Wanted to tell you what happened yesterday. I installed lm-sensors and gkrellm

Got it setup and running, got alarms right away. The 3.3v is showing 6.4 volts
all the time. I'm clueless as to why.

As to temperature - I took the case off, had gkrellm going, showing 114.4
degrees (F. not Celsius). I opened a shell and ran burnK6, and watched it.

System locked up in less than 2 minutes, final temperature was 118.2 degrees
at lockup. That should not really be the problem, should it?

Thanks much!

Hi Leonardo - I had problems getting an Adaptec SCSI card to work with a
Shuttle motherboard here, and although I finally gave up and moved the SCSI
setup to another motherboard, I was told that during installation, you must
pick expert and try to get the install to pick another SCSI driver.
Apparently, mine was always picking the wrong one during installation and the
install would always fail.

Do a search on the mailing list archives for SCSI and you should find the
threads about it.

Hope this helps. :-)

It was just when I went to duplicate a CD that it fell down. I've got an
Adaptec SCSI card, running a Toshiba DVD and a Plextor CDRW. Xcdroast finds
both, has them in correct positions on the SCSI chain, but will not read any
CD in my DVD drive. It always reports that its an empty CDRW. Gcombust, under
this same setup works fine. I even deleted Xcdroasts conf files and started

[newbie] Bad floppy filecopy under KDE?

2002-05-28 Thread darklord

Just wondering - seems like I read this somewhere before...is there a bug in
the drag 'n drop filecopy to an open floppy window under KDE with v8.2? The
reason I'm asking is - I did it, from an window on /home/darklord to an open
window on /mnt/floppy and I got a complete and total system wide lockup. None
of the usual control alt's would work, had to power down and backup. Of
course, then I went thru the time-honored I'm fsck'ed shuck 'n jive... I
opened a term and did a cp filename.ext /mnt/floppy and it worked just fine.

Thanks in advance! ;-)

I was afraid of something along those lines. I would just love to see

commercial along the lines of:

Well folks, today we are releasing all of our code and making it open

now because we feared what MS would do to our business. Here are memo's
and other (various) messages from Redmond showing just how they have been
threatening us. We finally just became sick to death of all this and decided
to tell you, the buying American public, just what they have been doing.
Naturally now, we will be a target for them to use, abuse and withhold vital
information from, just so they can teach us a lesson. In fact, they will
probably destroy us. Is this right? You decide - and let your elected
officials know just what you think... Thank you for your time

Ummm, actually you don't have to hunt that far for a maillist for this

 Fire up Google and find

 Geeks with Guns

The leader is Eric S. Raymond, last I looked.

 Civileme

Haha - thats funny! I had the privelage of meeting Mr. Raymond on the Linux
Lunacy tour... In fact, we went para-sailing (about 400-500 feet up) together
with his wife. My wife, who has no head for heights, stayed on the beach -
checking my life insurance policy... grin

A interisting point to ponder is that from what I have heard the crime

 state.
Has getting rid of most of the firearms in a lot of the UK had that kind
 of positive effect?

You're on the right track here - taking guns away does NOT lower crime rates.
Just the opposite, in fact. Britain and Australia (FWIH) are in the same
boat... ;-(

I know, I know this is way OT, and I apologise...

Nah, don't feel bad - look up stupid/imbecile/idiot in just about any ole
dictionary...you'll find a photo that bears a remarkable resemblance to yours
truly! ;-)

You know what I do whenever I get a new Mandrake distro? (well there are a
lot of things BUT) I open the software (RPM) manager, go to flat list, and
under the not installed part, I take the time to scroll down thru the list
and see just what was -not- installed. Its pretty informative... even if it
does take awhile. ;-)

[newbie] E-term problems under 8.2?

2002-05-05 Thread darklord

Has anyone else had problems with E-term under 8.2?

I'm getting this (non-fatal) error when I start E-term:

bash: TMOUT: readonly variable
[darklord@darkforce darklord]$

I looked at .bash_profile, .bashrc, and .bash_history in my /home director
but saw nothing that pointed to this...

Thanks! ;-)
