[slim] alienBBC stream gets wrong name as favourite under SC 7.3
Hi all, my first teething problem after installing SC 7.3 last night. I can add an AlienBBC stream to favourites with my SB remote, but in the favourites list it just ends up named as Favourite... a bit confusing with more than one! I don't mind manually editing a favourites file as a quick fix, if that is a feasible way to do it... if someone could tell me how! [slim] Transporter FW71 digital inputs and favourites
I wasn't sure whether to add this to the digital inputs bug 4834 or if it is not related. It may well be finger trouble on my part. I have a CD using RCA coax input and favourite set to select it by pressing and holding 0. Once working - it is fine - I can go back and forth between library and CD (digial input). After a power cycle or SC restart it won't work. The favourite selects the digital input - but no sound. If you go into the digital inputs menu, the wrong input has been selected (not RCA coax). Manually change to this input and it is fine. It seems like the favourite does not completely select digital inputs, RCA coax - just digital inputs. The favourite is file:///D:/shares/Music/playlists/cd%20player%20direct%20to%20lounge.m3u The playlist it refers contains the url source:rca-spdif Have I done anything wrong here? [slim] SB3 can not connect to 2nd router when using 2 routers
Hi - I have a (not very good) SpeedTouch router which my ISP requires me to use. I hook a LinkSys WRT54GX into the SppedTouch via the NET socket. Both routers have the same WEP key. On the secondary LinkSys router I set Internet connection type to Auto config DHCP and I also disable DHCP Server since I gather the SpeedTouch will perform this task. This all works fine. My wireless laptop connects to the LinkSys, and my main desktop and a network drive that are wired into the LinkSys work. However the SB3 will only connect to the SpeedTouch. When I try to connect to the LinkSys all works until I select Obtain IP address automatically on the SB3. It then looks for one and finally says Couldn't find DHCP server and Go right to self-assign an IP address. Not sure what to do here, but it also seems very odd that my laptop happily connects to the LinkSys. Re: [slim] SB3 can not connect to 2nd router when using 2 routers
Don't quite understand your wiring. What is the net socket. And where are you plugging the other end of that wire into the linksys. The correct way to use a router (linksys) as an access-point and switch is to. 1. Give it an address on the network implemented by the router that is different from the router and NOT in the router DHCP range. xxx.xxx.xxx.2 is a standard choice. 2. Turn off DHCP. 3. Set its wireless config the same as the router - with either the same or a different channel. I use different channel. 4. Connect an ether net wire from one of the lan ports on the router to one of the lan ports on the AP. The AP Wan port MUST NOT BE USED. You should be able to reach the config pages of the AP by using the address you gave it during the set up. -- Millwood 2 SB3, 1 Duet Debian Etch server 2 AP (netgear, linksys) wireless network. There's a fundamental difference between RF-based interfaces like the Squeezebox and Sonos controller units and interfaces based on physical buttons and IR remotes. With a nearby UI like the Boom knob or Classic UI, the pull sync model is more apt. It makes more sense to change what's playing on the nearby player than foist changes on a distant player. With roaming interfaces like the Controller, push makes more sense -- with RF-based UIs, the focus is the playlist, not the player. SqueezeCenter 7-7.2 got one thing right: each UI offered the most appropriate sync model for that UI. But it used the same simple word, sync, which made it confusing for those of us with both Controllers and Boom/Classic/Transporter units. 7.3 fixes the linguistic confusion, but the cost is awkwardness in the roaming interfaces, esp. the Controller, as switching between controlled players is still a little sluggish. Sonos has it easy, they only have roaming/RF. SqueezeCenter needs to address RF/web and IR/buttons. After running AAC, a folder is created in the same directory where the AAC application is located. This folder is named AlbumCatalogs. This folder contains 3 files: AlbumCatalog - Date - QuickRef.html AlbumCatalog - Date.html AlbumCatalog - Date.html.mht With my approx 1,000 album database the last file is around 4.5MB. This would seem to include the artwork images. Moving the AlbumCatalogs folder to any other location results is the vast majority of art not displaying, but some does. Performing a File Save As within a browser with the AlbumCatalog.html open creates a structure like so: Squeezebox Album Collection (by Artist).htm a folder name Squeezebox Album Collection (by Artist)_files. The folder contains all of the artwork images in the format folder(1).jpg. Again, opening Squeezebox Album Collection (by Artist).htm results in the same result, most art is not displayed. What I am try to achieve is a portable copy of the database as output by AAC complete with artwork. This would be useful to hold on a PDA (or similar device with a browser)to avoid duplicate purchases when browsing in a shop. -- rbz5416 rbz5416's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12089 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41597 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] iPeng Application 1.0 now on the App Store
