[MMouse]: mo mo in providence

2000-09-22 Thread Andrew Hager

it makes me happy that its almost like this list is run by the new
englanderseverytime modest mouse plays here theres always so much hype on ehre and
shit..so many people have posted set lists to the p-town show...hey i really do get a
kick out of it. just wait for them to play in maine (some day) and ill post on here
500 times i swear. so yeah...i
agree with what everyone has said so far about the show..no great but you cant knock
it. i was hoping to hear talking shit about a pretty sunset. i thought 764 hero did a
fine job...polly's such a solid drummer..and james (the bassist..that his name right?)
is fuin to watch. anyway...lupo's is so big..i got a kick out of it...there were so
many kids
there..and still it wasnt sold out. how many kids do you think? many many hundred.
those two wastes running and screaming and climbing on light poles are the shittiest.
fuck um. anyway...lupo's isnt good for meeting people...too dark and and too big. i
was hoping to meet kids fromk the list tho. i had a small boston celtics hoodie
on...some kid was
wearing a celtics t shirt. i kicked his teeth in. oh yeah i almost forgot..the best
part of the show was the free condoms. it made for great fun on the long ride home
making balloons..cola flavored. oh well. im brain dead still recovering from
it.

love and witchtowns like providence and sanfrancisco(whatever the fuck that means-what

[MMouse]: ten pounds of shit in a five pound bag

2000-08-16 Thread Andrew Hager

okay from all the things ive read on here in a while i have a lot o feel i should
comment on..the
first that comes to mind is that it was weird someone mentioned the real world and the
silver jews
in the same post...cause on the real world road rules casting special they played a
pavement song on
it. i swear. and a while ago (one or two seasons ago) they played a mineral song.
wacky eh? okay and
the next thing (and much more importantly) my best friend works at this fun little toy
shop in
portsmouth new hampshire called MACRO POLO and they have great stuff but way over
priced...like
wonder woman action figures and pencils with farah fawcett-charlies angels doll heads
on them. as
well as normal toys and candy. anyway..they have FAT ALBERT coloring books there!!
yeah they are
great..and packed full of great life lessons..but anyway..they sell them for like $5
each..which i
know..i would definitely shell that out for themBUTTT..this crappy surplus store
in sanford
maine has the same ones for 2 FOR A DOLLAR!! i am happy to say that they dont have any
anymore..thats right..i bought all 24 of them. people should contact me for trades and
stuff. im
serious its worth it.
so anyway...talking about old cartoons is boring..what about old sitcoms?? anyone
remember SHE'S THE
SHERIFF with suzanne somers? nobody except myself remembers it. theres wayy too much
tv i have
forgotten..probly forever...i wish i had tv land...is it anygood? does it have much
from the 80's? i
cant wait till nick at night starts showing 80's shit...like i know they will start
playing the
facts of life soon...im so psyched for that.
so yeh i think it would be good to bring back the book recommendationsthe last
good books i read
were life after got by douglas coupland, THE VIRGIN SUICIDES...shit yeah...the
unberable lightness
of being, and now im almost done with the abortion, a historical romance 1966 by
richard brautigan.
so good. oh yeah and im reading a book about massaging. interesting. oh yeah and i
also read one of
noam chomsky's linguistics books. not too facinating or compelling but its still
really interesting
stuff. okay thats all. goodbye

2000-08-03 Thread Andrew Hager

so leigh, at my worst state of hernia-ness my testicles got to a hair over 3 inches
long by
a little under 2 inches wide. it hurt really bad..like all tender and swelly-like.
lots of
throbbing too. but its not like it was enough to get in the way of my everyday
activity. i
went to school during it all. but i did get excused from gym class. the bastards
announced
it to the whole class.
so anyway, i dont know how we know if our balls are ther right size, show them to as
many
people as you can and listen for their reactions. "oh my god those are huge" if not
that or
"wow those sure are small" you pretty much know that they are normal. me and my
friends have
found methods of very quickly unzipping and whipping ours out hiding our penises so as
not
to be too rude in a split second. yep facinating. leigh have you ever judged a ball
contest?
like as far as bigness or just overall quality? i judged one (an a penis contest too)
at the
michigan fest...but they were all crusty punks so it wasnt as cool as it should have
been.
oh well.
oh yeah and fuck dr. laura. at the bookstore i work at we use old unsold dr. laura

fact that theres so much un developed land here. oh well.

