Re: Database problems

2010-12-14 Thread Gerald F. Carroll
I was getting the same problem with mine. I have a G4 Power PC that has
an upgraded processor. I did this so i could run Leopard.

When i got 6.0.6b1 in the mail i made a copy of the program i was
getting the errors with and saved a copy of the data base. I then loaded
the 6.0.6b1 and tried it on the original daa base and i did not get the
errors again. seems what inspired me was that this upgrade was supposed
to help with problems like this.
just a thought

Gerry
I got a series of errors, one for each database
component that needed rebuilding. In each case, the error codes were
the same:

Class-DB what=100 err=130

I have a similar issue as Don had, but worse. I woke up to find
Powermail locked up. It would not quit and I needed to do a force quit.
Upon trying to re-open, Powermail wants to rebuild sort indices and then
when it is done it exits with the same error as above. None of the
options in PowerMail First Aid help, including low level rebuild with
the latest beta.

I now have a corrupt message database that Powermail can not open.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have tried all the usual suspects,
verified/repaired the disk itself, PowerMail First Aid by holding down
command option on startup, etc, to no avail. I have a 4 day old backup,
but would like to recover that mail... I have a copy of Powermail
Salvage from a similar situation a couple years ago, but when I launch
Powermail Salvage on my Intel Macbook or Mac Mini it just does the
spinning beach ball... Does Powermail Salvage even work on Intel Macs?
On Powermail 6 message databases? Any options for me to get my mail back?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Years ago, I did something to iPhoto that enabled it to recognize

I've now upgraded to iPhoto 09 and I can no longer do this and I can't

Re: PM Key still won't register 6.0

2009-01-19 Thread Gerald F. Carroll
I had the same problem December 3rd. The thing i noticed was that the
key they sent the name did not match the name of the key in the
attachment for the actual key. I had to wait a couple days believe there

time the name in the letter matched the attachment they sent for the key.

Hi,

You're way ahead of meI also paid for the upgrade - at least I think
I did - but I have not been sent a key. I still love PowerMail, but
sometimes the quirky support is a little too quirky.

Meanwhile, have you tried dragging the PM key icon on to the PowerMail
application icon? That's how it used to work.

Jim

I paid for upgrade to 6.0 over two and a half weeks ago, was sent a
key, it didn't work. i've double-clicked, dragged, etc. the PM Key
icon. PM just wants to make an attachment out of it. sometime is opens
up Terminal. sometimes i can open as a text message and see the code,
but can't do anything with it.

the icon appears as a generic executable file by default. i've never
seen this type of registration, so don't know what else to do.

I emailed CTM the same day. no response.

Can someone help me with this. Sent a .jpg attachment to a Mac user and

I used PM 5.6.4 on a MacBook Pro running Leopard 10.5.2. Camino is
currently my default browser.

Things were fine until I had a problem with my laptop and ended up
erasing the drive and restoring everything from a back-up clone.

Now, even though Camino is my default browser (and is automatically
opened and used at all other times), when a URL is sent as an attachment
and I choose the attachment from within PM, it tends to open the web
site using an ancient copy of Explorer that I have among my applications.

I would appreciate any guidance about how I can adjust the settings so
that PM always uses Camino (or whatever I choose as my computer's
default browser).

Thanks for your help.

invisible tray

2008-01-30 Thread Gerald F. Carroll
I was running PM 5.6 build 4497

The last few days i had problems with messages not wanting to send and
when i looked into the Out Tray they would show as waiting. I was not
having any trouble receiving messages.
Today when i looked into my Out Tray it was completely blank. The
information at the bottom said there were 904 messages with zero displayed.

I trashed user/Library/preferences/com.ctmdev.Powermail.plist ,then
Powermail prefs in the same folder. I also trashed the User Prefs in my
Powermail files folder. I ran disk first aid (all 5 options) but nothing
seems to resolve this problem.

Finally for no particular reason i exported the Out Tray as a
Powermail exchange file. I clicked inside the empty Out Tray and got a
blue border that it was sort of selected. I then went to the Edit menu
and did a select all then did the Export function.
The file that was exported was also invisible, i could not see the
contents when i double clicked on it and it opened up but it indicated
that all my messages were there.
.
I tried updating Power mail as i noticed there was 5.6.1 build 4499.
This did not resolve my problem with being able to see the messages in
the Out Tray.

Finally i did an import of the power mail exchange file and it appeared
as Out Tray 2 and i can see all 904 files in this new folder.

I tried doing a search for Out Tray hoping i could find something
perhaps wrong with the permissions or something, but i guess it is
embedded somewhere and not readily accessible.

Has any one had this problem.

