restore from Mysql Administrator

2017-05-22 Thread Eduardo Suarez-Santana
I have an SQL file from a Mysql Administrator backup. Database and tables are
encoded in latin1, but the sql file is encoded in utf-8. Fine so far.

However, some varchars have been hexdumped, and strings have been converted to
utf-8 before these hexdumps. When I try to import the sql via command line,
hexdumps are turned to strings again but they are not converted back to latin1,
so restore process fail.

1) Why are some varchars hexdumped?

2) Why are they recoded to utf-8 before hexdump?

3) Is there a way to restore this file via command line on another server?

4) Is there any other tool to restore such file on another server?

Mysql 5.0.67
Mysql Administrator 1.2.12

Thanks in advance,
-Eduardo

€ 26k is considerably more than minimum wage. I live in Spain when not

€ 40k would be about average for a UNIX sysadmin role in Spain.

If you were based in Madrid or in Northern Europe, then I'd consider
roles offering quite a bit higher.

I'm not sure they're looking for anyone to relocate, and Spanish would

If you must use MySQL administrator for some reason, they will undoubtedly
connect to 5.1 and 5.5, but newer functionality will not be available.

Jeff,
For starters, it looks like you need a value for VARCHAR. Try the
same statement but with VARCHAR(255) .

mysql administrator and different cache hit graphs

2009-01-25 Thread MAS!
I wonder why with tre different MySQL administrator istances I have 3
different QueryCache Hitrate on the same database, in the same time :(

I'm trying with:

- MySQL administrator v.1.2.12 (Ubuntu 8.10): the query hitcache is
always at 100% (average 100)

- MySQL administrator v.1.2.5rc (Debian etc): average 86%

- MySQL administrator v.1.2.12 (Max OS X 10.4.11): average 40%

NB: the graph formula is always the same (the default one), then:

(^[Qcache_hits]/(^[Qcache_hits]+^[QCache_inserts]+^
[Qcache_not_cached]))*100

which one is correct?
and why I have so different results?!
thank you in advance
bye

MySQL administrator mainly focus on MySQL server status monitor/use

If you want to edite database, you should use MySQL query browser, it's
included in MySQL GUI tools package.

Actually on my Mac; 10.4.6 ppc the MySQL Administrator will only open
to a connection through localhost. The localhost connection will
accept any authorised user to connect, but, MySQL Administrator will
only assume the privileges of the account I am working from (I have
several). It has been this way for a couple of years and through a
few upgrades; it very well could be that I have something configured

Are you working on a Mac? If so, logging in as root is not good
enough. You must have set up and log into the root user account of
your Mac computer or server. This, if anything is a Apple problem and
advantage. The Administrator is opening to the account you are in,
the login in window will accept any correct password combination
under ShadowHash or other authorising protocol, but you will still be
working in the account you are in with those privileges. HTH

Re: MySQL Administrator problem

2007-01-19 Thread Daniel Culver
Are you working on a Mac? If so, logging in as root is not good
enough. You must have set up and log into the root user account of
your Mac computer or server. This, if anything is a Apple problem and
advantage. The Administrator is opening to the account you are in,
the login in window will accept any correct password combination
under ShadowHash or other authorising protocol, but you will still be
working in the account you are in with those privileges. HTH

The problem is that when you select a user in the user list of the
prog the user's detail don't appear on the right side so that they
can be edited. If I right click on the user in the list then the
only enabled options are Add, Refresh and Show Hosts. If I add a
user, there's nothing else I can do it. The new user shows up in
the list but I can't modify it or delete it. I'm logged in a root.
I don't know what else to do.

I don't have any way of selecting a host. I only have one host on my system and
I don't see anything in the program that explicitly shows me where to select
the host.

Assuming that you installed mysql (and keep in mind, we're talking about
your MYSQL, not apache), then stored connection refers to the saved
settings.
"Server Host" is either the ip or the domain name of your server. If
you're talking to your local MySQL server, then it's "localhost". As
far as the username and password, when you installed the mysql server
itself, it should have asked you to create a password for the "root"
user, just type that in. Username is the username that you set up,
probably root.

Sorry, I should have mentioned I was looking for a MySQL Administrator
running on Windows. Going through PHP seems like a round about way of
accessing the database since I don't have PHP running and the database is
not on the web. It's running on the local machine. I suppose I could
install Apache and PHP and modify the database through a browser, but it
seems a bit awkard.

If it's running on your own box, why not use the 'mysql' client

multiple 'change column' and 'modify column' phrases.