2000-07-11 Thread Andrew Hager

yeah im a tard mullet..but i just saw magnolia last night (seriously it didnt come to
any theaters in this area until now..at the cheapo $1.50
theater) and yeah i love it blah blah blah..i remember a while ago a lot of talk about
it on here...like all the odd references to the whole
frogs raining down exodus 8:2 passege in the bible...id like to hear comments and
maybe some things i would have missed (i didnt pay too much
attention to possible clues like the clocks pointing to 8 and 2 and all, i was just
soaking the movie in you know) but anyway yeah it was
great..so much more sinscere than all the other high quality movies of the past year
or two...like, fight club, american beauty...all
those...altho they were all good movies..they still had this sleazy hollywood-ness to
them underneath...that came out in the way that these
movies were, like most hollywood movies..very geared towards white males...has anyone
else noticed this? like..its hard to explain..but these
movies are very good..but still made with the intention of appealing to the male
brain. but anyway, i saw none of this going on in magnolia..it
was just great.

2000-07-11 Thread Andrew Hager

okay see i "get" the interview and i still hate it...i think fevers and mirrors is an
amazing album...its breathtaking..but that damned
interview does not belong...maybe it would have fit in better on letting off the
happiness considering that thats more of a collection of
songs..not a really conceptual peice of work like f&mor even on every day and
every night it would have been better fitting. i still would
not have liked it but it wouldnt have effected the overall quality of the c.d. like it
did on fevers and mirrors.

[MMouse]: sunny day in boston

2000-07-07 Thread Andrew Hager

did anyone go see sunny day last night in boston. what did you think of it? i have to
say it
wasnt worth the $15i mean...keanu reeves' shitty assed band DOGSTARR is playing
that same
venue (AXIS) tomarrow for only $12...but anyway..sunny day are pretty boring now and
im not
much of a fan of the new c.d. and they only played like..3 songs i think from how it
feels...but they did do 2 songs from the pink c.dand all they played from diary was
circles...if i were them...i would randomly play like..the song "seven" totally
without warning
in the middle of a bunch of crappoy songs from the new c.d...and cause a complete riot.
somebody in the crowd between songs yelled out "you guys are fucking geniuses" i hope
he was
kidding cause it was funny. also jeremy looks like he used to...hes all skinny
again...maybe
that means he'll go into another fit and go crazy christian again and that will cause
them to
write good, brooding music again...cause now it seems as tho all he has to be brooding
about is
his receeding hairline (<===cheap shot) oh yeah NO KNIFE opened (someone asked earlier
before
the show who was...so fat lot of good that did) oh yeah and another thing...there were
signs
everywhere saying (please no smoking at performers request) i was so happy about
that...i just
wish the modest mouse show in boston could have been a no smoking affair (yeah right)
cause
that was hell...anyway it made such a big difference having there be no smoke (except
this
middle aged seriously fucking obese guy next to me who smelled like pure ass who
smoked a
couple times. oh well fuck him. thats all.

[MMouse]: good books

2000-06-25 Thread Andrew Hager

okay the last book i read was "DANCING QUEEN" by lisa carver. it was
entertaining..but i think the more recent writings ive read by her are much better
than whats in this book..but still i highly reccomend this. its all essays about her
"white trash" upbringings..but she never writes in a mean way..like shes making fun
of them..she handles it very well. and theres a lot of interesting stuff about being
an awkward teenage girl..and reading too many romance novels as a kid..which i think
was funny cause all my female friends are fucked up from reading too many V.C.
ANDREW'S books as kids.
also good that ive read recently are "miss wyoming" by douglas coupland, "the captain
is out to lunh and the sailors have taken voer the ship" by charles bukowski (soo
good..a great representation of where bukowski was coming from...its all jounal
entries of the last like...two years of his life.) , also the newly released thing by
richard braughtigan of old writings..some of his first. (as an interesting
conversation peice..think of this...charles bukowski vs. richard
braughtiganbraughtigan is more hippy-ish...writing more "happy" poems..and relies
on simplicity..and seems to be all about the little things and the beauty of
them...but the guy killed himself...while bukowski was an obnoxious guy who hated
people and most facetts of existance..but the guy lived to be so old and obviously
was stronger willed and seemed to have a better understanding of a beauty of the BIG
PICTURE...its just hidden in there more. yeah im an idiot thanks.) and also ANGERY
YOUNG MEN-a collection of old beat writing. its a rad really old book...i found it in
my attic. im in love with it