I just have to figure out how to get rid of Out Tray or it's invisible
contents and replace it with Out Tray 2 or its contents.

Re: [ANN] PowerMail 5.2b1 now available

2005-04-07 Thread Gerald F. Carroll

I tried this latest version 5.2b1 and it seems to have a problem. I tried
it twice and both times gave identical problems.

I have a MAC G4 667Mhz with 1Gb memory. I am running OSX 10.2.8

When i first run the new version it asks for the MAIL folder so i show it
where it is.
Next it brings up Powermail showing my mailboxes.
Down in the right hand bottom corner it is saying it is indexing my mail.
I only have about 4700 pieces of mail. Then when it finishes and i look
at the mail boxes i find in all my mail boxes that March/2005 is-missing
from all mail boxes.

I did not see any evidence of a conversion other than the indexing.

I then quit Powermail and started it holding down the ommand/Option key combo.

I get the menu and i check all five of the first boxes. When it starts up
it says it is doing a low level operation.

I have waited up to an hour and nothing else ever happens. Powermail
never returns. When i did a force quit to see what was running, powermail
is not showing anything.

I then tried starting powermail again but it says it failed unexpectedly.

I have not lost anything as i have things backed up. I have gone back to
ver 5.1

  POWERMAIL 5.2b1 RELEASE NOTES - APRIL 3rd, 2005
--

Features

   * PowerMail now supports the searching of its database using
SpotLight (requires Mac OS X 10.4 build 8A25 or later) in addition to
its built-in, enhanced FoxTrot search engine:
o If you double-click on a found item in Spotlight, it will not just
open it as an orphaned document window in PowerMail but actually
open the corresponding message in the database itself.
o For user who have one or more inactive (archive) databases, open
them with PowerMail 5.2 and reindex them; you will see that all of
your current and archived mail can be searched in one go using
Spotlight, whether or not the message is contained in your current
  mail database.
   * Support for secure transport on SMTP, POP3 and IMAP4 using the StartTLS
command (connection on the same port) in addition to specific SSL port
 connections
o For STMP, this can now be configured both on a per-account basis
as well as for all accounts in the Mail Schedulings?Ķ: Location
  setup pane
   * Added the ability to export tabulated text in Unicode UTF-8 format,
i.e. for exporting international text to recent vversions of FileMaker
 Pro
   * The Spam filtering architecture adds integration with Intego Personal
 Antispam

Improvements and tweaks

   * Times are now displayed relatively to the current time zone, but using
the daylight saving time in effect at that time. This means that a
message sent at 12:00 when Daylight Savings Time (DST) was not active
will continue to be displayed as sent at 12:00 when you look at it days
or months later when DST is active; if you however travel and change
time zones, the message will no longer appear as sent at 12:00
   * Upon marking a spam message as good, its attachments are nowmoved out
 of the trash.
   * When creating multiple mail filters with a spam rating condition, you
can now adjust a slider to have different actions for messages with
different spam levels. Note that when using SpamSieve, it is highly
recommended that you treat messages with a spam rating greater than or
equal to 50 as spam, and the other as good, and that you use the mark
as good/mark as spam commands when SpamSieve makes mistakes, so it can
learn from them. Additionally, note that having multiple filters with a
spam rating condition can make the spam filter assistant to not
behave as expected, that's why a warning dialog will be displayed in
 such cases

trying to do anything with the bad message. It's sort of convuluted but

Re: PM 5 icons and some observations

2004-04-23 Thread Gerald F. Carroll

The HAND on mine works no matter where i grab the border with it.

The icons will take remembering again, i only wish they were a little
darker. They seem sort of washed out. When you are composing a letter
they are much better.

Gerry

In three pane mode...

There are two funny wee arrow things for resizing the window ratios. They
are horid. I keep trying to clean them off my screen. I find the one
between the folder list and my message pane a real pain.

And anyway, when I mouse over it my mouse becomes a hand. I would expect
it to become a double arrow -|- as the only way to move the borders in
up/down or left/right. You can't 'grab' the border and move it _anywhere_.

The arrows on the border aren't really required - are they.

I must say I'm not that impressed by the new icons in the toolbars. Take
for example the Mark as Spam. Is that a fly? What has a fly got to do
with spam? And Mark as Good doesn't follow the theme (or vis versa).
I'm not sure Reply, Forward or Redirect are clear either. I'll
probably turn off the icons - just like I did in PM 4.

I was actually expecting more from PM 5. So far I haven't found anything
really different from PM 4. I already have SpamSieve and that worked
seamlessly once set up. I haven't found that wow that I felt when
FoxTrot searching was introduced. I guess I'm committed now and I will
pay for the upgrade but I don't think its good value. It doesn't feel
like a full version upgrade to me so far.

