need you to provide some quick information that will help us in planning
for better broadband access at your facility.

Only a few minutes of your time are requested to complete this simple
online survey that will enable us to collect the needed information for
your local health department. Please use the following link to answer a
few quick questions about your facility's Internet connection.

Just a heads up. The state grant iPods were 16 gig if the AEA covered the

The program takes up little space on the iPod. The big use of memory is music

[info-tech] Fw: Microsoft Settlement Application Update

2009-04-24 Thread Kathy Petersen
Good afternoon,

This is just a reminder to fill out the online Microsoft Settlement
application. At this point I am recommending that you apply for the 360 day
wavier. A school may, but does not have to belong to a consortium and a plan
for spending the money does not have to be in place until we get a final
settlement. At this point there are still many unknowns on which products will
be approved.

Remember that you must file for the 360 day wavier or file your plan during the
online application window, which is open from April 15th to May 15th at
edinfo.state.ia.us.

If you have questions, please contact John O'Connell, MS Settlement

[info-tech] eWalk Training

2008-11-11 Thread Kathy Petersen
eWalk Installation

for Palms

More than 30 Palms were recently delivered to area administrators. The Palms
were received through the Iowa Department of Education technology purchase.
The intent of the Palm project is to facilitate walk-throughs using the eWalk
software, also provided by the DE.

On December 17, we are inviting the tech support person from each of these
districts to attend a training and implementation workshop to install the eWalk
connection between the Palm T/X and the administrator's computer. This is the
setup that will be needed to perform synchronization. The purpose for bringing
the computer and the Palm with its cables is to insure that all tech support
personnel have the opportunity to work with Paul Shuster, the creator of the
eWalk application. Without this support, the walk-through practices with the
Palm handheld will not be possible to implement with fidelity.

Beginning in early 2009, there will be area training sessions for
administrators. The purpose of these sessions is to practice the walk-through
process and to discuss creation of individual templates. Administrators will
receive additional information on these sessions.

The details for December 17 are:

a.. Location: Storm Lake AEA office
  b.. Time: 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
c.. RSVP/Lunch: Let Kathy Petersen know if you will be attending on this
date. Lunch will be brought in.pizza .$2 a slice..let Kathy Petersen know # of
slices ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
d.. Also, let Kathy know what kind of palm or palm phone and what platform
(PC or MAC).

·IF YOUR PRINCIPAL ALREADY HAS A PALM .(provided by E2T2, your school,
or through a personal purchase)...we had some additional eWalk software
licenses and could use them for these Palms. Contact Karen Appleton ([EMAIL
PROTECTED]) or Dorothy DeGroot ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) to ask about additional
licenses or to get clarification on any other questions you might have.

[info-tech] Fw: [iec-coop] AV Co-op News: The IEC AV/Computer Co-op web catalog is now on-line.

2006-04-04 Thread Kathy Petersen

The IEC AV/Computer Co-op web catalog is now
on-line.

Deadline for ordering is June
30, 2006.

We should have some of the Pdfs created and available
today. The rest of the Pdfs should be available by this Friday.
*Remember that if you use the Pdf version of the
catalog you will need to check the "Catalog Updates" Pdf to see if there
have been any changes made since you viewed or printed the Pdf catalog.

Pictures can not be placed in the database until after
we get the catalog online so we will be doing that soon.

We have made a few improvements to the site this spring
including:
1) All current web browsers should now work with
the site.
2) Added 'Related Items' to products so you can
find accessories faster.
3) Updated product categories
4) Alphabetized the catalog categories
5) During the checkout procedure you can browse
items offered by a specific
vendor. This will be helpful when your order is less
than $25 so that you can add items to get free shipping.

See the site for further information
http://av.co-op.k12.ia.us

As always, please contact us if you need help with
ordering or have questions about products.

I would also ask you to email me if you find any
mistakes in the catalog so that we can correct them right away.

