Sun's j2sdk-1.4.2-fcs installed (same results if not installed). No package named gcc-gcj but I do have gcc-java-3.2.2-3mdk, gcj-tools-3.2.2-3mdk,libgcj3-3.2.2-3mdk, and libgcj3-devel-3.2.2-3mdk installed. 'which java' yields /usr/bin/java which points to /usr/bin/gcj-java-3.2.2 through /etc/alternatives. No switches, but spec file is modified as follows (lines 23-35) to avoid building il8n packages: %define languages1 "ENUS" %define languages2 "" %define languages3 "" %define languages "%{languages1},%{languages2},%{languages3}" %define helplangs1 "ENUS" %define helplangs2 "" %define helplangs "%{helplangs1},%{helplangs2}" 1.0x versions of OpenOffice rebuilt with no trouble at all. Something changed in 1.1. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Arn

The build then succeeded on a Mandrake 9.0 system (which doesn't touch the Internet, and I wanted some later software on it - OOo 1.1, FireBird and a few other bits - but didn't want to disturb the Win4Lin stuff on it). Because it's the key for security updates, and it should be imported for you by urpmi.addmedia when you setup a security update source. See: ftp://mandrake.contactel.cz/Mandrake/updates/9.2/base/pubkey The reason the keys differ is that they are fundamentally different packages. This also has the advantage that you can assign certain keys to certain urpmi media, so for instance if packages signed with the updates key appear in main, they will not be verified. This gives you an extra level of control about ensuring only the rigth packages get installed. Regards, Buchan

bccz> Sometimes it is more effective to post a patch, and/or file a bug. bccz> Sometimes not. Well i can't post a patch since I'm not really a coder. I can find my way around C, perl, php but nothing special. This sometimes bothers me greatly. bccz> But you seem to infer that only Mandrakesoft people are developers, and bccz> exclude yourself from possibly being a developer. Even if I could i wouldn't want to be one. I have contributed to a couple of projects as a test/bugfinder :))) but that's it. I had a couple of good ideas that some people implemented and that's enough for me. I don't think that on this list anybody considered anything that I suggested. For example find a message with a subject: "[Cooker] Lilo + software raid 1 +xfs + lvm curent disfuncionality and nex release sugesstion" or "[Cooker] Lilo Installation bug" It's the same message just a different subject. I haven't had the time to test this with 9.2 but i bet that this wasn't fixed. Haven't had a single reply. This was a significant bug. People like me don't have the time to get involved too much, but sometimes we have some good ideas, we find some bugs and we want them fixed since we don't know how or don't have enough time to do it ourselves. bccz> I do. Do you? Unfortunately I do. Some things i have to do myself since my problem is unique. I have to build a firewall for my network since my network is not ordinary. Possible. So lets wait a month or so and build 9.2.1. Or help me build my own updated 9.2. There are a couple of threads on this list about this but i haven't seen a good solution. Those who packaged 9.2 could do it easily but bccz> %if %{with_MYSQL} bccz> Requires: MySQL, MySQL-client bccz> BuildRequires: MySQL, MySQL-client, MySQL-devel bccz> %endif I see what you mean. But this is nonsense. If postfix has a module for mysql why should postfix depend on mysql if it doesn't affect its core functionality. Please don't get offended if I disturbed you in some more important work ? Maybe to sarcastic but you get the point. According to the developer who ported the driver to linux, Telemann (hardware manufacturer) did not make a full source release of their driver and unfortunately there is a binary component (independent of kernel interface) that cannot be compiled. He has approached Telemann about getting this library recompiled or releasing the source code, but they have not yet responded. So it looks like I'll have to go back to an ancient kernel. Hopefully I can use the 9.1 kernel-source-2.4.21-0.25mdk.i586.rpm with 9.2. Thanks very much for your advice Buchan. Sharrea -- Help Microsoft stamp out piracy - give Linux to a friend today

up until this morning i was happily at msec 4. i changed one of the default settings and now i can't su to root from anywhere. Either in X or at console. Help. I don't wanna reinstall. I have 9.2 btw -- On his way back from work, a driver came upon a horrible wreck in which one car looked exactly like his neighbor's. Stopping hurriedly on the side of the road, he ran toward the smoldering debris. "Listen, mister," a policeman said, holding him back, "I can't let you come any closer." "But that may be my friend, Henry, in there," the anguished man explained. "OK, but it's pretty grisly," the cop cautioned. "There was a decapitation." The policeman reached into the back seat of the demolished car and pulled forth the head, holding it at arm's length. "Is this your friend?" "That's not him -- thank heavens," the man said. "Henry's much taller."