Sure, I've done that in the past for smaller tables. But it is too easy to
make a mistake in defining the column definition(s) and then it's another
30 minute wait for the table to become available again. Someone mentioned
SqlYog and it indeed works just fine. It's free too. :)

Have you tried the MySQL Query Browser free download from mysql.com? I
use it and it lets me change records and does not reload the table
unless I tell it to. I'm not sure if it has any limitations on how many
rows it can fetch at once. I just did a select * from my largest table,
and in 100 seconds it said it returned 890,000 rows, don't know how to
verify it really has that many rows displayed in the query browser, but
I don't know why it wouldn't.

For any major changes to a database such as you describe, if
you have the disk space, I would advise copying the database
and performing your changes on the copy, just in case you do
make an irreversible mistake.

Its not a production database and I have backups. All of the data can be
regenerated if needed.

At least you will still have
the original tables to work with again, and not loose your
database. As a matter of interest, how large is the database
in MB's or GB's?

Pretty small, around 44gb. I had some tables that had 100 million rows in
it now its down to 34 million rows. I had tried for 500 million rows in one
table but had to split it into smaller tables because the index could not
be built (kept running out of memory).

I'm looking for a MySQL administrator for 4.x/5.x that will allow me to
make multiple changes to a table structure without reloading the data after
each change. The problem is I may have to change 5 columns on a 10 million
row table. As it stands now with the administrator I'm using, it will
reload the table after each change (very slow because it means 5 reloads-1

Problem with mysql-administrator-1.1.5, s.o.

2005-11-24 Thread Wolfgang Bogenrieder

Hallo,

ich have a problem with

mysql-administrator-1.1.5 and
mysql-query-browser-1.1.17

running under Windows NT Sp6. Starting the tools I get the error
message, like

"procedure GetFileSizeEx not found in Kernel32.dll". Suppose you have to
define #ifdef NT while compiling, or similar, because procedure
GetFileSizeEx isn't present in Windows NT Sp6 installation,

Thanks

Re: MySQL Administrator crash on Mac OS X

Hello.

At least there is one verified crash of MySQL Administrator on Mac OS,

however, not during the connection process:

You have a good description of your problem, and may want to report it at:

MySQL Administrator crash on Mac OS X

2005-11-16 Thread Yves Goergen
Hi,
I just downloaded MySQL Administrator 1.1.0 for Mac OS X. When I run it,
I can see the connection dialogue, when I click to connect, it crashes.
MySQL Query Browser, also latest version, just installed, too, works
perfectly with the same (and only) connection. Crash report from OS X is
attached.

Re: Terrible MySQL Administrator

2005-10-21 Thread Rich
Hi Scott. Thanks for the reply.

Saying that I deleted the crontab was incorrect. I should have said that I
deleted the line where that crontab schedule was entered. Anyway, it hasn't
shown up as I did a crontab -e, which would have reloaded it, so perhaps it
worked.

Cheers

Just cause you deleted the crontab, does not mean it stops:
crontab -l
That lists the current cron jobs
crontab the_cron_file_name
Will reload the one you have changed.

Of course, you could just send the alerts to nowwhere with something like >

Terrible MySQL Administrator

2005-10-20 Thread Rich
Hi folks.

Since I installed MySQL Administrator on OS X and tried to put a schedule in
for a backup, the thing simply won't go away. It sends an email into my
mail app in the terminal on a daily basis and it's driving me
mad...slowly...bit by bit.

Can someone suggest how I get rid of these emails, as the cron was deleted
weeks ago, and I took out the entry in a crontab I found, but it still
...persists...over...and...over.

I appreciate any advice.

Re: MySQL Administrator Cron Errors

Hello.

There are numerous bugs in MySQL Administrator (but mostly closed)

where the key word is 'profile'. If necessary, you can access the source

repository and build the latest available version, including the bugfix,

yourself. More information about accessing the source trees is available at

  http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/Installing_source_tree.html

MySQL Administrator Cron Errors

2005-10-11 Thread Rich
Hi folks.

Downloaded the new Admin for OS X. I set a weekly cron and for some reason,
it's emailing my terminal Mail app saying it couldn't load a profile.

It's not the address I told it to send it to, and I don't quite get why it
can't load a profile.

Having just tried to back up my tables twice directly from the application,
it crashed twice.

Is this thing buggy?

Cheers

Did you drag it from a network drive, or copy in some other way? If
so, that may be the problem.

I haven't used the MySQL Administrator, but am pretty well versed in
application troubleshooting. Send me an email privately if you need
some direct help.

Problem connecting to MySQL 4.0.23 with MySQL Administrator 1.0.21 (Mac OS X)

2005-06-14 Thread Jan Pieter Kunst
Dear all,

I have a MySQL 4.0.23 server running on an OpenBSD machine. When I try
to connect to it with MySQL Administrator 1.0.21 from my Mac OS X
machine, I get this error:

Connection error
Could not connect to MySQL instance at .
Error: unknown system variable 'sql_mode' (code 1193)

I can connect with MySQL administrator 1.0.9 beta. I'm guessing the
administrator 1.0.21 is explicitly asking for a 4.1 specific server
variable and the 4.0 server doesn't understand it.

