So, Prophet Muhammed plagarised the whole thing, altered a few names here and there, and turned it into a Jehadi con-job, which worked just as well..!! Right now there are atleast 3 billion people who still follow this Judeo-christian-Jehadi con-job.! [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Date: Wed, 3 May 2006 18:20:43

[FairfieldLife] Mad-Cow, Dirt-Hogs, NOW, Shit-Eating Fishes of Asia

2006-05-02 Thread Jason Spock

UtilitiesA bone to pick Thursday April 20 2006 17:21 IST Maneka
GandhiBecause the oceans of the world have been decimated by over-fishing and rivers are increasing being polluted, people are beginning to eat more farmed fish. When you eat farmed fish you don’t just eat a creature brought up in a sterile pond. You also eat the dead bodies and manure of chickens, pigs and ducks. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation calls this system ‘Integrated Livestock Fish Farming’ and says it should be done in developing countries to help the poor get protein. In spite of the Mad Cow crisis when cattle were fed sheep meat, no one seems to be worried about the feeding of faeces to fish which will be consumed by humans. Few people know that most pond-fed
farmed fish in India are fed on a diet of human waste and sewage. And the countries that use human faeces to feed fish are India, China, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Korea, Indonesia, and Nigeria. I have seen how it works. Small plots of dug out land are given on contract to poor people in the villages for fish farming. These aquaculture ponds are stocked with fish, and used as bathrooms by the owners and their friends, to wash cattle, and throw manure into. Every few weeks, the fish are taken out and sold in the local market. The ponds stink and are covered with a green slime. Basically these are toilets that pay for themselves - an economic sulabh shauchalaya. Raising fish on excreta, nightsoil or wastewater is encouraged by fishery experts, (bureaucrats who come around once in a while) as it is ‘‘natural food’’ for fish. It does not matter that human or animal faecal solids, use of raw sewage or fresh nightsoil in fish ponds should be prohibited for health
reasons. A wide range of fish species have been cultivated in aquaculture ponds receiving human waste, including common carp, Indian major carps, Chinese silver carp, pighead carp, grass carp, crucian carp, Nile carp, tilapia, milkfish, catfish, kissing gouramy, giant gourami, silver barb and freshwater prawns. The selection reflects local culture rather than fish optimally suited to such feeding. For example, Chinese carps and Indian major carps are the major species in excreta-fed systems in China and India. Tilapia are better suited to excreta-fed systems but carp is eaten more as is milkfish which does poorly in these adverse environmental conditions. Many of these ponds that are fertilised with human excreta grow duckweed which is used not just as feed for carp but also for chickens and ducks. Every now and then the overload of excreta and toxic sewage hits the oxygen supply and all the fish come belly up. Ever so often you hear of
thousands of fish dead in lakes that are fed with the town’s sewage. This happens mainly at night when the phytoplankton have higher rates of respiration and so the dissolved oxygen in the water becomes less. The phytoplankton develop as a result of the nutrients contained in the waste. Phytoplankton provide feed for the largest percentage of fish farmed in Asia. Fish also die when the bacterial load becomes too much for their frail bodies to bear. One of the main reasons for ponds ‘‘failing’’ is high ammonia concentration in the waste thrown into the pond. After both sewage and faeces have large amounts of urea and urine. Ammonia is toxic to fish in the concentration range 0.2 - 2.0 mg/l. However, the tolerance of different species of fish varies, with tilapa species being least affected by high ammonia levels. In ponds receiving large quantities of ‘‘organic matter’’ (this is the scientific term used by the industry for excreta and sewage so as not to
drive you away!), sediments accumulate and release chemicals such as methane and sulphides. Though dissolved oxygen is essential to the fish at 5 mg/1, the level in excreta-fed ponds is usually at an absolute minimum of a little less than 1mg/l leading to many other diseases that are undetected by the fish grower but will show up in the fish eater. Scientists say that, while yields are satisfactory from waste fed fish ponds, higher yields could be achieved if the fish were fed other foods such as cereals. They also say pond nutrition needs to be diversified from just faeces. I could have told them that! How much weight can a fish put on by just eating excreta? But this is not going to happen ecause cereals cost money and excreta is free. What are the health impacts of eating sewage and human faeces via fish? For one, human faeces is very toxic in itself. Sewage has heavy metals and persistent pesticides
in it and these concentrate themselves in the body of the fish. Today fish are the largest PCB (a set of carcinogenic chemicals), heavy metal and mercury carriers in the world. Fish that eat algae, phytoplankton, duckweed that eat the faeces and sewage accumulate heavy metals and poisonous chemicals just as fast in these sewage ponds. Do you think a fresh healthy fish

May 2, 2006Editor The HinduINDUS SIGNS IN THE SOUTHSir: The discovery of a stone axe with signs found on the Indus Valley seals is
certainly significant, but we need to exercise caution and not jump to hasty conclusions. To begin with similar signs have been found in caves in Kodumalai in Tamil Nadu and in Anakodai in Jaffna (Sri Lanka). Mahadevan's claim that the language of the
Indus Valley was Dravidian because he reads a Tamil sounding word (Murukan) in these four signs is far fetched. It is his opinion only that is not supported by any methodology. One can similarly claim that Ashoka's Brahmi inscriptions are in Tamil because early Tamil used a version of Brahmi. All we can say at this time is that the Indus Valley people had connectons with the south, just as they did with West Asia, where too examples of Indus writing have been found.Sincerely, N.S. Rajaram BOOK ANNOUNCEMENTSarasvati River and the Vedic Civilization: History, science and politics by N.S. Rajaram The discovery of the Sarasvati River, lauded in the Vedas as the greatest river, and the decipherment of the 5000-year old Indus script are the two most important breakthroughs in Indian history to have taken place in recent decades. The story of Sarasvati’s rediscovery in our time is also the story of the rediscovery of Vedic India. Here is a book on these epoch making developments by one who has been at the center of these developments. The book shows unequivocally— Harappan civilization was Vedic. Harappan archaeology represents the material remains of the culture and civilization described in the Vedic literature, and flourished in the same geographic regions. In the present book, N.S. Rajaram, a scientist as well as historian, marshals evidence from a wide range of
sources, from archaeology and astronomy to the newly deciphered Indus seals, to shed light on the origins and the achievements of probably the most important civilization in world history. He goes beyond current theories and highlights important facts about natural history and population genetics that point to climate changes in Southeast Asia and the coastal regions rather than invasions from Central
Asia or Eurasia as holding the keys to understanding the origins of the Vedic civilization. In the process he settles important questions like the “Aryan invasion” and the “Harappan horse” by
exposing the political currents and the personalities that gave rise to the brand of history imposed on the children of India by colonial authorities and their present day followers. To place it in the historical context, the book includes a summary of the current state of these politically motivated moves, including the recent controversy over textbooks used in California schools. Rajaram is a mathematician, linguist and historian who after a twenty-year career as an academic and industrial researcher in the
United States turned his attention to history, in which he has several notable achievements. He collaborated with the renowned Vedic scholar Dr. Natwar Jha on the decipherment of the 5000 year old Indus script leading to their epoch making work The Deciphered Indus
Script. In May 1999, Rajaram deciphered the newly discovered sample of what has been called the “world’s oldest writing,” showing it to be related to the Rigveda. Most recently, by a detailed study of human population genetics, he has shown that the people of India are not recent immigrants but have lived in the region for tens of thousands of years. He sees history as an extension of natural history rather than as a field for political and social theories.Publisher: Aditya Prakashan, New Delhi; Availability: June 2006

