[JAWS-Users] The many JAWS issues
This is only speculation on my part of course. However, even though each big upgrade of JAWS is a separate program, they share components. As each program is removed or newly installed, I believe these shared components get corrupted at some point, creating the many issues discussed on the list. I, for one, never know whether or not to leave or remove shared components with each new upgrade. My issue with JAWS 16 is that it never installed with default settings, but rather looks as if it merged with God knows whit version of JAWS on my computer. It seems to me that FS should figure out how to keep each version from affecting another. Just my two cents. -- Sunny Day Maria Campbell luc...@ct.metrocast.net Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known. I do this operation manually every so often, and here are the steps to do this: 1. Open the RUN dialogue box, and type in regedit. 2. The Registry Editor will open to a page that says "Computer", which will either be opened or closed. Use the right arrow key to open it if closed. 3. Arrow down to the folder named HKEY_CURRENT_USERS, and open this, then find and open the Software folder. 4. Down arrow to find different folders that carry the names of the software manufacturers that you have or may have had installed on your computer. If you recognize any names that you know are not on your computer any more, you can open the context menu and delete these keys. For manufacturers, like Microsoft, that you might have had multiple softwares installed from, it is advisable to open these folders and look at the individual folders for each software to determine if you still have it installed or not. If not, then the folder can be deleted. 5. There will be folders that you do not recognize the names of, so if possible, open these to see what is inside each of them, and check any folders that you do recognize the names of, and repeat the steps above for any software keys that you no longer have installed on your computer. 6. Next, close out of this folder, and arrow down to the folder named HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, and repeat the steps above to clearthe unused software keys out of it as well. 7. Note, that if you do not know exactly what something is, or if there are things that cannot be opened, and you do not recognize the names, do not delete these, this can render your computer unusable, so do not take a chance. 8. When finished, navigate back up the tree view, closing everything as you go, until you come back to the Computer folder, then ALT F4 out of the Registry Editor. This should get your computer cleaned up and running a little better, if you have any other questions, do not hesitate to ask. Alternatively, you can tape a piece of paper over the touch pad, so that your hand isn't making contact with the pad itself. This is what a friend of mine did, it it turned out to be successful. If you need more information on how to perform the above tasks, send us your laptop manufacturer, model and if possible, your serial number, and someone, more than likely me, can send you the relevant text from your laptop's manual. And this machine does everything I want to do using Windows Home edition with service pack 3 installed. I do not want to upgrade to Windows 7 or higher due to the extensive use of ribbons rather than pull down menus, as they only confuse me although I do have JAWS 14 set to work with them in Microsoft Office 2007. I also very strongly want to continue using Outlook Express rather than any other Email client, as, to me, it is the most user friendly if you cannot see what you're doing.
