[Elecraft] Can there be a delay before xmit after pressing the XMIT button on my K3?
Howdy K3' people: I use a sequencer which helps ensure that RF does not flow from the K3 before a sensitive LNA is switched out of the RF path. This works if a foot-switch is pressed here. It works when the Tigertronics SignaLink USB closes the sequencer's PTT input. However, the K3's XMIT button will key the rig and I see no wy to have that action tell the Sequencer that it's internal PTT needs activation. This would need doing prior do RF flowing. If there was a way that a delay could be chosen/set to follow the pressing of XMIT button then I might try using the K3 PTT out or the XV144 Key-Out. I would like to think I will not press the K3 XMIT button but that ain't gonna happen as I am likely to use XMIT with a reduced output to tune an external 2m PA . Or, sometimes I am just stupid and press XMIT anyway ... wouldn't be nice to destroy an expensive LNA . especially in the middle of a QSO with a severely weak station. -- 73 KD7YZ Bob __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] Can there be a delay before xmit after pressing the XMIT button on my K3?
On Thursday John_N1JM used a Straight-Key to send: -Original Comment--- In the K3s menu there is a TX Delay setting. Maybe that will accomplish what you need. In any event, irrespective of the delay( and I set it to 30ms anyway), the K3 sends no signal to the sequencer when the K3 is activated by either the CW key/paddle being tapped, nor by the XMIT/Tune (and or) being pressed. Or at least this is what I am seeing as I try to stop myself from doing as I did moments ago and swipping at the Vibroplex key-paddle, which in turn activated the K3 which was in CW mode. Fortunate for me I had the RF lone form the rig unscrewed form the line which goes to the LNA. -- Best regards, Bob KD7YZ http://www.qrz.com/db/KD7YZ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

On 12/19/2013, Ed (KL7UW) sent : I am using a Down East Microwave sequencer with my K3/10 (mainly on VHF with transverters but it will work for any band - keep reading). I was going to get the DEMI seq but was trying with the SSB-DCW2004b since I already have 2 of them. I use the INHIBIT command in the CONFIG menu was wanting to try that but got wound up in what I would have to do with the three Elecraaft transverts I use, 6m, 2m, 70cm. And all hae their won mast mounted pre-amps as well as PA's to sequence. JT65 (digital) is the usual mode I am using on 2m and 70cm. It pulls it lo and is FB to pull the Sequencer into work. Unless I hit the Vibroplex or the xmit button. I will try as you suggested first then will email directly. thanks With the sale of the vhf/uhf transverts, I'd like to see Elecraft start providing internal sequencer. [Elecraft] K3: the actul IF QRG ?
Howdy K3' people: I am playing with the SDR-IQ and a program called SDR-Radio. I previously thought that the K3 IF was 8.215mHz. However, today I ran K3-Utility and the Command Tester. I issued FI; and got back 6550 .. guessing that's a 6.550 megs. So I turned on 6m (internal not my XV500) and put the frequency to 50.067, that of the WZ8D/b , a beacon. I set the SDR-Radio console QRG to this new IF and somewhere around 6.499.094 I get a -80dbm CW ID of WZ8D. I could not find same beacon in the IF when the SDR-Radio QRG was set to rad the SDR-IQ box at 8.215 so what's the real IF of my K3 when the K3-Util command FI; returns 6550? -- 73 KD7YZ Bob __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Elecraft] K3: Is Width of Notch-Filter adjustable in some reasonable amount?
