Re: Deleted PVC [7:63123]

2003-02-16 Thread Charles
status deleted usually means you've incorrectly specified your dlci on your
local router (the service provider's frame switch doesn't recognize it).
I noticed you've got dlci 401 set up on s0, should it be on another
sub-interface? s0.x?

Re: OSPF point-to-multipoint network type [7:57149]

2002-11-08 Thread Charles
hey Paul,

the 'ospf topology' is defined on the interface with the 'ip ospf network
point-to-multipoint' command

I ran a few scenarios with a frame-relay emulator and noticed that ospf was
still sending out multicasts to
224.0.0.5 - all spf rotuers & 224.0.0.6 - spf DR's & BDR's (I used an
extended access list with logging on)
when config'd as pt-to-multipt

I hope this helps,
Charles

not exactly what you want but... the 12.2.12a enterprise plus image

have you tried using cisco's feature navigator (www.cisco.com/go/fn) a

hey,

%BGP-3-NOTIFICATION: sent to neighbor x.x.x.x 2/7

BGP-3 means it's a BGP UPDATE message error
2/7 are the error subcodes (I believe!)
2- unrecognized well known attribute
7- AS Routing loop

take a closer look at your configs, etc... is it possible you've got a loop

hope this helps,

Re: MPLS Traffic Engineering - 2500 router reset [7:61947]

2003-01-27 Thread Charles
one of the things you have to do is use enable rsvp on all interfaces that
will take part in the tunnel ... rsvp is used to 'reserve bandwidth for the
tunnel' - the tunnel won't come up unless you do this

I think the command is either 'rsvp bandwidth' or 'rsvp-bandwidth'

Re: MPLS Traffic Engineering - 2500 router reset [7:61947]

2003-01-29 Thread Charles
with regards to the rsvp command, if there are any mpls routers between 'r2'
& 'r3' the interfaces that take part in the tunnel should be config'd for
rsvp - also, make sure you don't 'over book' the interface

another thing that appears to be missing from you config is the tunnel's
path - the way I understand it is; you've got to set up an explicit path &
you can either specify another explicit path to be used if the 1st one is
unavailable or you can specify that the dynamic path be used if the 1st
explicit path is unavailable (you can set up multiple 'alternate paths')

I hope that helps

post CCIE written clarification

2001-01-24 Thread Charles Henson

Got the written out of the way and am now going back to the basics to help
start preparing for the lab. One thing I cannot get clear and can't find any
good references for on CCO is the difference (if there is one) between point
to multipoint and nbma topologies. I have discussed this at length with my
peers and am still drawing a blank. If anyone can clarify this or refence a
good URL it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

switches

2001-01-27 Thread Charles Paver

Hi. I have two questions:
1. Does anyone know where on the web we can have some
free access to switches so that we may telnet into
them? FirewallKing.com has only router access as far
as I could tell.

2. At work, We are running an IBM 2210 router, with
two hubs (ethernet 10bt) and one HP switch. I wnat to
install a cisco catalyst 1900 series switch as well.
Need I run the crossover cable from switch to
switch/hub? Is there any ohte rway I can implement
it? Also, can I run stp on just the 1900 series? I
dont know that much about HP switches, and am focusing
on cisco at this time. THanks

2502 router problem

2001-01-28 Thread Charles Paver

Hi. Im practicing at home, and am encountering the
following problem:

I have one 2502 router, has 1 t.ring port and 2 serial
ports

Also, have one 2513 with 2 aui ports, 2 serial ports.

Now, Both of these guys are connected via serial port.
serial0 on the 2513 is going to serial1 on the 2502.
I can ping the 2502 FROM the 2513 successfully, but
cannot ping the 2513 FROM the 2502. Also, I made sure
that they are on the same network and using the same
subnet.
The 2502 router has the dce end of the cable, so I set
the clock rate at 64000 and the bandwidth at 64.
However, I did not do anything with the 2513!

The subnets are identical, and both start with
192.168.0. I also set the telnet password, line vty 0
4, login, password x.

