DX4Win est conçu pour DXCC / WAZ et sa vitesse et sa exactitude est sans pareil

je peux attendre mais sinon je crains de me sentir oligé de revenir vers un 
'vrai' log C'est quand même trés étonnant au vu de prix que ce logiciel soit si 
en retard par rapport à d'autres

For those who might have other suggestions Daniel has an issue with DX4Win not 
supporting the report sent and received fields being output in the ADIF file 
from his contest logger. (Sent Received Numeric/Alpha)

Daniel, the problem is that DX4WIN supports ADIF level 1 and does not recognize 
those fields. Jim, AD1C has written a program that will put that information in 
QSO Notes for many contests:

Ma question est donc :  comment faîtes vous pour récupérer ces champs depuis un

Small edit to example filter set-up macro... a newline was dropped in my cut
and paste...

acc/sp 1 on HF and by_zone 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,14,33,35,40
acc/sp 2 on VHF and (call_zone 2,4,5 or by_zone 2,4,5)
rej/sp 1 by w3lpl

An explanation of the above...

On 160-10 I want to see spots from NA and Western EU
On  6 and up just from spotters or stations on the East Coast
Reject W3LPL spots

You can also refine it by band or range of bands if you wish... just use the
help command or consult the on-line documentation

Once you set up your filters on a DX cluster they will be persistent over
time unless the sysop does a major reset...

Is to export a DX4W log to an Excel or CSV file?  I'd like to keep a
spreadsheet with the details of my QSL's sent (addresses, return method,
etc.).  The "Basic" export gives a text file but it loads into Excel with
all the items for each QSO in one cell.


I tried to check the archives but didn't find anything.  They seem to be
organized by month and you'd have to open them one month at a time and scan
through.  Am I missing something?.  Is there a way to search them for a key
word, such as "CSV"?

After doing that, he needs to re-sign his log and re-upload to LoTW. Just
changing the station info isn't enough to correct this.
(It will fix it for future uploads, but won't get the grid square added to
past LoTW uploads.) 73,

He doesn't need to redo his uploads just update his LotW station info. Our
actuary at work is Hungarian born. If you drop me a note with the stations
name/call/e-mail at mel.mar...@acegroup.com I'll pass it on and have him
send a request in Hungarian.

To fix it in DX4Win set the VUCC flag to ignore on the QSO.

I worked a Hungary station on 6 meters on June 29th.  A few days later, our
LOTW uploads matched giving me a new country on 6 for DXCC.  Unfortunately ,
he did not fill out his TQSL info so he had no zone or VUCC grid listed.  So
I did not get a VUCC match for his grid.

In DX4WIN, I show a letter "C" for a confirmation on VUCC reports as well as
the "C" for DXCC reports.  It should NOT show a VUCC match because he did
not list his grid.  I have asked him 3 times to complete the TQSL info and
resubmit all his erroneous uploads including mine (of course!), but he has
not done it and may not understand my English or want to do it.  I do have a
card in the mail system which , if received some day, will satisfy the VUCC
requirement for the ARRL.

But can't DX4WIN handle my situation so I do not show that the his grid has
been confirmed?

Go to the menu. File , export and select ADIF.

If you upload regularly to LotW you can just upload your LotW submission
file (the .adi not the .tq8) each lime to keep them both current.

What makes you think you can? I took a quick look at the VE3SUN site and I
didn't see anything about it including a Telnet server, just a client. Why
don't you use VE7CC's software. It does work with DX4Win and it's free.

For DXSpider, I keep a test file SpotFilter.txt with the following:

rej/sp 1 by w3lpl

The I load a function key with the macro Filter|%fSpotFilter.txt%

You could load one key with the AR Cluster filer commands and another with
DXSpider syntax

Here is the Filter I use on my local AR-Cluster ( KQ8M.NO-IP.ORG ) which is
running Version 6 :
 
SET DX FILTER ( Cty <> K and Cty <> VE ) AND ( SpotterCty = K Or SpotterCty
= VE ) AND SPOTTER <> W3LPL -3
 
This is what it does..
 
It excludes K & VE stations from being spotted  AND It supplies spots only
from K & VE stations  AND It excludes all spots from a "certain" spotter.
 
Hope this helps users on newer AR-Clusters.

P.S.  The exclusion of the K & VE stations being spotted is to
 avoid seeing Skimmer spots of domestic CQ'ers.  It's easy
 to turn them back ON during domestic Contests.

