Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
A quick update on this. For the Nvidia Shield TV I have found the best combination is Squeeze Player and Squeeze Ctrl. Both need to be side loaded (you can get the apk off your phone using X-Plorer) and use the TV App Repo app to create a shortcut the Squeeze Player. This means it is on the main screen and easy to activate. Squeeze Ctrl is not certified for the Shield TV but you can use the TV remote for navigating many of the screens. Some do not work or the highlight is missing but in those rare cases I can use the Shield TV app. [image: https://i.imgur.com/gmyMEc6.png] [image: https://i.imgur.com/k3J7fOH.png] [image: https://i.imgur.com/smre1IO.png] [image: https://i.imgur.com/9XePEmX.png] [image: https://i.imgur.com/NPEMDFB.png] Heuer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2543 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
I am running SqueezePlayer on my Shield TV and it works well with Orange Squeeze. There are some downsides though: 1. SqueezePlayer has to be side loaded and therefore is not displayed as an app tile on the main screen. I have to use a side load launcher to get it running 2. Orange Squeeze has to be side loaded and can be started from SqueezePlayer with the TV remote but the remote can not be used for navigation in Orange Squeeze SB Player by angryGoat is in the Play store and comes up as compatible with the Nvidia Shield TV so can anyone confirm it will appear as a tile on the Shield main screen and allow TV remote navigation? Does any player app allow TV remote navigation? I'm getting exactly the same on an old Archos 101 tablet and Galaxy Ace phone with no SIM. Both were working perfectly, the tablet up to around 3 weeks ago and the phone until last Friday. The Play store even updated SqueezePlayer on the phone a few weeks ago (I'd not turned it on for around a year). SqueezePlayer is working on my Galaxy S2 but that is the phone I use all day as a phone so don't want to drain the battery playing music on it. Surely verification of the license doesn't depend on the Android version. I've emailed the support address, but thought I'd post here in case anyone else is interested or knows the answer. I'm a very happy squeezeplayer user, but I'm wondering if it uses the android audio system for USB output (hence upsampling), or does a bitperfect output (like USB Audio Player Pro). I'm currently using UAPP for Tidal flac streaming, but would rather use Orangesqueeze with Squeezeplayer for the nicer UI. steves999's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63486 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
Hello Stefan ! I recently installed your Squeezeplayer product on my Google Nexus 5X phone. This phone does not come with an sdcard, which may be import to solve this problem ? I also am using the Squeezer player. My logitechmediaplayer server is running 7.9 on my debian linux jessie server which is up-to-date and running ssh server I have followed your 5-part usage recommendation, including the 5th part, which describes the ssh-tunnel setup. To get this working, I also installed you squeezetunnel package (outside the google play library, but installs and works well). All this is working great over wifi or cellular. Thank you so much for a great product ! Now to my only problem. I run my ssh server to only accept ssh keys, and not allow ssh password authentication. Reason ? It says right in the sshd_config file: # Change to yes to enable tunnelled clear text passwords #PasswordAuthentication no PasswordAuthentication yes I commented out my usual "no" line, and set to "yes", and then the squeezetunnel package works as expected. I checked your comments and found your recommendation to use /sdcard/sshtunnel/key or perhaps /sdcard/squeezetunnel/key. I do not have this in my phone. Any other recommendations ? Do you have a way to set up an ssh key in squeezetunnel ? freelsjd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4344 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

It depends on the device where you want to install SqueezePlayer. On Amazon devices buy on the Amazon store. On normal Android devices buy via Google. Both stores are not compatible. You cannot buy on one and copy the apk to another device. I'll check tonight that the pricing on Amazon will match the one on Google. Sometimes they get out of sync. Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