pippin;377371 Wrote: Now wait a moment, that's a different issue and it only applies to the iPeng plugin before version 0.5. However, it's actually ONE of the reasons for the problems in 1.0.4. asymtot, you say it can't be the iPod because the iPod's iPod application (this naming convention is confusing...) doesn't show this problem. Well... that's not completely true. iPhone OS does have a standard control called UISlider that displays a nice slider which iPeng uses. It behaves completely different from the one iPod uses. I'm pretty sure Apple's iPod application uses something else. One of the diferences in behavior is, that UISlider will immediately move to any position on the slider bar where you touch it. Just like iPeng pre-0.5. In the beta test it came out that this is not acceptable and actually most iPhone apps don't behave like this. So iPeng captures only an area around the knob and you have to drag that one. It's not just the knob itself, it's a much bigger area but it captures there. Step in issue #2: The sensitivity of the iPhone screen close to the borders is limited, you can see this with other apps and other controls as well. This seems to be a software issue, actually, the problem seems to be that the screen is actually MORE sensitive close to the edges and the software compensates for that. This means, some touches close to the border are sometimes simply ignored, if iPhone decides they are accidental. Now step in iPeng: Due to it's layout, on iPeng the volume slider is actually CLOSER to the edge of the screen than with most other apps. The result is what you see. In my experience it helps to make sure you don't touch the screen with the fingers of the hand that holds the device (even outside the visible area) and especially not to rest a finger at the bottom of the device. I'm looking for solutions, but since increase capture area and move up detection chain to improve sensitivity are pretty much through, my current favorite is to swap the volume slider with the Power/Skip/Play buttons, those are bigger and a missed hit may not hurt as much. Opinions? Would it be possible to use the physical volume controls on the side of the ipod? -- asymtot asymtot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22368 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55514 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Many thanks for your help. I just looked again and I think that what you suggest is exactly what I have done. Ignore my NET socket comment - I have taken an ethernet wire from a LAN socket on one router to a LAN socket on the other router. The addresses of the two routers are 192.168.1.254 (Speedtouch) and 192.168.1.2 (linksys). DHCP Server is disabled. The setup must be pretty much correct since my laptop connects wirelesly without any trouble. Re: [slim] Rebuffering solved !!! Netgear XE102
I have the same Netgear powerline adapters which we use to get music out to a metal shed on the property. The instructions say specifically not to plug them into anything but direct into an outlet--no surge protector, not even an extension cord or outlet multiplier. In my house, I found that certain outlets worked and others still caused rebuffering, even plugging into the outlet directly. Re: [slim] Sync Interface Rant
PeterW, confusing to who? Did Logitech get compaints about the word sync un different intefaces? Hard to believe that csonsumers that have moved to the SBC will do a lot of, if any, syncing on the SB physical devices. For me it was a no-brainer switching between controller, web and SB2 units. Now I am more confused than ever - see my Study / Dining Room sync example. Seems as if the desire to have everything operate the same overrode common sense. Anyway, my only hope is that the future holds a remedy to this problem! -- morgan4x4 morgan4x4's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=243 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57660 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Sync Interface Rant
Excuse me while I spend a few minutes on a rant about the absurty of the new sync UI in 7.3+. First a bit about my setup - Nine zones controlled by SB2s and SBR's, and three controllers. On any given day I might add together the master bedroom and master bath, or alternativly let my wife sleep while listening in the bathroom. Sometimes I want all zones on for whole house, and other days a single zone in my office is all I need. Previously I simply checked boxes to bring players in and out of a zone. now I have to follow a sequence of switching players, then syncing, then switching players, then syncing, then switching player, then syncing - up to 8 times. Unsyncing is just as ridiculous. The Logitech folks claim this was all in the spirit of making things consistent across devices. Huh? You have now made if difficult across all interfaces! What a philosphy - make things more difficult just so they work the same. I do not understand this at all. Other quirks with the new interfact are just as interesting. An example: I have a sync'd zone, say study and dinig room. I start a song from the controller attached to study. I then go to synchronize, and remove the dining room from the sync group. Guess what - the study stops and the dining room continues playing! Huh? PLEASE make this useable - if you want to play in the same league as Sonos, you need to make bringing players on and off easy! Many thanks! -- morgan4x4 morgan4x4's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=243 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57660 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Rebuffering solved !!! Netgear XE102
Using an over the electrical wire adapter, Netgear XE102, to reach a remote room. This was not plugged directly into the wall socket, but into a multiple outlet going into the wall Very severe rebuffering Plugging the Netgear directly into the wall solved the problem Probably the instability of the outlet caused electrical surges that in turn caused some frames to be lost. I should add that a proper protocol error management should avoid this. [slim] Problems with Squeezecenter 7.x
