Re: AAA/privilege problem [7:73610]
1 privilege exec level 2 enable Is why console doesn't allow you to enable mode. When you login to your console in your config, you login into privilege level 1 shell. Since enable command is in 2, you dont have access to it. Even if you add "aaa authorization commands 2 console none" To your console line, you will not be able to access. 2 you're missing privilege in your user commands. "username user2 privilege 2 password cisco". That should fix 2nd issue. >From: "Jens Petter Eikeland" >Reply-To: "Jens Petter Eikeland" >To: , >Subject: AAA/privilege problem >Date: Wed, 6 Aug 2003 11:23:23 +0200 > >I have played with som aaa. Re: BGP and Load Balancing [7:54297]
BGP has the option max-paths which allows to have multiple paths. If it is ebgp we can also achieve this with ebgp multi-hop.wheather it is max-paths or multi-hop or static routes most of the time CEF is the ultimate that influence the interface switching. CEF FIB table will be calculated based on the routing table.CEF has limitation of 8 paths so one can have only maximum 8 paths at any given time. BGP is preferred when there is a need for dynamic routing updates and policy changes. If the situation is in small environment and static, there are the cases where static routes are preferred considering the systems rources and router configuration complexties. HTH J. RE: Multi-Switch SPAN/Monitor question [7:47026]
I'm doing exactly that. I have two 5509s spanning into a smaller switch, and the smaller switch spanning into my sensor. But we're moving in a few months, and after the move, I'll be trunking the 5509s, so I won't need to do that anymore. Bob German CCNA, MCSE, CNE Sr Sys Eng - Irides, LLC -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Michael L. Williams Sent: Wednesday, June 19, 2002 10:20 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Multi-Switch SPAN/Monitor question [7:47026] Okay... Let's say I have three switches (or four or whatever). assume these switches are capable of SPANning/Monitoring *all* of the traffic on the switch to a single port. (assume the bandwidth required for the span port isn't more than the bandwidth of the port, which for this discussion is 100Mbps). So, now I have 3 switches , each of which are sending all of their traffic out of a span port. Is it possible to take each of those 100Mbps span links, then connect them into another switch (say a 3550 or something that takes 100Mbps ports and has Gig out) and span them out on a single link? Since a 3550 can span all traffic in a VLAN (which would be all traffic coming into the switch by default) to a port, could I use that 3550 so combine all of the data coming in across all 3 of those 100Mbps span ports from the other switches and combine them and span them out of a gig port on the 3550? Reason I ask, is that we were trying to think of a way to "span" all of the traffic across multiple switches into a single line to connection to an IDS sensor.. Anyone ever do this? Any of your security/IDS people every do this? TIA, Mike W. Re: Sonet, 2 isp's, 2 sites [7:46565]
Brian, If you have full meshed IBGP sessions then r1 will automatically get the route to 12.X.X.X in case link to UUNET failed. Or you have to use r1 and r2 as the route reflectors. Hope this helps, J. brian kastor wrote: All, I have 2 sites. We currently get full routing tables from uunet and AT&T into a single router. We want to put a second router at another site and run IBGP between just those two. We will have two routers between the two running BGP. I guess it would look something like this: site1-r1(bgp)---r2---r3---r4(bgp)-site2 R1 will get UUnet, r4 will get at&t. R1(UUNet) is being used as primary. Behind R1 is our HQ. Behind r4 is a large branch. My concern would be if the link to UUnet goes down, how does traffic from site 1 get out r4. Scenario: User pings 12.x.x.x This is unknown on site 1, so it goes to r1. UUnet is down, so the route is pointing to r4 (ibgp). The packet still has a destination address of 12.x.x.x, but how does r2 know what to do with this packet? It doesn't know where 12.x.x.x is? Someone here at work brought this up to me and I keep saying that the ibgp session gets established, so when you look at the table on r1 for 12.x.x.x, the next hop is the interface of r4. He keeps saying, 'yeah, but when that packet gets to r2, the destination is 12.x.x.x, which it doesn't know.' All of this can be solved if someone tells me that we just need to run ibgp on all 4 routers and i shouldn't see a performance hit. I am worried because these routers are going to be routing user traffic between the sites. Thanks, bk Do You Yahoo!? Swicthing and sniffing [7:41501]