And a final thought it is the customers' job to
follow up on their own Purchase Orders. If you do not receive your order within
a couple of weeks, please call the vendor contact that is listed in the Vendor
file. That vendor contact will be able to help you answer all questions. If you
call a vendor and speak to someone else you will probably get run around and not
get the answers you are looking for. (If the vendor is not able to answer your
questions, we will be happy to help you, just give us a call) Customers also
need to inspect their purchases within 7 days of receipt and report any shipping
damage to the shipper and the vendor.

[info-tech] Fw: [iec-coop] IEC AV/Computer Co-op Catalog

2006-03-23 Thread Kathy Petersen

I know that many of you are waiting for the AV Co-op catalog to come
online.

1. We are
targeting April 3rd as the date it will be available online. This will show all
product info and eventually pictures for many items.

2. We are
planning to post a PDF version of a basic AV Co-op listing tomorrow around noon.
This list will just show make, model, vendor code, and price --- no pictures or
description of products.

In the online and the PDF version of the
catalog we have changed the way we list items and are now attempting to
list the product headings and subheadings alphabetically.

Our hope is that you can find items easier and quicker.

In the online version of the catalog
we are also trying to show a list of accessories within the main frame for many
of our items. It is hard to explain, you will just have to wait for the
experience!

The prices listed are still tentative until being approved by the IEC
Operations committee March 29th. Call before placing orders before then.

As always, make your PO out to the vendor and then FAX the PO to me at
319-752-7525.

The last date to order from the IEC AV/Computer Co-op catalog is
February 24th.

At that time all pricing expires. We anticipate that our Spring 2006
catalog will be online April 3, 2006 and plan to post a Basic
listing of products on the Co-op website by the middle of March. This
list of products and prices is intended to help those customers who
need to make purchasing decisions before April.

If you need pricing before the middle of March, please contact us
with a list of your needs along with the quantity of each item you
wish to purchase and we will get back to you ASAP with pricing.

We have been working on making changes to the AV Co-op website which
should make it easier to navigate and easier to find the products you
want to purchase. We are also working to enable Foxfire and Safari
users to be able to login and use the co-op website. These
improvements are a result of us getting feedback from customers who
participated in our AV Co-op survey.

Contact us if you need assistance.

The FCC has notified US television broadcasters that the standard for
transmitting TV over-the-air shall change from analog to digital. The three
main types of digital TV are Standard Definition (good, offering the same
resolution as the traditional analog system), Enhanced Definition (better),
and High Definition (best).

As of early 2006, it appears that analog over-the-air broadcasts will be shut
down February 17, 2009, causing every analog TV hooked up to an ordinary
antenna to be unable to receive TV stations. The TV could be made functional
again by hooking up a digital tuner box between the existing antenna and the
TV's antenna-input terminals. Or the viewer could buy a new digital TV. Most
viewers will not be affected, as this change will probably not immediately
affect cable television and satellite television customers, since those are not
over-the-air (RF or Radio-Frequency) transmissions. It is estimated that about
60 million TV's in the US are hooked up solely to antennas. Congress is
arranging to offer cash vouchers ( at least this report says so ), for the
purchase of digital tuners, available to people unable to buy new digital TV's.

This is the first time in over 50 years that the entire standard for TV
transmission has changed. The last major TV transmission standard change was
when color was added. That time, the change was backwards-compatible, meaning
that black-and-white TV's still worked. This time the change is not
backwards-compatible.

Why am I sending this to you??? Because eventually it will affect us all and
some of us sooner like today. Last week one of my large screen TV vendors
called to let me know that as of February 28th, 2006, manufacturers of TV's 25
and larger could only produce TV's with a Digital Tuner, or no tuner at all.
The FCC mandate also requires manufacturers to get rid of all their stock of
Analog tuner TVs larger than 25 and the FCC will or may impose a fine for
manufacturers found with those machines in stock after March 1, 2006.

