I was going to buy a USB scan tool http://www.obdtester.com/obdtester to get my truck sorted out, but ended up taking it to the garage and they scanned it, reset the distributor, and got it sorted out for less than the scan tool costs. Apparently Infiniti alternator has six diodes and known weakness in the ECU to dirty power. Alternator can still provide sufficient power if a diode or two fails, and keep the battery charged but it is too dirty and the ECU is not happy. An oscilloscope would be useful to see how dirty it is. Dirty power won't cause a specific code, but false codes. Scan tool would be to resolve other issues. [MBZ] Antenna (1992 W140) problem
Right after I got some work done on the front of the car (engine compartment) I drove off and the antenna wouldn’t go up or down. I checked all the fuses and looked inside the antenna and all appears well, Antenna will go up and down when I rotate the gearing so I can’t see any problems there. Any suggestions? I fixed my brother's brand new sandals [with the sole peeling away] with Through The Roof caulk adhesive. It's made by Sashco.com who also makes Lexel I used Lexel 5 years ago to seal the cracked rubber boots on my rear CVJ boots. However I just bought new axles to take of that problem. Anyway I used TTR to seal some roof leaks at the shore house. Then I used gallon cans to cover the 84 year old porous brick chimney that was leaking into the house. It even withstood Hurricane Irene !! This stuff works !! It's only been out for a couple years so not many people are aware of it. It is CLEAR just like Lexel. Lexel is used for airplane windshield adhesive. I use both for fix-it items. [MBZ] Hydropneumatic air cells (accumulators) gone bad?
So I've been riding around on the restored SLS suspension in my W123 1985 300TD. While it's a huge improvement over the ride on the conventional rear shocks that I had removed and discarded, I do notice some jarring when driving over bumps. The air cells are probably original with the car, although they were disconnected from the SLS and not in use between 1995 and 2011. I am wondering whether it would improve the ride if I installed new accumulators. Or to put it another way, what are the symptoms of air cells gone bad? Is this a sudden onset or a gradual process as the leak out? Thanks to all in advance. Re: [MBZ] Hydropneumatic air cells (accumulators) gone bad?
We recently bought a 98 S500 with clear fluid and good suspension. A month later the fluid was black and the rear end was bottoming out. I knew for sure something was wrong when I noticed the headlight beams bouncing like crazy when hitting minor (for Ohio) bumps. I suspect that the failure of one puts enough additional stress on the other to kill it good and quick. New ones from Rusty fixed it right up. That is the second car I've replaced them on. In both cases the darkening of the hydraulic fluid was dramatic. You will also notice the fluid level going down as the gas in the accumulators is displaced with fluid. -Dave Walton On Thu, Sep 22, 2011 at 2:27 PM, andrew strasfogel astrasfo...@gmail.com wrote: So I've been riding around on the restored SLS suspension in my W123 1985 300TD. Andrew, your description is exactly that of collapsed spheres. Get them replaced IMMEDIATELY, because every bump is doing damage to the system. It may be nothing that will show soon, but it will shorten the life. Motorcycle training teaches you to pick an end point, that is, the spot where you want to end up at, and focus on that. It is applied primarily as a means to make turns and not under or over steer, as new riders are oft to do. If you ride, or for that matter, drive, try it some time. [MBZ] print-your-own drones
Exert light pressure on the radio transmitter's stick and the UAV banks around to left or right. Let go and the plane straightens up. Keep your mind focused on the flight path; avoid high trees. Flying with the aid of a sophisticated autopilot has brought astonishing aerial skills within the reach of utterly inexperienced ground operators. So, in the future, we can all become drone pilots. On a blustery, overcast day, Southampton University researchers were spurring their UAVs, or unmanned aerial vehicles, through a succession of test flights above a private airfield on the edge of the Wiltshire downs. Invited to fly a drone, the Guardian reporter managed, under close supervision, to send the catapault-launched Sulsa (Southampton University laser sintered aircraft) swooping around the skies for minutes without crashing. Strict Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations, known as CAP 722, require that UAVs are kept within vision by ground controllers and must stay below controlled UK airspace. Drones are also banned from flying within 150 metres of any congested area of a city, town or settlement. Sulsa is produced by revolutionary 3D printing technology which creates solid objects out of cakes of powdered nylon, solidifying designs with laser beams according to a programmed blueprint. The machines cost £250,000 or more. However, to order the Sulsa drone from a contract printer was only £1,200. The curved texture of the surface feels like artificial wood, each layer a 10th of a millimetre thick. Weighing 3kg and with a top speed of 90mph, it has elliptical wings based on those of a second world war Spitfire. Andy Keane, professor of computational engineering at Southampton, said: If you want to do wildlife filming or covert observation, it may be the answer. We can also fit mini motorbike silencers, though in a battlefield they may not worry so much about sound..snip http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/sep/21/printed-drones-southampton-university ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I have used an oscilloscope a number of times to identify a failed diode in an alternator. If you have one - go for it. If not, it's probably not a good enough reason to get one. -- Philip ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