The Node I use has VERY flexible filters. I have had the "certain" spotter's
un-hearable spots completely eliminated. The Node allows me to filter by
Continent, Spotter, Country, etc., etc., etc.
 
AND, the Node has Skimmers which can be turned on/off at will and set to
only spot by numerous criteria.  It's pretty new and absolutely great!!
 
Everyone should give it a try!!  It's  KQ8M.NO-IP.ORG
 
It's run by Tim KQ8M who is a long-time DX-er and Contester and he bends
over backwards to accomodate the Users' needs.
 
Tim will help you set up a Filter customized for you.  Once you have it, you
can possibly use it on your regular Cluster.

[Dx4win] Canadian Province error.

DX4Win marks Newfoundland and Labrador as NF and LB on export. This is 
incorrect... it should be NL for both.

Perhaps it's because of the bizarre Province enumerations used by the 
WAVE and WOCAN awards...

However, as an administrative subdivision, it is incorrect and also 
non-compliant with ADIF ver 2.0.

I get this error if the radio COM port interfaces are not defined
correctly or if I try to open DX4Win if another program has the Winkey
interface open. It's definitely related to COM port errors.

Paul should try to trap and process this error gracefully if possible.

[Dx4win] No Bureau bug?

As I try to catch up on a couple of years og QSLing this weekend, I ran 
into an oddity... maybe a bug?

I selected the option under Labels to "Change QSL routing"

I wanted to change anything marked as Bureau to Direct if there was no 
Bureau available.

DX4Win changed the routing of cards for contries without a bureau that 
were being routed to a QSL manager in a country that had a bureau to 
Direct. That doesn't seem right!

[Dx4win] Printers for QSLing

As I am about to print in excess of 1500 QSL cards, I am thinking I 
might change my printer.

The Brother I use now does a pretty good job on card stock... but I can 
only load about 10 cards at a time... that means reloading the printer 
150 times... not much fun.

Any recommendations for a relatively inexpensive printer that I can load 
up with at least 100 cards at a time?

It doesn't have to be color... though that's preferred.

Yes I know Jim... that's why I originally sent it to F2YS... I thought 
it was incorrect because the card bounced back... but now that I 
re-examine the card it seems the bureau bounced it instead or forwarding 
it to F2YS as indicated.

Check again... you should see this order: CW, SSB, RTTY, ASCI, ATV, and
so on.

I still think inactive modes should not appear at all... generally D4W
is very good at data entry in off-line mode without using the mouse if
you set up the "disable fields" which just disables tabs to that field 
... but if I enter an SSB contact followed by a CW
contact I have to hit the C twice when Mode has the focus to step
through Clover. Not a big deal... just untidy...

This doesn't address the fact that a CW contact prior to 1975 does count 
for the mixed award but not for the CW award... you can't just eliminate 
the QSO from the count... so you have to do it twice, without the filter 
for Mixed and with the filter for CW. Perhaps this is what you were 
suggesting Kostas... it's hard to explain in English even for an 
Englishman ;-)

Make sure that the mode field is enabled. just hit S to select SSB and C
once or twice to select CW (Clover also starts with C). You work PSK and
RTTY from the mobile? In any case R selects RTTY... P selects lots of
stuff... but if the inactive modes were removed from the dropdown the
situation would be improved... not many using Clover for example.

The way I think D4W is working... that's not going to happen like that.

However, it is possible to have a combined award display where the spot 
priority (which determines the color) is determined to be the higher of 
the awards you are actively chasing. That way, if you needed Zone 2 on 
160M, if you see a brightly colored VE2 you can be pretty sure it's Zone 
2. I don't think that would be too much work for Paul... and I suspect, 
given D4W's "raison d'être" is award chasing, he is going to support the 
new CQ awards eventually and will need some extra selections. Instead of 
having a selection DXCC/WAZ/WPX have checkboxes for DXCC/WAZ/WPX/CQ 
Field at the top of the form. If you check DXCC and WAZ... if its 
flagged... work it... figure out why later ;-)

It isn't copied Ernie... it is a unique record that maps to the 
callsign... and is very useful as it stands... it should be left alone. 
BTW, I have the same issue as my log goes back to 1969.