So, manufacturers have sold their current stock of analog TV's to large dealers
who are selling to places like Best Buy, Circuit City, etc... who do not want
to get caught with a large stock of these products either.

The Good news may be that consumers should be able to find a bargain on TV's
incorporating analog tuners that are over 25 in size. And, if you are not
using these TV's to get over-the-air broadcasts then purchasing these analog
tuner units won't bother you a bit. In the future you will be able to purchase
a digital tuner converter box, if you would need it.

The Bad news, for the IEC AV/Computer Co-op, is that our vendors are running
out or have run out of stock for these units. I have been in contact with all
of our vendors and they have very few, if any, of these machines available. I
have a bid out right now for the Spring 2006 IEC AV/Computer co-op. I will
probably have to re-bid the large TV's later in the spring. By doing so these
products may not show up in the AV catalog right away so keep checking the
online catalog or give us a call for an update.

It looks like the new digital tuner models for 25 or larger TV's won't be
available to ship until late March or early April. Basic information on these
may not even be available until the middle of March. Manufacturers of TV's
smaller than 25 can continue to produce and stock these products until spring
of 2007. At that time we may experience this same problem again.

I am including a link that gives you more information on this topic that, I
think, is interesting reading

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_television_in_the_United_States

Call or email me if you have questions or need a large screen TV before Spring
2006.

AV/Computer Co-op Catalog is now online
The
AV/Computer catalog is now online and is also available in Pdf format to browse
or print.

You can order at anytime through February 24th,
2006. That is the final date for accepting orders so please have them to us by
that date.
If you need to order a product in March, just give us a call and we will
get pricing for you.

Ordering procedures remain the same 1. Make the PO out to the
vendor 2.Send/Fax the PO to us.

We have been working to enable Firefox and Safari users to be able to
access and fully use our online catalog. We are close but are not quite there
yet, but hope to have the solution soon. Until then you will need to use
Internet Explorer.

You can also find discounted products from CDWG and HP on our website. POs
to those companies go directly to them. Virco furniture prices are changing but
we will have that list soon. You can also find other discounted purchasing
opportunities by going to the IEC website (www.iec-ia.org).

We have been having several customers call asking about delivery status of
their orders. In most cases, you should call the vendor directly if you have not
received your order within 2 weeks.

As always, if you need assistance with ordering or need advice about a
product just give us a call.

The Iowa Educators Consortium, in conjunction with AEA 267, is looking
to host an Electronic White Board Question Answer Session on March
21, 2006. We are inviting vendors of different brand electronic white
boards in to be a part of this one day presentation.

The meeting will be held at AEA 267's new conference center in
Marshalltown. Details of the meeting will be announced later.

Questions:

1. Are there any major state-wide conflicts that would interfere with
your attendance at this meeting? If there were major conflicts we may
reschedule to a different date.

2. Would anyone from your school building or district attend this
meeting in Marshalltown?

3. Do you have expertise with electronic white boards that we could tap
into?

Our purpose for the day is to promote learning about this technology.
We also need the knowledge to be able to write a bid specs for
Electronic White Boards.

Please respond to the above, if interested, by December 21st.

Thanks for your help.

Here is a link describing the differences between the Secure Digital
(SD) and MultiMedia Card (MMC) flash storage cards.

http://www.geeks.com/pix/techtips-020305.htm

I have had some customers questioning the differences in the two cards.
Thank to Scott Fosseen at AEA8 for sending me the link providing the
answer.

The AV Co-op does not at this time list an SD card in the catalog but
does offer MMC cards. We will be bidding both cards for Spring 2006 in
case there are those of you who want or need its features.

*** Reminder --- The deadline for ordering from the Fall 2005 co-op

Enclosed in this email is the link to the Statewide AEA Customer
Survey. All certified educators within the state are asked to complete
this 4-5 minutes survey about AEA services. You should have received a
letter from Judy Jeffrey, Director of the Iowa Department of Ed.
regarding your participation in this survey. The data from this survey
is very important to us in making decisions about AEA services and it
is also important to state leaders who make decisions about AEA
services across the state. So, your input IS very important.