I also think that this could be a possible "club-only" thing, a market gap for Mandrake to take advantage of in order to bring in more Club dollars. Retail boxes could still have the old masters, and *that* would give even retail customers an incentive to join the club (so the money would go more directly to Mandrake) where they could get remastered and updated ISO's for download by bittorrent or FTP. This is another chance to add value to the club, and thus add incentive for the customer to join the club. You don't really want to resign anything, the objective in checking the signature is to verify the integrity of the package and to insure that the packages you have are exactly identical to the packages that reside at Mandrake corporate. That's what Gpg signatures do; they verify that the download gave you a package that's identical to the source, or what the author had whenever he signed it. Authenticity. The authenticity thing would be my assurance that the CD I was buying had a set of packages exactly indistinguishable from what Mandrake has, and would therefore be an incentive to order and pay for a set of CD's. It takes people time to read HOWTO's and learn the curve necessary to build installation CD's properly, alot of people don't need to be doing this unless they are going to be doing it alot, and these days more than any other, time is money. Creation of Mandrake installation CD's with the latest update packages already integrated fills the market gap for those people who are busy. But only with assurance of authenticity. > Cheers, > > Manu > > > P.S: Good feedback. I think it's a good idea overall, but I would keep one version of installation cd's that were "vanilla", that is indistinguishable from Mandrake's set except of course for the integrated updated packages. Then for a few bucks more you could offer the enhanced version with maybe ALL the PLF stuff. Since you are considering that I also suggest that you include Vincent Danen's set of indisposable RPM's at rpmhelp.net. I don't know about anybody else but I absolutely have to have that stuff. Yes I know that it is in the contrib thanks to the votes. Look the main problem here is that some of us need some new features which are not so common. If added they would not make any difference to the most people. Most wouldn't even notice them but it would make a great difference to some of us since it would be supported by mandrake. Example cyrus-sasl doesn't have a support for mysql or postgre. If added this wouldn't make any difference to most of the people. Most of the people don't even use it. But it would make a great difference to me since the next time a security patch is released I wouldn't have to go try the same process of patching building and testing. I don't have enough resources to keep all of the old mandrake releases installed so I could build a few rpm when a bug is found. Maybe a moderated feature request list should be built for mandrake developers as a reference point. New features are always welcome as long they don't affect stability. bccz> Please, post your bug numbers, otherwise there is no reason to give any bccz> credence to reports like this. Maybe. But according to my experience until you start complaining about something it will never get fixed. the problem here is that until a lot of people starts complaining nothing will get changed. A lot of people think like this 9.0 = test, 9.1 = a little better, 9.2 = absolutely perfect. this just to be in the old days. Now it seems that to many people are crying for bleeding edge and distributions are truing to catch up.

Cheers, Manu P.S: Good feedback. I agree with getting new distro CDs every so often and i am willing to do it (fast net connection helps) every so often (so expect Manudrake 9.2.2 etc...). i just need a bit of help setting it all up (e.g. signing packages)... which packages to ad etc... Also, since I'm a bit strapped for cash this month, I'm planning to sell these on CDs in the UK for people with slower connections (kinda like cheapbytes) - probably for £5 for 4 CDs including shipping (will get back on Monday). Anyone interested??? Cheers, Manu This is a fantastic idea, I wish somebody had done this a long time ago. In my opinion this is a real market gap and it's something I'd be willing to pay for. Right now 9.1 has a huge amount of updates that would better be integrated into a new set of installation cd's, instead of a tag-along cd as I'm doing it now. The only suggestion I have is that before you master them you do all your Gpg checks on the packages and make sure all the rpm's pass. LX

Re: [Cooker] New ISO with updates
Hey, I had a quick look at the patch but I'm not sure how to apply it to the tree. If you have any ideas, please let me know and I'll apply it no problem. That's great! When you release I'll download at work and leave the torrent up for others. Since we know now the reason of it, it shouldn't take to long. I for myself doesn't have that problem anymore, i have my cash back for my fried drive and will stay away from LG from now on. Thanks Steffen

Hope this helps: steps to reproduce: - make a fresh install of Mandrake 9.2 final (not an update!) - choose all desktops (KDE, GNOME, Other) and all other package groups but not servers - choose KDE as your default desktop during install and in first time wizard - make some changes to the kicker i.e. add a Konqueror button to kicker - install package "kdeaddons-3.1.3-4mdk.i586.rpm" - wait Symptoms include: - K menu shows only a small subset of what it should show - the Konqueror button miraculously dissapears from Kicker - the Konqueror icon on desktop gives error something like "File 'home.desktop' not found" - logging out and back in *does not* help (except for the desktop icon) - running update-menus *does not* help - running MenuDrake and changing style to any other style than "Administrator settings" (please understand that my Mandrake is translated so this might not be accurate) *does* help. Also note that some users are reporting that Alt+F2 in these circumstances doesn't work. In this testcase it works, infact that's the only way to run menudrake. I was under impression that this problem was detected http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5957 and solved http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5511 so why is this discussion persisting? __ Do you Yahoo!? Re: [Cooker] New ISO with updates
Righto, the isos are created and I'm just about to test them. If I cannot find any problems, I'll bittorrent them on Monday under the name of Manudrake-9.2.1 (I'm fairly sure i cannot use the name Mandrake and 9.2.1 is better than 9.2SP1 (in my opinion)). Also, since I'm a bit strapped for cash this month, I'm planning to sell these on CDs in the UK for people with slower connections (kinda like cheapbytes) - probably for £5 for 4 CDs including shipping (will get back on Monday). Anyone interested??? Cheers, Manu

Who had this fabulous idea of not putting up srpms? Most of the inhouse made commercial rpms are full of bugs, incompatible and outdated. It is a waste of employee-time to maintain these things. Put the srpms up and let us rebuild it when needed. (no i do not put up my own versions because last time i did that with java people were complaining to me about the other rpm, it is confusing and another waste of recources to double the work) d.

The whole design idea is wrong. IMO in doesn't make sense to abstract a filesystem at a DE level, at least not for current systems. It would be better if lisa (or whatever) asked LUFS or even plain (smb)mount to mount the fs. This is less work and has probably less bugs than the current hacks. Playing an mp3 via smb:// currently means downloading the file first before a player starts playing it. I do not want 2 minute pauses between my music (don't even try it with video). Mounting it makes it available for all apps and toolkits. Makes more sense to me. d.

Have you considered that maybe Mandrakesoft doesn't want postfix to depend on mysql by default, but *does* want to make it easy for someone to build the package with mysql support All you need to do is: $ rpm --rebuild --with mysql postfix*.src.rpm Luckily, ldap support is on by default. > What's the big deal? Yes, this needs to be solved in some way (but building postfix with mysql isn't the total solution, rather we need to deal with custom packages better).