[FairfieldLife] Indus-Sarasvati Script in South-India

2006-05-01 Thread Jason Spock

Front Page "Discovery of a century" in
Tamil Nadu T.S. Subramanian Stone axe with Indus Valley script found near Mayiladuthurai CHENNAI: A Neolithic stone celt with the Indus Valley script has been discovered by a school teacher, V. Shanmuganathan, in a village called Sembian-Kandiyur near Mayiladuthurai in Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. The celt, a polished hand-held stone axe, has four Indus Valley signs on it. The artefact with the script can be as old as 1500 B.C., that is, 3,500 years old. The four signs were identified by epigraphists of the Tamil Nadu Department of Archaeology, according to its Special Commissioner, T. S. Sridhar. Iravatham
Mahadevan, one of the world's foremost experts on the Indus script, called the find "the greatest archaeological discovery of a century in Tamil Nadu." The discovery proved that the Indus script had reached Tamil Nadu. He estimated the date of the artefact with the script to be around 1500 B.C. "I have cautiously and conservatively put it between 2000 B.C. and 1500 B.C.," Mr. Mahadevan said. It was in the classical Indus script. He ruled out the possibility of the celt coming from North India because "the material of this stone is clearly of peninsular origin." Harappa and Mohenjo-daro, where hundreds of seals with the Indus script were discovered, are in present-day Pakistan. Neolithic means New Stone Age and it is datable in India between 2000 B.C. and 1000 B.C. According to Mr. Mahadevan, the first sign on the celt depicted a skeletal body with ribs. The figure
is seated on his haunches, body bent and contracted, with lower limbs folded and knees drawn up. The second sign showed a jar. Hundreds of this pair have been found on seals and sealings at Harappa. Mr Mahadevan read the first sign as "muruku" and the second sign as "an." In other words, it is "Murukan." The earliest references in Old Tamil poetry portrayed him as a "wrathful killer," indicating his prowess as a war god and hunter. The third sign looked like a trident and the fourth like a crescent with a loop in the middle. Mr. Mahadevan commented that the latest discovery was very strong evidence that the Neolithic people of Tamil Nadu and the Indus Valley people "shared the same language, which can only be Dravidian and not Indo-Aryan." He added that before this discovery, the southernmost occurrence of the Indus script was at Daimabad, Maharashtra on the Pravara River in the Godavari
Valley. Front Page Significance of Mayiladuthurai find T.S. Subramanian Links between Harappa and Neolithic Tamil NaduRARE FIND: The Neolithic polished stone celt (hand-held axe) with the Indus valley script found at Sembian-Kandiyur village, near Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu. — Photo: Vino John CHENNAI: The discovery of a Neolithic stone celt, a hand-held axe, with the Indus script on it at Sembian-Kandiyur in Tamil Nadu is, according to Iravatham Mahadevan, "a major discovery because for the first time a text in the Indus script has been found in the State on a datable artefact, which is a polished neolithic
celt." He added: "This confirms that the Neolithic people of Tamil Nadu shared the same language family of the Harappan group, which can only be Dravidian. The discovery provides the first evidence that the Neolithic people of the Tamil country spoke a Dravidian language." Mr. Mahadevan, an eminent expert on the subject, estimated the date of the artefact with the Indus script between 2000 B.C. and 1500 B.C. It was in February 2006, when V. Shanmuganathan, a school teacher living in Sembian-Kandiyur, near Mayiladuthurai in Nagapattinam district, dug a pit in the backyard of his house to plant banana and coconut saplings, that he encountered two stone celts. The teacher, who is interested in archaeology, rang up his friend G. Muthusamy, Curator of the Danish Fort Museum at Tranquebar, which belongs to the Tamil Nadu Department of Archaeology. Mr. Muthusamy, who also belongs to the same village, took charge of the two celts
from his friend and handed them over to T.S. Sridhar, Special Commissioner, State Department of Archaeology. When Mr. Sridhar examined one of the two stones, he found some engravings on it. So he asked the epigraphists of his Department to study the particular celt. To their absolute delight, they found fours signs on it - and all four of them corresponded with the characters in the Indus script. When the celt with the Indus script was shown to Mr. Mahadevan, he confirmed that they were in the Indus script. The celt with the script measures 6.5 cm by 2.5 cm by 3.6 cm by 4 cm. It weighs 125 grams. The other celt has no engravings on it. Mr. Mahadevan, one of the world's foremost scholars on the Indus and the Tamil-Brahmi scripts, is the author of the seminal work, The Indus Script: Texts, Concordance and Tables. It was published by the Archaeological Survey of India, New

[FairfieldLife] Re: The Happiness Formula

2006-05-01 Thread Jason Spock

This reminds me of an old Joke, What is the difference between Recession and Depression.? When you neighbour loses his job, it's Recession, When you lose your job, it's Depression.! claudiouk [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Date: Mon, 01 May 2006 21:12:57 -Subject: [FairfieldLife] The Happiness Formulahttp://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/happiness_formula/4783836.stmThe science of happiness By Mike Rudin Series producer, The Happiness Formula A new six-part BBC series, starting this week, looks at the newest research from around the world to find out what could it be that makes us happy. We all want to be happy but the problem has always been that you can't measure happiness. Happiness has always been seen
as too vague a concept, as Lord Layard, Professor of Economics at the LSE and author of "Happiness - lessons from a new science" points out. "There is a problem with the word happiness. "When you use the word happy, it often has the sort of context of balloons floating up into the sky or something frivolous." Now scientists say they can actually measure happiness. Neuroscientists are measuring pleasure. They suggest that happiness is more than a vague concept or mood; it is real. Measuring happiness Social scientists measure happiness simply by asking people how happy they are. It is argued that what a person says about their own happiness tends to tally with what friends or even strangers might say about them if asked the same question. Most people say they are fairly happy. The leading American psychologist Professor Ed Diener from the University of Illinois, told The
Happiness Formula that the science of happiness is based on one straightforward idea: "It may sound silly but we ask people 'How happy are you 1-7, 1-10? "And the interesting thing is that produces real answers that are valid, they're not perfect but they're valid and they predict all sorts of real things in their lives." One type of measurement even tries to record people's levels of happiness throughout the day wherever they are. Ecological momentary assessment uses hand held computers. The person being quizzed is bleeped and then taken through a questionnaire. "The measures are not perfect yet I think they are in many ways as good as the measures economists use," said Professor Diener. It is a remarkable claim. Simply by asking people, we have a measure of happiness that is as good as the economists' measure of poverty or growth. And if true, governments could be judged by
how happy they make us. An adviser to the Prime Minister, David Halpern, told us that within the next 10 years the government would be measured against how happy it made everybody. Power of happiness Happiness seems to have almost magical properties. We have not got proof, but the science suggests it leads to long life, health, resilience and good performance. Scientists work by comparing people's reported happiness and a host of other factors such as age, sex, marital status, religion, health, income, unemployment and so on. In survey after survey involving huge groups of people, significant correlations between happiness and some other factors are repeated. At the moment scientists cannot prove causation, whether for example people are healthy because they are happy, or whether people are happy because they are healthy. However, psychologists have been able to identify some
very strong links. According to Professor Diener the evidence suggests that happy people live longer than depressed people. "In one study, the difference was nine years between the happiest group and the unhappiest group, so that's a huge effect. "Cigarette smoking can knock a few years off your life, three years, if you really smoke a lot, six years. "So nine years for happiness is a huge effect." Richer but no happier Happiness researchers have been monitoring people's life satisfaction for decades. Yet despite all the massive increase in our wealth in the last 50 years our levels of happiness have not increased. "Standard of living has increased dramatically and happiness has increased not at all, and in some cases has diminished slightly," said Professor Daniel Kahneman of the University of Princeton. "There is a lot of evidence that being richer... isn't making us
happier" The research suggests that richer countries do tend to be happier than poor ones, but once you have a home, food and clothes, then extra money does not seem to make people much happier. It seems that that level is after average incomes in a country top about £10,000 a year. Scientists think they know the reason why we do not feel happier despite all the extra money and material things we can buy. First, it is thought we adapt to pleasure. We go for things which give us short bursts of pleasure whether it is a chocolate bar or buying a new car. But it quickly wears off. Second, its thought that we tend to see our life as judged against other people. We compare our lot against others. Richer