My Squeezebox arrived last week and the whole week I was not able to get a decent song out of the box. My library is all FLAC and none of them played longer then 5 seconds and then came in a loop. The 5 seconds of play was with click and other noise (louder then the real song). After I enabled Bitrate Limiting (and installled lame) the FLAC files played, but again with clicks and noice. The FLAC files where playing with Winamp or Mediamonkey. The SB is wireless connected to the network, the Windows XP desktop with a wire (all to the same router). The quality of the wireless connetion is 80%. The following I tried but none was working: - Wired the SB - Static IP on SB - Converted FLAC to MP3 (different formats) - Installed SC 7.2.1 - Pressed Add after reboot of SB - Pressed 1 after reboot of SB - Installed SC 7.3.1 on different Windows XP desktop - Installed SC 7.2.1 on different WIndows XP desktop Then I thought it was Windows XP, so I bought a Synology DS209+ (needed more space also ;-)). On the Synology DS209+ I tried it with the Synology package and later on with SSODS (with SC 7.3.1). Still the same results: without bitrate limiting a few seconds of a song and then loop (with noise and clicks), with bitrate limiting on a lot of noise and clicks. So it wasn't Windows XP... Then last night I tried installing 6.5.4. First on the Synology with SSODS, but that was not working because the version of SSODS didn't like such an old version of SC). After that on the Windows XP desktop, and.. YES it worked (without bitrate limiting, all my FLAC files are playing fine!) Re: [slim] Sync Interface Rant
I was looking forward to upgrading to 7.31 precisely for the fact that it is supposed to improve synchronized payback but now you have me worried that I should wait for a later release. I thought synchronized playback was supposed to be one of the core technologies and key reasons for buying multiple streaming music players. I'm kind of surprised that this isn't more polished and that features like pre-defined groups of players that you can enable in a single step, or add as a group to a larger synch group, are not supported in the main sofware release. I think some features (and maybe more rational controller menus?) are available through plugins but shouldn't this be part of the core development? -- upstatemike upstatemike's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6409 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57660 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Squeezebox 3 problem with s/pdif interface
thank you to all. Apologies for not having given a feedback to you all, but I've been out of home for a while and I am back now. I bought a decent optical cable, connected the SB3 through it and the problem seems to be disappeared. It probably has to do with something in my electrical cabling. The multi-plug socket I am using is probably not of the best quality and shall have to be replaced. Anybody have a suggestion for a decently priced solution? (not more than euro 50) The current setup is for a simnple multi-plug (one main electrical switch, plus one switch per plug) powering the DVD-player, the SB3, the DAC and the integrated amplifier. On another plug I have a Plasma widescreen, an IOmega HDplayer and a DVB-T external box. I do not have other mains plugs in the near proximity, so it shall have to be a multi-plug solution. In the stores near where I live (Milan, Italy) you can find what I would call fancy multi-plug sockets from Belkin or similar. Will any of these be a viable option? The art work in the .HTML file directly links to the actual location where the art is stored and using the drive mapping used during the generation of it. Moving this file to another computer not having this mapping will result is art work being missing. The .mht file though is a file which is portable and can either be stored anywhere else or send to someone else as all page content is included in the .mht file. It is a standard Internet Explorer feature and file format. Another way of making it portable is saving the catalog as PDF file (useful if you don't want to use the Internet explorer archive format). -- SilverRS8 Author of -'AlbumCatalogCreator' (http://www.vanholt.nl/acc/acc.htm)- for SqueezeCenter SlimServer SilverRS8's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12818 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41597 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Sync Interface Rant
Even with only 3 devices that I sync (in various permutations), I too find the new sync behaviour a bit of a pain. In part it's just a learning experience, I think. If I'm in the living-room and realise I have to go upstairs for a while, I *guess* what I need to do is switch the controller to Upstairs, then ask to sync with the Living-room (or its group). But there's no quick way to synchronise all three players. I find the Synchroniser plugin more useful; and though it lets me create predefined sync groups (each with a designated master), I end up using its sync all others to this player option most of all. Only trouble is, it only seems to work if the master is stopped (not just paused), which renders all the nice mid-play sync work pointless. (A slight secondary problem of my own making was that after doing sync all to this one day, a few minutes later, I noticed a tinny echo of the music, which I eventually realised was coming from the Controller. Yes, I'd enabled the controller as a player, so of course it was included...) I miss the Other Players plugin (which wasn't available for 7.3 last time I checked); I found it intuitive and (a real boon) didn't have to keep changing players in the Controller in order to sync in either direction, or to grab/send the current playlist. I think I'm falling foul of another quirk with sync (but really need more tests to confirm): if any player in a group had crossfade enabled before sync, then even if it wasn't the master, the sync group will crossfade. The settings for the master still show No Crossfade. So then I have to cycle round the players to find the culprit and change it. It would seem more intuitive to me for the sync group to use the master's settings. Re: [slim] Rhapsody Issues