And when I typed in show interface (using the console
cable) on the 2502, it says down, down. Both routers
are turned on. Im wondering if I can telnet into a
router if I have the console port plugged in via
hyperterminal simultaneous, while trying to telnet
FROM router to router?

Now, the 2502 cannot be put on the ethernet, I
understand. But should nt I be able to telnet into it
from the 2513? I can ping successfully one way! The
other way says 0 percent.

Thanks!

db9 to rj45 converter

2001-02-01 Thread Paver, Charles

Hello. I need some advice on the DB9 to rj45 coverter i just bought at
microcenter. The pins nor wires in the back are not connected, so i have no
way of knowing which pins go to which hole in the db9. Each of the holes
are labeled from 1 to 9, but none of the wires have labeling on them. Does
anyone or can anyone tell me which pins I should line up with their
respective holes? Thanks!

cant telnet into a serial port!

2001-02-02 Thread Paver, Charles

I may be missing something here, but how come i cant telnet into my serial
port's ip address? I can telent into my lan address, and my pc is using a
class c address on the same subnet as teh ethernet port, but my serial port
is a class a address. im mentioning this because my 2502 router has 2 serial
ports and one t.ring. How to get in--and not using the console port?!!

Re: why can't ping its own interface it is up ???-config attached !!

2001-02-02 Thread Charles Ryan

I believe it's because your ICMP packets are being snagged by the implicit
"deny all" at the end of your access-list. Remove the access-list from the
ethernet interface, then attempt to ping it. It will probably work. If it
does, then you know that it's indeed your access-list that is prohibiting
you from pinging the ethernet interface.

router and subnet question

2001-02-03 Thread Charles Paver

Hi. I have a 2514 router, 2 hubs, and 2 other
routers (1602 and 2502). The 2514 has 2 serial
interfaces, and 2 ethernet interfaces.

Basically, I have two questions:

1. You know how if you are not on the same subnet you
cannot even ping the router? How come you can telnet
from home into remote sites? I dont really understand
this, at all. I have 3 pcs at home (though, all
old...). The routers ip address is 192.168.0.1 on e0,
and e1 is 172.16.3.1. Shouldnt i be able to ping the
class b address from the class a address router? Or
telnet into it from a different subnet? If not, how
come on somehting like firewallking.com we can access
any router? I dont understnad that!

2. How can I simulate two networks. Such as,
assuming one router is in Chicago, and the other in
NYC. Can I do that within the vicinity of my house?
Or am i reaching? I was thinking, just assign them to
different subnets, and basically that is that. But we
have to deal iwth accesslists, protocols, and the
frame relay simulation, right?

Thanks, and Id really appreciated comments on this. A
lot of newbies are in the same boat

Hi again. I know the commands to transfer my flash to
the tftp server (as in Lammle's book) BUT it did not
work on my router. I got as far as where we ought to

Tftp Timeout."

I did install tftp on my pc, and gave it an ip
address, but never made a file to store the data.
Does anyone know where my error is?

ECP1 lab. Is it worth it?

2001-02-05 Thread Charles Henson

I've heard a lot of folks mention different prep courses for the CCIE lab
and ECP1 seems to be pretty well recommended. When I went to the site,
however, the web pages imply that this is a preparation tool for "beginning"
your CCIE lab track and isolating weaknesses to further focus on. I was
going to take this class a week or so prior to my lab (scheduled for august
and I'm not rushed to swap it up) but am not so sure now. Could someone
who's done this please reply to this post or email me directly about their
experiences with it? Thanks.

Re: ECP1 lab. Is it worth it?

2001-02-05 Thread Charles Henson

Gotcha,
IMS used to have a "prep lab" but I can't find any mention of it on
their site anymore. The global knowledge idea is to span out 3 weeks of
classes over about a 2 month window. I can't do that. I just need about a
one week "focus" class prior to the lab. I think ECP1 may be my only option.
I'm glad it's got a good rep.

E&M TYPE 5

2001-02-06 Thread Clare, Charles

I have an interesting issue with E&M type 5, 4 Wire, Immediate Start,
signalling.

