Well, if I were to name myself after, say, the Murray River you would probably assume 
Murray was a male. Similarly if I named myself for Alice Springs, you would probably

(sounds farfetched really- lennon claims to have taken more tabs in those
two years than there were days- so julian may have drawn anything and john

anyway, regardless of the innocence (or not) of the influence for the song-
it is still an advertisment for acid.
when i was 10 our class teacher played us the track and told us it was
written after taking a drug- lsd. he made us draw pictures of scenes from
the song.
i wonder what percentage of the class made the same decision i did- i *had*
to try it as soon as possible.

reading the information and comments on this list.
But I can't be still when Art Bell is being attacked
and insulted.

This man has been through a terrible ordeal.  It is
people like you who helped drive him off the air in
the first place.

Now that he is back, he will be better than ever.
There are 10 million listener's who hang on every word
he says.  I don't necessarily believe it all, but then
neither does he.  He provides an open forum for
subjects (including the conspriracy theories promoted
on this list) that main stream media only mock and
make fun of.

Perhaps if you people listen to Art Bell when he
returns, you will learn something.

Miami employees of the Immigration and Naturalization Service
were ordered to destroy or conceal documents and electronic mail
related to the Elián González case, according to a deposition by
an attorney who represents INS workers.
   In a deposition given last month for the federal lawsuit that Elián's
Miami relatives have filed against the U.S. government, Coral
Springs attorney Donald Appignani testified that INS employees
had told him that "the U.S. government could be breaking the law."
   "Basically, that is what I heard," Appignani testified. "People
were instructed to remove anything derogatory to the Elián
González case."
   Appignani, a labor lawyer who represents the union that bargains
for INS employees and also handles the employees' equal
employment complaints against the government, would not reveal
which employees told him of the orders, who gave the instructions,
or what information the documents and e-mail contained. He said
he did not hear the orders directly; they were related to him by
employees.
   At the urging of his clients, Appignani in November approached
lawyer Ronald Guralnick with the information. Guralnick represents
the family of Lázaro González, the great-uncle who tried to keep
the boy here and is now suing the federal government and Miami
police, claiming the April 22 raid that removed the boy violated the
family's constitutional rights.
   Guralnick deems the information so valuable that he has asked
U.S. District Judge Federico Moreno to order Appignani to disclose
all he knows.
   "This is a major break in the case," Guralnick said. "I'm looking
forward to the court's ruling on our motion to compel attorney
Appignani to testify to the questions he refused to answer at
deposition, and I'm looking forward to talking to his clients."
   Aloyma M. Sanchez, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's
Office, said it would support Guralnick's motion to compel
Appignani to provide more detail.
   "These are serious allegations," Sanchez said. "We want to
uncover the truth."
   Appignani also testified that INS employees thought there was
an atmosphere of contempt toward Cuban-Americans at the INS
regional office in Miami, which could prove detrimental to the
government if brought out at trial before a jury.
   He said he saw a cup circulated at INS offices with a plastic
wrapper imprinted with a Cuban flag inside a circle with a red line
drawn through it. On the other side was an image of a stopwatch
with the number 154 inside -- for the 154 seconds it took agents to
remove Elián from his Miami relatives' home.
   Appignani also confirmed he had told Guralnick that, after the
raid, INS Regional Director Robert Wallis told about 50 INS
employees that "it was the happiest day of his life when he saw a
photograph of a person on the ground with a gun pointed at his
head, because before the negotiations (between the Justice
Department and the relatives' lawyers) this person wouldn't shake
his hand."
   Appignani said he did not hear Wallis say this but was told he
had.
   Wallis could not be reached for comment Friday.
   Under questioning from Justice Department Attorney Nina
Pelletier, Appignani said he did not go to the authorities after
employees told him they thought laws had been broken but went to
Guralnick because that's what his clients had asked him to do.
   In court documents, Appignani said he should not have to reveal
who his clients are because they fear reprisal by their employers,
the INS and the Justice Department.
   "I don't really know if anything illegal was done or not, but it's not
my position to figure that out," he said. "The reason they didn't go
to the authorities is because the authorities are the employer and
the defendant in the case."
   It's uncertain how much the INS employees' complaints will play
in the trial because unless Guralnick and his investigators can
prove that INS officials ordered the destruction of evidence, it would
be difficult to allege a crime.

Yes it is. But it's not effective. That is to say, that it can't really
blow up the stuff on the ground and more importantly in the air that the
Pentagon might want.

Star Wars is what will make that possible. That is why the New World Order
types in the USA and SOME other places want to see it happen, and why
EVERYBODY else will try to prevent it.

Imagine that you live in New York, and the Russians have satellite weapons
which could easily target NY for damage or destruction because the USA is not
behaving the way the Russians might want it to.. Would YOU allow
the US government to permit the Russians to control such technology?

Well this is how the rest of the world sees the U.S.. They know that the only
country to have used nuclear weapons to expand it's empire would not hesitate
to use space based weapons on the civilian populations of the world should
they be foolish enough to disobey America.

For this reason, it is logical to assume that we ordinary Americans will
become targets of terrorism from abroad as other nations try to stop our
military and political elites from enslaving the world.

THIS IS WHAT THE MISSILE DEFENSE INITIATIVE IS REALLY ABOUT. It is the
development stage for the ultimate weapons system of the New World Order.
Not to mention a guaranteed economic boom for High Tech and weapons corporations.

To protect ourselves, AND everyone else, it behooves us as Americans to PREVENT
the militarization of space by ANYBODY. Especially the United States.

THAT WAS THE EXCUSE, NOT THE REAL REASON.

When the Ruling Cabal makes disruptive changes,
they always set up others to take the blame.
So Americans could cuss OPEC and the Arabs
with regard to high energy prices in the 70's.
They were the "patsies"...the "fall guys".
OPEC does not dictate nor control oil prices.
Ask yourself:
Who controls oil exploration?
Who controls oilwell drilling?
Who controls the oil pipelines?
Who controls the oil tankers?
Who controls the refineries?
Who controls wholesale gasoline distribution?
Who controls the huge gas retail chains?

The answer isn't "OPEC".

There was no shortage of crude oil or gasoline
in the 70's.
Oh yes...there was a shortage at the retail outlets.
That was artificially created to bamboozle the
publicand it worked.
People were willing...even glad to pay triple the
price for gasoline...just happy to get some.

But did you notice, that once the gas prices
had doubled and redoubled...suddenly there was
no more "shortage".
Once the price had risen to where they wanted it,
then there was plenty of gas.

The course of your bigorty is as predictible as it is cliched.  I
anticipated exactly correctly that your memory would produce just such
disinformation as it always does when it serves your purpose to depict
anything Southern as bigoted, evil and fraught with racial strife.  I took
the liberty of contacting an expert on the subject who is a blues singer
himself and was asked to speak on the subject and perform at the dedication
of her museum and below I have his comments.  Feel free to contact him on
the subject if you do not believe me. But with his being just an ignorant
Southerner, I am sure you know more and better about this than even her
family and the man driving the car when she was killed from whom this
information was obtained.

Well, to which one are you referring--the dentist who believed Negroes did
not have souls or the ones who threatened you for employing a black man for
the antenna?  You may well have been threatened if you used a non-union
electrician, just as I was once in Illinois but how can you possibly contend
you were threatened for employing a black person when half the whites in the
South do that very same?  You are leaving out some crucial detail such as
his union status in order to make it appear racially motivated.  Tomorrow
you may just as well post something about whites exploiting blacks by
employing them in their homes with no benefits.  For years and even a couple
of generations, literally ALL household help in the South was black as you
and anybody else who has watched even a movie from the era you mentioned
knows--blacks portrayed only as butlers, maids, gardeners--more stereotyping
as they were also teachers, professionals, etc.  So please tell me how JUST
PRUDY was singled out from literally millions to be threatened for employing
a black man?

Hate the South and all things Southern all you want for by the time we reach
adulthood, we have a skin so thick in this regard that you CANNOT penetrate
it.  You do not have that power.  Hate away but do not lie for you will be
called on that.

Perhaps you need to check just a bit more about BessieSmith's  death from a
car wreck.  It's correct as far as it goes, although I seem to remember that
it was a leg not an arm injury.  I could be mistaken about that.  However,

seems that she was quickly transported to a hospital.  She was refused
treatment there, because the hospital refused to treat "Negroes."  By the
time they managed to get her to a hospital that would treat her, she had
bled
to death.   I don't particularly hate the south.  I just don't think they
were joking with her when she was turned away, and I don't think they were

Things change, especially after some people are emotionally struck(being
human). I don't claim to be a "devotee" but I read an article on Bell a
couple years ago that stated his listening audience could range from 12
million to as many as 15 million listeners, I'd say with that in mind we
have allot of fanatics in this country. Dishonesty...how does anyone know.