Howdy K3' people: I am looking at some signals I'd like notched out. I am using WSJTx, a Data-Mode .On 30m there is some constant garbage I was trying to remove. However, it seems to be about 100Hz wider than the apparent notching being done, as seen on the Waterfall around 2000 of the WSJTx display. At that time, for me, and on a 300 foot DP, they are really annoyingly strong. On Monday Wilhelm used a Straight-Key to send: -Original Comment--- Bob, Instead of using a notch filter, how about narrowing the DSP filter width to select the signal that you want. Hi Don. And notwithstanding what W4TV said, I am using the DSP, namely the Lo and the Hi, to truncate theends of whichever JT65/JT9 Band-Segment I am on. That I do because the RTTY people have a horrible tendency to get right into the edges of what they perceive is JT65 territory. So I start cutting off the ends, as needed, leaving a fairly orderly slice for JT65/JT9, depending on which CQ I am answering. Some places, or a place, can't remember at the moment, have plethora WSPR and PSK kinda in the middle. [Elecraft] KAT500: Tuning on 6m
Howdy K3' people: There is an 8-element yagi connected to the KAT500 for the K3 internal 6m selected 6m antenna. I set KAT500 default antenna for 6m to Ant2. On the KAT500 I can press 'TUNE' then tap K3 XMIT and the KAT500 will usually settle on or about 1.1:1 . Then when I .run a WSJT, Data, QSO, if the KAT500 is left in AUTO, re-tuning will often take occupy 10 or more seconds of the time before the KAT500 finds a place it likes. Often the SWR is then in the RED or worse, FAULT. Not very often on FAULT however. Mostly what I see are SWR's around 2:1 . (KAT500 in AUTO . If I put KAT500 in BYP, the K3 often shows SWR's of 2 to 3. If left in AUTO, the mismatch is apparent in received audio. Without the KAT500, the antenna itself exhibits a 1.3 SWR consistently . The constant re-tuning or irregular attenuation due to mismatch form KAT500 is annoying. On a weak-signal QSOit means the difference from making the QSO or not decoding. -- 73 KD7YZ Bob __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

I use an SSB-ACS-2004 and an SSB-DCW-2004b, the latter of which runs the necessary 12v to the MHP-145 when the DCW-2004 is keyed/grounded on Pin-3. So I would like to make use of the K# and TX-Inhibit that I have heard so many mention. However, page 11 of the K3 tells me that pin-7 of the Daisy-Chain from K3 to the transverters can activate TX-Inhibit if Pin-7 is grounded. To me, that's not a Toggle, it's a steady state until Pin-7 is released. So all the time I am receiving/listening, TX-H must be activated. The DCW-2004 does not apply output to one of four pins until the DCW-2004b is keyed by ... something, a foot-switch; a PTT output from the K3, or something. I therefore erroneously conclude that nothing is holding TX-INH active until the DCW-2004 sequencer is itself keyed. Therefore I have to ask anyone using TX-INH to guide me through this confusing process. Kinda specialized, however I hope somebody is using it like I wish to do. thanks in advance -- 73 KD7YZ Bob http://www.qrz.com/db/KD7YZ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Elecraft] K3: Use VFO-B to select dBV
Howdy K3' people: According to the Manual, Page 36, I can use VFO-B display to see dBV after AFV settles down. I see the RMS voltage reading but I never get to see the equivalent dBV. [Elecraft] K3: ERR TXG now
Howdy K3' people: This time I see ERR TXG while trying to xmit CW on transverter xv50. So I was wondering, am I asking too much from my setup? I want EME on 144 and 432, as I told Elecraft when I was laying it all out to buy over the phone. Does anyone use a K3 with XV50, XV144, XV432, KXREF with external GPS, tcxo's 8-pole matched filters, KAT500, and so forth ?/ Anyone. Because I can not get the three xvters to work together. One at a time xv432 and xv50. But xv432 won't put out more than 7 watts here .. at my place. XV144 won't put out unless I use an inline mini-circuits lowpass filter. Then it only gets 15w out. Here .. in my kludgy setup. XV144 xv50 together in the daisy chain? XV50 won't put out over a half watt. If I use the low-pass then xv50 puts out 30, if you want it, but I run it a lot less. But then, with the low-pass inline, in the daisy chain, the XV144 won't put anything out. The xv144 somebody told my you simply must use a preamp. I believe that as I have trouble hearing a friend with 800 watts and 4 15 element 144mHz yagis at 160 miles from me.I am using two 15 element yagis at 50 feet on a ridge. So what do ya think out there? Have I just put too many add-ons to the K3 to make any of it work reliably? Todays Critical Error messages twice with ERR DSE and once ERR TXG. [Elecraft] K3: remove birdies on a transverter band?