Genetists say, a single mutation in a single gene can change colour and characteristics. Evolution does not take place slowly and gradually, but in fits and bursts. There is a lot of genetic evidence for this. Genetic testing shows that there is very little genetic variations in Humans. On the contrary, there are huge genetic variations in other animals and plants even in a small locality. Take elephants for instance, even in a small locality there are wide range of genetic variations. These variations are completely missing only in humans. Genetic
Scientists like Dr. Spencer Wells traced it back to a point 70,000 years ago when population dwindled down to a few hundreds. This was somewhere in South-Africa. Pigment was one of the major mysteries untill a Lady scientist finally cracked it. In the tropics where there is abundance of UV radiation, one needed black pigments to protect the skin. But as humans started coming out of Africa and started moving north Sunlight became scarce in higher latitudes. Vitamin-D also became scarce. The skin became white so that whatever little Vitamin-D that could be squeezed out of the sunlight enabled them to survive. Those who had dark skins could not manufacture enough Vitamin-D in Sun-starved latitudes and died of rickets. Having a white skin bacame essential for survival in
Cold-Latitudes. This change happened around 40,000 years ago when the first humans entered Europe when the world was in the thick of an ice-age. Look into Dr. Spencer Wells research on National Geographic channel. A single common ancestor in South-Africa 60,000 years ago. Colour Black, Negroid. https://www3.nationalgeographic.com/genographic/about.html At that time sea levels were 120 metres lower. From the tip of South-Africa to Australia to tip of South-America was one Unbroken Coast-Line. My dear unknown Virtual friend, The problem is with India's Political system. A rotten, dumb and stupid Political system. A real piece of shit system. India is a huge country. Don't get fooled by the Mercator Map. The Map creates spatial distortion and stretches out the regions in the poles and makes them loook larger. India is bigger than Alaska or Scandinavia. 50 years of Socialism and caste-based job reservations has frustrated the population and caused Brain-Drain. Even today, india has 300 million people living below poverty line. Corruption is open and brazenly done. My friend went to Kashi and he told me a frightening story. If you go on an boat ride on river Ganges, and if you happen to carry a lot of money or jewels, the scouts who watch you pass the information to the divers. They come swimming underwater and topple your boat and grab everything you have and allow you to drown,!! Few incidents like these have made even the pilgrims wary of taking a boat-ride in Kashi.ShempMcGurk [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Date: Sat, 29 Apr 2006 00:05:20 -Subject: [FairfieldLife] Re: Condom and Dirt - Found in Pepsi bottleAfter 5 weeks in India -- this was around '82 -- I
remember that the only time I felt relaxed was when I boarded the Pan Am 747 and was sitting on the tarmac at Dehli airport. Although still in the country of India, I felt enveloped in the womb of western technology and felt completely protected. Ten, is that all? That is actually quite lower than I would think. Actually my comment was about how many people hustle a living in India. Tourists are a prime target. Ever been there? Almost every body you deal with looks at you like you are the bank and I'm gonna get some money! In Rishikesh, I had a Purusha warn me and a friend about a scam in New Delhi in Connaught Circle, where somebody flicks something on your shoe that looks like Bird Sh*t and then
another guy runs up to you wanting to clean it off for a few rupees. Sure enough, my friend and I went through this particular place and a guy came running up to me and pointed out what looked like BS on my white shoes and asked to clean it off. I told him to get lost or I would call the police and that I was aware of the scam. This is just one scam . People are always looking for a way to squeeze a few rupees out of each tourist. If it was just an occasional thing it would be laughable, but it is non stop from the time you get off the plane till the time you get on to leave. Condom in the Pepsi bottle just makes me think the scam artists are setting their sites higher these days. Sue the Bastards!

And in terms of the oil problem, I recommend we stop quibbling over insignificant resources such as The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and spending hundreds of billions on wars to secure oil we may never lay hands on, and shift the whole paradigm to energy independence. If Bush had done that instead of pursuing this war, he might have been remembered as one of our greatest presidents, instead of our worst, as will probably be the case (see cover story in this month's Rolling Stone).

You reach one-millionth of a degree above absolute zero, then, one-billionth and then, one-trillionth and then, one-quadrillionth, etc etc . forever and ever. The example given is that of a Rabbit jumping towards a Carrot. Each jump is half of the previous jump. The first jump is 4 feet, the sevond jump is 2 feet and the next jump is half of that etc etc The Rabbit will
keep jumping for ever but it will never reach the Carrot. Dr. Hagelin states that No computer or machine or equipment can access the Unified field of Consciousness. [FairfieldLife] Re: Hear Neil Young, Help Stop the War

2006-04-29 Thread Jason Spock

I'm not a War-Monger. War should always be a last resort. All I am saying is that Bush.jr chose the wrong time to go to war. It's not a good idea to open too many fronts at a time. About Nature, Don't take it literaly. It was just a figurative _expression_. The point is that the suffering and misery of iraqi people has to be ended. How would you feel if your children were thrown into Meat cleaving machines in front of your eyes.? That's what happened to political opponents of Saddam. Do you know what Saddam did to old Baath party members whe he took full control in 1980.? Do you know that Uday Hussain and Quasay Hussain picked any girls they fancied walking on the streets, took them to GuestHouses, raped them and the took them to the Baghdad Zoo and threw them to the Lions and smoked Cigars as the girls screamed on being torn apart by the Lions.?? Do you know that Iraq is the only country in the world in which Professional rapists were employed by the Saddam regime.?? Their only job is to
rape.!! The word "Torture" lost all meaning in iraq, when eyes, ears and tongues were routinely pulled out of prisoners. Bush.jr intentions were good. The timing was wrong. But bringing democracy to middle-east is necessary. The politics of the Cold-War made it impossible then. But now dictatorships cannot be tolerated. jim_flanegin [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Date: Sat, 29 Apr 2006 20:57:46 -Subject: [FairfieldLife]

I can assure you it's true. They are not our friends. They are Bill Clinton's friends. Clinton sold them missile nose-cones that improve the accuracy of missiles by more than 600% percent.!! Clinton also took bribes from Chinese government for his campaign funds. While the Chinese were building up the trade imbalance, Clinton was busy with his nose-cone with Monica. Don't blame Bush.jr for all this. Bush is going to come down hard on China for not free-floating their yuan currency and abuse of human rights. jim_flanegin [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Date: Sat, 29 Apr 2006 21:43:59 -Subject: [FairfieldLife] Re: Hear Neil Young, Help Stop the WarYou should read up on the practices of our good good friends and buddies, the communist Chinese (US trade deficit for 2005: $200B). Then you may rethink why we are in Iraq, and not China. Every country at war vilifies its enemies to justify killing them.
It also conveniently overlooks the atrocities of countries that it needs as strategic allies. So, great story you have going about the reason we invaded Iraq. The thing is, it isn't true. Oh well.