What Paul needs to do is add a new field for name. I'm not sure, with 
access to QRZ.Com and such, whether there is any need to store the 
address... maybe a short field for QTH might be useful. These fields 
perhaps should copy forward by default... but this could be overridden. 
This would take care of this issue or archival information.

And Paul... PLEASE add a field for frequency data. D4W complicates lfe 
unnecessarily when exchanging data via ADIF by not supporting dedicated 
fields for Name/QTH/Freq.

Paul, if you read this... it would require a data migration utility.
The present convention seems to be name on the first line and QTH on the 
second line of notes.

Along the same lines... it would be nice if the Modes drop down only 
listed valid nodes for the station. Minor... but should be real easy.

Another are that needs a look is the Calendar. That has to be the worst 
user interface I have ever encountered... except for perhaps MultiPSK 
;-) Along with an easy to use import we could keep a master calendar on 
Jim's site for import... wouldn't that be handy...

That's true... but I actually prefer the way it works when sorting by 
time...  except for the alert color being overwritten. Most of the time 
I have the grey spots filtered out so its usually not an issue... it's 
only a minor inconvenience anyway.

You seem to miss the point completely Guy... perhaps you are confused by 
the word "bug" in the subject which started the discussion...

We are not discussing a bug at this point, but whether it is desirable 
for a grey spot to overwrite a colored spot. The issue doesn't arise 
when the grey spots are filtered out.

I realize it is by design... but my reasoning is as follows...

At present, if the spot is outside the filter zone it's grey. Correct.

If a spot arrives from inside the filter, indicating it is being heard 
in the area of interest, it is colored. Correct.

Now if another spot arrives withing a couple of minutes from outside the 
geographic area it turns grey again... indicating it isn't being heard 
in the area of interest? Wrong. It's probably still being heard.

I would be inclined, on receipt of a spot outside the area of interest 
Not to flip the color back to grey. Or maybe, a refinement, a colored 
spot should be protected for a period of time... 15min, 30min... I'm not 
sure... a valid spot inside the zone resets the timer... but this 
requites more work.

Of course, all this alert logic is wasted when dopes insist on posting 
spots informing the world of what they CAN'T hear or begging for 
contacts. Perhaps a future refinement... a spotter blacklist ;-) 
(Actually not a bad idea as I think about it.)

Speaking of lists... have you considered supporting friend.ini. Its 
probably a better source of operator's name than the CDs & Servers 
(Which usually have my formal name of Melvyn from government records 
instead of my on-the-air name of Mel) and wouldn't require much coding 
to query.

1. You have worked them

2. You have the band or mode disabled

3. The spot is from outside the geographic area you are filtering on.

I suspect #3

BTW, one unwanted feature I have noticed. If you have a colored spot and 
grey spots are enabled... if a spot from outside your filter is 
posted... it turns the spot grey!

Hi Tom.

I just can't think of any good reason not to import all your contacts
into DX4Win. I would seem to me to be a lot easier to keep track/backup
of one large log instead of dozens of small ones. I use Writelog. After
the contest I import everything and delete all contest logs after a few
months have elapsed.

You got a message... but are the QSOs actually in the log? Do the modes
match?
DON'T import them. There is no reason there should be confirmed Qs on
LotW that are not in your log.

My guess at this point is you have encountered the "Mode mismatch bug".

I'm not sure you can announce unworked band/mode new ones without
announcing the unconfirmed stuff... but DX4Win is full of non-obvious
features... maybe someone has an idea.

You could "cheat" if your friend doesn't use LotW and set the Upload
Confirmed flag for all contacts in the log. That way, if it's in the
log, it won't be announced.

Assuming that it is just DX4Win that can't connect... I would guess a 
problem with the spot file

Close DX4Win. Delete DX4Win.PUT. Also delete files whose suffix starts 
with a tilde. Then restart DX4Win

[Dx4win] Ver 8 wish list re spotting.

As i mentioned in another e-mail, I really like the way DX4Win handles 
spots... but I do have a few quibbles.

We presently have to choice of flagging a new DXCC either when we have 
never worked it... pretty rare for me nowadays... or we have never 
confirmed it... I have lots of those.

It would be nice if, at a glance, we could differentiate. New DXCC and 
unconfirmed new DXCC and do away with the check-box in preferences. 
Could we use priority 0 for never worked DXCC spots?

Grey spots... the trouble is there are different kinds of grey spots 
that D4W treats the same... and I don't want to.