Howdy K3' people: Don was telling me about removing birdies when I mentioned they seemed all over my three transverters. The manual says go to the IF, in this case 28mHz. Well gee ... I don't hear them on 28 megs so I wouldn't be removing anything if I tuned there and said 'remove birdies. Any of you guys see plethora birdies down around 432.0 -432.15 and/of 144.0 -144.2 ?? I was going to try that, if it works, before locating the sources of this monsters. Most seem to not go away if I remove the antenna. Some seem to get loud if I move cables. I could run the rig on a large 12v battery and switch the mains off if I wanted to reset all the microwave and clocks .. and if I remembered to disable the 10k generator that kicks in 30 seconds after a power failure. [Elecraft] XV144 drops power if PWR is moved during xmit in USB mode
Howdy K3' people: Here's another anomoly I can not figure out. Thus by the way does NOT happen with my xv432 module. Put xv144 in USB mode. Use WSJT9 and put it in echo mode. Set it to Auto On which simply sends a few seconds of a single-note Tone then waits to see if something comes back from the moon. Then transmits again, then listens .. and so forth. I was looking at the LED bars on the XV144 and decided to up the power. As soon as my fingers touched the PWR knob, the XV144 ceased output, verified on watt meter also. WSJT9-echo-mode waited then transmitted again. No power out. Stopping WSJT9 and restarting di not help the lack of power out of the xv144. However, if I held-down XMIT ... to Tune, then instantly the LEDS all it up and the watt meter was happy. So I went to the WSJT9 window and pressed to Auto-run again. Echo mode started with full power from the xv144 transverter. I let it go ten or fifteen times. Then I touched the PW knob and began the who sequence all over ... no power out. So I switched Bands to 28 ... started Echo Mode and it went thru its off and on sequences a few times. Then I rotated the PWR knob on the K3 and the Power FROM the K3 varied as much as I had the patience to rotate the PWR knob. But, as I said, I could not replicate this on the XV432. Next I set Mode to SSB and used a microphone/headset to produce speaking and whistle-tones. While I was pinning the meter, so to speak, which whistles, I rotated the power knob and Voila!!! reduced or no power. Ever again .. until I held XMIT (Tune). Thereafter I could key the K3 and shout in the heil headset to make 25 watts out appear. Until I rotated the knob and the xv144 transverter ceased output. This is repeatable on the xv144. -- 73 KD7YZ Bob __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] Odd transverter bugaboo agian --solved
Hi Don, Do you have 50 MHz mapped out in the K3 band mapping? Excellent call, Don ! I'd not fully understood the BND-Map with respect to additional transverter implications, especially that the K3 has 50mhz as does the XV50. So my error was that I'd unmapped XV650 and allowed K3(50) . With regards to the bugaboo about 6m xvter nt functional all the time, Daisy-Chain Plug #2 measured from the end of the chain, had a very very small pigtail extending from where the two cable-bare-ground wires went into that pin on the end. The pigtail allowed contact to the adjacent non-used pin. Now, I can't say that it mattered since the pin is unused in the plug itself. I do knpw that once I clipped the roughly 1/32nd extension that no matter how I twisted-about that cable, the XV50 continued to transmit. 'd missed it I guess the other times I'd opened the connector. Well, I hope this fixed it anyway If I come back in a say or two whining about intermittent output on xvtr then its a different matter. While I have the attention, the outputs power of the XV50 is 30, on its LED's and sorta that on the wattmeter(s). This is good. Except that the indicated drive from the K3, via CONFIG:XV1-PWR, is L . 12 If I allow the setting of 1.0 mw then I can get more out and we know this is absolutely not what we want lest I blow the PA. I'd had it set as the other xvtr's at L 1.0 mw . -- 73 KD7YZ Bob __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] Odd transverter bugaboo agian
Howdy K3' people: I have not solved an annoying bugaboo with the workings of the transverters. So I unchained the three and am trying to get the 6m transverter to stay consistent. the 432 and the 144 will work individually. The 6m one is not-sp-much For example, I have the 6m internal ability to get on six and I have the red-hot, weak-signal ready, xv50. But when I try to transmit, it may or may not actually put out RF/make the LED;s light and make a sound of some internal relay inside it. Or ... I will put out 30 watts. I was calling cq a little while again. I then dialed around looking for 6m beacons. There seems to be certain combinations of buttons I can activate which will make the transverter not put out RF. Sometimes I can shut the power supplies off and come back later and it will transmit. I have inspected cables; swapped cables; twisted turned and shook, looking for loose connections . I am not able, even at the moment, to make the darned thing transmit. Yes, the XV50 light is on. Just out of curiosity, how t=does the 6m transverter know that if I use DxLab Commander to select 50.095 CW, that I am talking about a transverter and not the internal? Cuz, if I go Band-up to 6m, I am on the internal 50meg band. If I i use 'Commander' then I get activation on the XV50 but not always the output. -- 73 KD7YZ Bob __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