In the news this week, George W. Bush rounded out his cabinet nominees
and other major appointments.

As it now stands, John Ashcroft is the nominee for Attorney General,
Colin Powell for Secretary of State, Donald Rumsfeld for Defense, Don
Evans for Commerce, Rod Paige for Education, Tommy Thompson for Health
and Human Services, Mel Martinez for Housing and Urban Development,
Linda Chavez for Labor, Spencer Abraham for Energy, Norman Mineta for
Transportation, Ann Veneman for Agriculture, Gale Norton for Interior,
Paul O'Neill for Treasury, Anthony Prinicipi for Veterans Affairs.

Mr. Bush has appointed Condoleezza Rice his National Security Adviser,
Lawrence Lindsey, the principal architect of his $1.3 trillion tax cut
plan, as his chief economics advisor, Christine Todd Whitman to head
the EPA, Harrison Schmitt to head NASA, and as for his "Iron Triangle"
of Texas advisers, Karl Rove will serve as Mr. Bush's senior White
House advisor, Joe Allbaugh will head FEMA, and Karen Hughes will
serve as senior White House counsel.

Of Mr. Bush's nominees and appointees, David A. Keene, the esteemed
chair of the American Conservative Union, concludes: "Conservatives
everywhere can be proud of this president-elect, and should unite
behind the team he has assembled. Even those Cabinet picks who cannot
be described as staunch conservatives will be charged with carrying
out the agenda laid out by Governor Bush during the campaign. I
believe that they can be counted on to do so. President-elect Bush has
given every indication that he has no plans to deviate from the
conservative agenda"

Regarding the left's complaints about Mr. Bush's selections, political
observer Rich Galen notes: "We got insiders. We got outsiders. We got
Blacks. We got Women. We got Arabs, Hispanics, Japanese, Italians,
Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives, and Moderates. We got people
who have been former federal executive branch officials, Members of
Congress, military leaders, Governors, state officials, local
officials, and business executives. For all his promises to 'make his
Cabinet look like America,' Bill Clinton couldn't do it. George W.
did."

It is the opinion of the majority of The Federalist Editorial Board
that Mr. Bush's nominee and appointee selections reflect the same
quality of leadership, which guided his selection of Dick Cheney as
his running mate. He is surrounding himself with a competent and
capable cabinet. However, rest assured our editors intend to review
Mr. Bush's performance -- and that of his Cabinet -- with the same
conservative scrutiny applied to Clinton-Gore for their tenure in the
White House.

We also believe that liberals and conservatives alike are
significantly underestimating Mr. Bush's ability to breathe new life
into the conservative agenda. But one thing the left is not
underestimating is the potential for Mr. Bush to unify the nation
around his agenda and win big in 2004. After all, in his first run for
Texas governor, he defeated his father's nemesis, Demo-gogue
Clintonista Ann Richards, and went on to win a second term in an
unprecedented landslide.

It should be noted that Mr. Bush will be doing much more than
installing new administration faces after January 20th. He will be
restoring a few things that have been painfully absent from the
presidency for eight long years -- most notably, honor and common
decency. For that, all Americans should be thankful.

There is a very big difference between Smith and Turner.  Turner finally made a break 
from the life she had
known, making a decision to venture into a new life no matter what the consequences.  
Smith never made such a
decision, and remained in abusive relationships all her life.  And quite frankly, that 
IS one of the things
she is remembered for, as indivisible from her as Billie Holiday's drug addiction (and 
abusive relationships,
too) was to Holiday's life...

  The vast majority of the population in the United States were too young 
  to remember the 6 day (1967 war) and the 1973 Yom Kippur War in the Mid-East. 
  The Yom Kippur war resulted in the Arab oil embargo which devastated the U.S. 
  economy for a decade.
   
  Gasoline went from .20 wholesale to over .80 cents. If supplies were 
  available, there was an odd-even day scheme imposed by the government when you 
  could get gas and you were often limited to 10 gallons. Thermostats were 
  mandated to be set at 68 degrees in the winter and 78 in the summer. The speed 
  limit was reduced from 70mph to 55 mph to conserve energy.
   
  Twenty-seven years later we stand on the precipice of a new war with the 
  possibility of the use of tactical, land based, and submarine based nuclear 
  weapons in the region. The consequences of such a conflagration are 
  unimaginable.
   
  The U.S. has failed miserably in formulating a energy-independent policy. 
  Eventhough our import from the mid-east have stabilized around 30%, we still 
  import more oil than ever, the difference being closed by imports from 
  Venezuela and Nigeria - both countries  that are inherently 
  unstable.
   
  Given a best case scenario, a war in the mid-east without the use of 
  nuclear weapons would drive wholesale gas to at least $4.00 per gallon and 
  electricity would triple. This would effectively cripple the U.S. economy 
  since we are so heavily dependent on all types of imports - not just energy, 
  but manufactured goods as well. Inflation could easily rise to 25 to 30% per 
  annum which would devastate the stock and bond markets into which investors 
  are now being herded.
   
  If the war should go 'hot' (nuclear) then it would be TEOTWAWKI (The 
  End of the World as We Know It.) Global markets would completely crash and you 
  would see the largest liquidity scramble in history. Japan would in all 
  likelihood pull all of it T-Bills and Bonds out of the U.S. just to meet it 
  oil costs. This would bring the global economy to a standstill.
   
  You would see concomitant chaos in the U.S. as the federal deficit would 
  balloon to keep social programs afloat. Unemployment would skyrocket to over 
  30% with the social problems that high unemployment brings.
   
  Cities and counties would have to cut back on services and at the very 
  least, your garbage pick up would be once a week. These are the things we take 
  for granted.
   
  There is currently a program on UPN called FREEDOM, in which the U.S. is 
  turned into a police state after a mid-east war. Could this be another case of 
  art imitating life?

0018.  F-22 aircraft No. 4005 completes successful first flight

WASHINGTON (AFPN) -- The Air Force's F-22 program soared past another
milestone with the first flight of an F-22 Raptor equipped with
combat-capable avionics, according to Air Force officials.

The successful first flight of Raptor 4005 from the Lockheed Martin facility
in Marietta, Ga., took place Jan. 5.

The flight incorporated Block 3.0 software components, which provide
functions such as radar processing and sensor fusion, electronic warfare and
countermeasures, communication, navigation and identification, and
pilot/vehicle interface.  It was one of three remaining tasks required
before a decision to start F-22 low-rate initial production.

"Flying Raptor 4005 with the Block 3.0 (software) represented the program's
current most technically demanding challenge," said Brig. Gen. Jay Jabour,
F-22 System program director.  "This successful flight, in addition to our
other recent achievements, demonstrates the program is ready for low-rate
production."

The F-22 is the next step in the Air Force's transformation to the
expeditionary aerospace force of the future.  Fielding the Raptor in
sufficient numbers will help guarantee future U.S. air dominance, said
officials.  As a force enabler, it will reduce the risk to U.S. and friendly
forces in conflicts of all sizes and lead to dramatically fewer allied
casualties, he added.

"Block 3.0 is the software that provides and controls the 'first look, first
shot, first kill' warfighting capability of the F-22 Raptor," said Tom
McDermott, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics' F-22 avionics product manager.
"Block 3.0 provides the multi-sensor fusion Raptor pilots will need to
accurately acquire, track, identify and engage multiple targets."

Besides Block 3.0's ability to launch and guide multiple weapons -- such as
the AIM-120 and AIM-9 air-to-air intercept missiles -- this software package
enables the aircraft to automatically detect and defeat incoming missiles by
initiating the Raptor's countermeasures, according to McDermott.

The Boeing Company integrates and tests the Raptor's avionics at the
Avionics Integration Lab in Seattle and on a modified aircraft known as the
Flying Test Bed.  Both the AIL and FTB are helping reduce avionics risks and
contain development costs by enabling extensive evaluation and
troubleshooting before full avionics are installed on the F-22.

The decision to enter low-rate initial production rests with the Defense
Acquisition Board.  The DAB, previously scheduled for Jan. 3, has been
postponed until next week.  Weather was the driving factor in postponing the
meeting.

"The good news is the F-22 is the most tested aircraft the DOD has ever
developed.  It features proven technology that promises to give America the
most-advanced fighter aircraft in the world," said Secretary of the Air
Force Whit Peters.

The Air Force is confident the F-22 program will meet all performance
requirements while delivering all production aircraft within the
congressional funding cap, the secretary added.

Peters and other senior Air Force officials are interpreting Congress'
recent approval of bridge funding to keep the F-22 on track as a sign of its
belief in the value of the program and the aircraft.

Last year, the F-22 program faced the challenging task of completing 11 DAB
criteria needed to satisfy a low-rate initial production decision by Dec.
31.  Despite several delays, including recent snowstorms, it is now within
days of completing the final two.

