2017-07-09 Thread Michael Herger
I'm happy to say the playback issue seems to have been fixed in the
underlying librespot code - thanks a lot plietar for the great response
time!

v1.1.0 - new and changed:
- fixed playback issue caused by some backend change on Spotify's end
- add new (experimental) feature: "Transfer Playback"

The new "Transfer Playback" feature allows you to transfer the playlist
currently playing on your phone's Spotify app to your Squeezebox.
Imagine arrive back home after listening to some music during your
commute or while out running. You can now seamlessly* transfer the
playlist to your Squeezebox.

* Ahm... almost. Spotify's web API for this functionality is still beta
- and lacking. While the transfer of a playlist should work quite ok, if
you had been listening to a mix or an album, the context might be
missing, therefore not be replicated correctly. Eg. transferring a mix
(which is not available through their API) would only give me the
currently playing mix, but no other mix or playlist ID or something.
Therefore that single track would be played in the context of its album
instead.

Have fun!

I don't think the NFS or CIFS mount is anyway an issue. The HP also has
an NFS mount.

I have just tried an iPeng via VPN connection via 4G to the HP and it's
perfect as it always was. What I didn't say because it would have
confused the issue is that the iOS vpn connection is actually to my
colleagues Draytek elsewhere and then there is a site to site IPSec from
his network to mine. It's irrelevant as the routing is working exactly
the way it should. It's like this purely because he has a Draytek
capable of SSL and mine is a bit too old for that and as you will know
Apple have killed pptp. I should add that the Pi andHP both have
staticIPs and both share the same gateway etc.

The problem is that I don't know how to find it on my NAS.

When I am doing the iPeng VPN thing none of these players are playing. I
have only tried local files but with them rebuffering every few seconds
I figured no point in trying Spotify.

Obvious differences between the Pi and the old HP is 4Gb RAM in the
latter and a 1Gb NIC. Both the Pi and HP are attached to the same
switch. The Router is a Draytek Vigor and the VPN is SSL.

I have seen this as well as the "connecting" issue. In fact these issues
and a possibly unrelated one have forced me to disable my Pi based
server with Spotty and revert to my old HP server running Vortexbox with
7.9.1 and SPH

As well as Spotify and DSTM issues the Pi just doesn't seem to have
enough guts to let me use iPeng as a player with VPN when travelling. I
think I may be asking it to do too much. I need to do more testing.

I have no remote playing issues when using the old HP but Spotty won't
run on its CPU as Michael knows.

The VPN is router based not on the Pi itself so I don't believe it's a
networking problem. IPeng will connect but will only play a few seconds
before rebuffering occurs. 4G bitrate limiting is applied but I have
tried via both 4G and wifi with similar results,

cause for this concern when using Spotty and the libio-socket-ssl-perl

Check Settings/Information in LMS. See where the cache folder is stored.
Then check the available disk space found on that partition. You might
need to log in using ssh to do this. But you'll know how to do this by

I might have come across (the same?) similar issue. It's with this
playlist:
https://play.spotify.com/user/spotify/playlist/37i9dQZF1DX6odi0pSOEMQ?play=true&utm_source=open.spotify.com&utm_medium=open

the first song plays fine, but second, third and fourth "play" with no
sound. I can skip back and forth, and it's this behaviour is
consistently reproducible.
All the songs played just fine yesterday.
The whole playlist plays ok when using the spotify desktop app (i'm on
linux).

i'm also using a touch, with the server version:
Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.1 - 1499358182 @ Sat Jul 8 04:20:26
UTC 2017

Just restarted the squeezebox server, and that did not change the
situation; songs 2-4 still only "play" without sound.

Thanks for the quick response. I asked over there and got this advice:

-You will need to enable SSH access and then use an SSH client such as
Putty to connect to the NAS. Log in as user root using the admin
password. Once there, do an apt-get update and then the apt-get command

Note that this will likely install the app in the root partition, which
is of limited size on the ReadyNAS. If this app creates large databases
and/or logs, that could cause issues with the OS partition filling up-

I think I can follow the instructions but I'm clueless as to the warning
about the "OS partition filling up". That doesn't sound good. Is there
cause for this concern when using Spotty and the libio-socket-ssl-perl

Might actually be the same issue learningcurve was reporting: the spotty
helper application crashes on some tracks (it successfully played a few
days ago). I am able to reproduce the issue with librespot, therefore
reported the issue upstream. I hope it's a temporary issue with
Spotify's backend servers, triggering some unexpected behavior in
librespot.

I found a problem in Beethoven Symphony No. 6 and am unsure whether it
is the Spotify tracks themselves that are broken or whether there is
some special handling of "attacca" in Spotify that Spotty is failing to
handle.

I doubt it's limited to Beethoven: I'm currently seeing a lot of
playback failures playing any kind of album or playlist.

I hope this is a hiccup on Spotify's end, as this worked just fine a day
or two ago... will see what I can do.