you know..im not a real courtney love fan but i have to admit..she surprises me a
great deal sometimes...i used to be a big hole fan when miss world came out..so when
they played at the university of new hampshire i went...and i was soo
impressed..seriously. i swear there were only about 400-500 kids there..and it was in
a big space...meant for multiple thousands...but still...they put a lot into their
set. i
figured that since A) its in new hampshire, B) there's a lot less than half as many
people as there should be, and C) they are a big band..and most big bands have to give
lack luster performances. also since courtney has an abrasive voice i figured she
would try and preserve it since it was a crappy gig anyway..but she screamed her head
off..for real..they played for about 2 hours and she was very intense, and
was even in good spirits, and talked to people in the audience and everything.
anyway..i thought that most of what she said was pretty on the ball in that
speech..and i dont know if she can pull off whatever it is she plans to do, or if she
even gets around to attempt it..but i have hope in her i guess. unless shes only doing
this cause she knows she can have acting as a fall-back. who knows.

in very particular order:
5. LIVES
4.WAYDOWN
3.tie between the last 3 songs on lonesome crowded west
2.TRAILER TRASH
1.tie between the last 5 songs on long drive

okay thats dumb oh well. anyway i got the night on the sun 12 inch the
other day..its pretty good..kind of weird..like not quite what i
expected...I CAME AS A RAT really doesnt fit on it. the three other
songs are quieter pretty songs (prettier than anything on moon and
antarctica) "you're the good things" is one of the most un typical mouse
songs yet. oh yeah and the lyrics arent very good to any of the songs
other than "i came as a rat" i dont know why but they bugged me i guess.
they are awkward in some way..dont flow very well.

the songs are longer..a little more in depth..but not as good as C.F.D.
i think..they are still pretty damned good. a little dull to see live tho.

[MMouse]: singing cures everything

2000-05-23 Thread Andrew Hager

id like to think that singing/musical expression makes everything better...like if you
are singing you wont stutter...but im sure theres some explanation like with the air
flow..but look at TOM HARRELL..hes a trumpet player...and his
schizophrenic...and when he plays hes totally normal and has no problem with it...and
his schizophrenia supposedly makes him able to play better...or purer they say. oh
well.
on a not very related note...i think davey from promise ring would make a better
lisping side kick than travis.

[MMouse]: boston show

2000-05-22 Thread Andrew Hager

so the boston show was good...like..not that it could have been bad...you know..the
adrenaline rush of seeing the closest thing i have to a favorite band
would make up for any problems with the show...like for example that the middle east
is probly my least favorite venue ive ever been to. i knew this going in.
someone who mentioned sucky clubs with low ceilings so the smoke has no where to
go..the middle east is a great example of this. oh well i wont belly ache
about the club...the mouse did good..played a lot of songs...seemed to be in fairly
good spirits..issac seemed happy...a little out of it at times but at
other times almost giddy. it was cute..i didnt expect it but he had sort of an ANTHONY
MICHEAL hall in the breakfast club quality. i think its just his smile.
watch the movie and you'll agree with me i swear. jeremiah was fun to watch...he made
doin the cockroach one of the best songs they played. im sorry to
russ..i did not say hi to you..but i did see the pacman shirt...it was just too packed
in there to get to you to say hi and i was not in the right mood to
talk to anybody..hahaha it was a little hot in there and i was gonna pass out...i
didnt want to puke on you. hahhaha. oh well. thats all.

[MMouse]: 15 year old

2000-05-19 Thread Andrew Hager

well i agree totally that we can be way too dissmissive of teenage opinions..im
thinking especially by older teenagers/youmng adults...the magical line you cross at
about 18 when anyone younger than you is a complete moron even tho you were a
bigger moron then they were...but in this particular situation isnt (shouldnt?) be
about amy being young..shes just wrong. i will admit..amy's posts always seem to have
more intelligence than you would expect from the average 15 year old but
im totally siding with leigh...bottom line should be: dont put chemicals in your body
when you are or could possibly be pregnant. i, in general am against putting
controlled substances in your body..and i try to stay away from chemicals in
other forms like preservatives in food and such..and if i was pregnant i would make
for absolute sure not to do anything that could possibly harm the baby. kids are
screwed up enough as it is. oh well there was no point to this sorry.