The Raptor contractor team, consisting of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co.;
Boeing Co., Seattle; and Pratt & Whitney, Hartford, Conn.; produce the F-22.
Eleven major subsystem suppliers from across the country developed the Block
3.0 software.

The F-22 will replace the F-15 as the Air Force's next air superiority
fighter aircraft.

The F-22 program is managed by the F-22 System Program Office, Aeronautical
Systems Center, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.



0019.  Air Force needs $38M to keep Airborne Laser program on track

WASHINGTON (AFPN) -- Air Force officials said Jan. 5 they will request
congressional approval to reprogram $38 million in fiscal 2001 funds to keep
the Airborne Laser program, the world's first laser-armed combat aircraft,
on track for a live-fire demonstration in 2003.

The money is needed to cover contractor tasks that must be conducted now but
are not budgeted for until later years, officials said.  The extra funds
will also cover unforeseen technical adjustments that arose during the
program's current development phase.

Additionally, the ABL contractor team of Boeing, Lockheed-Martin and TRW
will each contribute $20 million this year with the expectation that the Air
Force will reimburse them next year.

A bio this short is not expected to be all inclusive.  I am told "Bessie" by
Chris Albertson is the definitive work on her.  As for this being a
revisionist one, it is basically in keeping with everything I have ever
read.  If you have any info at all on the subject to which the biographers
are not privy, please post it by all means.  Not only would I love to read
it but I will hand-carry it to the curator as I drive by at least weekly.

She may well have had dysfunctional relationships and that is implied by
that bio. In fact, given her personality, I'd think most of her
relationships would have been at least unusual. As for an abusive one,
probably,  maybe more than one, but like Tina Turner, it is not that for
which her personality will be remembered.  She was very remarkable for a
woman of that time in her independence and free spirit.  And I was posting
from the perspective of every subject having the race card played on it
instead of her personal affairs of which there seemed to be many.

Note that even the briefest of bios usually give more than necessary details
of her death as even at that time there was an attempt at fabrication of a
race card element being played in reports that she was denied treatment at a
hospital, a fact refuted conclusively.  The severity of her injuries did not
allow for that to have even been possible but people will try these things.

So, no I do not claim this is a superb bio, just what I had at hand and
cannot post Albertson's.  But do send any further info.  I have always found
her fascinating.  We have a Bessie Smith Strut Day where she is commemorated
and her music played to dancing in the streets, barbecue to die for and
great fun annually in downtown Chattanooga.  Most of my knowledge of her
comes from the museum for which her family and friends descendants supplied
the info but I always want to know more.

personnel who died in that war.
He was "giving the finger" to every American
Veteran who served in Vietnam.

This item Amelia was in a Gay Newspaper and is not accurate - first she
was admitted to the hospital, this is a matter of record in library of
congress.

She was a black lesbian which most certainly did nt endear her to many
in that day and age and today would still raise a few eyebrows.

This is a description of her by those who liked her.   Will see if I can
find the story - they rearended a truck, were taken to a hospital but
she had lost too much blood - her arm had been crushed and other
injuries..item stated that the stories re white hospitals not
treating her were not true.

Knew a lot of poor whites in my day, but they were not obscene just
because they were poor.

confidence, and a pair of lungs that could send a song hurtling to the
back of any house without amplification. A mean drunk and vicious street
fighter, she was also a voracious lesbian who wasn't above devouring any
man she took a fancy to. Listen to "Nobody Knows You When You're Down
and Out" or "Empty Bed Blues." It's all there. Bessie died an ugly
death, in Mississippi, hemorrhaging from an auto accident. Details vary,
but most agree that the white hospitals turned her away. And an empress
was allowed to die a like a dog in the road.

Perhaps you need to check just a bit more about BessieSmith's  death from a
car wreck.  It's correct as far as it goes, although I seem to remember that
it was a leg not an arm injury.  I could be mistaken about that.  However, it
seems that she was quickly transported to a hospital.  She was refused
treatment there, because the hospital refused to treat "Negroes."  By the
time they managed to get her to a hospital that would treat her, she had bled
to death.   I don't particularly hate the south.  I just don't think they
were joking with her when she was turned away, and I don't think they were

Jan. 3   Forget all the rhetoric during the campaign from George
W. Bush about morals, virtue, honor and restoring America to her
former glory. The Age of Embarrassment is upon us, and if you
think you were humiliated by Bill Clinton¹s shenanigans in the
Oval Office, baby, you ain¹t seen nothin¹ yet.

THIS IS the era to cringe as you see the latest Republican
retread nominated for a cabinet post. You can¹t help but blush
when a right-wing, racist, Republican senatorial candidate from
Missouri loses the election to a dead Democratic opponent and
then is rewarded by the president-elect by being nominated U.S.
Attorney General. Not to mention the deja vu all over again that
struck when Donald Rumsfeld was nominated for Secretary of
Defense, one mo¹ time. If you can remember back that far, this is
the man who began his political career with Richard Nixon and
graduated to being Secretary of Defense in the Ford
Administration, is a supporter of space-based defense systems 
remember the joke that was Star Wars?


NO VISIONARIES HERE

   Watching Bush announce his cabinet choices over the last
few weeks, I suppose it¹s possible for those who did not vote for
him to avoid feeling sick, disgusted, or outraged. But it¹s been
totally impossible to avoid being embarrassed.

It¹s as if we¹re watching some bad national sitcom, very loosely
based on Oedipus, in which the First Son tries to prove himself
to his ex-commander-in-chief father. And how does he go about
doing this? By surrounding himself with aging father surrogates 
first and foremost Daddy¹s main man, Dick Cheney, who, heading
the vice-presidential search committee, ended up having himself
chosen for the job.

Junior Bush¹s cabinet choices are composed of an
assortment of right-wing ideologues, fat cats, has-beens,
wannabes, and plain ol¹ opportunists. Not a visionary in the
bunch, and no one in sight who seems capable of imagining this
nation or the world absent the status quo of corporate
capitalism. From soon-to-be Secretary of State Colin Powell to
Gale Norton, nominated to head the Department of the Interior, to
New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman, whose state is a hotbed
of racial profiling and who herself once smiled for the cameras
as she participated in a ceremonial stop-and-frisk operation,
there¹s not an original, innovative thinker in the bunch.
 Sure, there¹s superficial diversity in the Bush cabinet, which
includes two African Americans, two Latinos, two women, and a
lone Democrat of Asian descent, but the cabinet still remains
overwhelmingly conservative politically.

THE POWELL FACTOR

   I¹m not comforted by the selection of Colin Powell,
white America¹s favorite Negro, as Secretary of State. In an
America where major changes have been made through citizens
saying ³no² to authority, particularly African Americans, Powell
is an obedient military man who was involved in the major
military debacles of the last half of the 20th century, including
Vietnam, Grenada and the Gulf War.

As for women, Gale Norton, who worked under former
Secretary of the Interior and environmental assassin James Watt,
isn¹t likely to stray from the conservative mindset that concerns
about protecting the environment must always give way to
corporate profits. Gender won¹t help us here; this is a woman who
believes corporate self-policing  rather than federal laws and
regulations  is the way to protect the environment.

I suppose I shouldn¹t be surprised that after
bushwhacking the U.S. Supreme Court, W decided to select Missouri
Sen. John D. Ashcroft for Attorney General, an anti-abortion
ideologue who accepted an honorary degree from the notoriously
racist Bob Jones University in 1999. Ashcroft¹s biggest challenge
in his upcoming confirmation hearing will be explaining exactly
why he led the dishonest assault that destroyed African American
Missouri Supreme Court Judge Ronnie White¹s nomination to a
federal judgeship.

   Looking at Bush¹s cabinet picks is like waking up to a
recurring nightmare that gets worse by the moment, without any
relief in sight. Perhaps the scariest aspect is that while Bush
consistently chooses committed conservative ideologues, he
appears to have little commitment or clear ideology himself. He¹s
still Daddy¹s wayward prankster son, only this time with a big
job and the power to hire his father¹s cronies to do it for him.

  Watching Bush announce his cabinet is like the scene in
³The Wizard of Oz,² in which the Wizard is revealed as a short,

Insight uncovers a spy probe in the United States by the Canadian
government into the theft of computer software that allegedly
allows surveillance of top-secret government computer systems.

Good morning, Mr. McDade. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police has
reason to believe that the national security of Canada has been
compromised. A trojan horse, or back door, allegedly has been
found in computer systems in the nations top law-enforcement and
intelligence organizations.

   Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to
establish whether this is the PROMIS software reportedly stolen
in the early 1980s from William and Nancy Hamilton, owners of
Inslaw Inc., and reportedly modified for international espionage.
As always, should you or any of your associates be caught, the
governments of Canada and the United States will disavow any
knowledge of your actions. This recording will self-destruct in

   Sounds like the opening taped message from an episode of
the 1960s TV action series Mission Impossible. But just such a
mission was offered and accepted by two investigators of the
National Security Section of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police
(RCMP). The Mounties then covertly entered the United States in
February of last year and for nearly eight months conducted a
secret investigation into the theft of the PROMIS software and
whether and by whom it had been obtained for backdoor spying.
PROMIS is a universal bridge to the forest of computer systems.
It allows covert and undetectable surveillance, and it and its
related successors are unimaginably important in the new age of
communications warfare.

   In this exclusive investigative series Insight tracks the
Mounties and explores the mysteries pursued by the RCMP,
including allegations involving a gang of characters believed to
be associated with the suspected theft of PROMIS, swarms of spies
(or the spookloop as the Mounties called them), the Mafia,
big-time money laundering, murder, international arms smuggling
and illegal drugs to name but a few aspects of the still-secret
RCMP probe.

   But the keystone to this RCMP investigation is PROMIS,
that universal bridge and monitoring system, which stands for
Prosecutors Management Information System a breakthrough computer
software program originally developed in the early 1970s by the
Hamiltons for case management by U.S. prosecutors. The first
version of PROMIS was owned by the government since the
development money was provided by the Department of Justice
(DOJ), but something went awry on the way to proprietary
development.

   For more than 15 years the story of the allegedly pirated
Hamilton software, and how it may have wound up in the hands of
the spy agencies of the world, has been hotly pursued by
law-enforcement agencies, private detectives, journalists,
congressional investigators, U.S. Customs and assorted U.S.
attorneys. Even independent researchers have taken on the role of
counterespionage agents in a quest to uncover the truth about
this allegedly ongoing penetration of security.

   But each new U.S. investigation has failed fully to
determine what happened. While the Mounties encountered a similar
fate, officers Sean McDade and Randy Buffam have been the most
successful to date. Last May, with the assistance of Hercules,
Calif., detective Sue Todd, the Mounties walked away with a
package of startling evidence that many believe will solve the
case of the pirated software and its reported continuing use for
international espionage and a host of other illegal activities.

   Insight has spent months retracing the steps of the two
RCMP officers and interviewing their sources, poring over copies
of documents they secured, listening to tape recordings of
meetings in which they were involved and reviewing scores of
reports and depositions that have been locked up for years.

   The result is this first installment of a four-part
investigative report about how the Mounties conducted their
covert border crossings and investigation that ranged across the
United States and back again before returning to Canada where
they discovered their cover had been blown. By late summer of
2000 the Canadian press was reporting not only the existence of
this secret national-security probe Project Abbreviation but that
if the reported allegations prove true it would be the
biggest-ever breach of Canadas national security. Confusing
official comments about the probe added further mystery. But
Insight has confirmed many of the details, including the fact

The practice of hand-copying texts used in courtly circles was also the
chief means of distribution in the Church. Scribes were paid to
laboriously copy out by hand the ornate Gothic script that was the
staple of religious discourse. A room in the monastery reserved for this
activity was called the scriptorium and here they not only transcribed
texts but provided "illumination"--elaborately conceived initial
letters, ornamental borders and gilded illustrations. Outstanding
examples of illuminated texts include the seventh and eighth century
works of the Irish School, particularly The Book of Kells and The
Lindisfarne Gospels. Production costs were quite high: an account roll
in Westminster Abbey records that one 14th century Mass book cost 35
pounds--the equivalent of several hundred pounds today--but of this the
scribe received only 4 pounds for two years' work and 1 pound for
clothing. Such books were, understandably, rarities and often chained to
the walls of the monastery.
The technique of illumination sought to release the light, the truth, of
a text from within. It was a light shone through the text, not on it.
The text thus appeared as the walls of a gothic church. These churches
were often made of porous stone which allowed light to filter through
the walls, the light of God was thus all about the parishioners, it did
not shine down on them from above but was the very medium through which

I have spent several days lecturing at the WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE on
"ASPARTAME marketed as 'NutraSweet', 'Equal', and 'Spoonful'. In the keynote
address by the EPA, they announced that there was an epidemic of multiple
sclerosis and systemic lupus, and they did not understand what toxin was
causing this to be rampant across the United States. I explained that I was
there to lecture on exactly that subject.

When the temperature of Aspartame exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in
ASPARTAME coverts to formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn
causes metabolic acidosis. (Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of
fire ants). The methanol toxicity mimics multiple sclerosis; thus people were
being diagnosed with having multiple sclerosis in error. The multiple
sclerosis is not a death sentence, where methanol toxicity is.

In the case of systemic lupus, we are finding it has become almost as rampant
as multiple sclerosis, especially among Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers.
Also, with methanol toxicity, victims usually drink three to four 12 oz. cans
of them per day, some even more. In the cases of systemic lupus, which is
triggered by ASPARTAME, the victim usually does not know that the ASPARTAME

played a soulful rendition of "America the Beautiful" as President Clinton
bid farewell Friday to members of the armed forces. "We live in peace, in no
small measure, because your courage and strength makes peace a wiser choice
than war," Clinton said. Eight years ago, Clinton began his presidency with
the controversial "don't ask-don't tell" policy on gays in the military. Late
Friday afternoon, he said goodbye to the troops, noting that his
administration had reversed a decade and a half decline in defense spending
and had obtained the largest single increase in military compensation in a
generation. The strength of the U.S. military is just as important in peace
as it is in war, Clinton said in a speech in a darkened auditorium at Fort
Myer where spotlights shone brightly on ceremonial guards from the Army,
Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and the Old Guard Fife and Drum
Corps. "No one can ever write a full account of the wars that were never
fought, the loses that were never suffered, the tears that were never shed
because the men and women of the United States military risked their lives
for peace," Clinton said at the armed forces full honor review ceremony for
the outgoing president. "None of us should every forget that." Clinton was
joined by Defense Secretary William Cohen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of
Staff Gen. Henry Shelton and 850 members of the military who filled the
bleachers of Conmy Hall. The auditorium was hushed in silence as the
president, with a stone-faced expression, reviewed the troops that stood
stiffly at attention. The president said the work of the troops has helped
build a more united Europe and foster peace on the Korean peninsula and a
climate of reconciliation across the last dividing line of the Cold War. He
said troops in the Persian Gulf have helped keep Iraq from regaining its
capability to threaten the world or its neighbors with weapons of mass
destruction. "Thanks to you, arm-in-arm with an expanded NATO, ethnic
cleansing and slaughter in the former Yugoslavia, in Bosnia and Kosovo has
ended," Clinton said. "Refugees have returned to their homes. Freedom has a
chance to flower." After he spoke, each unit paraded before the reviewing
stand as the U.S. Marine Band played the theme songs for each of the five
armed services. Afterward, the band played "Stars and Stripes Forever" and a
relaxed rendition of "America the Beautiful." Clinton smiled and gently
rocked his head as Staff Sgt. Gregory Ridlington of Spokane, Wash., played a
solo on his saxophone.

Interesting!  What I can't figure out is why no scientist seems to
address the issue of the clone being carried by different wombs.
Science has shown that as soon as an egg and a sperm join that chemical
messages immediately begin to be sent back and forth between the
mother's brain and the zygote.  It is, apparently, a two-way process,
and the mother's brain is changed permanently - even after the birth of
the baby.  I think I posted that research here.  Anyway, it seems to me
to have a 'pure' clone, the clone would have to be born of the same
woman who bore the original, and in a perfect world, as close to time as
possible as the original.  Why are scientists silent on the role that
'mother' or 'host' or 'rented womb' plays?  It seems common sense that
the mother's body and physical condition will have an impact on the
developing clone.  So I think you are right, JC - perhaps one of them
would dye their hair blonde and perhaps start up a rock and roll or hip
hop band.

Nature seems to have a way of sneaking around the machinations of

 photograph the lines of defense and deployments.
 Then the airmen began carrying pistols and rifles
 in their airplanes and they would take shots at
 the enemy aircraft. A little later, they began
 carrying bombs (some weighing up to 25 pounds),
 and hand dropping them on the enemy troops below.
 It wasn't long before airplanes became weapons
 of war.

Bottom line is this: The militarization of space
is already well underway and it will accelerate.

Human cloning within reach, experts say

NEW YORK, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Imagine if someone took a scraping of Michael
Jordan's skin cells and cloned a whole team of basketball players who
could win the NCAA championship every year.

Such a scenario has struck both imagination and fear into the debate on
human cloning, sparked after Dolly the lamb was cloned from an adult
sheep in 1997.

But reproductive experts and bioethicists now agree that it is unlikely
that an army of clones will be created. It is more likely, some say,
that cloning will be used by infertile couples wanting to create a
genetically related child or those wishing to clone a lost loved one.

They say the technology already exists to clone a human, and somewhere
in the world right now, someone probably is doing just that, if they
haven't already done it.

That's the contention of an article in the February issue of Wired
magazine, which will hit the newsstands on Jan. 11.