Re: Unread message errors

2003-09-20 Thread Gerald F. Carroll

I have never had the problem with the count going negative. It's been
some time since i had a message hang up Power Mail. However when it did i
used my old mail application on netscape 4.7 to get rid of the offending
mail. That was the only way i found some relief.

gerry

Discussion of this problem seems to have slowed to a trickle. Does that
mean people have found a workaround, or does it mean that everyone has
learned to live with it?

I'm finding it more and more annoying. Several times a day PM hits a
message (usually from a Yahoo egroup) which brings up a flashing error
dialog [Class=DB what=2 when=6 err=147]. Opening the offending message
(always blank) results in the minus unread message count.

The really irritating thing is that PM will continue to try to download
the same message at each pass, and I sometimes return to my computer to
find the error flashing and a dozen or more copies of the same dud
message. The only solution is to go into my POP server with a web
browser, delete the message at source, then run the DB verification check
with PM. The web browser, btw, has no trouble displaying the content of
the message.

Re: Powermail vs. Thunderbird

2003-09-12 Thread Gerald F. Carroll

This is strange indeed.

I cannot remember the last time Powermail failed on me. I won't say it
hasn't, but never where it doesn't start up right again.

I like powermail because i hate HTML with all it's dancing garbage.

I do not find an irregularity in the updates, Skins don't are not
terribly important to me. They would be nice but i consider them a
frilly dilly. I have three accounts on my powermail. Two are pop
accountes and the last is my .mac account. I use powermail as a backup
for this account and have it set not to delete the mail so i can keep my
mail a little more separated.

Although Powermail will not handle all the HTML mail i get, the ones with
the genuine HTML format display ok in HTML when i want them to. There is
some HTML mail i get that doesn't seem to have the structure starting
with HEAD etc that apparently is the format for HTML that you normally
see. Powermail wont display these but it's no great loss.

Also i probably don't use the many features that can be had in mail
applications and my data base may not be humungous, Powermail still is my
main Emailer. As for a built in spam filter i use Spamfire. It has its
drawbacks, but the extra work of running it first doesn't really bother
me at all.

I see a lot of messages on this discussion group with problems during
upgrades, I have yet to have an upgrade go bad on me or crunch up my
mail. Maybe i'm lucky, but i cannot knock results and i have to go with
what works best for me.

With all the means and extremes i see reading this support list i still
prefer Powermail.

Gerry

Okay, so I've been a *paid* user of Powermail 4 for I don't know, better
then 6 months. And I've been fairly happy. However Thunderbird has been
coming on strong, and I've installed it on a ton of friends computers,
and they've been totally thrilled. So here it is, I hate to give up on
something I've paid good money into, but I see holding on to something
just because I paid for it as a greater evil (two wrongs and all that).

So here's where I'm at:

Powermail Pros:
I paid for it.
It's better then Mail
It's more Stable then Mail.
I have all my email/accounts/etc in it.
I have all my rules setup in it.
Search engine (Foxtrot) works right.
Pretty stable on my 1Ghz TiBook

Powermail Cons:
I paid for it
No built in spam filter
IMAP implementation is lacking.
Crashes on my MDD Dual 1.25Ghz at least once a day.
Interface isn't as slick as Thunderbird

Tunderbird Pros:
Free
Nice, Customizable Interface
Open Source
Spam Filter
Regular Updates
Stable (hasn't crashed yet)
Palm Support coming
News

Thunderbird Cons:
Unknown Future/Not Fully developed
Open Source
No AppleScript (and unlikely in at least the near future)
Import is lacking
A little more bloat

So talk me out of moving to Thunderbird.

-Austin
P.S. don't remind me of what version I'm running right now, I'm aware,
it's been the most stable for whatever reason on this machine.

Now I have another!

I've downloaded the new 4.2 final. Running it (system 10.2.6) creates a

searching for in yellow (on my computer).

I am running a G4 with 1GB memory (667 gh) and two 60 GB drives. I am
also running Jaguar 10.2.6.

I cannot figure out what it is that's being done right with all the
problems i see around me?

If you still have your OS9 boot disk use that temporarily. I had my OS9
disk crash so for a month i had to run on OSX only. I used my OS9 boot
disk a couple of times to fix things that OSX wouldn't let me touch. Not
a neat and tidy way but it worked.

Also thanks for the info on Tri-edre. I have been contemplating buying it
as well and your message just made the decision for me.

There must be a way to hack this. Anybody know where PM store's it's
(very limited choice of) sound files?

in a file that is only accessible from Mac OS 9. Startup in Mac OS 9 and
modify the sounds suitcase.

I do not run Classic or 9 at all - 100% OS X. Any other option?
