the questions were VERY
nondescript as to what they were asking for. I really believe I passed
because I got some lucky guesses on some of the questions. I read MANY of
the questions repeatedly without ever finding out what they meant.