Thanks Sri. Sumner.I'll look into it.I don't support Bush 100% percent. I didn't support his Social security policies. What I meant is that on principle, we shouldgoand help suffering and suppressed people. America came to the help of Europe and Asia in the WW2. Even today those principles dont change. [FairfieldLife] Re: Hear Neil Young, Help Stop the War

2006-04-29 Thread Jason Spock

If I remember correctly, Bush.jr did make a point in his meeting with the Chinese premier on democracy. The priorities of the cold war made Nixon resume diplomatic ties with China. Something had to be done to counter Soviet-Union, that was the first priority. But, it was really Henry kissinger's idea. He feigned illness in Pakistan and a handwritten note from Yahaya khan in pakistan to Zhou EnLai was taken by Kissinger to China. But, remember, Nixon was undecided till the very last moment, to choose between India and China.During achat between Zhou EnLai and Nixon, EnLai asked Nixon, "Have you read Nehru's book 'discovery of india"? Kissinger sensed that Nixon had not read that book. So he immediately butted in, "He was thinking of a great indian empire.!!!" Immediately EnLai also butted in and said, "Yes Yes, He was thinking of an great indian empire from Malayasia to Ceylon to Afghanistan and it would probably include our tibet as well." Nixon tilted towards China. But the whole project
was Kissinger's doing. jim_flanegin [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Date: Sat, 29 Apr 2006 22:25:38 -Subject: [FairfieldLife] Re: Hear Neil Young, Help Stop the WarI don't dispute Saddam Hussein's atrocities. Oops, I forgot, you enjoy living in the political past-- well then wouldn't it be most accurate to say all of this friendliness with the Chinese is actually...Nixon's fault, for resuming
diplomatic relations with them in 71?When? He just had his chance a week ago with the Chinese premier and said nothing, zip. You are indulging your story again...

[FairfieldLife] Condom and Dirt - Found in Pepsi bottle

2006-04-28 Thread Jason Spock

TOP STORIESApr 28, 2006Click Home to get Latest
EditionArchives Dated: 27 April 2006Condom in sealed bottle; Pepsi fined Rs 1 lakhThursday April 27 2006 00:00 IST PTI NEW DELHI: Soft drink giant Pepsi has been ordered to pay over Rs
1 lakh compensation by a city consumer court after a man found a condom inside a sealed bottle of the company.‘‘This case is an eye-opener for others who are engaged in manufacturing soft drinks and are required to maintain the prescribed standards of purity in public interest during the course of their business activities,’’ consumer disputes redressal forum (north) comprising president KK Chopra and members RK Prabhakar and Neeru Mittal said.Terming the case ‘‘rare’’ with a serious bearing on the public health, the court directed Pepsico India Holdings Ltd to pay Rs 1 lakh towards the consumer legal aid fund and Rs 20,000 as damages to the complainant.Complainant Sudesh Sharma, a resident of Ujhani village here, had purchased two bottles of Pepsi from a retail shop near Kashmere Gate in the capital in year 2003.He started suffering from severe dyspepsia and headache, followed by insomnia, after drinking from one of the
bottles. His condition worsened over a period of time and he had to seek medical treatment. Meanwhile, Sharma, on inspecting the bottle from which he had drunk, found dirt and other contaminants inside it.Even worse, Sharma was shocked to find a condom inside the other Pepsi bottle, which was still sealed.Staunchly denying any negligence on its part, Pepsi maintained in court that the bottles may have contained spurious products illegally marketed under its brand name.To this, the court held that the soft drink major had failed in its ‘‘bounden duty’’ towards its customers by not taking any deterrent action against such unscrupulous persons who pass off spurious products as Pepsi’s. Further, the court rejected as a ‘‘lame excuse’’ Pepsi’s objection that it could not be held liable in the case as it did not have any authorised dealers in the vicinity of Kashmere Gate.Dismissing Pepsi’s argument that Sharma
had not submitted any proof of purchase of the bottles, the court observed that it was not a practice in the open market among shopkeepers to issue receipt or cash memo whenever a person purchased one or two bottles. The forum also directed the company to pay Rs 3,000 as litigation costs.

[FairfieldLife] Dead insects - in Coca Cola bottle

2006-04-28 Thread Jason Spock

TOP STORIESApr 28, 2006Dead insects in bottle, Coca Cola fined Rs 1.2 lakhFriday April 28 2006 20:23 IST PTI NEW DELHI: In yet another “eye-opener” judgement, Coca Cola was on Friday ordered by a city consumer court to pay over Rs one lakh after a man found dead insects in an unopened bottle of “Sprite” advertised as the company’s top product in the soft drink market.“It seems that giant companies have only focussed their eyes on their one-point programme
 - make money. For that end they will even play with the public’s health,” district consumer redressal forum (North) comprising president K K Chopra and members R K Prabhakar and Neeru Mittal said. The complainant had registered the case against Coca Cola Company, Atlanta, USA; Hindustan Coca Cola Manufacturing Co Pvt Ltd; local manufacturer Moon Beverages Ltd and Suri Cold Drink, the retail outlet from which the complainant had purchased the contaminated drink.Directing Coca Cola and its three Ancilliaries to pay the damages “jointly or severally”, the forum directed them to pay Rs one lakh to the consumer legal aid fund here and Rs 20,000 towards the complainant towards mental agony caused to him. This judgement follows an earlier one by the same forum ordering identical compensation against soft drink major Pepsico after a consumer chanced upon a condom in a sealed ‘Pepsi’ bottle. The complainant, Atul Khattar, a resident
of Malka Ganj here, had on August 10, 2003, purchased the bottle from the outlet near Sarai Rohilla locality in the capital.Khattar, who then happened to take a glance at the sealed bottle, was shocked to find dead insects floating in the “chilled” fizz.Subsequently, Khatter filed a complaint with the district forum seeking over Rs five lakh damages for negligence and deficiency in service. In defence, Coca Cola categorically denied any liability towards the complainant claiming that the brand “Sprite” was not their product. The court effectively countered this argument by annexing as proof certified copies of prints taken from an authorised cola website advertising “Sprite” as a “Youth Icon” possessing “a straightforward and honest attitude”.It further warned Coca Cola of legal action regarding perjury for deliberately attempting to mislead the court by submitting “false affidavits” before it. “Cola has avoided and denied in their
affidavits aspects of manufacturing of the soft drink, and the filing of false affidavits before this forum makes it a clear-cut case of perjury,” the court said.It brushed aside Cola’s contention that the bottle may have been manufactured by unscrupulous people bent on spoiling the company’s reputation.“Coca Cola is vicariously responsible for the spurious manufacturing of ‘Sprite’ and cannot absolve itself from the prescribed standards of purity as per relevant law,” the forum observed. It also directed the soft drink major to the complainant pay Rs 3,000 as litigation costs