"If cloning has not happened already, it's going to happen very soon,
and the world ought to get over it," said Brian Alexander, author of the
article entitled (You)2 [You-squared].

Alexander told United Press International that his original feeling that
cloning may be freakish and scary was dispelled during his interviews
with experts in human in vitro fertilization and animal reproduction.
Armies of drones won't come into being, he said, because while clones
will carry the same genetic makeup as their parents, they will be quite
different in their behavior and preferences.

"You could clone Michael Jordan and get tall people, but the clones may
not like basketball or even be able to play," he said.

Because of the heated moral and ethical debates on human cloning, work
on the first human clone likely will remain secret, Alexander contends.
Indeed, his article also takes us into the vast underground of anonymous
scientists, religious sects and Web sites like humancloning.org that
support human cloning.

Alexander interviewed an unnamed molecular biologist in the United
States who wants to be the first person to create a human clone. He also
interviewed an unnamed potential client, a businessman living in Western
Europe who lost his son to disease more than a year ago, but who kept
tissues from the body.

The plan is for the scientist and father to fly to an in vitro
fertilization lab in Asia, where the lab's director could potentially
take out the nuclei of eggs obtained from anonymous donors and inject
the son's cells into the eggs to make embryos. Those embryos would be
implanted into five to 10 surrogate mothers in the hope that one of the
eggs would develop into a clone of the client's son.

This is all technically possible, although money and experimentation so
far have kept it from happening, Alexander said. There are very few
regulations on in vitro fertilization. Only a few countries in the
world, including Japan and some European nations but not the United
States, have banned human cloning.

Another group claiming to be working on the first human clone is the
Raelians, a New Age religious group in Quebec that has announced a human
cloning project called Clonaid. Last year the sect said they'd found an
American couple willing to pay $500,000 to clone their dead baby.

This kind of talk remains spine-chilling to many people. But Alexander
contends that such "under-the-radar pro-cloning agitation" is converging
with falling taboos and scientific advances such as DNA microarrays that
can more accurately isolate viable cloned embryos. "Human cloning could
be done tomorrow," he quotes Alan Trounson, an animal cloner and in
vitro fertilization clinician at Australia's Monash University, as
saying.

"All the pieces are out there to do it, so why wouldn't someone do it by
now," Michael Bishop, president of cattle cloning company Infigen Inc.
of DeForest, Wis., told UPI. "I think the public is becoming more
comfortable with the idea of cloning. They are not gasping for air the
way they used to with Dolly."

Author Alexander likens the feelings about human cloning to the
horrified and concerned reactions in 1978 to Louise Brown, the first
test-tube baby, who was born in Britain.

And he points out in his article that the subject of human cloning is no
longer so taboo. Noted scientists, philosophers and authors, including
biologist Edward O. Wilson of Harvard University and novelist Kurt
Vonnegut, have signed the "Declaration in Defense of Cloning and the
Integrity of Scientific Research," a document supporting reasoned
argument on cloning. And Rabbi Michael Broyde of Emery University in
Atlanta wrote an article in the journal Jewish Law about the possible
place of cloning in Jewish tradition.

stated that they were putting out disinformation. Needless to say, I was
attacked by certain people, via emails and on their webpage. I chose not to
respond to the attacks because I was afraid that if an Internet war about who
was telling the truth about Promis erupted, that the REAL TRUTH might never
be told.

The REAL STORY had finally been written.

I am including the first part of a four part series. It is extremely well
researched and written. The writing style flows easily and reads like a spy
thriller.

Insight uncovers a spy probe in the United States by the Canadian government
into the theft of computer software that allegedly allows surveillance of
top-secret government computer systems.

Good morning, Mr. McDade. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police has reason to
believe that the national security of Canada has been compromised. A trojan
horse, or back door, allegedly has been found in computer systems in the
nation's top law-enforcement and intelligence organizations.


   "Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to establish whether
this is the PROMIS software reportedly stolen in the early 1980s from William
and Nancy Hamilton, owners of Inslaw Inc., and reportedly modified for
international espionage. As always, should you or any of your associates be
caught, the governments of Canada and the United States will disavow any
knowledge of your actions. This recording will self-destruct in five seconds.
Good luck, Sean."


   Sounds like the opening taped message from an episode of the 1960s TV
action series Mission Impossible. But just such a mission was offered - and
accepted - by two investigators of the National Security Section of the Royal
Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The Mounties then covertly entered the United
States in February of last year and for nearly eight months conducted a
secret investigation into the theft of the PROMIS software and whether and by
whom it had been obtained for backdoor spying. PROMIS is a universal bridge
to the forest of computer systems. It allows covert and undetectable
surveillance, and it and its related successors are unimaginably important in
the new age of communications warfare.


   In this exclusive investigative series Insight tracks the Mounties and
explores the mysteries pursued by the RCMP, including allegations involving a
gang of characters believed to be associated with the suspected theft of
PROMIS, swarms of spies (or the "spookloop" as the Mounties called them), the
Mafia, big-time money laundering, murder, international arms smuggling and
illegal drugs - to name but a few aspects of the still-secret RCMP probe.


   But the keystone to this RCMP investigation is PROMIS, that universal
bridge and monitoring system, which stands for Prosecutor's Management
Information System - a breakthrough computer software program originally
developed in the early 1970s by the Hamiltons for case management by U.S.
prosecutors. The first version of PROMIS was owned by the government since
the development money was provided by the Department of Justice (DOJ), but
something went awry on the way to proprietary development.


   For more than 15 years the story of the allegedly pirated Hamilton
software, and how it may have wound up in the hands of the spy agencies of
the world, has been hotly pursued by law-enforcement agencies, private
detectives, journalists, congressional investigators, U.S. Customs and
assorted U.S. attorneys. Even independent researchers have taken on the role
of counterespionage agents in a quest to uncover the truth about this
allegedly ongoing penetration of security.


   But each new U.S. investigation has failed fully to determine what

routinely harrasing me, throwing me offline and admitting it is due to the
content of my articles, all of which are attacks on Bush.


Clearly, my website -- which has no ads and no solicitations -- is not
commerical. Two days before they threw me off because a censor they claimed
was in the Philipines objected to my article, "Why Is ABCTV Lying About Mad
Cow Disease?":

THE VENONA SECRETS: Exposing Soviet Espionage and Americo's Traitors.
Herbert Romerstein and Eric Breindel. Regnery. 608 pp. $29.95.

If book publishing were subject to truth-in-labeling laws-a concept
we should all abominate-Herbert Romerstein would be in serious trouble.
First, this book presents itself as jointly written by Romerstein, a
veteran federal investigator of Soviet activities in the United States, and
the late New York Post editorial-page editor Eric Breindel.  But I could
find no evidence whatever of textual input by Breindel in this volume, which
appears two and a half years after he
died.  Love him or hate him (and I am fairly certain most Nation readers
fall in the latter category), Breindel was a working journalist who knew how
to write.  However, this production is so leaden, prosaic and perfunctory it
is hard to imagine a professional
scribe having had anything to do with it.  It reads like a printout of
several government reports, strung together.
Further, it offers very little that is new about the Venona program,
a US-run interception and decryption of some 2,900 secret
Soviet communications originally transmitted in the 1940s.  Nearly
everything important to be said about this phenomenon, from an anti-Soviet
perspective, was published in Venona: Decoding Soviet Espionage in America,
a meticulous and detailed examination by the historians John Earl Haynes and
Harvey Klehr, issued by Yale University Press in 1999 [see Walter Schneir
and Miriam Schneir, "Cables Coming in From the Cold," July 5, 1999].
This is not to say there is nothing new or interesting in this book.
In addition to Venona, Romerstein has trolled through other US files, as
well as the "MASK" decryptions, Soviet communications captured by the
British intelligence before World War II, and he has dipped into Soviet and
East German archives, although in a haphazard way.  But because Romerstein's
approach is only thorough in certain instances, he leaves some useful items
hanging, unelucidated.
One of these involves the disappear-
 ance, in Barcelona during the Spanish Civil
 War, of Mark Rein, son of the exiled Rus-
 sian Menshevik Rafail Abramovich.  Rein
 was associated with Scandinavian social
 democracy when he vanished in wartime
 Catalonia.  His case is one of a short list
 of unsolved atrocities alleged against the
 Soviet secret police on Spanish Republi-
 can territory.  According to Romerstein,
 Rein may have been betrayed to Stalin's
 agents by a German leftist named Paul
 Hagen.  A footnote discloses that sources
 on the Rein affair may be found in the Ger-
 man Communist Party Archives. (Hagen is
 discussed in a recent work that, although
 self-published, is written to a high stand-
 ard and is of considerable interest, Wilhelm
 Reich and the Cold War, by Jim Martin.