NEC 7660 PABX connect 4 E&M Ports to 3662 router with NM-2V with 2 E&M
Cards.

E&M signalling not reliable.

If I replace 3662 with MC3810 with 4 E&M Interfaces all works well
If I replace 3662 with 1750-4V with 2 E&M Cards all works well
If I replace 3662 with 2621 with NM-2V with 2 E&M cards performs like 3662.

When I say not reliable router will only answer a call in E&M 50% of the
time and require E&M to be hung up for 5 Seconds before another call attempt
can be made.

Seen this type of response ?

Running 12.1(5)T

remote access?

2001-02-09 Thread Paver, Charles

Hi. I have a 1602 router, as well as a 2514 router at home. And an
external modem. I was wondering, is there any way to connect from say,
work, to home, via pcanywhere, or dial in to the router to control it?

Thanks

frame relay questions

2001-02-11 Thread charles paver

Hi. Im having some problems understanding frame relay, and would benefit
from some good tips! Below are some of the questions I have.

1.  Is there a way to allow frames enter your network from 2 routers, so you
can analyze the packets?  (This is in a back to back configuration only)

2.  The router that acts as the frame switch, must it also be the dce end
for the clock rate?

3.  Why must the dlci's match in a back toback configuration?  They
need not match when over the link?

4.  Why dont I need an ip address in a point to point connection?

Thanks a lot.  Any tips would be appreciated, and this also will help
others!

3640 Access server ISDN and PSTN Dial in

2001-02-12 Thread Clare, Charles

Hi All.

Trying to set up a 3640 for ISDN and PSTN Dial in. Have E1 and 30
Digital Modems. Have set-up a Group-Async for Modem uses and all works
fine. Question is how do I set up so ISDN callers are handled in the same
way. Does not seem to be a Group-Dialer command. Does it require me to
setup 30 Dialler interfaces ?

Thanks in advance.

frame relay question

2001-02-14 Thread charles paver

Hi.  WOuld someone please explain to me why in the WORLD do I not need
to have one router configured as a frame relay switch if I have two routers
piggybacked, and both have built in csu/dsu's?  That makes no sense to me!

If I have two routers back to back with the serial cables, fine.  I
understand that--just configure one as a switch, and it will work.  But I have
two with built in csu/dsu's and cant get up/up for the life of me...

Re: ODD isdn config

Stephen,

It looks like you are using a multi-channel T3 adapter. If you type in "show
diag 1 ", you will probably see that you are using what looks like a
possible 2-port CT3 card. The "15" designates that you are using T1 #15 (of
a possible 28) for this particular interface. I could be wrong, but this is
what it looks like to me. Let me know what you find out.

Email vrs Web Browsing

2001-02-24 Thread Charles Nunie

Hello guys,

We have this wireless internet distribution through a Cisco 3600 backbone
router to the internet.

We have set up one wireless site which can browse and send emails. The 2nd
site has the same setup, the only difference being that it has a different
network address, cannot browse. Only emails can be sent (i.e from out
Microsoft outlook) and yahoo messenger can be used to chat.

No web browsing is successful. When you try to browse, it says web site found
and waiting for reply and thats it! You can ping yahoo, netscape etc, etc with
a response, but just cannot browse.

What could be wrong

Thanx a million. There was a an interface mismatch.

Don't trust the auto settings because they usually don't work. Hard set the
interfaces at each end to 100Mb full duplex and this will eliminate the
possibility of collisions. Let me know how it works.

True, the CCIE ISP-Dial is being retired. Cisco is combining the Wan

Hi everyone,

we have implemented both a radio and a dial-up link
from a branch office to the head office of a firm.

since the branch office has no router but rather a
switch, we have set up each workstation/equipment on
the lan to see the radio as its primary gateway and
the branch dial-up access server as the secondary
   gateway.

how do we get the cisco4500 router at the head office
to accept information through the dial up when the
radio link goes down. better still how do we get the
cisco4500 to dynamically route between the two links

Re: Behavior of Cisco PAT/NAT?