Thanks a lot! That's a perfect example: it comes with the chapter number

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty - the next generation Spotify implementation

2017-07-09 Thread Learnincurve

Hi Michael and thank you very much for your work on Spotty, which I
started using yesterday evening.

I found a problem in Beethoven Symphony No. 6 and am unsure whether it
is the Spotify tracks themselves that are broken or whether there is
some special handling of "attacca" in Spotify that Spotty is failing to
handle.

In classical music a movement can usually be handled as a "song" in a
playlist (the work) as long as the songs in the playlist are played in
the right order.
Attacca is an instruction that the movements must be played flowing into
each other without a break. The metadata changes as one movement flows
into the next, but there should be no interruption to the sound.
Movements 3-4 and 4-5 of Beethoven's symphony No. 6 are attacca. In
Spotify this causes the end of movement 3 to stop, but movement 4
refuses to play at all. Movement 5 has some problems for the first few
seconds but recovers and plays fine after that.

You can find the tracks by searching for:
Beethoven 6 - Dudamel by Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela,
Gustavo Dudamel

"beethoven 6, dudamel" seems to be a good search.

"Attacca" is a general pain in the @55 as the best case scenario is that
there is an unwanted hiccupp between the tracks. It would be really
great if you could find a good way to handle it (as long as there is
something in the source material that indicates it).

Cheers and thanks again for all the fantastic work you are putting in!

Oh, you're not talking about a playlist, but an album. Yes, album tracks
currently are limited to 50 tracks. Hasn't been an issue before. Can you
tell me what album (or audio-book) you're seeing this? In the official
Spotify app there usually is the "..." menu which has a "Teilen" item.
Could you please send me the link to an example album causing problems?

first. It only shows me the first track of an album. I have to click on
"Album anzeigen" and then on "speichern". After that I can find the
Audio Book under "Albums" in Spotty. I didn't find out how do do this
without the spotify app. In spotty i only see the first tracks of an
Audio Book and didn't find a way to show all the other tracks.

In Spotty you could simply search for the album's name, then select
Albums. Or the author/artist. My kids often search for "TKKG", then pick
"Interpreten", "TKKG", then they have the full list of audio books. They
could follow the artist ("Künstler folgen") to have quicker access. But
they're happy with the way it is :-).

I think Albums are a special kind of playlists in spotify. And these
album playlist seem to be limited to 50 tracks in Spotty.

I'm not aware of the Deezer issue. Can you point me to a relevant
thread?

Playlist should come with more than 50 tracks. Only search is limited to
this number per result type. How are you picking them?

The reason for these kinds of limitations is the fact that Spotify
wouldn't return more than 50 items in one chunk. In order to get 200
items I have to send four requests. But we're limited in the number of
requests we can send per minute or hour.

I just changed from Deezer to Spotify because of the missing Last
seconds in Deezer tracks. Now I found out that there's a worse problem
with Spotify. My wife is listening a lot to Audio Books. Spotify
organises them in Playlist with about 100-200 tracks. I found out that
spotty has a limitation of 50 tracks that isn't changeable. How can I
listen to those Playlists with more than 50 Tracks? Maybe there is a
some Kind of Script that can automatically split those Playlists in

Yes. An early implementation actually worked long before I implemented
the navigation and menus. Unfortunately there are bugs in librespot
which render the effort mostly useless. While you could start playback,
tracks would end long before they are fully played.

This is more of a Sophos than a Spotty problem: virustotal.com considers

trying to submit it as false positive. The nixe Sophos update (signature

ReadyNAS is Debian based. Check with the ReadyNAS community how to
install libio-socket-ssl-perl. It's likely something like "sudo apt-get
install libio-socket-ssl-perl"

I would like to use Spotty but it get this error:

"Spotty requires the Perl module IO::Socket::SSL. You can NOT use Spotty

So does this mean that my trusty old ReadyNAS Pro running their OS 6
firmware is doomed for Spotty?

I am lostany help - anybody?

mDNS uses 5353/UDP (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multicast_DNS). I
guess that's what spotty is using (but don't know, really).

As I said yesterday evening don't worry about it on my account Michael.

I have been meaning to move my production server to a Pi with NFS mount
to NAS for some time so that's what I did last night and all works as
you would expect.
I am keeping the Vortexbox based PC online for ripping purposes (direct
to the NAS via NFS) but LMS is switched off on it.
I can however easily switch it back on if you want testing done for this
CPU.

Thanks as always

Use the full path as logged. And try both binaries in there.

What advertising/discovery technology is used by Spotty?

It's using its own mdns implementation, which fwiu can conflict with avahi.

1 - I presume for the initial authorization you have to run the mobile /
desktop Spotify application on the same device where LMS is running? I
had to use the username/password solution on my LMS/Linux system because
using the client on other devices didn't work.

No, the mobile app rarely is running on the same device as LMS ;-).