 But Romerstein handles this revelation-
 which, although significant, has very
 little to do with Venona-in a sloppy
 and incomplete way because such epi-
 sodes, and indeed, Venona itself, are
 not what really interests him. Romerstein
 is a man of obsessions, and his obsessions
 are familiar to Nation readers.  The main
 example in this book involves his crusade
 to incriminate the journalist I.F. Stone as
 a Soviet spy.
Romerstein has previously been burned
 by this topic [see D.D. Guttenplan, "Izzy an
 Agent?" August 3/10, 1992; Romerstein's
 letter in response and Guttenplan's "Stone
 Untumed," September 28, 1992; and Wal-
 ter Schneir and Miriam Schneir's "Stone
 Miscast," November 4, 1996].  But caution
 and precision are not his touchstones, as
 his argument on Stone exemplifies.
As shown in the Venona messages,
 Stone rebuffed Soviet attempts to enlist
 him, although one Soviet report states that
 the journalist "would not be averse to hav-
 ing a supplementary income." However,
 there is no evidence that any money ever
 changed hands or that Stone was alluding
 to anything other than, for example, Soviet
 translation and publication of his work by
 the news agency TASS, which was the
 cover under which some agents in New
 York worked.  Haynes and Klehr dealt with
 Stone's appearance in these messages
 with laudable objectivity, declaring, "There
 is no evidence in Venona that Stone ever
 was recruited by the KGB."
Yet Romerstein seems determined to
 smear Stone whether or not he can prove
 his charges.  According to him, an NKVD
 "business" relationship with Stone "worked
 out" when at the end of 1944 "a group of
 journalists, including Stone, provided [So-
 viet spy Vladimir] Pravdin with informa-
 tion" about US military plans in fighting

 Analysis

On Jan. 11 the Commission to Assess U.S. National Security Space
   Management and Organization is to release its findings after more than a
   year of study. Established by members of Congress concerned that
   preparations for the space age are inadequate, the commission has the
   potential to forcefully and immediately impact American policy.

  The commission was led by Donald Rumsfeld, President-elect George W.
  Bushs nominee for secretary of defense, who has pledged to make the
  defense of space assets a top priority. The commission will find the new
  U.S. administration highly receptive to accelerating the space race with
  military projects and government-assisted programs for civilian purposes.

  The trend toward a larger international presence in space, and the
  associated risks that come with heavy reliance on space systems, has
  moved the United States closer than ever  both politically and
  technologically  to crossing the boundary between using space to support
  military operations and making space a combat zone. The incoming U.S.
 administration, and its unfolding world view, will run right up against this
  sacrosanct boundary in international relations and may even cross it,
  irreversibly altering the strategic landscape.

Reliance on space for communications, navigation, reconnaissance, weather
prediction and a host of other disciplines is growing by leaps and bounds,
fueling billions of dollars in investment around the world  $100 billion in
investment by the United States alone. At least 1,500 new satellites will be
launched internationally over the next decade to add to the estimated 600
now in orbit.

 Many advances in space technology are now being spearheaded outside
 the United States. The United States has developed only one new booster
 rocket in the last 20 years, while Russia has developed and tested more
 than 140. In other areas, such as the satellite surveillance and space
 exploration, countries like Russia, China, Japan and India are doing a good
 job of keeping pace with the United States.

 China, for example, plans this year to place a human in orbit for the first
 time and recently launched a high-resolution commercial imaging satellite.

Japan, meanwhile, has embarked on a satellite reconnaissance program of
its own that will give its military greater autonomy from the United States.

This highly competitive environment in the space industry has coincided with
 and at the same time fueled  growing American military anxiety that new
technologies becoming widely available will seriously endanger space
operations.

This includes anti-satellite laser weapons and new computer tools to disrupt
or corrupt satellite data. Russia is believed to have developed anti-satellite
weapons, while China is said to be aggressively pursuing them. The United
States will redouble its efforts to develop anti-satellite weapons as Russia
and Chinas space programs grow.

Protecting our ability to launch and operate satellites  and denying an
enemy the same ability  could be pivotal to the success of future U.S.
military operations, according to the U.S. Space Command mission
statement. The increasing reliance of joint forces on space means we must
achieve space superiority in times of conflict. Likewise, we must be able to
preserve civil and commercial access to space.

as 28 percentage points.  A comparison of today's Gallup poll with the previous
two weeks, shows a clear increase in support for Sharon:
Dec 22, 2000:   Barak 28% Sharon 46%
Dec 29, 2000:   Barak 24% Sharon 45%
Jan 5, 2001:Barak 22% Sharon 50%

The above figures include the Arab vote.  Amongst the Jewish-only vote, the poll
shows Barak with 22%, and Sharon with 55%. A Dahaf poll published today indicated
a smaller gap: Barak 32% Sharon 50%.  A third poll carried out by the
Geocartographic
Institute, which will be published tomorrow night, indicates a wide gap, closer
to the Gallup poll.

  Not to get paranoid, but tis interesting.

The hosting company was sold a few months ago. Dramatically improved some
aspects. But they have interestingly tossed me off for "non-payment" late
Friday night and gone home for the weekend. Now I paid the bill $77 on
12/6/00, invoice# 6818, by CC and was accepted and posted on CC bill
recently.  They sent me an email about two weeks ago saying they were gonna
shut me down in 5 days if I didn't pay. I emailed them the date and invoice#
and never heard back. It  crossed my mind Thursday, that I hadn't heard back
from them, but I didn't contact them. I guess I maybe should have.

I have called and and sent emails, hopefully by Monday, they will see the
errors of their way.

VOTER FRAUD

Hands down, the biggest  and most underreported  story of 2000
was voter fraud.

As WorldNetDaily Editor Joseph Farah wrote in "Voter fraud
epidemic," "Voter fraud is epidemic throughout the country. From
Miami to L.A., elections have been won and lost because of illegal
voter registration and phony ballot counts. No wonder fewer and
fewer people are bothering to vote. What's the point? Elections are
being rigged. The fix is in. The sanctity of the American electoral
system is not under attack, it is under siege."

An exclusive WND investigation revealed that President Bill Clinton
and the California Democratic Party conspired to mail non-citizens
and non-eligible voters bogus "Voter Identification Cards" to make it
easier for them to cast ballots.

In Florida, Haitian voters were intimidated and coerced by Gore
supporters to vote for the Democratic candidate.

In Wisconsin, the votes of homeless people were purchased for
packs of cigarettes.

In some predominantly Democratic precincts in Texas, 125 percent
of registered voters cast ballots.

But perhaps the most deeply disturbing of all voter fraud stories to
emerge during the election season centered on the military.
Reports surfaced that entire units of U.S. servicemen overseas
were denied absentee ballots, preventing them from voting for their
next commander-in-chief. WorldNetDaily's Jon Dougherty was the
preeminent reporter nationally on this issue, and was first to sound
the alarm, even before the election ("Military missing absentee
ballots"), that a significant number of America's military service
personnel were not going to be able to vote in the closest  and by
many accounts the most important  election in memory.

CLINTON, GORE COMPLICITY IN OIL PRICE-HIKES
One of the giant stories of the year, by any news organization's
yardstick, was the unprecedented run-up in oil prices. All but
unreported, however, were some of the hidden, but very real,
reasons for the huge increases.

WorldNetDaily was virtually alone among the news media in
reporting how the Clinton administration clearly contributed to the
dramatic increase in oil prices. "Contradictory and self-serving
policies," reported Ken Timmerman in November, "led the Clinton-
Gore administration to cause the current skyrocketing oil prices,
say Middle East and petroleum industry analysts."
The former Time magazine correspondent showed how, "by
interfering in the oil markets in 1998 when prices were perceived by
some to be too low, the administration put into motion the huge
current run-up of prices, according to Matthew Simmons, who has
tracked oil prices for 30 years as the head of a Houston-based
investment bank, Simmons & Co. International.
Another WorldNetDaily report spotlighting Clinton's and Gore's
complicity in raising oil prices proved to be a blockbuster  featured
and discussed for several consecutive days on the Rush Limbaugh
show. In that story, Clinton approves oil-price hikes, WND
disclosed: "Oil ministers from OPEC nations have quietly told
national security advisers on Capitol Hill that the oil production
cutbacks -- and resulting price increases -- are being implemented
at the request of the Clinton administration on behalf of Russia,
Indonesia, Mexico and Iran.

"Russia, Mexico and Indonesia are reported to be directing their
increased oil profits toward paying back overdue Western loans,"
the article revealed. "According to one government defense adviser,
the windfall profits are part of a larger scheme to use the American
public to pay off failed and corrupt investment schemes in the three
countries."

THE REAL IMPACT OF CLINTON LAND GRABS

Roads across public lands in national forests are being quietly
closed to vehicles, horses, and even hikers. "Human exclusion
zones" is the official term. People are losing their homes and
livelihoods with scarcely a notice by the mass media. Entire
industries -- cattle grazing, timber cutting, mining -- are being shut
down in the name of protecting the environment from any use by
human beings, including recreation.

