Hi Konstantin and/or Ursula,

please do not write your local announcements
to this PHPDOC list. It isn´t very interesting for agricultural students at

  Hallo liebe
  Studierende und Fachschaftsaktive,

  alle Halbjahre
  wieder ..

  Herzlichen Dank
  schon mal vorab und
  viele Grüße aus
  dem

Please stop the removal of German files. All German files are in
German language. I have removed the not translated files since we
have a automatical fallback to the English version if there is no
German translation.

I have put also many hours and years into the English and German PHP

Please don´t document new function names in the documentation. This
will be done by scripts from Hartmut Holzgraefe.

Please only document added or deleted functions "argument"s, because

I hope you can understand me now, that the revcheck doesn´t help if
you are some revisions behind the en tree. It is nearly impossible
to follow the CVS commits.

It is also a nightmare to move functions in other languages into
other files if the language is not uptodate with the en tree.

I hope I can speak with Mark K. tomorrow or next Saturday and will
clear the problem.

With that modification it would no longer be the original Open

No, I think every copyright holder reads the PHP-DOC mailing list.
As you can see, the Zend API license on zend.com use the options A
and B. Rasmus said, that this option shouldn´t be used. The special
license in the manual looks not valid, because it is only a link to
http://www.opencontent.org/openpub/ and therefor doesn´t say
something about the options to use or not to use.

No, if XSLT works better as DSSSL, why not use it. HTML would be a
step in the wrong direction. XML is the future and I don´t rely on
MS. Sure you can only display HTML in most browsers, but this can
change in future.

You haven´t understood all terms. The members of this group are
members of the PHP Documentation Group and not only the doc team.
All members (except the editors of other languages) are working
since 1997 for the PHP manual.

The list of translator names follows an alphabetical order. So
place it between J and L. The entry in de/Translators was placed at
the correct position. Translators with the oldest CVS account are
listed first and the new translators are listed at the end.

Oh, haven´t known that. Can it do the following in English:

See also: func1 and func2.
See also: func1, func2, and func3.

and for German or Hungarian:

Siehe auch: func1 und func2.
Siehe auch: func1, func2 und func3.

I don´t have something against a rendering a "see also" block. But
rendering the content with a list would be a nightmare. We had a
discussion at which place should be comma in this list. This depends
on the language and I can guess it will be look very funny in

Jirka, please don´t make changes for the rendering of the "see also"
notes until there is a solution for the incomplete PDF manuals. IMHO
it is an overkill. It is much better to write the "see also" notes
as before. Indeed it will be too complex if you consider the other

I have now made a test myself with my old system. If you have a
correct DocBook installation, you should see no errors.

I have done it with:

cd phpdoc
cvs -z3 update -dP
autoconf
./configure
make

I gets only one warning: recreating the function index needs php
which was not found by configure - reusing old file.

Indeed I have no php executable on that system. It could be, that
"make clean" removes a needed old file. I don´t know which file is
missing because I never use "make clean" :)

Please don´t touch them. They are needed for editors (programs and

The URLs for http://www.zend.com ... and http://pear.php.net ...
should be in global.ent. If you want to change the English manual,
don´t forget to add the missing comma in front of the "and" in the
enumeration of RFCs.

The names of editors and authors are on the title page. Translations
can have other editor names on the title page. I´m also an editor
for the German PHP manual and the German word for editor is
"Herausgeber".

[PHP-DOC] Building errors

2002-01-11 Thread Egon Schmid

Hello all,

can someone explain the error messages at
http://php.net/manual/it/build.log ? The error messages aren´t in a
local build with the current Italian manual.

I can´t believe it. You know, most of the translated files are not
in sync with the English files.

If the build doesn´t stop with "sed: can't read confdefs.h: No such
file or directory" grep through php.net/manual/en/build.log and look
for a "Sorry, TeX capacity exceeded".

If you compare the translated PDF manuals you will see that:

en:Chapter 46Database issues
de:Kapitel 46Database issues

stops at the same page content on different pages (1896 vs. 1611).

Ok, but there is another error in the build system or the manual
itself. Look at the PDF manuals and you will see a incomplete table
of content (?? as page numbers at the end) and this pages aren´t
shown.