Please help us, by completing the survey. As mentioned, the survey only
takes a couple of minutes to complete, and your input will help us to
know how the AEA is doing. We really need your input. Thanks, for
taking time to do this and to encourage others in your
building/district to complete the survey too.

[info-tech] Fw: [iec-coop] Recall of Some Nikon Model EN-EL3 rechargeable lithium ion battery packs.

Subject: [iec-coop] Recall of Some Nikon Model EN-EL3 rechargeable
lithium ion battery packs.
Nikon Inc. is asking your cooperation in connection with a
voluntary recall of certain lot numbers of its Nikon Model EN-EL3 rechargeable
lithium ion battery packs. The battery pack can experience a short circuit
causing it to overheat and possibly melt, posing a potential hazard to
consumers. There have only been four confirmed reports of incidents of the
problem worldwide, and while no injuries have taken place, Nikon Inc. has
initiated this recall of the affected lot numbers as a reflection of its
commitment to safety and product quality. We are asking that owners of the
affected battery packs return them to Nikon Inc. for a free replacement. The
Nikon EN-EL3 battery pack is provided as a supplied accessory with the purchase
of Nikon's digital SLR D100, D70, and D50 cameras. It is also sold separately at
retail under Nikon's model number 26265. The EN-EL3 battery pack involved in
this recall was first distributed by Nikon in May 2004 and is still being sold
at retail. EN-EL3 battery packs marked "made in Japan" are not affected by this
recall. If your EN-EL3 battery pack does not have a lot number as indicated,
please note this is not a genuine Nikon product and should not be used. This
voluntary recall is limited only to those units of the Model EN-EL3 bearing the
following lot numbers:First 3 digits:

4BAN4CA- 4CAA, 4CAB, 4CAC, 4CAD, 4CAE, 4CAF, 4CAH, 4CAI, 4CAJTo
determine whether a battery pack is among those being recalled, first confirm
that "EN-EL3" is written on the side of the battery, as shown on the following
photo. Then compare the lot number that appears printed in black ink in the
recessed area on the side of the battery pack, as shown below, with the list of
recalled lot numbers printed above (tilt the battery pack so that light shines
directly on the recessed area to see the lot number). If you have an EN-EL3
battery pack with one of the lot numbers listed above, you should immediately
stop using it and remove the battery pack from the battery compartment. To
receive instructions and materials for the return of your EN-EL3 battery pack,
postage prepaid, and your free replacement,
click here or call toll free
1-800-645-6678. In both cases, we will send you a prepaid shipping label,
packing materials and instructions to safely return your affected EN-EL3 battery
pack. Your EN-EL3 battery pack will be replaced free of charge within
approximately 7-10 days of our receipt with a new EN-EL3a or EN-EL3e battery
pack. The EN-EL3a and the EN-EL3e may be freely substituted for the EN-EL3 in
all cases. If the lot number of your EN-EL3 battery pack is not listed above,
or if your battery pack is an EN-EL3a or an EN-EL3e, your battery pack is not
subject to this recall. No other Models of Nikon battery packs are involved in
the recall. Nikon's digital SLR D100, D70 and D50 cameras are also not subject
to the recall.Nikon is committed to safety and to providing to its customers
only the highest quality products. We regret any inconvenience this matter may
cause you and appreciate your continued support of Nikon.Bud Carruthers, IEC Coordinator

Subject: [iec-coop] 3M Overhead Projector Problems

I have been informed that 3M is having some quality control issues with
their model 1830 units. The units have fresnel lenses that fall out
before you even get them out of the box. It is an upgrade to the
Larson Switch (That is inside humor)

If your customers experience this problem please have them call 3M and
give them the following information.