2000-12-11 Thread Charles Henson

There is an argument in the firewall that permits PATting of a NAT pool. The
argument goes at the end of the nat pool statement and is "overload" IE:

ip nat inside source list access-list-number interface interface overload

This allows the firewall to PAT addresses when in runs out of "unique"
addresses in the nat pool.

Re: Passed Cisco MCNS Security Exam !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2000-12-18 Thread Charles Henson

I am a CCNP and a CCDP and I took the security exam about a year ago and
passed it too. I also thought afterwards about pursuing the voice and atm
certs but the bottom line is that once you've gotten your NP and DP, the IE
is the next big step. The "specializations" are nice but once you get your
IE they really don't have alot of weight. I'm coming up on my R & S written
this friday. The specializations may help a little but the bottom line is
you have to know everything about every subject. It's enough to drive you
nuts. I'll post my results after the exam.

ps: The only time my "specialization" has been useful is when I started to
consult. The sales reps would throw it around at a client because it gave
them the perception that I was better than the next guy at working on a pix
or something. Humbly, I'm not.

Re: CCO account

2000-12-20 Thread Charles Henson

After you have authenticated to CCO you get the home page again but your
userid is in the top right corner. While authenticated on CCO you have more
access (based on your "level") to certain things on the site. For example,
if your CCO is registered under your employer who is a var, you have more
access in the pricing pages than someone who is not authenticated. If you
are a Cisco employee (I think they all get level 7 access but I could be
wrong) you have more access to things like cisco white papers and internal
documentation. It's all about what your CCO account is based on.

Looking for some logic here......

2000-12-20 Thread Charles Henson

Is there any logic or rule of thumb that can be used to remember what is
selected by the lowest value and what is selected by the highes value?
IE.STP root bridge designation is based on the LOWEST mac. OSPF DR is
based on the highest priority. Each one has to do with it's own subject
matter I know but I can't seem to get them all separated and on the written
that could encompass several questions.

Wierd network

2000-12-23 Thread Charles Nunie

Hi everyone,

We have this network setup linking two offices. There was a link failure and
we had to replace the routers. The same settings were used but.

The server cannot ping across the network (only the immediate router
interface). All workstations can ping across and some were also working off
this same server. The server was isolated and its IP used on a laptop could go
across!!.

The server, routers and everything was working the night before the breakdown
and everything had been reset.

Its working now but, what caused it? It just came up after about 3 hours.

Regards,

Dzilo

Lesson to be learned here ((CCIE written)or any other test)

