Re: [talk-ph] adding administrative jurisdiction tags in highways
Hi Maning Thanks very much for sharing this. It is really useful in the context of the civic engagement platform (SMS text fault reporting software) that we are trialling in Cebu through the World Bank-funded transport crowd sourcing demonstration projects. We will be using the classification of roads according to administrative jurisdiction (national, provincial, municipal, barangay), so that when faults are reported via SMS text and placed on a map which uses OSM tiles we can automatically assign responsibilities to the appropriate organisation (DEPW, DPWH, Barangay). We will seek to align our approach in Cebu with that you are adopting elsewhere in the Philippines, so that the use of tags is consistent, and will keep you all posted on our progress and share some screenshots once the pilot is up and running later in the year. Recently, I have been asked by LGUs interested in using OSM data and they are trying to make sense of our road classification scheme. In the LGU, they usually classify roads according to administrative jurisdiction (i. e. national road, provincial road, municipal road, brgy road). This is more for management purposes to designate who will maintain the roads and from which budget it should come from. Anyway, I am proposing we add another tag to reflect this infomation. Currently, there are two variants listed in the wiki: 1. designation - The tag designation=* is used to record the legal classification of a way. [1] 2. highway:admin - describes the legal/administrative designation of a road, in more detail than the highway key. [2] I am more inclined to use the designation key. Please go over the wiki pages and discuss here what the osmph community should adopt. Mike, I wouldn't say the usernames appearing in the object history on www.osm.org/browse/... are used to fulfill the attribution requirement. First of all it'd break for many different basic operations done in the editors such as splitting and merging ways, copying tags, placing POIs with spatial reference to nearby streets. I kind of agree with Frederik Ramm's statement that (from memory) anything that relies on object id persistence is broken and so is part of the current redaction algorithm. I think a reasonable expectation for a contributor to have is that they'll be attributed as shown in the osm.org/copyright page, i.e. collectively as OpenStreetMap contributors. [OSM-talk] OSM : It's a shame !!!
After having been banned from OSM for not signing the CT, my contributions, that have been well received by the community in the past have been removed by the april 1st license shift. The Foundation has called anyone in the community to reduce lost by remapping the concerned areas. However, it was not meant that the data were simply to be copied, deleted and re-pasted into the map using a fake account. This seems to be the case however, where my contributions were shamelessly copied and pasted back into the map. Of course I kept a dump from before april 1st where my name is linked to a number of roads in a specific area showing I denied the CT. And if I download the same area in OSM of today I find that this area has NOT been changed for a fraction of an inch. The old and new area projected on different layers in JOSM fit exactly on each other, even at the highest magnification available (15 cm = 1 inch on screen) The user involved is called It's so funny and I believe that fake account with obfuscated characters was not chosen for nothing, because it cannot be retrieved in OSM, at least not using JOSM Show info , and osm.org does not provide a contact info (otherwise I would have contacted this user first). However, it means that the current copy of the OSM database is not ODBL compliant anymore because parts of it remain clearly CC-by-SA , and these areas are plain copies of the work I carried out. Hi Gert, First, I'd like to make a semantic point – you were not banned from OSM for not signing up to the CTs, you are still welcome to contribute, as long as you contribute in a way that's compatible with the new license. More importantly though, what's happened here is absolutely reprehensible. They've violated your copyright, and endangered the whole project. Do you have a link to the changeset in which your data has been copied? I'm sure people will be more than willing to revert the change, and construct data from the sources we can use. I was under the impression that OSM is riddled with data that is not .odbl compliant. In some of my personal mapping my sources may not have been fully personal observation which is more or less what I understand .odbl requirements to be which is why I requested my contributions be deleted since I couldn't remember absolutely which were which. My more recent updates are .odbl compliant. The CANVEC imports I did could be quickly redone. In fact I note that some bright spark has been reimporting CANVEC 7 information over CANVEC 6 so suddenly there are lots of duplicates that the bots don't pick up because the source is different. [OSM-talk] Copy-and-paste remapping
Hi, we've had a few cases of copy-and-paste remapping reported to DWG, where in a bid to save data from the relicensing axe over-eager mappers copied and pasted existing data, thereby making the data look as if it was originally contributed by them. This is, obviously, not ok and rather than save anything, such actions stop others from properly remapping the area (because it all looks clean), and comes back to haunt us later, tarnishinig OSM's reputation. Later removal of such data will have a knock-on effect of all that has been built on top. Don't do it. Where cases of copy-and-paste remapping are detected, the changesets in question can be added to the list on this wiki page http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Quick_History_Service/Changeset_Lists#Copy_-_Paste_Remapping and will then be treated during the relicensing process as tainted, i.e. the data created in these changesets will not be kept. There are two drawbacks to this: 1. OSM Inspectors's license change view does not take this list into account, i.e. the areas thus remapped still look clean on OSMI even though they will be dropped later. 2. An object that has been edited by non-agreers and agreers alike might be partly saved in the license change; however if the object is deleted and re-created in a copy-and-paste action and the changeset flagged as tainted, then the object will be gone completely. There is a reason this can't be implemented quickly, yes. In its internal database, OSMI keeps the full history of any object ever touched by a non-agreer; objects that have never been touched by a non-agreer don't even make it into the database (and since non-agreers cannot edit, this database can only get smaller, never larger). The concept of CT agreers making tainted edits means that additional objects will have to be injected into the database. This doesn't sound like a big issue but the whole system has been constructed around the idea that objects are never added. I'm sure I can find some way to do it but its likely to be a kludge. Is the functionality the same on the JOSM license plugin? Yes. Looking at the description of the first set and random samples of the next two, it seems they are all in Europe. Is that correct? That will highlight only changes from the original source, and only those differences will need to be manually merged into OSM. Except you won't see possible errors introduced after the first import by OSM editors. I think it's useful to see the diff between the current state of both databases. -- Alan Mintz alan_mintz+...@earthlink.net ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

Sorry, but if I understood what you have done correctly, it is not necessary. Pavel has not agreed to the CTs (because of the couple of changesets that he imported with wikipedia data), his changesets that are ok are already listed on the page.
[Talk-it] è possibile salvare Bing o PCN in locale ?
Ciao a tutti .

Tror att sista poängen bland sidans mål (Eventually create a search engine for public transport between arbitrary A and B in Sweden) inte riktigt hör hemma där.
Re: [Talk-at] highway=service + area=yes : Alternative?
Guten Tag! ___ Talk-at mailing list