ChlorophyllWorld famous nutritionists have long confirmed and recommended the nutritional value of Chlorophyll. Today, through hi-tech extraction processes scientists are not only able to extract concentrated Chlorophyll from Alfalfa leaves but also maintain the active enzymes and minerals for our nourishment and better health. The followings are scientific findings by three Nobel Pize recipients on Chlorophyll:In 1912, Dr. Alexis Carrel, stated that "Cells are immortal" His research shows the importance of cleansing off toxin in order to rejuvenate health. In 1915, Dr. Richard Willstatter discovered the chemical structure of Chlorophyll, a network of Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen and Oxygen atoms surrounding a single Magnesium atom. In 1930, Dr. Hans Fischer unraveled the chemical structure of Haemoglobin and was surprised to find out that it was almost the same as the chemical structure of Chlorophyll. K-Link UIE Liquid Chlorophyll is extracted from the plant alfalfa, known for its highly valued nutrients. The Chlorophyll in alfalfa contains antioxidants, which can help reduce free radicals in our body. Free
radicals weaken our body, making us more susceptible to sickness. Free radicals are an active oxidized substance, generated by our own body through metabolism (breakdown of food and oxygen), that will destroy protein, lipid and DNA. It will affect normal cells to change and cause various diseases to the human body. Free radicals are major contributor to aging. Leave me a message Model No.: 500ml Liquid

The K- liquid chlorophyll is derived from Alfaalfa leaves which are known for their high chlorophyll content. This tonic food inhibits bacterial growth, improves digestion, dental health, and prevents external and internal Infections. It accelerates the healing process eliminates body

They also mention that it facilitates milk production, something many women are still desirous of after pregnancy and may require the assistance of either a wetnurse or may
choose to feed their newborn 'formula' instead. My questions to youare at what stage in her growth is the most opportune time for this chlorophyll to have its positive influence to facilitate milk production: before pregnancy, after pregnancy, during pregnancy, pubescence, pre-pubesence? In your work in developing countries, or in any basic necessities programs you know of in developing countries, are chlorophyll-rich foodsemphasized as curative, remedial or milk enhancing for young families? Here are some notes on chlorophyll and its effect onmilk production and other magnificent influences upon
human evolution:Yoga gives great credence to chlorophyll and its influence upon the pineal gland, producer of serotonin and many other subtle mind chemicals that facilitate our evolution as humans. Take the opportunity to spend days, weeks drinking freshly juiced vegetables throughout your day, especially the yellow, green and blue ones, broad leafies such as collard greens, bundles of joy such as broccoli and squash. You can and will experience the difference chlorophyll will make.Vegetarians produce more lymph because they get chlorophyll from grass and other green vegetation, and that is why their brains are more developed than those of non-vegetarians. Those who consume animal protein [neglecting green vegetation] suffer from want of lymph because animal protein contains very little chlorophyll. Tigers and cats are carnivores, which is why they produce less milk. Cows and buffaloes produce much more milk because they take chlorophyll from green grass and green vegetation. Maximum lymph is produced from food which contains a lot of chlorophyll, such as green vegetables and especially the tips of the stems of creepers. Granivorous animals
produce much milk, while carnivorous animals, such as dogs, give very little milk. Lymph is produced from animal protein also, but because animal protein produces a lot of heat in the human body, the lymph is quickly converted into semen. Monkeys and deer produce much lymph, but it is not converted into semen

[FairfieldLife] Re: archeological evidence of civilisations

2006-04-24 Thread Jason Spock

The 8000 year old Settlements found in Middle-east and South-Asia come under the category of Proto-Civilisations. This was the time the transistion from tribal to urban culture was taking place. The Indus-Sarasvati civilisation came to an end because of Ecological destruction and over-grazing as did some of the Central-American civilisations. There is evidence of a 400 year old drought about 4500 years ago which probably played a role in the disappearance of these civilisations in Asia. The first people who migrated to Americas 25,000 years ago are the Aborginees, related to the Australian natives and Africans. They were basicaly Negroid. Another migration from Asia 8000 years ago, The Mongolid migration completely wiped out the Aborginee population, the original human inhabitants from the Americas.
It's not clear if it's disease or genocide or just competition for resources wiped them out. The population of Americas was completely replaced by the Mongoloid stock who are the Red-indians. "Archeological findings place knowledge of Persianprehistory at middle paleolithic times (100,000 years ago)."
Genetic evidence indicates modern Humans came out of Africa 80,000 years ago. Agriculturestarted around 14,000-BCE to 12,000-BCE, which is around the same time sedantary cultures began to take root on form of settlements and villages. But these cannot be called as civilisations. The first true civilisations took root in or around 4000-BCE. anon_couscous_ff [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

[FairfieldLife] Re: Ancient Flying Machines - Vimanas

2006-04-23 Thread Jason Spock

Atlantis many scientists say is probably South-America. There was an island in the middle of a huge lake in the Andes. A huge city existed in this island 3000 years ago. One day the entire island along with the city collapsed into the lake. This information somehow reached Plato who called it Atlantis. He magnified the proportions a million times and turned the island into a continent. The proof of the pudding is in the technical details. No clear information about how to manufacture a flying-machine or Vimana is mentioned in these texts. There is absolutely no archeological evidence of civilisations 15,000 years ago or even 10,000 years ago. The oldest known archeological settlement in Indian sub-continent is theIndus-Sarasvati civilisation dated back to 3000-BCE which is 5000 years ago. The vedas call these four ages: "The Golden Age" [sat yuga - lasting 1.7 million years, where the average length of life is 100,000 years], "The Silver Age" [treta yuga - lasting 1.3 million years, where the average length of life is 10,000 years], "The Bronze Age" [dvapara yuga - lasting 864,000 years, where the average

It flew with the speed of the wind and gave forth a melodious sound (a humming noise?). Ancient Indian texts on vimanas are so numerous it would take several books to relate what they have to say. The ancient Indians themselves wrote entire flight manuals on the control of various types of vimanas, of which there were basically four: the shakuna vimana, the sundara vimana, the rukma vimana and the tripura vimana.* The secret of constructing aeroplanes, which will not break, which cannot be cut, will not catch fire, and cannot be destroyed.* The secret of making planes motionless.* The secret of making planes invisible.* The secret of

For example, there is a passage in the Ramayana which reads: The puspaka car that resembles the Sun and belongs to my brother was brought by the powerful Ravana; that aerial and excellent car going everywhere at will that car resembling a bright cloud in the sky.".. and the King [Rama] got in, and the excellent car at the command of the Raghira, rose up into the higher atmosphere. In the Mahabharata, another aspect of the Itihasas, an ancient vedic text of
enormous length, we learn that an individual named Asura Maya had a vimana measuring twelve cubits in circumference, with four strong wheels. The text is a veritable gold mine of information relating to conflicts between gods who settled their differences apparently using weapons as lethal as the ones [nuclear] that we are capable of deploying.Apart from 'blazing missiles', the text records the use of other deadly weapons. 'Indra's Dart' operated via a circular 'reflector'. When switched on, it produced a 'shaft of light' which, when focused on any target, immediately 'consumed it with its power'.In one particular exchange, the hero, Krishna, is pursuing his enemy, Salva, in the sky, when Salva's vimana, the Saubha, is made invisible in some way. Undeterred, Krishna immediately fires off a special weapon: "I quickly laid on an arrow, which killed by seeking out sound".Many other terrible weapons are described, quite matter of factly, in the