If I take the same driving cables for it and put them on the XV50, then I can receive nicely ... EME, for example, yesterday. But when I transmit, or try to, the K3 shows red-LED for xmit; shows 50 to 100mw out, on the K3 RF bars. However, the same power-supply which shows 5 or 6 amps on xmit for the XV432, shows no current when trying to make the xv50 transmit . Also, the inline SSB-Electronics Pre-amp, sequencer, does not remove the pre-amp when keying the K3, meaning that the Sequencer dos not sense RF either ... sort of proven by the external power meter too. [Elecraft] KAT500 question
Howdy K3' people: I have a KAT500. The Auto green LED is lit. I have previously tuned to the best it could get on 17m. This morning it is drizzling. The 450 ladder can sometimes act up when it is raining. So I begin a JT9, one-minute long, sequence. Next I hear a little chatter and see the Red-LED come on for SWR=3. The Auto LED is now flashing. No tuning is taking place and the one-minute transmission finishes. I press hold the XMIT/TUNE button and the KAT500 finds a nice SWR of 1.1 . Next sequence comes around and the K3 switches to xmit. The KAT500 chatters maybe once and the Red SWR LED comes on again. The Auto LED is now flashing. I can do nothing about this while the K3 is transmitting. Technically I should kill the XMIT and correct the SWR problem. We all know this. Fortunately I was running but 5 watts on the JT9-1 mode so I don't believe I did any damage. When I used my Palstar AT2K tuner, and it was raining, I'd see the VSWR climb, and knowing the cause, would just manually turn a knob and keep the SWR down. It seems that it can, though I only got one chance to see it as the drizzle let off, Keeping such high power though on this mode is not only unnecessary but it also serves to Jam a lot of the other guys who are using this weak signal mode. [Elecraft] KAT500 doesn't retain freq setting?
Howdy K3' people: I've noticed that when I QSY to another band, by pressing a memory on DX-Labs 'Commander' that the KAT500 does not arrive there and have the previous settings retained. So when I start a call, the SWR is usually quite high. I've gone thru the bands, made settings, stored them. [Elecraft] K3 KAT500 'Err AT3' recurring
Howdy K3' people: I asked this one before. Apparently I never resolved it and I vcan't make it quit. So am asking again. Every time I power on the K3, I see the error 'ERR AT3'. 1. There is always power on the KAT500 before the K3 power is on 2. If I 'Tap' the ATU TUNE button the VFO-B line is BYPASS 3. Tap 'TUNE' button on KAT500 and some very brief clattering then KAT500 'AUTO' remains green-flashing endlessly until tapped again. This takes me to another question: When I actually do try to tune a frequency, I would like to press the Dash paddle on the Vibroplex in the old Semi mode where a hold on the Dash-Paddle produces an endless dash until the Opr lets up on the paddle ... however the Dot paddle produces endless dots my original Vibroplex, which I still have, was this way as there were no Keyers then. If that's not possible, then how do you hold-the-key-down to adjust for SWR? Tapping the old space-paddle very gingerly was my best way of ever-so-briefly seeing if anything was going to blow-up when I go key-down. Reaction time to push a radio Key or XMIT button is far, far, to slow to avoid major mishap .. sometimes anyway. tnx -- 73 es DX de KD7YZ Bob __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Elecraft] K3 with SDR-IQ and external antenna for SDR-IQ?
Howdy K3' people: Here's another one I am trying to solve. What if I want to receive down at 17.2KHz sometimes ... or certainly below 4 or 500KHz, the base of the K3? Well,, that connection to the IF, was handy and safe, but now I need external antenna. Also, it is safest of when the SDR-IQ is not to the IF that we switch the SDR-IQ input to maybe a 50 ohm dummy during xmit cycle of K3. Anyone have this worked out? What equipment re you using and what connection from K3 does the switching. I have sequencer's for my 6m EME pre-amp ... just wondering what anyone else does with the K3? Re: [Elecraft] K3 with SDR-IQ and external antenna for SDR-IQ?