1. Call 3M 800-328-1371 and then select option #1 for servicing
overhead projectors
2. Be prepared to give them the serial number for each unit with that
problem.
3. Each overhead unit also has a Manufacturers Code that 3M will want
to know.
4. There are two solutions to choose from:
A. 3M will send the customer a new top for their overhead. (The
customer will have to take the old one off and install the new part.)
B. 3M will authorize the customer to return the unit/s and FedEx will
pick them up. (Customers will need to return the overheads in the box
that they originally came in.)
C. If choosing to return the units, 3M will then ship you new units as
replacements. (Hopefully without the the defects)

Customers purchased these units from Brown Saenger. You do not need
to contact them, just follow the instructions above.

If you have questions please contact me.

I am sending this message to my customer listserve, however, all
customers who purchased the 3M 1830 unit may not be on this list.
Please send this message to your customer lists so that we cover all
who may have purchased this product.

Thanks.

If you are using the PDF catalog be sure to check the "Catalog Updates" for any
changes that may have been made to the catalog since you printed it out. The

you access it .FYI1. If you are ordering a Hewlett Packard

getting the best price. If you use the HP/IEC web site to order online, NO
purchase order is sent to me ... the order goes directly to HP. If you are a
first-time HP customer you will need to order on-line and also send them a PO.
After that first order you will not need to send them a PO as they will have all
of your school information. Call me if you have question2. Apple
Computer has given us pricing for some products that are now listed in the
AV/Computer Co-op catalog. If ordering an Apple product you will need to call to
get an "Exception Number" from Apple to place on your purchase order. The order
won't go through without this Exception Number and will delay the order. See the
catalog description for details.3. The Deadline for ordering from the
2005 Fall catalog is December 14th. We will be seeking an extension of all
pricing that would be valid from January 1 through February, but we can't
guarantee what products or prices will be available then. Products and prices
listed for the extension period may be different from the Fall catalog so please
check the updated on-line and PDF catalog listings.4. With the exception
of the HP on-line orders, ALL Purchase Orders are sent or faxed to me. We have a
new fax number that sends everything to my office..319-752-7525.5. My
secretary Mary and I have new phone extension numbers. Mine is 1157 and Mary's
is 1287, or if you call in and don't remember our extension numbers just wait a
few seconds and you will be sent to the receptionist.6. We prefer that
you use the on-line ordering system. If you are not using the on-line system
please indicate the catalog number, the make, model and price for each item you
are ordering.7. Please make all PO's out to the vendor and then send or
fax PO's to me. We forward orders on to vendors ASAP. Customers should call
vendors for any questions about the status of these orders.8. We have
kept the provision for free shipping for Fall. If your Vendor Purchase order is
$25.00 or greater you will receive free shipping. If the PO is less than $25.00
the vendor may add an additional shipping and handling fee. Schools should
expect additional shipping fees of at least $8.00 -$15.00 for the lightest
shipments and more for heavier items. Customers may be able to add to their PO
to get free shipping and get more for their money than if they order less and
pay the shipping fee.9. As always, please call if you have a questions
or need assistance.1o. Because of my busy summer schedule, I have not
sent out the "AV/Computer Co-op Survey" like I said I was going to. I plan to
send the survey to you as soon as we get all the information into this Fall
AV/Computer Co-op catalog. Please take a few minutes to respond to this on-line
survey. We will have a prize drawing from all who respond to the survey. Winners
will be announced after the survey deadline. Thanks and keep up the great
work that you all do!Bud Carruthers, IEC Coordinator x1157Mary