Sent this to the support email as well, but thought I'd copy it here in case anyone ran into the same issues that I did. Running on multiple android 6 devices doesn't work. Only 1 device is seen by the server at a time. The devices also show a MAC address of 02:00:00:00:00:00 which is fake. I've confirmed downgrading to Android 5.1.1 (previous versions should work as well) resolves the issue, but isn't available on all devices. It appears that there is a change in Android 6 that returns a fake MAC address when queried (see http://developer.android.com/about/versions/marshmallow/android-6.0-changes.html#behavior-hardware-id ) There is some discussion here http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/10/android-6-0-marshmallow-thoroughly-reviewed/5/ that suggests more permissions are necessary to get the MAC address, but reading the developer docs I'm not sure if this is the case (it sounds like it's only for getting MAC addresses of other devices while scanning). Some discussion at https://code.google.com/p/android-developer-preview/issues/detail?id=2427 suggests that there is a workaround to get the MAC address, but has it's consequences "/sys/class/net/wlan0/address will still be readable Android M Preview 3 and Final Release. Hello, are you planning to support the new amazon firetv 4k? Actually the amazon store marks it as not supported. I'm currently running the squeezeplayer on an old android tablet (google app store) and it is so great. But there is another approach we have another plugin that could fix the squeezebox volume to an arbitrary level . But people do also like replay gain for that other feature of making the music level match between tracks :) So actually having fixed volume and RG tags makes for a predicable volume , not bad . Using replay gain you turn Down the heavy mastered recordings, and NO clipping comes to your DAC. And it just sounds better It is very visable on my system. When playing a loudness recording the VU meters on the Transporter bangs to the buttom, and The clipping indicator on my Tact lights up all the time... Turning on replay gain VU meters are max at 0 db and mostly wide under. And the clipping indicator never lights up. I rest my case... I can see and hear what happens. Yes, USB audio can do that - but it is, as you say, exactly the same as using the volume control - the USB DAC doesn't know anything about replay gain. Replay gain works by multiplying each sample with the gain value. I've seen the code. Also, you can't do any correction in "the additional bits" because these bits are in the -96db+ rande and I doubt you'd bother to do any replay gain that faint. And if you don't want to get into rounding errors and just bit-shift (which is _not_ what is happening) you'd have to change volume in -3dB steps but that won't give you "even" volume. As you say, with a 24-bit DAC you have at least 8 bits of extra, so 48 dB before you start to eat into the SNR of the source material. "To try to judge the real from the false will always be hard. I have experimented with not using 100% volume before my digital processor to try to asses how it deals with this . Results are still inconclusive these bad recordings sounds so bad anyway it may be hard to tell if they sound even worse due to this . As the squeezebox uses 24 bit output for 99% of your typical content that is 16 bit they only get shifted a down to the next bit or so and you can experiment how your DAC behaves now . I actually agree about intersample overshoots , but actually a surprisingly large amount of typical chips does not deal with it or produce slightly less snr when programmed to do so ( the backside of incomplete measurement a silly hunt for specs ) . I think this have been debated elsewhere 3 to 10dB headroom have been suggested but it is apparently not commonly implemented ? Or is it ? Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
Whether or not there is a clipping issue with a persons music or stereo gear is kind of beside the point of providing replay gain support in SqueezePlayer. Replay gain support would be a very nice feature for SqueezePlayer so that an Android based Squeezebox player will be able to have volume differences between different recordings addressed. With many squeeze users moving to players that are homegrown it would be nice to know that we can have the same feature/function that we had/have in the original squeeze devices. 2 Duets - 1 for upstairs and 1 for downstairs Rock Solid with LMS 7.8.0 and WHS 2011 w3wilkes's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22973 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

And, by the way... callesoroe wrote: > It turns Down the signal BEFORE it comes to your DAC. All DACS do not > like clipped signals... DACs really couldn't care less. A DAC doesn't know if a (digital) signal is clipped or not, and reproduces the signal just the same. OK, you might have a sentinent DAC that doesn't like Jimi Hendrix, but replay gain is not going to change the musical taste of a DAC. "To try to judge the real from the false will always be hard. The Squeezeboxes do not clip, even at full volume. If your source material is in clipping range, nothing in the world will be able to change that. Unless you are gong with an over-preamplified analog signal into your power amp - in which case the problem is with your preamp setup - replay gain will have no effect on clipping. --- learn more about iPeng, the iPhone and iPad remote for the Squeezebox and Logitech UE Smart Radio as well as iPeng Party, the free Party-App, at penguinlovesmusic.com *New: iPeng 8, the Universal App for iOS 7 and iOS 8* pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
