We have been selling wireless for over 20 years and, hopefully, all of them are still working. From the recent past, I don't think we sold any in the 700 MHz range, however, it will be up to the end user to check to see. I received this snippet of info from an email from Rex Lawrence at ECS, one of our vendors in Davenport: Wireless Microphones and wireless products operating in the 698 MHz to 806 MHz Range have been Banned by the FCC Effective June 12th, 2010 frequency range 698 MHz to 806 MHz will be used as a Public Safety Frequency and it will be considered unlawful to use them for anything else. I understand that this is inconvenient for you and your school. I brought this to your attention to keep you informed and to let you know that many of the manufactures that we represent are offering significant discounts to end-users that upgrade to new wireless systems operating outside the banned ranged. My sales staff has a great understanding of the situation, would be happy to inform you on whether your current equipment falls within the approaching banned range, and would be happy to let you know what discounts are being offered. Listed below is the question sent to the Claims Administrator and the reply. Question Many of the items on the Eligible list are software products but they are listed with a General Purpose Voucher rather than Software Voucher. This is creating a lot of confusion and concerns for schools. A sample list is attached. We are asking that software be classified as eligible for the Software Voucher or that we receive an explanation that can be shared with schools. Answer Thank you for your inquiry to the Iowa School Microsoft Settlement. Eligibility is determined by the terms of the Court approved Settlement Agreement. Software must fall into one of the defined categories listed in the Settlement Agreement in order to be reimbursed using the Software Voucher. These categories are: operating system software, word processing software, spreadsheet software, presentation software, desktop relational database software, web-authoring software, productivity suite software, encyclopedia software, and server software. This information is also available on the program website at http://iowaschoolmicrosoftsettlement.com/faq.aspx. Another provision of the Settlement Agreement is that non-custom software that runs on qualifying hardware, but does not fall into any of the categories listed above, may be reimbursed using the General Purpose voucher. The upgrade features a streamlined navigation toolbar that enables them to add more categories like the World Elections and Beijing Olympics spotlights. Also, changes to photo navigation make it easier to access features like the slide-show and make it easier to identify your search terms. The first phase of the upgrade was May 30, 2009. AP Images is fully functional and available for use, but school clients that authenticate with a username and password will see a slightly different screen. The screen will ask for your email address. Please disregard this. Enter the username that you have used in the past in this area. Phase two of the upgrade is tentatively planned for June 2, 2009. This phase applies a service pack to address items identified in the latest round of testing and to update the login screen which will allow you to enter your user name and password. If you are IP authenticated, you will go right into the site. Summary If you normally use a username/password with AP Images, for the next few days you will see enter you email. Lance and others, Having very recently read vendor responses from the 28 page of RFP for the library automation software (my eyes are still blurry), this software looks like it might work for your home collection, but I would NOT recommend it for the library automation software - there are FAR too many things that it cannot do. And, just for Lance, there is that Mac limitation. 8-) More information will be forthcoming about the Joint Library Automation Project. For right now, the latest update is that we have signed a letter of understanding with TLC- The Library Corporation. No financial or legal obligation at this time, but an acknowledgement that TLC is the selected vendor for the project. We need your input Last summer Prairie Lakes hosted a conference called : Integrating Instruction and Technology for 21st Century Learners. The conference targeted Middle School educators. This year, Prairie Lakes AEA and Northwest AEA are partnering together for the 2nd annual conference: Technology Leadership for 21st Century Learning with the conference being primarily directed toward High School educators. Alan November, one of the keynotes at ITEC this year, has tentatively agreed to be the keynote speaker. We are thrilled that Alan will be present as we consider 21st Century Skills for our students. Plans are to have the entire conference at the Buena Vista University campus in Storm Lake on June 15-17; having the conference locations in multiple sites has been eliminated. In order to make the conference the best it can be, we would like your input as we plan conference details. To gather the data we need, a short (I promise) survey using Google Docs has been created.