brews...@archive.org;378724 Wrote: Slimdevices support suggested I do a factory reset, and this cleared this issue. -brewster Unfortunately the factory reset didn't work for me. So finally today I finish the last major piece of my home setup (been tinkering with it for a while). Extol the virtues to my wife, walk her through how to select players, synchronize them, etc. Talk about the various music services, including Rhapsody. She says she wants to hear a particular song. My free 25 plays are used up, but I've seen enough to sign up, so I do. Find the song, plays, and stops. Try some Rhapsody channels and get the same. Spend 30 minutes troubleshooting -- no luck. Finally turn on debug logging and find the A max of three streams... error. Search the forum and find this is a known problem. Go through the factory reset pain -- still broken. Drat, talk about your bad timing! Now wife ain't happy and I'm annoyed. (And now one SBR will play, but the main one still throws this error.) So what next? Just signed up for Rhapsody On the Go and can't use it on one receiver, but can through the other (at least through SC). Is this a SqueezeCenter problem, or a Rhapsody problem? Should I cancel my Rhapsody membership (and now I see that I have to CALL them to cancel -- that bites.) I hate to have just paid for the service and not have full use of it. I just checked the bug report, which says Resolved, though the most recent comment says it is still broken. So is this being worked on or not? So, just completed a reset of the problem SBR, but the problem remains. ...not a valid session id...Invalid playback session. A max of three streams are allowed at one time.. I am definitely only playing one stream (through the working SBR.) Re: [slim] Love My Squeezebox! What's The Equivalent For Video?
After years of people asking for a simple way to play video content on their TV the consumer electronics industry is finally listening. The DLNA protocol is supposed to allow you play any content on any device over a network without any configuration. There are a few TVs that came out last summer that support DLNA. This means you can simply click play content on your remote and your content on your PC or media server will show up. No external box for your TV required. Not all devices support DLNA yet. If fact most don't for now you still need a media server like VortexBox that supports many different protocols. -- agillis rip, tag, get cover artÂ… All you do is insert the CD! http://vortexbox.org agillis's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21140 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40689 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

morgan4x4;379179 Wrote: PeterW, confusing to who? Did Logitech get compaints about the word sync un different intefaces? Hard to believe that csonsumers that have moved to the SBC will do a lot of, if any, syncing on the SB physical devices. For me it was a no-brainer switching between controller, web and SB2 units. Now I am more confused than ever - see my Study / Dining Room sync example. Seems as if the desire to have everything operate the same overrode common sense. In fact, they did get complaints -- search these forums and you'll see them, as well as an active discussion of alternatives. And yes, a lot of people do still use combinations of SBC, IR remotes on SB classics, and web ui to control sync'ing. I see problems with both ways, but I agree that the 7.3.x ui is a step backwards. -- aubuti Nothing high-end, but music anywhere I want it. The Old behaviour maked perfect sense to me too. But I've learned now I just do the *opposite* of what feels right. It is way to many player switches involved even with two players. -- Mnyb Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57660 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Sync Interface Rant
funkstar;379064 Wrote: However the developers have recognised it as a failing of the system as it stands and it will be addressed in the next revision. Is there a plan on how it will be changed ? I'm starting to think that we might want to configure zones where you can have overlapping zones. For example: - Livingroom zone --- SB Classic in Livingroom - Bedroom zone --- SB Boom in bedroom - Kitchen zone --- SB Boom in kitchen - Whole house zone --- SB Classic in Livingroom --- SB Boom in kitchen --- SB Boom in bedroom - Daily zone --- SB Classic in Livingroom --- SB Boom in kitchen When when we want to be able to control a zone instead of a single player. The default installation should of course have a zone per player automatically configured by default so the user only have to configure any multi player zones. So instead of choosing player I would be able to choose a zone and select what to play in that zone. When I play something in the Daily zone it will make sure that SB Classic in Livingroom and SB Boom in kitchen in the same sync group and remove any other players from that syncgroup and start playing. The IR controll and Boom interface would control the zone which the player currently is controlled by. If it's not controlled by any multi player zone it would control the local player. I'm not sure how big change this will be since there aren't any zone concept in SqueezeCenter today. It may be something to try out as a plugin first before we change it as standard. A solution like this will add a small complexity when setting up the zones but it will IMHO make it a lot easier when you want to select what you want to play where. Do you think this would work ? Would it be better than a solution that controlled single players ? -- erland Erland Isaksson 'My homepage' (http://erland.isaksson.info) 'My download page' (http://erland.isaksson.info/download) (Developer of 'TrackStat, SQLPlayList, DynamicPlayList, Custom Browse, Custom Scan, Custom Skip, Multi Library, Title Switcher and Database Query plugins' (http://wiki.erland.isaksson.info/index.php/Category:SlimServer)) erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57660 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