In 1996, President Clinton used the 1906 Antiquities Act to create
the designation of Utah's 1.7 million-acre Grand Staircase-
Escalante National Monument. Although no more of these
controversial monument designations were made for the next
several years, beginning last January -- toward the very end of his
second term as president -- Clinton began designating more
monuments in rapid succession: 10 new monuments in all in 2000.

TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY, N.C. - Along the long, twisting road through the Pisgah National Forest, the first sign that something is out of the ordinary is a line of giant transformers. Then, around the bend, a barbed-wire fence, guard shack and surveillance cameras protect what looks like nothing more than another hill of trees and dense shrubbery. It is anything but. This is the entrance to one of the National Security Agency's former spy stations, a place shrouded in secrets and denials, the source of local lore that seems right out of "X-Files." What is inside that giant geodesic dome that looks like a golf ball? Where do the tunnels snaking beneath the 202-acre site lead? Why are the rugs welded to the floors of the windowless buildings? Few people have been beyond these gates, deep inside the Appalachian Mountains, 50 miles southwest of Asheville. The NSA abandoned the site to the U.S. Forest Service five years ago, leaving b!
ehind a deserted minicity in the middle of nowhere. Now, some of the secrets are being revealed. Last year, with the base boarded up and close to demolition, the property was transferred to a group of astronomers in exchange for a piece of land in western North Carolina. Over the past year, they have begun piecing together the site's past. "There are things on this site you will never see anywhere else," said site manager Jim Powers. "I've never had someone come here that wasn't blown away." The astronomers, who formed the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute, were attracted by two 85-foot satellites dishes on the site - some of the largest in the country - which could be repositioned to catch deep-space radio signals and allow them to study the life and death of stars. When the group arrived in January 1999, they expected a basic, albeit large, government facility, but as the weeks passed they realized little about the sit!
e was what it appeared. As they began to install their computers, they found hundreds of miles of top-of-the-line cabling running under every floor. They discovered that the self-contained water and sewer treatment plant could handle tens of thousands of gallons of water at a time and the generator could produce 235 kilowatts of energy - powerful enough to light up a small city. In a basement room of one of the larger buildings, they found the entrance to a 1,200-foot tunnel system that connects two of the site's main buildings. Every inch of floor in more than four buildings was covered with two-by-two-foot squares of bleak brown carpet. When the astronomers tried to replace it, they discovered it was welded with tiny metal fibers to the floor. The result, they eventually realized, is that the rugs prevent the buildings from conducting static electricity. Even the regular lighting looks different, covered by sleek metal grids th!

Jan 6, 2001 -- (Reuters) President Bill Clinton, in his waning days in office, has ordered a retooling of the country's counterintelligence efforts to take account of new espionage threats and protect the private sector, the White House said on Friday.
The order will establish a new top government position -- a national counterintelligence executive charged with overseeing activities between the FBI, CIA and other agencies, and making sure they have enough money.
White House National Security Council spokesman P.J. Crowley said Clinton signed the order in late December with a view toward addressing a changing espionage environment in which computer hackers can steal government and corporate secrets.
"Before, you were worried about foreign intelligence services that might be operational out of embassies here in the United States. Now you have to worry about getting hacked by someone who is trying to glean information that we need to protect," he said.
Clinton leaves office on Jan. 20. President-elect George W. Bush's spokesman, Ari Fleischer, declined to comment on the order, which Bush could decide to change after taking office.
The national executive job is similar to that of the national drug control policy director, which coordinates anti-drug activities among various agencies and lobbies for funding for the effort on Capitol Hill.
Crowley said the executive would work not only within the government but with the private sector "to make sure we understand potential threats to technology and infrastructure."
The executive, unlikely to be named before Clinton leaves office, would have no role in investigations.
U.S. officials have long worried about the possibility of a terrorist attack on the country's electricity grid or telephone systems. Protecting company research and development secrets has increasingly been viewed as a priority in the government.
DEFINE CROWN JEWELS
A key goal of the new office would be to identify the most precious items for the protection of U.S. national security, that if stolen or tampered with could be disastrous.
"The first element will be understanding what is truly the crown jewel rather than costume jewelry," a senior U.S. intelligence official told Reuters on condition of anonymity.
For example it could be the sophisticated W-88 nuclear warhead, a secret policy stating the "real intentions" of the United States in some realm, and disruption of the Middle East peace process, the official said.
In the private sector it could be the need to maintain U.S. dominance in the world of information technology, he added.
"It's a much broader concept than simply what are hostile intelligence services doing to us?" the official said. "What is so important to us that it must not be damaged?"
The government last year drew fire for its handling of Taiwanese-born Los Alamos scientist Wen Ho Lee, who was never charged with spying and was freed from jail in September 2000 after pleading guilty to one count of downloading nuclear weapons design secrets to a non-secure computer.
The new office was not created in response to Lee or past espionage cases, but rather to shift from a predominant focus on hostile nations which "in today's world ... is going to miss more than it's going to get," the intelligence official said.
"The FBI surveilling the Russian embassy is a good thing, we ought to keep doing it, but to think that that was 98 percent of your defense is crazy," he said.
For example in the 1999 case of the Russian diplomat accused of monitoring an eavesdropping device planted in the State Department, the new counterintelligence executive might have checked to see whether the U.S. military or another agency had some interest in feeding him information before arresting him, the official said.
The new counterintelligence executive's office would replace the National Counterintelligence Center, which was instituted after the 1994 arrest of a CIA officer, Aldrich Ames, who was later convicted of spying for Moscow.

An unconfirmed report that Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein suffered a stroke while observing a military parade in Baghdad on 31 December has focused attention once more on what would happen if he dies or becomes physically incapacitated -- even though claims that Saddam is seriously ill have long been denied by Iraq.

The most likely scenario is that the Iraqi leader would be succeeded by his mercurial younger son Qusay, who heads Iraq's elaborate security apparatus. However, Saddam's other son Uday, who was partially disabled after being shot in an assassination attempt in 1996, is also considered to be hungry for power. There are others -- relatives of Saddam or belonging to his inner circle -- who, it is thought, would also seek to take the top job if the opportunity arose.

Developments in Baghdad are being closely monitored by the Iraqi opposition. Dissidents hope that the death or serious illness of Saddam could trigger a violent struggle for power among those presently close to the leader. Their hope is that the ensuing instability would in turn encourage a coup by senior military officers that would mark the end of the Saddam dynasty. A military coup is what the US Central Intelligence Agency has sought to foment in Baghdad.

The problem with this scenario is that the regime may already have taken steps to ensure that there is a relatively smooth hand-over of power when Saddam bows out. On 14 April the newspaper Al-Watan Al-Arabi published a report claiming that Saddam had held a meeting of those closest to him and that he had decreed that Qusay was to be his successor. According to the story, those present included Uday; Saddam's powerful secretary, Abd Hamid Mahmoud; Saddam's cousin and main 'enforcer', the ruthless Ali Hassan Majid; and three tribal leaders from Saddam's home area of Tikrit. It was reported that they all declared their allegiance to Saddam's chosen successor.

It has been believed for some time that Saddam, now 63, has had health problems. Last September there was an unconfirmed report that he was suffering from lymphatic cancer and that he had appointed a family council under Qusay to run the nation's affairs if he became incapacitated. A report in the London-based newspaper Al-Sharq Al-Awsat claimed that among those attending the family meeting that set up the council were Saddam's three half-brothers, Barzan, Watban and Sab'awi. The newspaper also said that a special security committee headed by Abd Hamid Mahmoud had decided that only non-Iraqi doctors should treat Saddam.

Barzan and his brothers were effectively sidelined by Saddam so that his own sons would have an unimpeded rise to power. Sources say that Barzan, who was recalled in 1999 from his post as Iraq's ambassador to the UN in Geneva, deeply resents his treatment and that he may well be a contender to succeed Saddam, although he may lack the power base from which to launch an effective challenge. It is believed that Ali Hassan Majid, who led the bloody 'Anfal' campaign against the Kurds in the late 1980s, would also like to be leader, but would settle for a position of power under Qusay.

In a recent interview for Jane's, Dr Salah Shaikhly of the Iraqi National Congress (INC), the opposition umbrella group, said he believed it was most likely that the regime had drawn up plans to ensure that Qusay took over the reins of power when Saddam died or stepped down. "It is not something they would leave to chance," he said. Nevertheless, he believed that the departure of Saddam could spark an inter-family feud over the succession and that this could de-stabilise the regime, providing an opportunity for the army to take power.

Dr Hamid Al-Bayati, of the Iraqi dissident movement the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI), also expressed the view in a recent Jane's interview that the demise of Saddam could produce considerable disorder at the top. "When Saddam dies, there will be in-fighting," he predicted. "There could be feuding involving the two sons and Saddam's half-brothers."