Don tapped out: To receive VLF you will need a VLF converter. Well, that would be neat if Elecraft made one ... would integrate nicely. Then, since all I want to do is RX, I'd be isolated and not worry about frying the SDR-IQ. However, that's not the case, so I have to run an antenna straight into the SDR-IQ, and I have already done this twice. The first time, I was handily listening down at 17KHz with just the antenna to the SDR-IQ. Second time I was also xmit on the K3 and tuning the 450 ladder line. The SDR took a hit, I fear. Thus, I want to switch the SDR-IQ's antenna input OFF whatever existing external antenna she has WHEN I hit xmit on the K3. Call it a precaution. Won't have anything to do with xmit on the K3 nor Rx. Just the fact I want to externally close a relay that puts the SDR-IQ into 50-ohm lad when K3 xmit. This is essentially what we do with some high-end Pre-amps for EME. I was hoping somebody in the list had already solved the mechanics. The IF connection on the K3 is only an output, so the converter will connect to one of the antenna inputs to the K3. If it is to be receive only, you could connect to the RX antenna input or to the ANT1 or ANT2 connections of the KAT3, or to the RX port of the KXV3. If the external device is to transmit as well as receive, you can connect it to one of the KAT3 antenna jacks, or if it is capable of 1 mW IF transmit levels, connect it to the same IF connectors as used for the VHF/UHF transverters. 73, Don W3FPR On 12/16/2012 6:31 PM, KD7YZ Bob wrote: Howdy K3' people: Here's another one I am trying to solve. [Elecraft] K3 + SDR-IQ and regular CW operation
Howdy K3' people: I was wondering what precautions are taken, or I need to invoke, when I use any form of transmitting? At present, the SDR-IQ is connected to the K3's IF BNC. K3's output is through KAT500 then outside to the antenna some distance away at 80 to 85 feet AGL. Power, while I am testing, is circa 5 to 10 watts. So I keyed the K3 a few times; called CQ, and so forth. I see my own trace on the WF of CW-Skimmer, which is set to operate with SDR-IQ as its Input . Am I golden? [Elecraft] Put my new KAT500 thru the wringers today
Howdy K3' people: Got my factory-built KAT500 today. Despite the missing cable (paid for) E850463, I figured out how to run it manually. They did send along a strange 3ft RCA RG59 cable though. right now the cat's playing with it. Getting an automatic AT, for me, was kinda just a laughing point. I quizzed Dave about it rather heavily. Me and Marconi weren't sure young Dave could be right on all counts since he hasn't seen the wire here. But I thought it would be fun to switch bands rapidly, and without my short clip-board and penciled columns of the current settings for the wonderful Palstar AT2K tuner. Well, I started at 160m and went thru 60m and finished at 10m. Didn't miss anything. There was the clattering expected; the metering reported wonderfully high SWR's as she tried to figure out how to match the 110' section of 450 fed with a few loops of coax at the shack end. I got to raise my eyebrows in that All-Too-Certain of ones-self that we get after operating on a few continents with wire and one of the combat tours I had a 1500 foot V-beam ... That was before most of your respective times though. So I was about to say Ah HAH! when the noise stopped. Gave up, did ya?? .. The last number I saw on the K3 was something like 98:1 ... hahahahahahahahaha ... But it was quiet and now the K3 said !.1:1 One-point-one to one? I asked .. OK, I lost that one on 160 .. so on to make it fail somewhere else. By 30 meters I was having fun because the pragmatic side of me knew this was going to be wa tooo KEWL ... IF she made it to ten. Somewhere in 280 feet of wire at 80 feet, there must be a rotten mis-match that the slim little beastie can't handle. Guess I was wrong. Kudos to Dave at Elecraft for steering me to the KAT500. K# is perched on a thin mat of that rubber-cloth ya get at Wal-Mart sewing area. Who knows, if I get a cable I think it will be automated. There is a Computer Interface Cable which has a 3.5mm one-end and USB the other. That's into the computer now but I have no idea who talks to it. K3-Utility didn't anyway. Nice piece of gear. In a week or two my 1200' wire goes up .. gotta have something for the diversity setup. Wonder if I can bamboozle the KAT500 on that one. Coax-balun to 600-ohm ladder to the wire .. heh heh heh heh If you don't have one and wonder if it will load into your stealth clothesline, there is a good chance it will. [Elecraft] K3 Split-Mode CW pressing Rev Problem