"Amy has a point. Most people wouldn't seriously consider the opinion of a
15 year old, regardless of how lucid their understanding may be. It's
actually kind of scary how dismissive of children this society is. You see
it in public schools, in so called "educational" material, or even in the
way advertisers go after the child market. I'd be more afraid of the
affects of your society on my child than shooting cocaine directly into my
unborn fetus' head. "

fuck nader..i want LEIGH for president.
seriously tho..leigh offers the absolute best insight of anyone on

ps.the word CLITASAURUS is forever etched in my brain

well smartypants... amazing that a 15 year old knows so much about
this and
everything else for that matter... i don't drink in the first place,
so i
know for sure that my kid isn't going to be suffering from any alcohol
related defects, or f.a.s. or anything like that... whatever, my
hair is of
even legnth all the way around... not longer in the back... you
don't show
for a long time into your pregnancy, at least a few months... and
i think
that if i was knocked up, i think i'd suspect something was up (ie
no
bleeding when there should be... sorry boys, serious style).
and if you get
pregnant right around lets say day 14, you should start to figure
something
might be wrong about 2 to 3 weeks after that... fuck, if you are
having
unprotected sex around your most fertile time, you should maybe
suspect that
you might be acquiring a bun in the oven.  right?  have
the planned
parenthood people come and talked to your class yet?  and i
never said that
drinking was going to make someone's prized fetus turn into a grapefruit,
but
it definately doesn't help the kids chances.  and forgive me
for being so
dense, because i know that a half a high school education and a
computer
makes one a fucking genius, but what does this mean:
a baby coming out = NOT YOU!

[MMouse]: about the new mouse

2000-04-18 Thread Andrew Hager

okay someone asked for a sort of general opinion on the new album...i can say that i
enjoy
it..and more so now with many repeated listens...but ive decided that the biggest part
that
bugs me about it is that it seems like an ISSAC BROCK solo album...the drums are
s
low in the mix (for all i know the copy thats going around is just a rough mix and the
final
product will be better) and they seem so much more reserved than before..not at all the
amazing work that jeremiah has been known for...and the bass is barely audible for the
most
part. the vocals and guitars are turned up into the fore-front and s
mutli-tracked.
altho...someone pointed out that there was a lot more atmosphere and weird noises and
stuff
on it..but i really actually liked that...i liked it a lot. i dont like it better or
worse
than the old style mouse..but i still like it. i may be going too far off the subject
here
but i was just reading this book called "beatlesongs" and its a list of all the beatle
songs in order of the release..and it says all the info on the song..like who wrote
it..andwho wrote what of it..and it also has members of the band and george martin (the
producer) talking about the songs as well..but it also has a whole bunch about the
recording
process of the songs..and it talked about all the added stuff and weird noises and
atmosphere..and also the writing process..and i was wondering why more bands cant do
things
more like that..and i was thinking that modest mouse with their new sound with
atmosphere
and added unneccesary noise could benefit from say...a really good producer they can
bond
with and create greatness with like the beatles and george martin. anothing thing
tho..is
that the beatles were so much more of a collabrative band...like all the members doing
a lot
of writing and shit in the studio..while the mouse seems more like issac's thing which
is
unfortunate. he might benefit and really thrive if he were to have an equal partner in
the
band like john and paul. oh well..im overtired and overthinging this. also i dont want
anyone to think im comparing the beatles to modest mouse at all in terms of talent or
greatness. oh well.

[MMouse]: the mouse and drinking

2000-04-11 Thread Andrew Hager

well its probly pretty obvious...but the ideals of the artist (as long as its not
presented in a confrontational, discriminating way) isnt really relevant most of the
time as far as the listenee/reader/whatever is concerned...what i mean is that issac
mentioning drinking in his song doesnt matter to me..and its okay if the songs are
good...compared to say a straight edge hardcore band writing songs about not
drinking..but doing it in
a confrontational and discriminating way is bad..even tho they hold the same beliefs
on that particular subject. bukowski is an amazing writer..and i can enjoy and
appreciate his work...even tho like 90% has to do with drinking..and i havent read all
of his work but i dont recall him ever taking a stance on the subject saying that he
was right and people who dont drink are wrong ( im sure i wouldnt make such a
statement) but this
messege has gone on far too long sorry.