United at your consort's blissful nerve, Our two nectars fused into one elixir. The phenomena of self and others extinguished, Awareness won you the Initiation of Creative _expression_.Guard the natural purity in the world of appearances,Identify your love and attachment with Emptiness, And that is nothing other than Dzogchen [Unity Consciousness] itself.Experience innate joy as no-joy. This is extraordinary, exalted secret instruction; To consciously practise this method brings a fall,But discovered by chance it gives miraculous release. You attained the four empowerments at once,And your success was matured by the four stages of joy.[From Sky Dancer pp. 118-19, Chapter. Seven: Establishing, Spreading and Perpetuating the Teaching.]Commentary: The Use of Sex A most remarkable example of the use of sex for the benefit of
others is provided by Tsogyel when she initiates the rapists who successively abuse her. Much wisdom can be extracted from the song she sings to them. In the first place, she shows what great power the Dakini possesses over them, and in their dependence upon her how their need can be used for their own good. The desire that arises upon apprehending an attractive woman in the visual field can transform a man into a god if his desire is penetrated by insight into emptiness; divine confidence creates a divine environment populated by gods and goddesses. The woman, or rather, the Dakini, transforms the man who lusts after her into her Guru, the man of her dreams. (Verse 1) In this context, as in many other passages in The Life, mahamudra has a technical meaning distinct from its usage in the Kahgyupa School where it denominates the goal of practice synonimous with Buddhahood and virtually equivalent to Dzogchen. Here mahamudra indicates the totality of the unitary field of reality in its female aspect. (Verse 2) It is the Dakini's nature of complete receptivity, empty space, that assuages male aggression; and it is the female organ's 'empty space' that is receptive to the symbol of his aggression. The mandala is completed as the Yidam deity takes up residence in his palace; and joy and pleasure, serenity and peace, are the hallmarks of the Guru's experience of mahamudra after the Mystic
Initiation. (Verse 3) Through 'involuntary exertion' ('no-action') desire reaches its climax, and it is the moment of climax that pure pleasure is understood as Emptiness; insight into Emptiness is achieved in the union of the male and female aspects of the mind and of being itself. The experience of Emptiness is a function of the unitary field of reality, which in this case is a result of sexual consummation. (Verse 4) Even the uninitiated can gain intimation of pure gnostic awareness in the post-coitus hiatus, when our 'mystic partner' and all external phenomena seem to float in space, and sound has a clarity and
timbre unrecognised in ordinary perception. The samaya of the Fourth Initiation is to sustain this experience of 'natural purity' in the world of appearences' and the samaya of zap-lam is to sustain recognition of the Emptiness in the desire that has been transformed into Awareness by the intensity of pure pleasure. Thus whatever arises in the fields of perception is cognised as primal space, and desire

I wrote about this to quite a few people. NoBody except Sir Rick Archer bothered to reply. I think this idea of Superiority has become a Dogma. The sooner the TM movement gets rid of this Chain [Golden Chain] the better off it will be. I think it's Voltaire who said, "Only fools rever the chains that bind them." TurquoiseB [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Date: Fri, 07 Apr 2006 08:16:13 -Subject: [FairfieldLife] Re: The four classes So were you. It was part and parcel of the TM teaching. And furthermore, YOU still believe it, Shemp; it is part and parcel of what you say on this forum. YOU are the onewho keeps saying that TM is all you need. All we're sayingis that you were actually taught to believe that, something you seem to have forgotten. The issue, as I see it, is that the TM approach tospiritual development *IS* seriously limited, and in my opinion deals with primarily "elementary school"aspects
of the enlightenment process. Knowing this, and knowing that he didn't really have anything to offer *other* than elementary school topics, Maharishihas since pretty much Day One endeavored to makepeople comfortable with staying in elementary schoolforever.First, he made it "off the program" to read books from other traditions or see other teachers. This is smart because if you never know that there is more out there than the TM movement offers, you'll never miss it. Second, Maharishi created a *very* strong "TM is thebest and *all* other techniques and traditions are lesser" mindset in his students. You see it here *EVERY DAY*, whether it manifests itself as the pure bigotry of a Bob Brigante or just the ignorance of TMers who are just "believin' what they were told." This mindset contributes to people being complacentabout what they are taught
by the TM movement and accepting of it as "all that *needs* to be taught." They think, "*Because* all other techniques and traditions are lesser than TM, what could they possibly have to teach me?" They have so thoroughly accepted the "TM is best" bullshit that it has become a set of blinders for them, keeping them from even *noticing* that there are huge aspects of the spiritual process that TM doesn't even touch on in its teachings.Third, Maharishi created an Inquisition-like arm of the TM movement, whose job it is to come down on those for which the first two techniques don't work, and who *were* curious enough to study other traditions. When that happens, the first step is usually a proclamation, declaring that "IT'S NOT TM" and will not be countenanced. (Similar to the recent proclamation about diksha.) The next step after that is to excommunicate anyone who still persists in this "off the program" activity. At the end of the
process, you have gotten rid of any-one who had the first-hand experience of having learned things of value that the TM movement doesn't teach (or in many cases, even know about), *and* you have created an example for the remaining students of *what happens to them* if they *dare* to learn anything but the elementary school stuff fed to them by the TMO.It's a pretty fascinating cycle to watch, even after all these years. The only thing I can really feel about it all is compassion for those who have submitted to this stuff, and even more compassion for those who claim it wasn't done to them, and that they became the TM bigots they are all on their own. I mean, compassion IS in order; there are a lot of smart people on the TM internet forums who really could have done something with their spiritual aspirations. But instead they *settled* for repeating elementary school over and over and over, in some cases for thirty years or more. And now they
spend their days lashing out at anyone who suggests *that* they settled for elementary school. It's really a mindstate to be pitied, not reacted to.

Robert Gimbel [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Date: Sun, 2 Apr 2006 11:21:34 -0700 (PDT)Subject: [FairfieldLife] New Book- by Cynthia LennonCynthia Lennon shares John's story from her side FLINT JOURNAL REVIEW FLINT THE FLINT JOURNAL FIRST EDITIONSunday, April 02, 2006 By Rose Mary Reiz[EMAIL PROTECTED] • 810.766.6353 QUICK TAKEJOHN Cynthia lennon Crown, $25.95, 32 Review by Rose Mary Reiz Like the woman who helps put her young husband through college only to be abandoned once he's become a success, Cynthia Lennon was there for husband John when he was a
struggling musician trying to get his 1950s Liverpool band, the Quarrymen, noticed. Then John and three friends formed a little group called the Beatles. For the next 10 years - from "Love Me Do" to LSD, from Ed Sullivan to the Maharishi - Cynthia Lennon was there. And then she was gone, consigned, in her own words, "to a brief walk-on part in John's life." "John," a memoir about her years with the legendary Lennon, is Cynthia's attempt at setting the record straight. "Only I know," she writes in the introduction, "what really happened between us, why we stayed together, why we parted, and the price I paid for having been John's wife." The price was steep. Lennon was creative, complex and sometimes cruel, a brilliant, generous but needy man who preached world peace while often failing at the domestic variety.
Cynthia became besotted with Lennon when both attended the same Liverpool art school in the 1950s. John was witty, aggressive and rebellious; Cynthia was timid and eager to please. He, damaged by the early loss of his parents, alternately adored and abused those he loved. She, like the good co-dependent she was, withstood his tantrums, determined to love him out of his bad behavior. Cynthia's story is not new, but her vantage point is fascinating. In straight-forward, unaffected prose, she shows readers what it was like to be, first, John Lennon's secret girlfriend (Beatles manager Brian Epstein wanted Cynthia hidden, out of fear fans wouldn't like one of the Fab Four being "taken"), and later, his wife and the mother of their son, Julian. Many of her early memories are sweet recountings of John's bewilderment at Beatlemania. In one
scene, she describes the end of the flight as the Beatles arrive for the first time in America. "'We can always turn around and go home again if no one likes us,' John joked, but any ideas about going home again were rapidly forgotten when we looked out the windows of the plane as it taxied to a halt. 'Oh my God, look at that!' John spoke for us all, as our jaws dropped at the side of over ten thousand teenagers singing, 'We love you, Beatles, oh yes, we do.'" The world loved the Beatles, and Cynthia loved John. And still does. She writes with compassion about his troubled upbringing, and his confusion in dealing with a level of fame that made normal life all but impossible. Cynthia still admires John's humor, talent and generosity toward fans, speculating the latter may have contributed to his 1980 assassination by a crazed admirer he had spoken with earlier in the day.
She defends her him against some of his critics, but doesn't shy from describing the humiliating pain of watching him pursue drugs as a strange artist named Yoko Ono pursued him. Most heartbreaking was John's neglect of son Julian, a confused little boy who mostly had to learn about his father's whereabouts from newspaper clippings. At one point, Cynthia describes 6-year-old Julian's confusion while watching a television broadcast of his father and Yoko lying in bed during their famous "bed-in" for peace. "'What's Dad doing in bed on the telly?' he asked. 'Telling everyone it's very important to have peace,' I answered through gritted teeth.'" Cynthia Lennon is to be commended for "John." It is a satisfying read that avoids the pitfalls of most tell-alls and tributes.
Some have criticized the book for being as much about Cynthia as it is about John. True enough - and even more interesting as a result. ***