Seems you have been finding a bug here. When the audio start delay is set on another Squeezebox, SqueezePlayer will not respect this indeed. Guess noone ever needed to set the audio start delay on a real Squeezebox, as their latencies are so low :) Do note, that the main synchronisation setting still is the "audio delay", as it will overrule the "audio start delay" after some seconds of playback. Having said all this: after investigating all this today, I have a beta version of SqueezePlayer ready, where the audio start delay of other devices will be respected. That's exactly what I'm doing actually. My living room has a little less than a second delay. The squeezeplayer has no delay. As such, I've set the living room start delay for multiple levels. I've even tried 3000ms and it still won't delay squeezeplayer -at all-. In comparison, my squeezelite instance on Linux delays properly. Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
SqueezePlayer does obey synchronisation and delay settings. Be aware how those settings work: you don't tell the server that it should delay a player, but what the current delay of a player IS. So if you configure, that SqueezePlayer does have a delay, the server will tell all other players (!) to start later. This way they will start at the same time as the delayed player. I recommend resetting all audio delays. Then start players in sync let them play for a while (20seconds) so they can all adjust and find out what player is behind. For this player configure an audio delay and start all over. When you got all players in sync after some time off playing, you have solved the first problem/setting. On a second iteration care for the audio start delay. Here you can fine tune the very first seconds of synced play. Don't try to configure both settings at the same time. Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
Greetings, I finally got interested in setting up a synced music environment and have had good luck between my Win PC and Linux netbook with Lubuntu. I decided to also try to get another room working using an older tablet which I borrowed from a friend for testing. I found that squeezelite seems to obey the delay start in the media server control which got the first two working. Squeezeplayer, no matter how many times I've adjusted the settings for delay does not seem to obey them and insists on instantly starting playback - even if something absurd like 3000ms start delay is set on the primary device I'm trying to have it start with. Does squeezeplayer simply not honor it or could something else be causing it? Hi, I don't know if your issue is not SYNC at all or some getting some lags. Did you try the adjustment setting in SB setting : see the screen shot. Also in your audio setting for the player : I think there is a possibility to enable/disable re-sampling) or maybe in the App. My setting is the default and are visible in the screenshot. I made some other tests of SYNC with : 1) squeezelite (http://code.google.com/p/squeezelite/) but on windows, it synchronizes but some time you can hear some minor lags. I have noticed that it synchronizes at the beginning of each track. So, wait the next track to have a new synchronizing. I don't remember my result on a Linux OS, but the developer told me that it should sync without problem. 2) also another Player that you can try is : http://angrygoatapps.com/sbplayer_android.html. 3) Squeeze play on windows : I'm sure that it doesn't synch. 1816318164 +---+ |Filename: SB-Sync-01.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=18164| +---+ ASUS S1 D525 ATOM with 2GB on Linux Gentoo i686-linux Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 (Previous Version : 7.7.3 - 7.5.5 - r32671) Perl Version: 5.18.2 - i686-linux-thread-multi Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.34_01 (sqlite 3.7.7.1) (Previously : MySQL : 5.1.70) 1 x Squeezebox Touch : 7.5.1-r9009 + 1 x Squeezebox Boom + 1 x Squeezebox Receiver Squeeze Lite on Raspberry SqueezeCommander (0.9.6.1) on ACER A1-810 esa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9362 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