Is there any way around this, or is there a fix planned?

Thanks in advance
Jan Pieter Kunst

Re: MySQL Administrator Broke MySQL

2005-05-17 Thread Jeff Gojkovich
Nevermind. I figured it out. It somehow corrupted the db table in the
mysql db. I blew that away and recreated it with just root access to all of
the dbs and it works now.

First I would like to start off by saying I am a complete noobie to MySQL.
I have MySQL 4.0 running on a freebsd machine. All was fine and dandy
till I tried to connect to it using the W32 MySQL Administrator tool. Now
if I try and execute a script against it I get "DBI connect failed :
Access denied for user: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'". I can get my scripts to work
if I start mysql with ./safe_mysqld --skip-grant-tables &. That will let
the scripts run until I try and change any users privs or passwords. I
have noticed that when I run mysql with the --skip-grant-tables flag I get
all of my dbs showing in mysqlshow, and as soon as I try and change a user
it changes to just showing just a test db when I execute mysql show.

Please give me some pointers on where to go to fix this. I have googled
and searched the archives and I haven't come up with anything that works.

Slightly Off Topic - MySQL Administrator

2005-04-08 Thread Terry Riley
As a newbie on Linux (FC3), I have (evidently) done something stupid and
lost part of the Administrator application.

When first installed, it was fine. I then treid to change the path on the
restore page, assuming that it was to point to where backups would be
stored. Whatever was entered there (I don't honestly remember what it was)
has resulted in the following: whenever the application is up and running,
if I click on 'Restore' to go to that page, the whole app just disappears.

I've used what I believe to be the normal method of uninstalling ('rpm
-e') and the 'rpm -V' thereafter reports the pacjkage as not installed. If
I then reinstall, I still get the same problem of a disappearing
MySQLAdministrator when I click for Restore.

Eveidently there's a config file somewhere with that (obviously incorrect)
path in it, but it's not being destroyed by the 'rpm -e'.

Does anyone out there happen to know what that is? I've looked at the
archives for the MySQL-GUI and find no reference to this...

Cheers
Terry Riley

Re: Error 1043 Bad handshake [In MySQL Administrator]

2004-11-17 Thread Chris Bailey
I have just installed MySQL Administrator on FreeBSD 5.2.1. I am trying to use the "Connect to MySQL Server Instance"
dialog to establish a connection to a version: 4.0.22 MySQL server. I can establish a remote connection using:

mysql -h hostname -p -u username databasename
However, using MySQL Administrator, I get the following error:
Could not connect to host 'hostname'.
MySQL Error Nr. 1043
Bad handshake
I have UPDATED the database password as suggested using the OLD_PASSWORD()
function. Still not able to establish a connection.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your time,
cb
An answer to my own question. I have solved this problem which seems to be
due to the way
mysql 4.1.7 stores it's passwords. I used the mysql function OLD_PASSWORD to
make mysql
store it's passwords in the pre 4.1.x method. Basically the syntax is:
mysql> UPDATE mysql.user SET Password = OLD_PASSWORD('newpwd') WHERE Host =
'some_host'
AND User = 'some_user';
mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
Now I seem to be able to connect.

I don't think that I need to do any sort of permission fixing (Isn't that just for
migrated data?) I can connect to it via local host just fine but if I try to connect from
another machine running 4.1.? I get:

MySql Administrator

2004-11-14 Thread karigna
I just did a clean install of Fedora Core 3 and installed mysql
administrator but when I go to execute the app nothing happens. No error
message etc. Is there a problem with this combination? The version of mysql
admin is the latest from the website and is not the stripped down version.

Thanks.

Assertion failure (MySQL Administrator)

2004-09-03 Thread Terry Riley
Hopefully, this is ONLY about the administrator, not MySQL in general.

Our log file (the one with all the connects and queries) has reached about
1.3Gb in size (33272 pages). Whilst trying to view the last-but-one - or
indeed any except the last page of the log in Administrator - a sudden
'Assertion failure' notice appeared.

Failure in ~ols\MySQL Administrator\MySQLAdministrator.exe
File: .\source\myx_log_files.c
Line 161
Expression: block_num !=0

This is Administrator v 1.0.8 running on WinNT, with Apache 2 and MySQL
4.1.3b-beta-nt-log.

Yes, I know I should update both the Server and the Administrator, but am
unable to until we have some downtime.