If the spot is for a band or mode I do not or can not operate I never 
want to see it... Grey minus... lowest possible priority... or hide them 
completely.

If the spot is outside spotter geographic region I am filtering on... I 
usually don't want to see them especially if the spotting network is 
busy. However, if the band is quiet, such as early morning, I do like to 
monitor all spots. These are the real grey spots. Priority 10. (Not 9... 
I need room for a new level).

If you have worked a station before D4W flags them as grey spots. The 
logic is obvious, you don't work a station twice for an award especially 
if it's a DXpedition. However I'm not convinced this is correct. Even if 
you don't need a station, on a particular band for example, it is useful 
to see a spot for a needed award/band/mode regardless of where they are 
operating. For example if you need VP8DLM on 40 but have worked him on 
20. If you see him on 20, you know he IS active and he IS NOT on 40. 
This is of interest! This should be one level above black spots.. 
Priority 8... black spots pri 9.

As I do switch grey spots on and off, there should be a quicker way to 
turn them on and off. Maybe a right mouse click option.

Grey spots may update a higher priority spot, but should not change the 
priority. IE if grey spots are on and a European station sends a spot 
(assuming we are in NA) for a needed country... it should not assume the 
"grey spot" priority (unless it's older than 60 min)... because the 
station is being heard in the filtered region.

We have drifted from the original thread. The fact that you can screw up 
DX4Win by starting two instances almost simultaneously is perhaps an 
interesting bit of trivia... and the RunOnlyOne utility is 
interesting... I never heard of it before... but has little to do with 
the problem that some have had after the program has been running for 
some time and suddenly changes to DEMO mode disabling the saving any new 
or changed data.

Good...

There are a few improvements that could be made that probably don't 
involve too much effort.

I actually moved all my data to a more expensive, much more feature rich 
logging program. But after a few years, I missed D4W. The last thing I 
would want to see is a lot of new features... I like the fact it is 
fast, slick (easy to enter data) and accurate (thanks Jim). Anything 
Paul does to the program has to reinforce these attributes because it's 
what distinguishes D4W from the other programs.

Areas to be addressed:
Data safety.
eQsl.
user configurable modes. a table containing the mode, type 
(Phone,CW,Digital,Image) and equivalent ADIF mode if necessary.
For example:
USB,P,SSB
LSB,P,SSB
CW,C
FM,P
FMN,P,FM
PSK,D,PSK31
PSK31,D

interfacing with subscription XML callbook services.

I love the spotting in D4W but I believe there are a few simple 
improvements to make it even better... I'll save it for a separate email 
to see what the gang thinks.

There are some things that other programs I think he should stay away 
from because they generate a continuous need for fixes.

Scraping data from QRZ.com or Buckmaster.

Digital modes. It would be better to interface with MixW, DM780 or 
Winwarbler. Let someone else keep up with the latest digi modes ;-)
BTW I am active on Digital modes but use a dedicated program. And I 
would like to see it interfaced with D4W for data transfer.

I don't have a particularly slow computer... but it will start in Demo 
mode if I double click the icon on the taskbar.

When Paul told you it was "impossible" he was probably referring to the 
logic of the program with which he is very familiar. However there are 
"bugs" in code that can make it do something totally unexpected. 
Examples are buffer overruns, dangling pointers etc. Depending on the 
development language used some can be ferociously hard to track down.

I do agree with you that Paul should do something to mitigate this 
bug... and I think the best way is to write a transaction journal 
file... writing the whole log requires too much IO bandwidth... but just 
writing an ADIF journal file, especially if it could be written to 
removable media, would mean that any kind of failure, hardware or 
software, including the occasional and inevitable bug, would not result 
in the loss of data and would be very easy to recover from as you could 
just import the missing transactions.

I really really think you should do this Paul. Please

This bug has been around a long time... I'm not sure how far back it 
goes. It happened to me once... I have no idea why and has never 
happened since (so I can understand why it's hard to track down). 
However I ALWAYS hit alt-s immediately after working a new one. It's 
kinda stupid you have to do this... but another overdue item for Paul is 
a journal file. That can't be hard to accomplish... just write a record 
to an ADIF text file after each Add Paul... and make it optional if you 
are concerned about performance in case someone is still running DX4Win 
off a floppy drive ;-)

BTW, there is a 14 day trial... So it cost nothing to try!