So, Im trying to set up a multi-room audio with multiple old Android phones running squeezeplayer, and Im having sync issues. LMS is running on a Synology diskstation DS214+. Devices are a Samsung Galaxy Exhibit II 4g, a Samsung Galaxy S, a Samsung Galaxy Epic 4G, and a Samsung Galaxy S3, each plugged into its own amp/speakers. Is there any way to tell which is the problem device? So far, Im starting out just trying to sync 2 (like Exhibit and Galaxy S, or Exhibit and Epic). Id prefer not to have to go through every possible combination (especially if the problem is something else, like network). Do you think it would help if I set up a second wifi access point with a unique SSID thats only used by the music players? Or should this not make a difference? Ive actually got Cat-5 near each of the amps, so if theres a better way of going about this hardwired with different devices (cheaply priced), please let me know. I picked up some old android phones (cracked screens, who cares), for pretty cheap, and each works individually with the LMS just fine. Only the sync is a problem. Do you think it would help to wipe off the stock Android software on these and load up something stripped down like Cyanogenmod? Is there a particular Android version that might be better than others (i.e., Froyo vs. Gingerbread vs. ICS, vs Kit Kat)? I'm happy to announce, that an update is available now on Google Play (might need some hours, until it is rolled out). Problems with FLAC playback under Android 5.0 / Lollipop have been resolved. SqueezePlayer also remains its compatibility with Android 2.1 and devices with with only 500Mhz CPUs :D, so you can easily turn your old devices into Squeezeboxes. ^^ I can confirm this based on a very quick test. I just played one of my few mp3 files with no problem. I then tried a random FLAC file and that failed in the same way as last night (no audio in OrangeSqueeze but looks like it is playing; SqueezePlayer crashes when I try to open the app window). I was trying to play FLAC files last night - which would be the usual case for me. Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
I was trying to get my phone to work as a Squeezebox player last night, using SqueezePlayer and OrangeSqueeze. Initially I thought it was OrangeSqueeze that was the problem as I have only installed it in the last few days. Previously I have used SqueezeCommander but I heard that the developer has gone AWOL, so I thought I would give OrangeSqueeze a try. The symptoms are roughly as follows (I am typing this from work and can't try it out at the moment so am going from memory of what happened last night): I start SqueezePlayer. Everything seems OK. I open OrangeSqueeze and I see my phone listed as a player. I select it. I try to play a track but I do not hear anything (though I do see the track time ticking away). If I try to open SqueezePlayer, it comes up briefly but closes. I see some error message related to wifi but it is not open for long enough to read it. My phone is no longer listed as a player in OrangeSqueeze. Sometimes, when I open SqueezePlayer, I hear a brief snippet of the track I tried to play. I *think* this happens only after I have closed OrangeSqueeze but I am not sure. As I say, I thought initially it was OrangeSqueeze that was the issue as this was the first time I tried to use it in conjunction with SqueezePlayer. However, when I went back to SqueezeCommander, that did not work either. I tried various other things such as clearing SqueezePlayer's data and cache, uninstalling it and reinstalling, restarting the server etc. After all of this it occurred to me that this was probably the first time I had tried to use SqueezePlayer since my phone upgraded to Android 5.0. The phone is a Nexus 5 so tends to be ahead of the curve in getting Android updates so, if that is the source of the problem, perhaps relatively few people have seen it so far. I did see a couple of recent reviews for SqueezePlayer on the Play Store which seem to lend support to the theory that SqueezePlayer is broken with Android 5.0. Does this sound plausible or is there anything I could try? Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
Just installed squeezeplayer on my FireTV (bluegaspode sent me the apk - thanks a lot!) It works fine if the FireTV is connected through WiFi to the network. It does not work at all if it's connected through wired connection. My fireTV is connected over HDMI to the AV-Receiver. Adjusting volume at the FireTV is not possible. After 10 minutes, the screensaver of the FireTV starts, but music continues. Have to find out if the FireTV will go to standby after 30 minutes (but I'm sure there's some hack out there to prevent that). Also I have to find out how to start Squeezeplayer automatically after bootup of the AFT. feelfree's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16670 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
