Re: [Hornlist] Best schools in Saint Louis, MO
Hi, Barbara - If it were me, I'd find the school which would offer the easiest degree to complete in the shortest amount of time and offer the largest package of financial aid in return for playing in their musical groups. Then I'd find the best horn teacher in town from whom to take lessons. (probably in the reverse order so I'd be in the best shape for auditions.) Because stopping, done properly, raises the pitch of the F horn a half step. Is it necessary to play the whole concerto on the Bb (A) side? No. Again, someone clue me in on what concerto (I'm after only one) is for stopped horn throughout. Yeah, I know you're a trumpet player. Okay, then, I'll settle for a trumpet concerto written for muted trumpet. Is there any double horn with stopping valve on both sides? Greetings - I have no interest in this other than curiosity. There is an ad on hornplayer.net: Selman - Full Double - 900 US $ http://www.hornplayer.net/advert.asp?id=7720 To assuage that curiosity, I looked up completed listings for selman french horn on e-Bay. There were 12 double horns listed. Two of these double horns had sold, one for $299.95 USD, and the other for $257.95 USD. The rest didn't sell. The starting bid for all the double horns was between $250 and $300. Strangely enough, the Selman horn on hornplayer.net is offered for sale by Katie Selman of Douglas, Georgia, USA, whom I hope doesn't subscribe to this list. These days almost all mouthpiece kits include a CD with photographs of the mouthpieces showing views of each one with outside dimensions together with the same mouthpiece cut in half lengthwise showing inside dimensions as well. Dimensions are in inches and millimeters. Do not be misled by offers for mouthpiece kits offered by major music sellers. These are usually of two classes. One doesn't include the mouthpiece! It includes brushes, swabs and, perhaps, a sterilizing solution. The other kind is for woodwinds and does include the mouthpiece, cork grease, a sterilizing solution and a cleaning brush. While not everybody needs a mouthpiece kit, one can be a valuable asset for those interested in self analysis. -- Carlberg Jones Skype - carlbergbmug Cornista - Orq. To do a thorough seach the hard drive must be indexed, and this should take around an hour for a small drive, say 50GB or so.