Here's a piece of software that may be helpful. It allows 2 programs to
access 1 GPS by creating multiple virtual ports connected to a single COM
port. It's the same as what you are trying to do with Radio software.

I would think it would work. DX4Win polls, I believe HRD can be configured
not to. Under these circumstances, HRD will pick up the data resulting from

That's the weakness if you are trying to track alternate callsigns or
locations and simultaneously flag Contest QSOs... you can only select the
groups with an exact match.

I'm not surprised you didn't find it... it's anything but obvious.

On the log scteen, under QSO --- Contest mode...

Add $$ to the note field. This will insert the frequency into the note field
whether the program is in Contest Mode or not.

This is not a really satisfactory solution, as it is not possible to
import/export this info in standard ADIF format... ie and ADIF import will
"lose" your frequency data...

Why Paul will not change this is beyond me... DX4Win seems to be out of step
with every other logging software...

It has been suggested by those more cynical than I that Paul doesn't want to
make switching log data too easy... (I have trouble believing this... )

Maybe in the next release...

Actually, I've no idea what you are getting at in your first paragraph... so
I can't comment on that... but...

DX4Win works fine with most TUs in command mode. Does the DXP38 support a
command mode as opposed to a host mode? I used DX4Win for years on RTTY,
Pactor and Amtor using a PK900. It doesn't work with sound board RTTY... it
would be a welcome improvement.

The QSL manager has some limitations, but saying "it is far to limiting to
be useful" is an exaggeration... but some improvement would be appreciated.
Date sensitivity would be very helpful. I haven't had problems with mode
specific managers, but that's probably because I'm not doing much digital
operating lately.

It certainly would be nice if Paul found some time for some needed updates.
Lotw support is presently pretty anemic... seems as if DX4Win is falling
behind...

Well let's hope you make at least 20,000 days!

However, confirmed are good forever, but it's usually not very fruitful
chasing cards for unconfirmed QSO's many years past... to many callsign
changes and too much of what we'll euphamistically call "turnover" ;-)

The other concern I have is whether there is a problem with either the
System date or the date as stored in the records. The reason I suggest zero
is I believe that this will ignore the dates... and the stations should
showed worked or mailed status, even if there is an issue with either of the
dates. If this works, then an appropriate cutoff should be entered... 1830
(5 years) is about the max for any hope of getting a card I would think.

[Dx4win] ByteRunner LPT port problems

I can only share my experience...

I have a Lava card with an extra LPT port...

That does not work either under XP, though it worked fine under Win98.

In my case I use the motherboard LPT port for switch control and the Lava
for printing. A second LPT card may be a problem...

Does ARSWin not support serial port control? All the rotor controls I'm
familiar with use a COM port.

[Dx4win] Input of logdata from paper log into dx4win

However, it's just as easy to do it with a spread-sheet... and it's easier
to "manipulate" the data prior to entry into DX4Win... and they make a
pretty good back-up.

And in retrospect I regret having loaded all my data into DX4Win and not
keeping my older logs... I lost the frequency information that was stored in
my  logs because DX4Win simply discards it...

Which brings up a point, if you are "listening" Steve or Paul...

You should at least pop the frequency data into the note field on an ADIF
import...

All that being said... it is easy to type data directly into DX4Win...
especially if you use the "Disable Fields" option Jim suggested.

It is not be much to ask for Paul and Steve to at least indicate what plans
they have to support LOtW...

We also have bugs outstanding for 6 months now  (import of QSL manager
data)...

I think most understand that Ham software is moonlighting,  but it would be
nice to know what's happening.

You can access DX4Win over a network share... easiest way is install it on 2
computers and access the log via the network... But remember: you must not
access your log simultaneously with more than one instance of the program.

Only if "Alert Unconfirmed" is unchecked...

If it's checked it's...
1 = new DXCC never confirmed OR NewDXCC never worked
2 = never worked mode
3 = never worked band
4 = unconfirmed mode
5 = unconfirmed band

Which doesn't seem entirely logical to me...

OTOH, if you don't check "Alert Unconfirmed" you don't draw attention to
all-time new unconfirmed, which you may well want to work again, especially
if it's a different station.

Atually I discovered another "issue" with SWL labes in ver 5... I'm not sure
if it's still there in ver 6

If you export the log... then re-import it... the SWL info "disappears"...

