Re: [ilugd] Query reg Knoppix PostgreSQL
Hi Dear Uptill the extent i have worked on knoppix i found it runs very well on machine once chosen as to be right for any time you need it.So don't think for the reliability of that kind of Project. The major thing to think about is whether the project people wherever is this to installed will work continously because once shutdown or restarted the data or any critical information stored on Postgre will be lost; u need to revive again the entire thing.. So anything about knoppix once started it is up running on a machine i think it can run for any time till u don't expire(don't mind).even i have worked with a m/c running knoppix continously for around 2.5 days without any shutdown restart and entire data of mysql PHP was there even after 2.5 hrs. For Installation of knoppix on a m/c (Knoppix 3.2) : knx -hd install similarly Knoppix 3.6 has a command like : knx.. Debian's postgres package does not adhere to the normal directories for postgres. I once made a mistake of trying to package a postgres app with Knoppix but it took me days to do it. Not only that, but the init scripts are also not very... normal. To tune, simply echo a value from 0 to 100 onto /proc/sys/vm/swappiness. The higher a number set here, the more the system will swap. 2.6 kernel maintainer Andrew Morton noted that on his own desktop machines he sets swapiness to 100, further explaining: My point is that decreasing the tendency of the kernel to swap stuff out is wrong. RE: [ilugd] Query regarding FC2 Installation
Hi Kunal, For LBA: Auto option will go. For swap: It is always recomended that swap partition should be double the size of your RAM. It is not mandatory. However presently you can choose 512 MB and latter (when you update your system) you can increase the size of your partition. If this is the case please make a prior planning of your hard disk lay out. Regards, Dev. The solution suggested by someone was to manually select LBA option for the hard disk from the BIOS. I have Intel D865GBF Original motherboard with Seagate 80GB SATA Hard Disk. In the BIOS settings, if I select the HDD to Auto mode, the BIOS takes LBA Support as Enabled. If I select User Mode, then the BIOS gives me the options to set LBA Mode to either Disabled or Auto What should I do now? Re: [ilugd] query regarding SAN switch
A SAN Switch is usually a fibre channel switch, which is used for data communication only. So all devices on this fibre channel switch can see SAN storage. Needs Host Bus Adapters to be installed in servers. Probably you know Ethernet for LAN. You can search google for getting as much details as you want. I cannot reiterate this point strongly enough. We have been given a venue by the Ministry of IT out of the goodness of their hearts, and in my opinion using tools such as tcpdump, nmap, ettercap co comes under the heading of severely abusing our host's services. How would you like it if you invited someone to come and stay at your house and that person started testing the security of your doors, windows and locks and checking whether your burglar alarms were working or not? Since Kishore and I have been personally interacting with Dr Ramakrishnan for organising the venue, we will definitely kick out anyone we see using a sniffing or snooping tool when connected to the MIT network, and also ban that person from posting and receiving mails from the list.