them broke and very frustrated...i its happened before to other bands..but usually
only to bands that suck

that were the case. i really dont think that the quality of music will change..im just

[MMouse]: the BEST bad movie

1999-12-14 Thread Andrew Hager

okay with the talk of bad movies i simply must share this woith you...lasy
christmas a friend of mine gave me a movie he bought at a pawn shop. it was called
'ROCK AND ROLL NIGHTMARE'...its about a heavy metal band that goes into seclusion
at a farm house in canada (the whole thing is like one long plug for canada - "are
you kidding? toronto is the place to be! the music scene, the art scene, where
better is there a place to rock out") anyway..the farm house is obviously inhabited
by satan (the worst satan ive ever seen) and the singer of the bad turns out to not
be a rock singer but actually some kind of angel who went there just as a hoax to
beat satan. oh yeah be beats satan by choking him till satan gives in a fades away.
if you ever find this movie get it i swear its the best movie ever. the best line
is when the guitarist is talking to his wife and he says "baby sometimes my boner
cant resist you". oh yeah another good movie is a porno (and im no usual porn fan
at all..but this is s funny) its called "driller" its a parady of THRILLER by
micheal jackson. find that one too. you wont be dissapointed.

[MMouse]: drugs drugs drugs

1999-12-12 Thread Andrew Hager

i agree that its dumb to use illegal substances (not like prozac or anything like that
but the hard stuff) to control your emotions, because there are plenty of
people out there (but there seem to be less and less as time goes on) who can live
life as they are supposed to-not fucked up and numbed from reality. and the whole
artist using drugs debate is a good one...but i think that all those artist you people
have listed who abused drugs..dont you think they would be just as creative
and talented (if not moreso) if they were clear minded? like they had the talent to do
what they did anyway..all the drugs did was make it last shorter cause they
kill themselves. i wanna know if any of you people on this list are like me and dont
feel the need to do any drugs..including alcohol drugs and cigarettes.dont
get me started on cigarettesthose make even less sense than any of the other drugs

[MMouse]: christianity, indie rock, and the disney channel

1999-11-25 Thread Andrew Hager

hey isnt damien jurado christian? well cause hears the thing..i cant
stand fucking stand him..his music sucks basically just another will
oldham rip off...but you see...last nihgt i was watching something on
the dinsey channel for like 5 minutes (dont ask) and one of the teenage
characters had a fucking damien jurado poster on his wall...i swear to
god...now dont you think thats lame? like maybe the producer put it
there cause he was familiar with damien's music...probly just because
hes christian or something you know? i just found that to be very odd..i
mean its the disney channel for godssake...you wouldnt see a disney
movie with a will oldham poster on the wall..or any other indie rock
musical outfit for that matter. oh well this is going no where..i just
thought it was funny.

[MMouse]: typical indie/emo looks

1999-11-23 Thread Andrew Hager

who ever mentioned the emo-hardcore connection was right on. i find that
95% of the time emo kids are just like..reformed hardcore kids. like
they were hadcore kids..then they transform in time to emo kids..and
thats like..almost indie...but they are tainted by the hardcore
influence they had before so they cant go full fledged indie..so they
just stay emo. but it doesnt really matter..i find both emo and indie
enthusiests to be obnoxious. some of the most snobby and fake people out
there. its much better when people dont label themselves as one thing or
another...and its especially lame when people say that, that they dont
want to label themselves, but they say it in a fake way to almost label
themselves. anyway..i dont know what i am classified as..but i guess it
would be just CHEAP. i wear cheap clothes. that is all

[MMouse]: more name songs

1999-11-22 Thread Andrew Hager

a bunch of name songs just popped in my head...there is a song on the
new saves the day c.d. called "holly hox, forget me nots" and the smiths
had "william it was really nothing" and "sheila takes a bow", lifetime
had "hey catrine", ben folds five had a lot like "emaline" "tom and
mary" and "julianne" and the magnetic fields had "josephine" and
"jeremy" thats all i can think of for now..except the classics like
jenny-867-5309...oh yeah and im glad noone has mentioned the get up kids
"oh amy dont hate me" song. that has to be the most annoying song ever
written.