2000-12-28 Thread Charles Henson

Good afternoon all, just wanted to tell everyone a quick story that I hope
all exam takers will take heed of. I had scheduled the 350-001 R&S exam for
Friday the 22 of December (right before xmas) almost a month in advance at a
local prometric site (RTP, NC area) so that I would have plenty of time to
prepare and then (pass or fail) could take a breather during xmas and
hopefully start focusing on the lab next year. My exam was at 11:15 and I
had a 2pm flight immediately afterwards. I'm one of those folks that likes
to feel not only like he's studied and ready with the material but also
mentally prepared or focused or in the zone or whatever else you want to
call it. I got a good nights sleep the night before, slept in the next
morning and arrived at the prometric site around 9am. I figured I'd casually
go over my 800 pages of notes one last time, and slumber into the exam room
a little early if they could fit me in. Problem. Locked door. I start
knocking on the window and finally some admin chick comes up and opens the
door. She asks what I want, I explain "I have an exam at 11" to which she
replies "not today sir we're closed". CLOSED! To make a long story short the
testing center had told Sylvan Prometric they would be closed this
particular pre-xmas Friday but Prometric forgot to put it in the calendar. I
spent the next hour to hour and a half on the phone. First, Prometric
apologized and said they would gladly reschedule me for the following week.
I explained that that was not good enough as my brain would be saturated
with laced eggnog and whatever else and that the week between xmas and
newyears was just not suitable. I told them this was their mistake and they
needed to reschedule me same day at another location. After getting approval
from some manager they finally agreed to reschedule me just to tell me that
all the sites it the Raleigh, Durham area were completely booked. If this
wasn't the Friday before xmas rescheduling for a later week would be fine,
but I felt that I had spent so much time preparing that if I went on
vacation and then came back it would be the end of January before I would be
ready to take it again. I went to the prometric website and printed all the
addresses and phone numbers for all the testing centers in my area and
called one by one. I got about halfway down the list before finding someone
who said they could fit me in. The only catch was I needed to get over there
as soon as possible. I jumped in the car and raced over to the new site.
When I got there we got back on the phone with prometric and after 40
minutes of arguing with the new customer service rep finally got the exam
downloaded. I had just enough time to throw out my bubble gum before sitting
down infront of the computer. Obviously due to the NDA I can't talk about
the exam other than to say it was tough, deserves it's reputation, and
really evaluates whether you have a clear understanding of the fundamentals
or not. Anyway, I failed. Score: 67. Am I displeased at the score? Not at
all. It was my first time taking the test and I feel I gave it a fair effort
and I got a fair result. I had bridging and dlsw down pat but was week on
some other key areas. Do I blame the mess before the exam for my failure?
Not completely. It is obvious to me that I still have some skill sharpening
to do before I consider this exam again. I do wonder, however, if I hadn't
spent the morning running around in circles and on the phone with people and
had gotten a good hour or so to go over my notes and focus on those weak
areas if I might have passed it. Once again, I don't blame Sylvan prometric
for my failure completely. I just wonder if it may have been influenced by
my lack of focus in the exam room. LESSON LEARNED. Don't make assumptions
about the communication process between Sylvan Prometric and these local
testing centers. call them up and make sure the scheduling is correct. The
CCIE written is the biggest exam I've taken to date and I was very
optimistic. It's a shame that I spent the morning scrambling to make it
happen instead of sitting in a quiet room, going over my notes and "getting
in the zone". Just my two cents.

Timeouts on Ethernet and WAN interface

2001-01-03 Thread Charles Nunie

Hi,

We have this 3600 router connected to a WAN through a PRI interface an a LAN
through an ethernet interface. We have recently been experiencing timeouts on
these interfaces.

Over noght the timeouts did not appear, just this morning it has started
again.

What could be wrong?

routing table?

2001-01-10 Thread charles paver

Hi. I am having problems understanding a simple routing table. For
example, consider the following:

172.16.0.0/16 is subnetted, 2 subnets

I 172.16.8.0 (etc)

What the heck is the 172.16.0.0 mean? Is that the final destination network
where the pdu is going? And how about the 2 subnets? What does that MEAN?
I understand subnetting, like how to do it, but its a lot different when you
need to apply it! Also, I know "I" means Igrp, but how aboutg
172.16.8.0--is that the FINAL destination network? And regarding admin
distance, metric, current info, -- that is pretty straightforward. I
presume the via means, next hop? As in, next router, not next network,
right? Thanks a lot!

ccnp: does one area = 1 network?

2001-01-11 Thread Paver, Charles

Hello. I was wondering (after reading ospf) if 1 network = 1 area, or if
you can have several networks inside of one area?
And on page 177 in Ciscopress BSCN, it says the following guidelines: # of
routers in a domain/single area= minimum of 20. That is hard to understand.
Cant we have one domain with one router? Like, if we have a LAN here, with
access to the internet, isnt that one domain with one router?
Thanks!

subnetting and tcp/ip

2001-01-15 Thread Paver, Charles

Am studying tcp/ip now, and have a couple of questions (believe me, this is
the basics for you guys!) Im reading a tutorial on the web, and still am a
little confused. I need someone to go line by line with me, please! In
return, Ill give you a cookie :> Take the following:

1. I have a network, ip address 130.5.0.0 (why is it 0.0)? Do all network
#s end in 0? And for Class B to have the network address, must it be
x.x.0.0? Cant I have something like 172.5.5.0? I understand 130, for class
b, but where did they get 5 from?