[FairfieldLife] Re: 5 stars!

2006-04-01 Thread Jason Spock

If the Translations for the remaining chapters exist, Why Can't the TM-org publish it.? Maharishi in the beginning of the Gita translation said that, each sloka in the Gita has to be interperted from the view-point of the 6 systems and 4 states of consciousness, which means there are 24 valid commentaries for each sloka of Gita. Maharishi himself has not written any commentary like that apart from that first sloka. Rick Archer [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Date: Sat, 01 Apr 2006 09:15:24 -0600Subject: Re:
[FairfieldLife] 5 stars! OTB on Amazon (*): Couldn't be improved upon. — In response to Randy LeJeune of Baton Rouge, LA: "But why stop at chapter six when the Gita has eighteen chapters? I don't get it. It's not finished. As good as what he has translated is, it would be great if he had completed the job." — It WAS completed, but was not to be released until such time as was found to be appropriate according to the progress of meditators or world consciousness or both – I don't know which. The eighteen chapters of the Gita may be grouped according to each set of six chapters. Each set describes life in different stages of human development. Chapters one through six talk about progression from Transcendental to Cosmic Consciousness, chapters seven through twelve describe evolution from Cosmic to God Consciousness, and the
final six chapters of thirteen through eighteen delineate human progress from God Consciousness to Unity Consciousness – the supreme human achievement. Beyond Unity, is Brahman Consciousness. But since this necessitates vibrating outside of the human nervous system, there is no human method of describing or validating it. So as Maharishi says: "Don't worry about it." As poor luck would have it, someone stole the remaining 12 chapters from Charlie Lutes in whose possession and safe keeping it was supposed to remain by not returning the manuscript after borrowing it from him. There is no additional copy of the original manuscript and no intention so far as I know of (circa 1994) that Maharishi ever intends to rewrite the missing chapters. Never heard that story. I heard Vernon Katz has the whole thing.

[FairfieldLife] Borg to sell Wimbledon trophies - Agassi, Connors criticize

2006-03-19 Thread Jason Spock

Sport - Tennis Bjorn Borg to sell Wimbledon trophiesP. Subramanyam London: Last week, Bjorn Borg surprised everyone saying that he intended to sell his five Wimbledon trophies which he won between 1976 and 1980 and two
rackets, including the one he used in defeating John McEnroe in the 1980 final, to tide over financial problems. Auctioneers Bonhams said that the items offered are very special and it would be hard to estimate a price but agreed that they could bring in up to £200,000 approximately. The auction would take place June 21. "Obviously it is not easy to part with the trophies that symbolise all the tremendous effort, both physically and emotionally that it took to win Wimbledon on five occasions," Borg said in a statement. "However, I do need to have some long-term financial security for those close to me and now I believe that the time is right for the trophies and racquets to pass to either a tennis collector or a suitable institution where they can be appreciated by a wider number of people," he added.Agassi's
suggestion Andre Agassi, 35, who won the Wimbledon title in 1992, felt sorry for Borg and wanted to buy the trophies. At the same time he said, "The only way you should have one is if you win it and not buy one. The thought of a Wimbledon trophy being in the hands of somebody with a lot of money is upsetting." Agassi added, "There are a lot of people who could step up to help for sure — Wimbledon being one and myself another." Connors's suggestion Former Wimbledon champion Jimmy Connors has suggested that the All-England Club should buy back the trophies from Borg, allowing him the chance to buy them back in the future, when Borg becomes financially sound. Agassi agreed that Wimbledon should help Borg and said, "But, first things first. I'd like to see the sport come
together to figure out a way to make sure the trophies don't get into the wrong hands."

When everyone had left, he said, "Who are you?" She told him her nameand where she was from. He said, "I mean, who ARE you?" and she didn't know how to respond to that. Then he invited her to come to his room. When they were there, they talked a little, and when she got ready togo, she stood up and gave him a friendly hug. Maharishi reacted with surprise, then hurried to the door and lockedit. He turned around and said with agitation, "You must never tellanyone you touched me!" Then he asked her to massage him, which she, being the huggy-touchy-feely type, obliged him by doing. She wasn't interested in him sexually. She saw him as just this cute little man. [FairfieldLife] Re: Sanskrit

2006-03-05 Thread Jason Spock

TheFacts areslightly different. Over 90% of the indian population were illiterate back then. All the VedaShalas, the traditional Vedic Schools were open only to Brahmins and other elite classes. This is because the Brahmin would never sit with a Shudra and teach him the language. Sanskrit was not in the day-to-day use in India by the bulk of the indian population who had other mother-tongues. The British
introduction of English into indian schools served as a Uniting force to all indians who has about 35 spoken languages and could easily communicate with each other with English. Even Mahatma Gandhi used English to communicate with other freedom-fighters all over india. This is exactly why, Sri. Aurobindo stated, "Nature tried everything she could to unite the whold of India, but couldn't, So Nature finally resorted to foreign invasions to unite the whole of India".bbrigante [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Date: Fri, 03 Mar 2006 01:31:09 -Subject:
[FairfieldLife] Sanskrit http://www.centralchronicle.com/20060303/0303302.htm Sanskrit and Macaulayan education"Literally meaning "refined and sanctified", and priding itself as cultured, Sanskrit is acclaimed as the best, sweetest and divine language (bhashasu mukhya madhura divya geervaan bharati). Sanskrit is the divine language revealed through the sages (Sanskritam naam daivi vaak anavyakhyata maharshibhihi). But though excepting Tirukkural which is in Tamil, almost all Hindu scriptures like Vedas, Upanishads, Ramayana and Mahabharata are written in Sanskrit, Sanskrit has been driven out of Indian schools and colleges by Macaulay's
education introduced in India in 1835. Macaulayan education downgraded Indian languages including Sanskrit and replaced them with English. This education was introduced to de-Hinduize Hindus as is evident in Macaulay's following letter dated October 12, 1836 to his evangelist father, "Our English schools are flourishing wonderfully; we find it difficult to provide instruction to all. The effect of this education on Hindus is prodigious. No Hindu who has received an English education ever remains sincerely attached to his religion. It is my firm belief that if our plans of education are followed up, there will not be a single idolater among the respected classes 30 years hence. And this will be effected without our efforts to proselytize; I heartily rejoice in the prospect."De-Hinduized by Macaulayan education, and brain washed by Macaulayanmedia, most of Hindu intellectuals, MBAs, business persons, doctors, lawyers, chartered accountants, engineers,
teachers and the rest are self-alienated and do not know Sanskrit, and do not know much about Hindu religion or heritage, or about Vedas, Upanishads, Ramayana, Mahabharata or Tirukkural. India was expected to discard Macaulayism after the British left in 1947. On September 10, 1949, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar even sponsored an amendment making Sanskrit as the official language of India. But the said amendment was defeated in the Constituent Assembly. However, Sanskrit was included in the Eighth Schedule of Indian Constitution. But shockingly, Macaulay's missionary-oriented colonial education and neglect of Sanskrit is still gripping Independent India. After banishing Sanskrit from Indian schools and colleges, Macaulayists call Sanskrit 'the dead language'.