Dear, I would like to use a SqueezeBox in my car. I plan to install a raspberry with piCorePlayer in my car : https://sites.google.com/site/picoreplayer/home To play sound in my car, I can use the car analog input + HifiBerry (The Jack output of the Rpi sounds very bad). My car can be connected with a Bluetooth device. So if I can avoid wires and as I'll use my smartPhone with SqueezeCommander, why not try the BT connection? I plan to buy a HTC Desire 500 with a Bluetooth APTx compatible. I don't know if my car is APTx compatible, but I already made a test with a tablet that is A2DP compatible and it sounds correctly. If APTx is better, I plan to add a device like this one : http://www.aptx.com/product/advance-acoustic-wtx-500-bluetoothr-receiver A third solution : As my car also have a Aux Input, I can use the phones output but what's about the quality? I read that SqueezePlayer will be able to connect through a Bluetooth connection and in fact that's an Android feature (the OS will manage the sound output) Does someone already try such BT APTx connection with SqueezePlayer or is it best to use the Phone output connection? Interesting. Another success for Amazon after the huge failure of the FirePhone. They're releasing the Amazon Fire TV in Germany. Considering their cheap introductory offer of just 49 for Prime customers, I pre-ordered one. It's my understanding that installing apps is not a problem. You can side-load them via ADB. There are also utilities available (most described on 'XDA developers' (http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/themes-apps)) which directly install apps like XBMC and also root the FTV for you. These utilities also can install APKs for you. Obviously, I intend to run SqueezePlayer on the FTV. I have already purchased in in the play store. I don't mind purchasing it again. But will you provide the APK to users, bluegaspode? I'm just asking because I'm no Android expert and I don't know if you cannot hand out the APK for copy protection reasons or the like. dafiend's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=60637 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Stefan, sorry to have initially laid this on Squeeze Player; it seems Bitrate Limiting is broken on all of my SB players. Perhaps I have a non-compatible LAME.EXE version? Thanks everyone for your help. Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
If bitrate limiting is on, FLAC.exe is needed to decode the FLAC first, then lame or another mp3 decoder does the bitrate limiting. This should be working without problems of course. As you're saying you are running on Windows I'd also expect some decent hardware behind the scenes, so that you wouldn't run in CPU or Ram issues. I expect when enabling bitrate limiting on another Squeezebox you are running into trouble as well? It could be a problem with that but OTH doesn't bit rate limiting use lame.exe? It could be a problem with that. I wonder if you could try a WAV file with the BRL turned on, that might help isolate the issue. You're on to something but I can't quite figure it out. Since posting above I've discovered that it is only FLAC files that cause the problem. I can play Internet radio and also MP3 files in My Library via Squeeze Player just fine. As soon as I select a FLAC file and hit "Play" everything hangs. I also noticed that when I do this FLAC.EXE starts up in my Windows Task Manager. This does not happen when playing FLAC on any other SB player. I don't have a custom-convert.conf and everything on my "File Types" page looks normal (e.g. FLAC > FLAC = Native). Any idea what is going on here? Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
I bought a small powered speaker with the intention of listening to LMS on my balcony. I already had Orange Squeeze and SqueezePlayer on my Android phone and plugged the speaker into the phone earphone jack. When I tried to play music from my local server both Orange Squeeze and LMS hung. After rebooting my phone and my server I tried the same thing this time using mysqueezebox.com and it worked as expected. Switched back to "My Music" and everything hung again. The thing is that I know this once worked as I have listened to local music via earphones on my phone. Something I did in the past few months has broken it. I tried reverting from LMS 7.8.1 to 7.8.0 with no change. I also turned off the "Local Player" plugin on LMS because I'd only recently started using it; this also made no difference. Any other ideas why this would be happening? Thanks. Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
Hi. I just realized when starting squeezeplayer it's possible to have two parallel audiostreams on the output (just happened on my LG G2 when connected to bluetooth speakers) Squeezeplayer doesn't seem to recognize that another audio app is playing. Other apps like Tune-In just turn the running audio-stream off when started. Would be nice to have a function build-in that disables/mutes other audiostreams. It should be possible, since it is also done by other audio apps. Well, the App states you need a local server to operate SqueezePlayer. The reason is, that players don't register on mysqueezebox.com by themselves. You might want to contact me via support(at)squeezeplayer.com for further instructions about the topic.