2. Next I have the list of ips on my network, per pc (or device). Such as
:

130.5.32.0
130.5.64.0
130.5.160.0
130.5.224.0

So, are they on the same network or not? I know that each pc must have its
unique host--I dont want you guys to think Im that basic with this; yes Im
weak, but I do know that with class b its network.network.host.host--> So,
the host id seems to be on the same network while the host is having a
dfferent id. I just get confused when I read a class B and think, which
parameter has to be changed? The 3rd octect ONLY or the 4th as well.

tcpip question

2001-01-16 Thread Paver, Charles

Again, the tcp/ip question
 209.221.163.0/27 is subnetted, 1 subnets
D 209.221.163.0 [90/2221056] via 63.249.3.9, 13:31:00, Ethernet0

In this example I took off a router: the 209.221.163.0 is a network ip,
right? But what network, as in, where is the network--the router I am
accessing? I understand the 63.x.xx. is the next hop router, but is that
the origination point, of the destination point (the 209.x.x.x?) Thanks

eigrp study question

2001-01-16 Thread Paver, Charles

Hi. I have a couple of questions regarding eigrp in the bscn book.

1. how do you look at details of a hello packet? Is a hello packet that
ospf uses any different from one that eigrp uses? Logic tells me yes since
there is no dr/bdr with eigrp.

2. what is a successor? defn is a primary route used to reach a
destination, but i thought a successor was a router itself!

3. what is the igrp algorithm (is it the one on page 257)? it says here
tha tigrp * 256 = eigrp's algorithm, but was wondering, why multiply by 256,
and not a different number?

4. says that eigrp supports both lan and wan (p.249)--Ok, I was thinking,
does that mean I can run a routing protocol internally? I think not!

5. and if anyone has the time to explain feasibility to me... It seems
tough right now to understand, stuff like: the local best metric (current
feasible distance) > than next router metric learned from the router!
ugh...

home lab

2001-01-17 Thread Charles Paver

Hi! I am having some difficulty in setting up my lab
at home, and need some good advice. I have two pc's,
2 routers, and one switch. I just want to work on the
routers for now, though. Just established a network
with them, and can telnet into the router. I have a
2514 router with 2 serial and 2 ethernet ports, and
also a 2504 with 1 token ring and 2 serial. I also
have one cross over cable (dce to dte), one rollover
cable as well. My questions are:

1. on the 2514, I can't enable ospf. You know how
you type in router ospf (as#)? well, when i do that,
i do not get a router-config> prompt. But with
eigrp or rip I do. I wanted to practice ospf, but
cant without getting into that mode!

2. how do i connect the two routers? I know i use
the serial calbe, but which router gets the dte or
dce? i reda that all routers are dte, and therefore
need to have the clock rate set if not using the dce!
So, on this router 2514 when i teyped in show int s0,
it says down, down. Now, I went into interface mode,
and did a no shutdown. And then I assigned it an ip
address. But, i cant do anything til i get that
interface up.

3. once they are connected (if i cant use ospf, ill
settle for eigrp :>), then what? This ccnp stuff is
really hard without the materials (such as frame lines
coming into the house, or csu/dsu's!!)

4. I just bought an external modem, so I can dial in
to the router. Anyone know how to set this up to
simulate a t1 coming in? Such as, from my 56k phone
line to the external modem to the serial port? Or is
my logic flawed?

Any advice is very, very appreciated! You guys are awesome!

Netflow Bandwidth Manager

2001-01-20 Thread Charles Nunie

Hello,

We are using a cisco 3620 as our backbone router to the internet running
12.1(5) IOS. We have a billing system (RODOPI) which is able to run with
Cisco's Netflow for bandwidth management.

To connect to the internet we have a WAN which uses private and public IP
addresses and we want to use the Netflow to perform bandwidth management. This
would assign a particular bandwith (eg. 64, 128kbps) to a public or private IP
address on our WAN. No matter the location of the IP address on our WAN, we
would want that assigned bandwidth to be assigned to that IP address.

Please advise on the version of IOS we need to upgrade to and the
configuration parameters for the configuration of the bandwidth manager.

Regards,

Dzilo

ospf study question

2001-01-21 Thread Charles Paver

Hi. Was wondering what interface i could or would put
ospf on, for testing in a home lab environment! Such
as, can I run ospf from eth0 to serial1 with 2
different routers, both on same network? Anyone know
if it is limited to serial interfaces?
Thanks!