Howdy K3' people: I tried out my new K3 attempting to jump into the ZL9HR melee on 40m. I set VFO-B for my TX freq, way-up from his xmit. I set VFO-A to listen to the ZL. I set QSK-full VOX . Sometimes I wanted to Rx on MY Xmit freq to see if I was 'maybe' close to where he was currently listening. And Sometimes after I did that, VFO-A, ostensibly the freq I was trying to copy the ZL on, became the same as VFO-B, the freq I was transmitting on. On Wednesday Smith used a Straight-Key to send: -Original Comment--- Bob WSJT-9 was devolved to be used for 30m and down, low bands only and best on 80/160m was never meant for the higher bands like20m. That is likely the original intent when JT was developing JT9. Once it got in the wild and many of us tried this and that, it has proven far better than JT65a at DXing weak signal conditions from 160m to 6m. And I for one have used it in the aforementioned bands. It's also been used very nicely on EME. Yesterday's testing by me revealed that when I had a station reduce power, and he went eventually from +30db to -9db, I got sync=2 and 3 but no decode. Thus my original question about 'Could this mean we can hear a weaker signal because we use a 400Hz filter', results in a No answer empirically. So far. I'll have to try the Heil cans .. might be a nifty way to hear the other freq. So, what then is the correct way to work CW split since I have a matched Sub-Rx in the K3? And replying to what Dick suggested that I and accidently pressed AB, I just now tried to make it happen and all I got was VFO-A became the DX station where I w as listening. Thus A did then equal B ... where B was the intended XMIT freq .. it was now the DX station AND also still the xmit (bad) in a pileup What I saw was B original was 8kHz up from the Dx and was my correct xmit. A was the DX freq and where I wanted to RX. Pressing something, albeit the intended button or not on my part, put B over A ... Re: [Elecraft] Settings for CW filter 400hz
On Wednesday Smith used a Straight-Key to send: -Original Comment--- If anyone is using a very narrow filter for JT9 please tell us how it works for you in that mode. I think more than a few of us are exploring this new mode Joe has brought out. I used it on about 15 contacts yesterday, 20m .. What I saw on the readings were every Report which was generated was = +30 . What I heard was that all the adjacent QRM crud was non-existent. In fact, using Shift I could eliminate one of you guys 20hz away in a legitimate QSO and still decode and get the +30 reports. So I posited a question to the academics which revolved about the notion I had that If the sig-rep is really +30, here, in the mind of the JT9-Genie inside my Win7 machine, then that should mean that I could also hear down to the typical level of -25 and decode. So, my non-Professor of Radio Astronomy brain decided that a guy running 5 watts from France, who was getting +30 from me, should be able to reduce power 20 db, and I should be able to decode him .. well, or her, but I dunno any French Amateur Radio girls ennaweh, so guys stands. However. it's a real Juggle for me, the Newbie-K3 driver, to try and balance all the 4 to 6 setting possibilities and wind up with a visible trace. I won't believe this is actually making weaker signals possible until I have somebody systematically reduce the output power on his end of the planet while i write down the sig-reps. [Elecraft] Help choosing
Howdy K3' people: for several days I have gone over and over the fine details of accessories and must-haves on the K3 pages. The result is that I have a general idea of what I need. However, I'd like to have several users tell me what to keep on the list and what to toss-or-add. Primary concern here, usually, not always, is JT65 or CW on 10-10m. 6 meters a lot of weak signal and some EME using, again, JT65 .. meteor-scatter with FSK441 and tropo-dx with ISCAT. I want to get back onto EME on both 2m and 432 . The transverter selections actually confused me in that it's not obvious how an antenna gets connected to them. And, what's the advantage on 2m of the X-verter versus the built-into the K3? Filters ... and the TCXO ''' that seemed logical .. what filters then. Do I need a filter for each transverter as well as the second Rx and the main Rx? I like to run the CW-Skimmer. Is the K3 able to receive wider than my not-so-appropriate FT-950? Can I run JT65hf on one K3 receiver, say on 20m and the other Rx be running JT65HF-RX on 10m? Or CW-Skimmer on the other? If you here/copy someone on one RX, can youeasily/quickly switch the Tx portion to the respective receiver so as to make the call? Since the Digital modes take access to a soundcard, how are some of you using two different Bands Rx input from a soundcard to whatever program (JT6gHF, HRD, FLDigi) for example? Pardon the deeply detailed questions, I am able to do a moderate level with the old FT-950 but want more; want wider receiving sometimes; want true ability to simultaneously rx then transmit on two or more bands where xverter or main rig is listening Single-Op multi bands or whatever they call it. Thanks for the patience. If it's too complex for an Email list then just send to me direct email either way, I'd like the answer to order the right things. -- 73 KD7YZ Bob __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