For example, the magnetic field of a bar magnet results from the motion of negatively charged electrons in the magnet. The origin of the Earth's magnetic field is not completely understood, but is thought to be associated with electrical currents produced by the coupling of convective effects and rotation in the spinning liquid metallic outer core of iron and nickel. This mechanism is termed the dynamo effect. Rocks that are formed from the molten state contain indicators of the magnetic field at the time of their solidification. The study of such "magnetic fossils" indicates that the Earth's magnetic field reverses itself
every million years or so (the north and south magnetic poles switch). This is but one detail of the magnetic field that is not well understood."

The seer was visiting the White House for discussions with senior officials of the Bush Administration's Faith-Based Initiative, when officials asked him if he would like to meet with Bush. Bush embraced Sri Sri Ravi Shankar soon as he entered the Oval Office, and said, 'I am very glad you are here and please keep us in your prayers." Now, I am taking up their cause and trying to rehabilitate them, trying to put them back in Kashmir." Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was also feted on Capitol Hill at a reception hosted by influential Republican Representative David Dreier of California, who chairs

Among lawmakers present were the co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian American Representatives Joseph Crowley (New York Democrat) and Joe Wilson (South Carolina Republican); founder and former co-chair of the India Caucus Frank Pallone (New Jersey Democrat); unsuccessful Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich of Ohio; Earl Blumenauer (Oregon Democrat); James Walsh (New York Republican); and Diane Watson (California Democrat), among others. Dreier, who recently made his first visit to India along with Staff Director of the Rules Committee Billy Pitts, said, "He is obviously a great spiritual leader and we are all so pleased that we can welcome him. We've had some wonderful meetings, it's a great honor and privilege for me to be here and to welcome him to the US Capitol." "This is something we need to pursue so that there is in this world that is shrinking, an understanding of differences that exist," he said. Several influential Jewish Americans, including the hierarchy of the American Jewish Committee, were presented at the reception as were several Indian-American community leaders and senior Indian embassy officials.

[FairfieldLife] Re: TM bonds -- Now Nutcases

2006-01-28 Thread Jason Spock

Home » AmericasSexual harassment affects a third of US college students 1/25/2006 1:17:00 PM New York, Jan 25 (IANS) Nearly two-thirds of college students in American campuses - where Indians account for the largest number of foreign admissions - have experienced sexual harassment, ranging from receiving pornography via
e-mail to groping, says a new study. A whopping 41 percent of those surveyed admitted to sexually harassing other students, and a common reason was that they thought it was 'funny'. The American Association of University Women Tuesday said most college students experienced non-contact forms of harassment -- jokes, gestures or offensive remarks. But a third were physically intimidated -- with abuse ranging from being touched inappropriately to being forced to perform sexual favours. 'Drawing the Line: Sexual Harassment On Campus', a representative survey of 2,036 undergraduates in US colleges and universities, was based on confidential interviews with students, some of whom reported instances of being whistled at or catcalled on campus grounds, while others
spoke of members of the opposite sex flashing at them, people spreading rumours about their sex life and in one case strewing condoms in a dorm room. Men and women are equally prone to harassment. But the impact on women is different. 'Female students are more likely to take measures to avoid their harasser (48 percent versus 26 percent), to stay away from particular buildings or places on campus (27 percent versus 11 percent), to find it hard to study or pay attention in class...,' says Elena Silva, director of research at the institute. Foreign students, who are often not aware of the cultural norms of this country, may have a particularly rough time dealing with harassment on campus. At
present, India accounts for the largest number of foreign undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in American universities - 80,000, according to the New York-based Institute of International Education. Though several colleges hold orientation sessions for foreign students that explain the norms of dating and tell students about help-lines to report sexual harassment, many students find they prefer to ignore the incident or resolve issues themselves instead of taking the problem to campus officials. Surabhi Tomar, a 2005 graduate from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, recalls one particular incident of sexual harassment during her freshman year. 'I was the only woman on the night shift with about eight guys. In a sort of 'guy's party mood,' they started
out by making sexual jokes and then proceeded to ask me inappropriate questions such as 'Have you ever showered naked with a guy?'' she recalls. But once she told them she was uncomfortable with the conversation, they stopped. And she didn't report it. But not all students are able to respond to harassment the way Surabhi did. Some of those surveyed said it made them lose their confidence and ruined their college experience. Sexual harassment is not confined to any single place on campus, Silva said in a press statement. More than a third of students harassed are targeted in the dorms or student housing, while a third face intimidation on campus grounds. And lest you believe lecture halls are a place of sexual sanctuary, a fifth of students reported harassment there. Compared to India especially, American universities have a sizeable population of openly gay and lesbian students. The research found they were more vulnerable to harassment than heterosexual students -- 71 percent to 63 percent -- and were also more likely to be embarrassed, angry, afraid and disappointed in their college experience because of it. One way to mitigate the problem may be to make the reporting experience easier for those harassed. Over half the students surveyed -- 57 percent -- said they would like their college or university to offer a web-based confidential method for reporting sexual harassment.bbrigante [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Date: Fri, 27 Jan 2006 22:32:47 -Subject: [FairfieldLife] Re: TM bonds -- Now

[FairfieldLife] Again India does it

2006-01-13 Thread Jason Spock

South-African Model Gang-Raped in Mumbai, India NDTV Correspondent Mumbai, December
31A 27-year-old South African model, who had come to India’s glamour capital in September to make a career in Bollywood, was allegedly gangraped by two people in a city hotel. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shashikant Shinde today said a case of rape under section 376/34 of IPC has been registered against two people he declined to identify. However, sources in the Vile Parle police station said the South African national identified the accused as Rahul and Aditya. The complainant said the accused laced her drink with some drug when she went to the toilet in Hotel Bawa International, adding when she became groggy they took her in a car to an isolated location and gangraped her on Wednesday. Mr Shinde said police have collected vital information about the two accused from the hotel staff and the owner and they would be arrested soon. Daughter of a South African business tycoon, the woman, who had come to India in September this year, was staying at an apartment in Lokhandwala in Andheri (West). Date rape? The model says two men she befriended at the hotel's pub drugged her. The woman claims she was taken to another hotel where she was assaulted with a belt and raped. The owner of Bawa International Hotel is allegedly involved in the incident, but argues that all such allegations are baseless since the rape did not take place on the premises of the hotel. "The FIR does not mention that anyone
from the hotel management is in any way involved in the gangrape," said Karan Bawar, Owner, Bawa International. The model had reportedly been in search of work ever since she came to India in September 2005. She is reported to have met her alleged rapists at the party. The men, after raping her, dropped her at her Lokhandwala residence, police sources said. Medical tests on the woman have confirmed rape, the sources added. — UNI