[info-tech] AV/Computer Co-op

2005-07-20 Thread Kathy Petersen

2005 Spring AV/Computer Co-opThe
Spring AV/Computer Co-op catalog has been updated and is now available through
August 24,
2005.Vendors
for the AV/Computer Co-op were offered the opportunity to extend the pricing for
all items listed in the Spring Co-op Catalog. While vendors were able to extend
pricing for most products, not all items have made it back into the catalog.
Customers wanting a paper copy should reprint the catalog and check the
"Updates" listed in the Pdf Catalog section before placing an order. One
change that we have made is that we have been able to get better prices for
Hewlett Packard products such as desktop, laptop, and tablet computers as well
as printers and accessories. The customer also has more products to choose from
because of a new statewide government and education contract called
WISCAII.HP products will continue to be listed as an item in the
AV/Computer Catalog, however, all HP products (with the exception of toner and
paper) will be ordered on line at the new and improved IEC/HP website www.hp.com/buy/ieck12If
you are a new or an existing customer and have ordered directly from HP just go
to the above site and choose what you want to order and then go to check out. At
that time you will need to log in a "New" or "Existing" customer. Fill in the
required information and Existing customers are finished, no PO is necessary.
New, first time customers will need to check but will also need to create and
send a Purchase Order for the items ordered directly to HP. *** No Purchase
Orders should be sent to the AV/Computer Co-op for items ordered from this
site. All items will be shipped and invoiced by HP. You can order
ink, toner, and printing papers from HP but you should check the AV/Computer
Co-op catalog for their low prices on these items. As always, Please
contact us if you have questions, comments, or are looking to purchase a large
quantity of one item.Bud Carruthers, IEC Coordinator x157Mary

Subject: [iec-coop] AV/Computer Co-op "Pending" Glitch
We had a couple of problems today with the IEC AV/Co-op online
order system. We think that we have everything fixed now. You should probably
log out of the order system and log back in to reset your system.1. The
problem resulted when you tried to "Confirm" your order. The next screen that
showed up told you that there was an error and the next page could not be found.
We think that we have that fixed now.2. We found that the flag
screen alerting you that your PO is less than $25.00 was corrupt so we deleted
this function. You will not see this reminder for now. We are evaluating whether
it is needed or not.3.Get those order in! Just because you used the
online system does not mean anything has been ordered. You still need to create
a PO to a vendor and then send or fax that PO to me..Bud

current price list is July 1, 2005.

[info-tech] Fw: [iec-coop] Reminder that the Deadline for ordering from the IEC AV/Computer Catalog is July 1, 2005.

2005-05-31 Thread Kathy Petersen

To: All IEC AV/Computer Co-op CustomersReminder that the Deadline for ordering from the IEC Spring
2005 AV/Computer Catalog is July 1, 2005.In June we will ask
vendors for an Extension to Spring 2005 Co-op catalog products and prices. At
that time the listing of products and prices for the original spring catalog
will expire and the "Extended Catalog of products and prices will go online.
Not everything will be extended so check the online catalog after July 1 to see
what is being offered through August 2005. Customers can get to
our web site 2 ways:1. http://av.co-op.k12.ia.us2.
www.iec-ia.orgWe do not send out a
printed catalog anymore, however, some AEAs do print one for their customers.
Check your AEA co-op contact or use the Pdf versions to view or print the
catalog yourself. The Pdf version of the catalog can be accessed
by:1. Click on the "Go to PDF Catalog link" found on the
main page of the online catalog(http://av.co-op.k12.ia.us).2.
If you are on the IEC site (www.iec-ia.org) select AV Computer, then
the Iowa AV computer co-op link and "Go to PDF Catalog
version."*Looking for a different computer configuration than the one
listed in the catalog? Go to the IEC web site and click on AV Computer.
There you will notice links for Hewlett Packard and Gateway. They both have
links to WSCA pricing, Click the logo for more information.**Virco

Use what you want/delete if you don't want/change to work for you.
Again, in retrospect, I would have probably changed the skill taught
column to skill used, as well as either revised wording on some
statements or a vocab list to assist teachers as they fill this out.
Also attached is the NCREL original document in a different layout.
 Have a great weekend, all!