Can I assume that, as the server is still running (apparently without
problems) that the reported fault is only to do with Admin trying to read
the log files, and nothing more serious?

TIA
Terry Riley

You should warn people that it doen't support 3.x series I believe. Since
that is all that is in the Debian std. release this is an issue.

Running mysql-administrator and mysqlcc graphical clients

2004-07-13 Thread A. Lanza
Hi list,

i've installed mysql-administrator and mysqlcc graphical clients
downloaded from mysql.com. As i read in doc from the site, i unzipped
the downloaded files in /usr/local.

It seems to be ok, but i cannot execute the apps.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] bin]$ ls
mysql-administrator mysql-administrator-bin
[EMAIL PROTECTED] bin]$ mysql-administrator
bash: mysql-administrator: command not found
[EMAIL PROTECTED] bin]$

The system shows mysql-administrator file in green and it looks like the
bash shell cannot execute it. I have the same problems when trying to
run mysqlcc.

Any help?

Thanks

MySQL Administrator question

2004-06-24 Thread Emmett Bishop
Howdy all. If this isn't the right listserv for this
question, my appologies.

What I'd like to do is set up a graph under the
"Health" section of the mysql administrator so that I
can easliy keep tabs on the INNODB Buffer pool.

The problem is that I don't know which variables to
use to calculate the buffer usage or the hit rate,
which would also be nice to have. The mysql site
doesn't seem to have a place where the innodb status
variables are explained and the administrator doesn't
explain them either (most of the other variables are
explained, but no the innodb ones). We're running
mysql 4.0.16 and mysql administrator 1.0.5 Beta.

Cheers,

Tripp

Mysql-administrator-1.0.4 beta on SuSE 9.1, can not compile

2004-06-23 Thread andre.theiner

Hello,
Who can help?

About 2 weeks ago I downloaded the source of mysql-administrator-1.0.4_beta
and since then I am fighting with it.
I can not compile it on SuSE linux 9.1 (32 bit).
The reported problem from ./configure is that it can not find the package
"gdk-2.0.pc".
This complaint is not shown in config.log, it appeared on the console.

Also the output is complaining about libxml2 being <2.6.2.
This is not true, libxml2 is version 2.6.7, checked with rpm -qi libxml2.

Here is config.log:
=== start ==

This file contains any messages produced by compilers while
running configure, to aid debugging if configure makes a mistake.

It was created by configure, which was
generated by GNU Autoconf 2.59. Invocation command line was

the following error at startu:

I did a find from root and did not locate any file
closely resembling the name 'libsigc*'. Does this mean
I should download and build the source?

TIA.

MySQL Administrator Installation problem on Solaris

2004-04-06 Thread Claudio Nanni
Hi,
I am trying to install MySQL Administrator 1.0.2.b-alpha on Solaris 7
operating system,
(since it seems I can manage almost nothing from a remote PC thru MySQL
Administrator)

When I try to do what suggested (linux section) in the MySQL
Administrator FAQ on MySQL website that is

===

*Q:* How can I build MySQL Administrator myself?

*A:* The following BitKeeper modules can be downloaded from
http://mysql.bkbits.net/, using the BitKeeper <http://www.bitmover.com/>
version management system:

   * mysql-gui-common
   * mysql-adminstrator
Alternatively, download the source code package from our download page
<http://www.mysql.com/downloads/administrator.html>.

For each directory, execute the following commands:

 sh autogen.sh
 ./configure
 make
 make install
If everything went well, you should have the |mysql-administrator|
binary built and installed in |/usr/local/bin|.

==

When I try to issue the command: sh autogen.sh

I get:
---
centauri# sh autogen.sh
**Warning**: I am going to run `configure' with no arguments.
If you wish to pass any to it, please specify them on the
`autogen.sh' command line.
find: bad option -path
find: path-list predicate-list
Running ./configure --enable-maintainer-mode ...

Whats the problem? (Solaris?)

thanks in advance,

RE: MySQL Administrator certain options only valid at localhost

2004-02-13 Thread Alfredo Kengi Kojima

Hi

As Greg mentioned, the options that are disabled for remote servers need
access to the underlying system where the server run (file system, process
control etc). There are plans for supporting those in remote servers, but
that is still under development.

MySQL Administrator certain options only valid at localhost

2004-02-13 Thread Iago Sineiro

Hi.

I've downloaded MySql Administrator 1.0.1a alpha for Windows and tried it.

It has options only enabled if MySQL Admnistrator is connected to localhost.
I'm connected as root to other host (which is Linux). For example the
Startup Variables. Some of these options are the most interesting options
and I want to use MySQL Administrator for connect to remote hosts. These
remote hosts are Linux that could be in the same LAN but that doesn't have X
server installed.