Re: Raleigh, NC CCIE study group

2001-01-23 Thread Charles Henson

Loughlin,
I passed the written last week and also am looking for folks that might
be interested in forming a group. I think the hardest part is not
necessarily finding people, it's finding equipment to work on. What did you
have in mind or have you put any extra thought into it?

Re: trace route question

2000-09-15 Thread Charles Ryan

In your traceroute, the router has multiple paths to the destination, that's
why you get the output that you have below. On your router, if you do a
"show ip route www.ibm.com", note the next hop address, then do a show ip
route on that next hop ip address, chances are you will have multiple paths
to that next hop address.

Crazy 2611

2000-09-19 Thread Charles Nunie

Hi everyone,

We have two Cisco 2611 routers which we intend to use for VoIP for a client.
It has the 11.3(2) XA4 version of bootstrap and an 11.3T IOS which we replaced
with 12.0(7) XK1.

Each time we issue commands like copy run start or write mem, it says:

Attempting to overwrite an NVRAM configuration previously written by a
different version of the system image and then asks for confirmation after
which it reboots without making any permanent changes. It also says system
received a segV exception.

Other confirguration commands like dial-peer voice. pots, show run,
more system: running - config etc. also causes the system to reboot in which
situation all configurations are lost.

What could be wrong please.

Francis Amanor

Re: output queue drops

2000-09-22 Thread Charles Ryan

Shawn,

Looks like you need more bandwidthtake a look at the load on the
interface (224/255). This circuit is pretty much maxed out. I see your BW is
set for 768kbmight look into going all the way with a full T1. Also, you
can try changing your queueing from FIFO to WFQ (weighted-fair queueing),
however, it may not do you much good right now since your pipe is saturated.

Re: BGP home lab

2000-10-24 Thread Charles Ryan

You can practice your BGP with as little as 2 2501 routers connected
back-to-back. Seeing how your home lab setup will not be (at least it
shouldn't be) connected to the internet, feel free to inject as many routes
as you wish while you are practicing.

Re: BGP home lab

2000-10-24 Thread Charles Ryan

You need a minimum of 2 routers (naturally) in order to practice some BGP.
With 2 routers (back-to-back), you can configure EBGP or IBGP, you'll only
have 1 neighbor/peer, but it's enough to let you practice the fundamentals.
You can create your BGP neighbor, turn on "debug ip bgp events", and watch
the neighbors get established. You can even turn on "debug ip tcp packet"
and see the TCP 3-way handshake take place when forming the peering
relationship.

Once the connection is "established", you can configure 5 or 10 loopback
interfaces on each router, assign seperate networks to each interface, then
advertise them in BGP. A "show ip bgp" should produce those networks in the
BGP table. Further, a "show ip bgp neighbor x.x.x.x advertised-routes" will
show you the routes you are advertising to your BGP peers.

You are somewhat limited in what you can play with when you only have 2
routers, so 3 routers would be even better if at all possible (the more the
merrier), this would allow you to play with route reflectors,
confederations, etc. But 2 routers should suffice to get a majority of the
BGP basics under your belt.

Dynamic routing on cisco4500

2000-11-02 Thread Charles Nunie

Hi everyone,

we have implemented both a radio and a dial-up link
from a branch office to the head office of a firm.

since the branch office has no router but rather a
switch, we have set up each workstation/equipment on
the lan to see the radio as its primary gateway and
the branch dial-up access server as the secondary
   gateway.

how do we get the cisco4500 router at the head office
to accept information through the dial up when the
radio link goes down. better still how do we get the
cisco4500 to dynamically route between the two links

Re: IP Relay in IPX/IGX

2001-03-27 Thread Charles Peter

Hi Said,

DLCI is locally significant to the router.
However, from the switch point of view, the DLCI defined on the port is
actually pointing to the router on other end of the PVC. I was told this
was called SWAP DLCI. Is that true ?

Also, I was told there are some PVCs are called gateway PVC. What is it ?