Meanwhile, the Sunni-dominated regime faces resentment from many other elements who would be only too glad to see Saddam and his cronies lose their vice-like grip on power. The Shias in the south and the Kurds in the north have bitter memories of Saddam's repression. There is believed to be unrest among senior army officers and even among some of the Sunni tribal leaders on whom Saddam traditionally relied for support as a result of seeing friends, comrades and relatives executed by a paranoid regime. There is thought to be deep resentment even among Saddam's paternal cousins' family, the Majids, following the brutal murder of returned defector Hussein Kamil (Saddam's son-in-law) and other family members at Saddam's behest. i agree in principle that  the song's raison d'etre is to promote lsd and

John Sweeney for shaking down workers to fund his political activism.
The AFL-CIO brass are hoping the public will ignore how they've
viciously terrorized employees for refusing to join a union or support

step up its free legal aid program to meet the growing demands of
union-abused employees. According to a recent poll, 62 percent of
AFL-CIO members oppose Sweeney's spending of their hard-earned wages for
politics.

taking place under his reign:

Burton Ayres, 21-year Army veteran - Johnson Controls, Inc. fired him at
the demand of union officials for not paying for the union's political

committee assures "job security."

Rod Carter, UPS Driver - Teamsters thugs -- shouting racial epithets --
drew him from the safety of his UPS truck, beat him senseless, and
stabbed him multiple times for supporting his family by working during a
strike.
Patrick Quick, print shop employee - The local union was prosecuted for
unfair labor practices when its officials sued and harassed Quick, a
former union president, for exercising his right not to pay forced union
dues for politics.
Tens-of-Thousands of California Public Higher Education Employees -
Under a law signed by California Governor Davis, thousands of
California's higher education employees are now forced to pay compulsory
union dues for politics and lobbying as a condition of employment.
"If AFL-CIO union boss John Sweeney is so concerned about telling the
'truth,' then it's time for him to fess up to Big Labor's campaign of
terror against employees who exercise their right not to pay forced
union dues for politics," said Foundation President Reed Larson.

Minister survives thrombosis air ordeal

An MP who nearly died from the so-called economy-class syndrome wants the Howard 
Government to ban international airlines that fail to install gymnasium-style walking 
machines in jumbo jets.

Labor's long-time member for the federal Victorian seat of Burke and transport policy 
specialist, Neil O'Keefe, said he almost died in a Brazilian hospital in November 
after suffering a seizure on a flight from Sydney.

Mr O'Keefe was rushed to the Camara dos Deputados hospital in Brazilia in a critical 
condition after developing a potentially lethal deep-vein thrombosis (DVT) in his leg 
while travelling as part of a parliamentary delegation to South America.

The MP believes that his daily dose of aspirin, prescribed for another condition, 
saved his life by keeping his blood thin during the ordeal.

DVT usually affects the legs or pelvis, but if clots move through the bloodstream, 
often fatal pulmonary embolisms obstruct lung blood vessels.

Mr O'Keefe supports claims that some airlines have ignored or even covered up the 
incidence of passengers dying or falling critically ill from blood clots after long 
flights.

He said evidence suggest-ed that DVT was a big safety problem for the air industry.

During weeks recuperating in the United States and Europe, Mr O'Keefe learnt that a 
House of Lords inquiry had been set up after a British MP suffered the same fate on a 
flight to New Zealand in 1999.

Late last year, a 28-year-old British bride-to-be, Emma Christofferson, collapsed at 
Heathrow Airport minutes after stepping off a 23-hour flight from Australia and died 
on the way to hospital. Publicity about her death led to a flood of revelations about 
other British cases. Now a reported 700 people have come forward in Australia, 
prompting Melbourne law firm Slater and Gordon to consider a class action.

"I thought I was an isolated case," Mr O'Keefe said. "Then I discovered the House of 
Lords inquiry and now Slater and Gordon have 700 cases. Heaven knows how many there 
may be around the world."

A House of Lords report, published in November and produced by the UK Science and 
Technology Committee, concedes that experts are arguing about the DVT risk in flying. 
It is possible the risk may be low for healthy people.

Big airlines have rushed to commission scientific surveys, arguing that the evidence 
is equivocal and that the DVT risk is greater in long-distance car and train travel. 
No one disputes that some people may have a high DVT risk.

But the race is now on to quantify the specific risk in aircraft.

If Bell's personal situation was such as to demand his total attention, he would have

length of time, but that he'd endeavor to return ASAP.  By announcing that he was

You're quite right. I had never heard of this person before you mentioned 'her' (and 
here was poor ignorant, historically illiterate I thinking that Merlin was a man's 
name). Let me know what book/s has she written and I will look it up. To be honest,

the federal government Thursday for requiring Michigan residents to give Social 
Security numbers to get or renew their driver's licenses. States are 
required to collect the numbers from licensed drivers to help track deadbeat 
parents. Secretary of State Candice Miller said the requirement violates 
the privacy of Michigan's 6.9 million licensed drivers. ''I will not sit 
idly by while residents' privacy is invaded by an intrusive, ineffective and 
unfunded mandate,'' Miller said. Michigan is the only state not 
complying with the requirement that took effect in October, said Pam Carter of 
the U.S. Health Department. The state could lose about $900 million 
annually in federal money if it fails to comply with the requirement. But Miller 
said the lawsuit will not hurt the state's federal money. Michigan 
already has a database system more efficient and effective than one that would 
use Social Security numbers, the lawsuit says. Gov. John Engler does not 
support Miller's lawsuit, spokesman John Truscott said.

Maybe. Maybe not. Either way, its irrelevant.

What is relevant is that shes a historian with a strong background in
archeology and presents a good case well.

But you wouldnt know that, because you didnt bothered to read what she
had to say before you started to talk about it.

And your own life? Has it been written down? No? Why should I believe
you exist, then, or that anything you say is true?

Just because something is written down does not in and of itself mean it
is true. Just because something is not written down does not, in and of
itself, mean it is not true.

In addition to written records we must consider oral tradition and the
physical evidence in the archeological record. But you would know this
if you had bothered to read Stone and Gimbutas before you started
spouting off about their work.  You havent even bothered to look at the
pictures. Yet you are telling what is and is not contained there. Can
you even imagine how incredibly stupid this make you look?

Perhaps they do. Perhaps they do not. Either way, you dont know because
you have not examined what is purported to be the evidence in question.
If you had examined the purported evidence you would perhaps be able to
rebut it a piece at a time. Or perhaps you wouldnt. But you dont even
know what the purported evidence is, let alone whether its real or not,
and if it is,  whether their interpretation of it is is valid. This is
appalling scholarship on your part. You have a lot of nerve criticizing
anybody elses scholarship at all, especially in a field with which you
are so obviously unfamiliar. 

Maybe youre right. Maybe Stone, Gimbutas, et al are totally wrong. But
maybe youre wrong. Either way, youre guessing. Thats not how scholars
do it. Scholars do not draw conclusions  out of thin air, just to suit
some preconceived notion that have. Scholars at the very least read the
literature in field before they draw even the most tentative
conclusions, let alone spout off about them in public. The very best
scholars do their own field research, gather empirical data themselves,
and draw conclusions from that. Gimbutas dug all her life. Have you ever
been on a dig? I doubt it sincerely. You never even bothered to read the
literature. You apparently never even did a preliminary lit. search. And
yet youre telling us about archeology just as if you actually expected
us to assume that you know what youre talking about. What is the matter
with you? Do you take us for fools?  

You must. You read, by your own admission, a part of a book by Gardner,
you dont even know Merlin Stones gender, and yet you expect us to
believe you know enough about the history of Goddess worship as to be
qualified to pass judgment on  scholars  in the field.  Do you even know
what the word scholarship means?

Because I bothered to research the subject before I started talking
about it.  This is the preferred technique. It doesnt always work. But
usually it does, and no other technique works ever.

Some religions are defined by the structures they build, and the texts
they write. Others are not. Some religions are practiced by peoples who
neither  build nor write. Others still are practiced by people who both
build and write, but not within the context of their religion. 

You are apparently only familiar with a handful of religions. There are
hundreds of religions. They vary considerably.  I suggest that you read
up on the subject. Take a couple courses if you have to. Familiarize
yourself with the subject thoroughly enough as to not to appall us with
your ignorance. Then come back here and tell us about it. I cannot
stress too strongly the importance of doing these things in the correct
order.  First learn. Then teach. Thats how its done.

This is quite simply untrue. There are numerous books on both the
history and dogma of polytheism written in both Latin and Greek. It
appears to have been a favored subject. If you read neither language,
avail yourself of these works in translation. They are available at any
library. If you cant find them, ask the guy at the desk for help.
Thats what hes paid for.