When the cursor is in the QSL manager lookup box the callsign in that box
will be checked on the Web...
I sent the explanation to David... but it's too long to repeat...
It's a "feature" not a bug... I don't like the design choice either...
completely non-intuitive... but it does work...

[Dx4win] CW with Windows xP with version 5.03

You can just copy the driver No need to re-install... File
attached... Instructions below...

The file I attached is the one distributed with 6.02... But I'm pretty
sure it works with all versions... No harm in trying... Don't forget to
delete or more/rename vich11.vxd, the 95/98 driver...

FAQ: I get an error that the port driver cannot be found 
   

This error indicates that the port driver, the program that 'talks' to
the LPT port, is missing. 

This typically happens when you copy all the DX4WIN files to a new
computer without installing the port driver. You can correct this
problem by copying the port driver to the correct directory. 

There are two port drivers: one for Win/NT, Win/2000 and Win/XP, the
second one for Win/95, Win/98, Win/SE etc. When the correct driver is
not available, you can still retrieve the driver from the DX4WIN
installation program. You can retrieve individual files from the
installation program dx4w602.exe. Add the /X parameter on a DOS command
prompt, or create a link to the install program and add this parameter. 

See Appendix Files: portdriver for the name of the driver.

names.  Here's the scenario:

Filter -> Selection.

Click on Add, and the top box now says "Replace this Name" -- so you
start 
typing in that box.

Here's the problem:

If the first letter you type matches an *existing* selection, you are
now 
editing *THAT* selection, and not the new one you created!

For example, I have a selection called "2000 IARU".  Say I want to add a

date selection for calendar year 2000.  I start typing "2000" in the top

box, and now all of a sudden, the dates and check boxes get filled in as
if 
I'm editing the "2000 IARU" selection, which I am!  If you save this 
selection, you will have over-written the old one.

I found a work-around, which I don't recommend (it involves editing your

.DXL file).  Give the new selection some weird name like XYZZY -- it
must 
be at least one character LONGER than the name you really want.  Then
save 
it.  Exit DX4WIN and edit your .DXL file using an editor like 
Emacs.  Search for the weird name XYZZY and change it to what you want
(in 
the .DXL file, it said "XYZZYce this name", so I changed this to
"2000Yce 
this name").  In my case, since "2000" was shorter than "XYZZY", I went 
back into the selection editor and carefully deleted just the last 
character from "2000Y" to get "2000" clicked Update than OK.

Paul, I hope you understand this problem and can come up with a fix in
the 
next revision.

[Dx4win] Using 2 LPT ports on Windows XP

I fond that my Lava LPT2 did not work under XP. In my case, I only needed
one port, so I used LPT1 and moved my printer to LPT2... this won't work for
you.

same as yours...

Anyway... You can filter and by QSL data and sort the log by QSL date...
That way it's easy to locate all QSOs QSLed on a given date...

I did a quick test on an XP platform yesterday to
eliminate any OS related issues, but it has the
same problem then my Win98! Could it be my log?
I don't know if I understand you right, the 'QSO
preferences' only give date options for QSO date
(exact, range etc) - NOT for QSL date.
My problem is not searching on a QSO date but on a
QSL date; I'd like to see all the contacts I wrote
or printed a QSL card for on any given day. You
cannot specify a range of QSL dates, I can only
hit F8, type the date in the 'QSL date' box and
hit enter. V5.03 gave me the QSO's of that
specific QSL date, now I get all QSO's that have
been QSL'ed FROM that date up to know, each with
it's own date.

This is not a major flaw, there surely are some
workarounds to be found, but I'd just like to what
happened.

[Dx4win] IRQ & COM PORTS

Yes... But you just select the Com port in DX4Win... The IRQ assignments
are done in Windows... This isn't like DOS programs...

flexibility for those who need to find a "compatible" solution with other

[Dx4win] PSK change is DX4WIN 6.02

I don't see it's broken now... I've tried it here and it works fine on
the COM port... It works fine on the LPT port...

The only issue that I've seen raised is if one is using a different
radio for digital modes... Otherwise why would you need more than one
port to handle PTT. What am I missing?

I am sure glad to see this subject being discussed.  I felt why if it
isn't broke fix it but then was kind of told I was an idiot for thinking
this wasn't a better way.

I still feel "IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT."  and it wasn't broke.

But thankfully there are other PSK-31 program.