Most likely it's a problem with how the spotty helper would advertise
itself in the network. I think there can be conflicts with other
discovery services. May I ask what Linux you're running and whether
you're using some other media server software on it?

2 - After disabling the Official Spotify plugin & Spotify Protocol
handler from LMS: is the cache deleted as well? Or do I have to remove
it manually? If so: which files/dirs do I have to remove in
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache etc.?

Oh, good point. I think the cache folder is called spotifycache or
similar, inside the cache folder you mentioned.

You don't need to set them as favourites just follow them in your
Spotify phone app or desktop version.

Thanks, the first impressions on my RPI/Hifiberry are great!
I have two questions:

Hi.

In the closed thread "The Spotty Spotify implementation," user usc95
indicated he was able to set Spotify's "Release Radar" and "Discover
Weekly" dynamic playlists as Favorites and provided a screenshot showing
that s/he had done so. I am a Spotty user and although I can access RR
and DW with no problem, it would be nice to also set them as Favorites,
which so far I have not been able to do.

I noted that usc95 is using Ipeng. I am an Orange Squeeze user. Can
anyone tell me whether it is the case that while Ipeng can set RR and DW
as Favorites, Orange Squeeze cannot? And if Orange Squeeze can do so,
will someone give me a hint? :)

Many thanks to Michael for Spotty, which I am thoroughly enjoying!!

There has been a problem running the Spotty helper application. Most
likely your operating system and/or platform is not supported. Please
report the following details to me:

Operating system: Debian / armv7l-linux

Did you ever try the Spotty beta? Could you try to run the spotty binary
from the command line to see what that gives? Enable plugin.spotty debug
logging to see what commands it's trying to execute.

What kind of device is this?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty - the next generation Spotify implementation

2017-07-06 Thread Michael Herger

I've noticed the Ogg files are transcoded to FLAC. Is that necessary or
is it something I've set up at some point?

librespot (https://github.com/plietar/librespot), the library doing the
heavy lifting in the background, would only return PCM data to LMS. I
decided to compress that data to flac for improved compatibility and its
lower bandwidth usage. But you can turn it off in Settings/Advanced/File
Formats if you want lowest CPU overhead on your system.

Also, I've noticed that it's possible to add multiple accounts. Is it
then possible to have them somehow separated in the menu structure, so
that my partner and I don't mix our, errrm, disparate musical tastes by
playing from my library always?

If you added multiple accounts, you'd have a menu item at the bottom to
pick what account to use on any given player.

You forgot to say that the IO:Socket:SSL module is required.

Thanks - added.

Just installed it on the latest LMS 7.9.1 running on a Windows Server
2012R2.

It all works great on my RPi/squeezelite based players and even a UPNP
bridge fake player, which didn't work before.

Thanks for keeping it alive!

In the beta thread I forgot to mention I had to authorize via
username/password on my Synology DS 716+ II. Didn't spend much time
trying to authorize via app though. Using username/password worked
immediately.

Some are talking about a requirement for IO:Socket:SSL. This probably
means that the plugin wont work on for example a ReadyNAS Ultra II
(which until recently was where I was running my LMS).

The plugin manager does cache plugin information. It might take a few
hours before it's showing up. Just give it another try in a bit.

I had some Problems with skipping the last seconds in Deezer and I'm
going to try Spotify again. I can't find the spotty Plugin. Is there a
repository I have to add? I'm using LMS 7.9 1488878280 on a Raspberry Pi
3.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty - the next generation Spotify implementation

2017-07-05 Thread mherger

I'm happy to announce Spotty, my next generation Spotify implementation
for Squeezebox. Spotty has no dependency on mysqueezebox.com, nor player
firmware, and supports all types of players. It is using the open-source
librespot library (https://github.com/plietar/librespot) instead of the
soon to be defunct libspotify.

Once you've installed Spotty from the plugins repository, you can safely
un-install all other Spotify related plugins (official plugin, Triode's
3rd party plugin, Spotify Protocol Handler), as well as remove the
Spotify app from your mysqueezebox.com account. Then go to
Settings/Advanced/Spotty and follow the instructions.

On platforms other than Windows you should be able to authorize the
plugin using your mobile or desktop Spotify application. On Windows
unfortunately you'll have to enter username/password (which are NOT
stored in LMS).

Spotty should run on MacOS, Windows (needs MS VC 2015 runtime!), and
many Linux flavors (i686, x86_64, ARM HF & SF). It's known to run
perfectly well on eg. Raspberry Pi 2/3. Unfortunately many NAS devices
using ARMEL CPUs won't be supported (eg. ReadyNAS Duo/NX v2, some of the
cheaper Synology devices). I'm currently running it on a piCorePlayer
setup on Pi3, connected to the aforementioned ReadyNAS Duo v2 - and it's
so much more faster than the NAS alone, it's worth it :-).

Have fun!