Hi, I like to know how you can sniff (I am using Network General)a device if we are using switches.I can't sniff any data of a particular device which has got problems.Normally, what I do is unplug the device from the switch and put the sniffer and the device together in a hub and monitor what is wrong with the device. This seems to be cumbersome especially if lots of devices are connnected to the switch and it seems that it is not the correct way when the device is put on the network (in the actual switch).I know that certain switches allow the port to be open like 3Com and HP.But what if certain switches like Netgear doesn't allow that. I appreciate anybody's help in this matter and normally how you troubleshoot with switches using a sniffer. I have a Catalyst 5000 in my lab in which I anticipate the same problem. David, I am able to ping with data size 100 and bit pattern 0x, but when I change the data size to 1500 with bit pattern 0x I cannot ping the destination. Is this bcause of carrier problem? Hi Yes I pinged with 1500 buffer size and it pinged properly As I told you in my 1st mail. If I start ftp simultaneously .doc (10 Kb) and any other format file for example a inbox file (20 Mb). The doc file doesnt gets transfered but the other file goes to destination. I tried this in various conditions ( with zero load also etc.) & Platforms (NT / Unix). But it didnt helped me. On my serail interface I hav following config. this may help you *** Serail 0 ip address 20.15.1.1 255.255.255.252 no ip route-cache no ip mroute-cache no fair-queue bandwidth 2048 *** Same config I have on opposite router serail interface. --- Jack Walker <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Could be a carrier issue, try extended ping using > various date sizes till > the largest 1500 if you only have ethernet, see what > happens, and pls let > use know the result. > Good Luck > > Jack Walker > Study Cisco <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote in message > [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... > > Hi > > > > I am facing one strange problem with my WAN. Help!!!!!!!!!
Hi I am facing one strange problem with my WAN. I have 5 branches connected via leased line ( 2Mb ). Previously they were 64 Kb. Now I have added WIC card in all router (Cisco 3640). The connectivity is as follows SiteA-SiteB-SiteC-SiteDSiteE | | | | Site A-B = SiteB-C = SiteC-D = 2Mb. SiteD-E = SiteA-E = 64Kb. SiteA to siteE and SiteD to SiteE are connected via 64 Kb and rest of them are via 2 Mb. The 2Mb between Site B-C is new to 2 Mb. I have not use any QoS on my router interfaces. It is set to FIFO queueing. I have not appiled any filtering or any application level QoS on any of router. I have implemented EIGRP on all router as routing protocol. The kind of problem I am facing are as follows 1. The uucp can not copy between SiteB-C any data between servers using uucp ( on new 2 Mb link ). But other all TCP services work without any problem. So I shifted from uucp to ESMTP for mail server to communicate between site B-C. 2. And recently I am facing new problem of .doc and .xls file are not getting transfered on the same link. when I use simple FTP on the same new link between SiteB-C. It can not transfer any data of .doc or .xls of even 10kb file size. But at the same time parallely I am able to transfer any other data of 20 Mb of other file format. But at the same time I am able to attach the .doc and .xls file to mails and send them across same link. I am totally confused with the kind of problem I am facing since it doesnt seems logical. So can any one help me in this .. Thanks in adv. __ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Photos - 35mm Quality Prints, Now Get 15 Free! http://photos.yahoo.com/ **NOTE: New CCNA/CCDA List has been formed. Cisco Career Track Advise
Hello Friends... I am planning to take reverse turn from routing & switching to wan switching, as i my work responsibilities are related more on wan technologies rather than routing or upper layers. I idea or suggestion would be appreciated. I bought a book for CCNA WAN SW..looks great but bit upset as part II in it gives more hardware or installation details of IGX/BPX/MGX, I expect in exam there will no questions about fans & trays.. thanks rahul.

The break command, does not work with hyperterminal on NT. You can get an updated hyperterminal that fixes the problem. FTP and Telnet
Good day: I am having a delemia in that I need to be able to ftp to a site and also telnet from the outside to a box that is using NAT to communicate with the outside world. Now my basic understanding of this would be that if you NAT it keeps up with all incoming and out going ports. I was told by 2 cisco reps that with FTP and or Telnet traffic that this cannot be done. If anyone has set this up would you please enlighten me as to the process that I need to take? Also, if that is not the case and you cannot do it for some odd reason is it possible to tell the router that any packets coming to this address on such and such port just foward to this box and have communication work that way? If it makes any difference I am trying to do this with a Cisco 3640 running IOS 12.0.7 t. Thanks for your time and help. Damon -Click here for Free Video!!http://www.gohip.com/free_video/
