There is nothing like best, you can try anyone of them. I particularly use
an addon Download Helper. It not only download videos for me but can
change the format of videos also. I can use it to download light form of
video as well as HD form of the same video by just clicking on options.
AFAIK this add-on works not only for youtube but for any downloadable
resource.

Not sure what in the world DamnVid is, and all the follow-ups

Maybe it is just me, but when I used to copy youtube videos

Once we get the device assigned (/dev/ttyS0 in the article) then we

Hi Dear

Uptill the extent i have worked on knoppix i found it runs very well on
machine once chosen as to be right for any time you need it.So don't
think for the reliability of that kind of Project.

The major thing to think about is whether the project people wherever is
this to installed will work continously because once shutdown or
restarted the data or any critical information stored on Postgre will be
lost; u need to revive again the entire thing..

So anything about knoppix once started it is up running on a machine
i think it can run for any time till u don't expire(don't mind).even i
have worked with a m/c running knoppix continously for around 2.5 days
without any shutdown restart and entire data of mysql PHP was there
even after 2.5 hrs.

For Installation of knoppix on a m/c (Knoppix 3.2) : knx -hd install
similarly Knoppix 3.6 has a command like : knx.. (use tab u will
get to know the command)

Debian and Postgres do not exactly fit together. Debian's postgres
package does not adhere to the normal directories for postgres. I once
made a mistake of trying to package a postgres app with Knoppix but it
took me days to do it. Not only that, but the init scripts are also
not very... normal. I would suggest you either compile postgres from
source or make the necessary changes after installing the postgres
deb.

and Vsync after some googling... also post your Xorg.conf here...?

Secondly running X is matter of display card, monitor and vid-memory.

 Hi everyone,

For quite a time I have been trying to implement LTSP in my office.
I used PCQLinux 2004 which comes with LTSP pre-installed on it.

Now I have two queries :

 1. I want to do a fresh installation of Linux. So, for LTSP should I use
Fedora Core 1 or 2 OR a stable version like Red Hat 8/9.

 2. I tried booting 5 different systems in my office using LTSP. 4 of them
succesfully booted, but none of them booted to the GUI screen. All gave an
error that XFree86 is not able to load the driver. I used auto and the
screen type in settings. Out of those 2 have Intel 810 graphics and
remaining 2 have SiS 6326 and Cirrus Logic Displays.

Kindly provide me some help on the above.
 Thanks to all who respond.

The ``swap twice size of RAM'' is a rather old concept, dating from
the days when RAM was 32 or 64MB, processors were 66MHz and disks

A very interesting was on the lkml about swap. Kerneltrap has it here

Another interesting discussion on the lkml is about the swapiness of the

Through the proc interface anyone needing to adapt kernel swap behavior
to their own requirements. To tune, simply echo a value from 0 to 100

system will swap. 2.6 kernel maintainer Andrew Morton noted that on his
own desktop machines he sets swapiness to 100, further explaining:

My point is that decreasing the tendency of the kernel to swap
stuff out is wrong. You really don't want hundreds of megabytes of
BloatyApp's untouched memory floating about in the machine. Get it out
on the disk, use the memory for something useful.

RE: [ilugd] Query regarding FC2 Installation

2004-06-15 Thread Devendra Burman
Hi Kunal,
For LBA:
Auto option will go.
For swap:
It is always recomended that swap partition should be double the size of
your RAM. It is not mandatory. However presently you can choose 512 MB and
latter (when you update your system) you can increase the size of your
partition. If this is the case please make a prior planning of your hard
disk lay out.

Regards,
Dev.

Subject: [ilugd] Query regarding FC2 Installation
Date: Tue, 15 Jun 2004 12:18:10 +0530
HI
In the recent mails in the mailing list, I have learned about the problem
of installing Fedora Core 2 on a dual boot system since it changes the
Partition Format from LBA to CHS.

The solution suggested by someone was to manually select LBA option for the
hard disk from the BIOS.

I have Intel D865GBF Original motherboard with Seagate 80GB SATA Hard Disk.
In the BIOS settings, if I select the HDD to Auto mode,
the BIOS takes LBA Support as Enabled.
If I select User Mode,
then the BIOS gives me the options to set LBA Mode to either Disabled or
Auto

What should I do now?
Should I keep it to Auto and proceed with the Installation or still wait
for Fedora to patch the problem.

Secondly, I wanted to know about swap space allocation.
I have read that the swap space should normally be twice the size of RAM.
I currently have 256 MB RAM, so i have a swap partition of 512MB.
But I am planning to upgrade to 1 GB Ram.
What swap space should I Allocate Now??
Should it be 2 GB or less?
Thanks in advance to everyone who helps me out.
Kunal

Bunkum. As amount if RAM increases, the swap space I require will
_decrease_, not increase. Any questions?

For certain values of thumb rules, the amount of real RAM should be at
least one-third of the total system memory available. This is quite
different from the advice above.

Kumal, if this is a desktop, you may require no swap at all.

The ``swap twice size of RAM'' is a rather old concept, dating from
the days when RAM was 32 or 64MB, processors were 66MHz and disks
transferred at 1MB/s. Make a lot of swap if you plan to have tons of
apps that aren't used very frequently open simultaneously. However,
in general with newer systems I find 256 to 512MB of swap more than
adequate -- the values under are for a KDE desktop with 4 shells,
Xemacs, OOo, Licq, gkrellm, multiple Galeon windows and Gaim
permanently open:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ free
 total used free sharedbuffers cached
Mem:515256 500528 14728 0 28148 180820
- -/+ buffers/cache: 291560 223696
Swap: 265032 103648 161384

Hmm, /why/ do I have Licq open? I can't remember the last time I
received an ICQ message... must do something about it, in the fullness
of time, when the time is ripe, at the appropriate juncture.

Kunal Thanks in advance to everyone who helps me out.

Uh, just thanks? You mean you aren't paying? D*mn!

IMHO you need to download the java linux sdk from the java.sun site .
then install it after taking care of permission . Also if you have the
bandwidth and a fat enough PC take a look at netbeans ide :) . The
compilation is

javac JAVAFILENAME.java

A SAN Switch is usually a fibre channel switch, which
is used for data communication only. So all devices on
this fibre channel switch can see SAN storage. Needs
Host Bus Adapters to be installed in servers. Probably
you know Ethernet for LAN. You can search google for
getting as much details as you want.
