Re[2]: The Bat! 3.0.1 Beta cycle finished
Hello Avi, AY Stefan, this was the first good beta cycle in a long time. I agree. One of the major goal for our team now is to keep the tempo and motivation restored during this cycle. There was a good punch at the start, but it would be better not to provoke such punches in future :-) - Improved Windows-compatible editor (proper wrapping, more functionality from MicroEd plus UNICODE support) AY I hope you will find a better way to handle actions on strings of AY words like changing case. What I'm thinking of is making Ctrl+[/]\ working different if a portion of text is selected... - Adding message base encryption to the Professional Edition AY Without this, it seems like there is no significant differentiator AY between the professional and the home edition. There is - working with security tokens. AY As a security measure, I would also like to see some more AY effective encryption of passwords. If you don't use TLS connection or at least CRAM-MD5 authentication, there is no point in stronger encryption of passwords. The only way to keep a password secure is to encrypt it with some password which should be entered on start-up. Or passwords should be kept on security tokens (which is possible with the Pro edition). AY I find it disturbing that a small utility like The Bat! UnPass can AY expose all of my current passwords on TB. The size doesn't matter :-) As long as there is a programmable way to reach passwords without user's interaction, that small piece of code can be used for password extraction, no matter how complex the algorithm is. AY Stefan, if you would publish a better job offer, then you would surely AY succeed in finding a good writer very quickly. There are many AY qualified people looking for work these days, but - as I mentioned AY before - your advertisement was not very attractive. Point taken. From Charlene's messages I infer she's talking about a backup copy of her own digital photographs. Especially from the field e-mail may be a viable solution, although I wouldn't do it since a lot of servers will simply delete the attachment. Many others would mangle it, all in all the chance of losing the backup is much greater with e-mail than with CDs lost through postal services. If my inference is correct, my advice is a small and rather cheap device known as Vosonic's X-Drive. It's nothing more than a slightly oversized card reader (capable of reading all flash memory cards) with a notebook HD in it. It's a two-button solution - just power it on, put in your memory card and push Transfer, 1 GB takes a few minutes. At home (or in the hotel) you connect the X-Drive via USB 2.0 to your computer and copy or load the images to it. TB! Help (Was: Re: The Bat! 3.0.1 Beta cycle finished)
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 ST (excluding help - I really do not have any idea how long would it ST take and we are still looking for writer). This is clearly a problem and one that will bemore greater as time passes; each change to the program renders the help more and more out of date. You (RitLabs) seem have trouble finding a writer and when you do s/he's going to have to have time to know the product well enough to write about it. The thing is you are awash with people that (a) know a fair bit about the product and (b) are keen to see it progress, that is the Beta Testers. Other prodcuts have had help files compiled by groups of users why not this one? You would, of course, need to do a bit of work to start with. You would, for example, want to set up - say in MS Word - templates for styles and things that your group of volunteer authors could use to produce consistant work. You'd have to provide an /in/ to the relevant programmer to answer specific questions from the authors to cover/clarify points that the user has insufficient knowledge on and your have to set up some mechanism for receipt and compilation of the help file from its constituant parts. However, I imagine that all of this would amount to much less work than writing the help file yourselves. Once the file's been written I imagine that there would be no shortage of volunteers for translation duties. TheBat Wish : multiple mail identities
Hi - I'd like to add another wish to the wish list: multiple mail identities. On some email accounts I have more than one domain coming into them (say and and ). I'd like to be able to associate all of these identities with the account and select the identity I'm using when creating new/replying to messages with that account. Even better, the bat should work out when I reply to a message that was addressed to one of these identities that it needs to set the identity correctly. So if I reply to an incoming message to , it will pre-select the identity of as my from address. Call them account profiles I suppose. Anyone else want this? Since msi-v3rc6 my CPU wont cool anymore
Dear all, So since I tried this very strange 'msi 3rc6 Version' my System is out of balance. Means, the CPU is running at 100% where the Memory is used at arround 46% (using 256 MB RAM). I can try what ever combination but it wont get better. - Currently I'm using v3.0.1.33 with /NO/ plug-in at all. - TB! wont leave my Memory when closing. - When restarting TB! it has not stored the last display features and I must all set them by hand. (see picture) - Once I closed TB! (but did not remove it from Memory by hand) and rebooted. I then got an AV. I was not able in writing the Value as the re-boot process cleared the AV-window. At this moment I can't work properly with TB! open as the high CPU is blocking proper usage of CPU from other applications. In two instances it even crashed my System. As I have jet not installed the latest Version release yesterday I still as you folk to have a look into it. All my cry the last few days has not given any result. 10/14/2004 MB I really didn't think that I had the computer skills to be able to MB contribute, among the really able people on a list where I'd been MB lurking for awhile. Beta testing is less a matter of computer skills per se, than it is a matter of using the software enough to find out where it breaks, and being willing to document what happened and where. See the following bug report: https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=3924 This appears to be causing some odd jumping, admittedly not in Mail Ticker, but it may be related. -- Best regards, Stuartmailto: Using The Bat! v3.0.1 RC6 On Windows 98 4.10 Build # Current beta is (none) | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

Dear Alexander, -- Donnerstag, 14. Oktober 2004, 18:24:37: And are you using 3.0.1.33 now? This is the 3.01 release version. Yes to your question. I just downloaded the latest release and saw that it's the same as I downloaded yesterday. If I were you... I'd... Your answer is far the best for a long time that it seams to make sense to me. Please no offend to all others. Let me as some questions to have it got right: 1. copy the entire TB folder somewhere safe you mean the apps folder or the data folder? 2. backup the registry settings will do ... 3. make a backup from within TB will do also ... Any thing I have to consider? I've never used this feature. 4. uninstall TB ok ... 5. wipe *anything* left from the installation (especially check if you still have entries in the control panel, add/remove programs, remaining files, plugins, registry entries and whatever else) Control Panel? which one is this (I run a German version) 6. make a clean re-install do NOT yet restore your backup ok! 7. freshly create your account(s) in TB is one enough or all of them? 8. check what happens Will report back! If the error occurs again now, your system is corrupted somehow... hope not /finger crossed/ If it doesn't happen with a clean re-install fresh account data, its something with your TB files, or the TB registry entries. Try restoring your backup you made with the internal backup utility. If it still works, it was your registry, it not... uh-oh... how could we find the faulty message, or folder, or whatever it may be? hope not either as there are so many of them /double crossing my fingers/ -- best regards www.EddieCastelli.com Eddie :ec: on Tour Current beta is (none) | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

Hello Lynn, Here's a trivial one I just discovered .. the up/down/in/out buttons on the NFS window don't show alternate glyphs if you are using them. That's not a bug. The many alternate glyphs.bmp need to be updated to add an extra row for the missing icons. -- Best regards, Miguel A. Bonjour Dierk, Il est indéniable que Dierk Haasis a proféré le jeudi 14 octobre 2004 à 16:24:15 GMT +0200 DH 2. I'd really like to use more than one dictionary at once (like DH Word can), since I use German and English in the same message DH lots of the time. About two years ago (possibly more) I sent a similar wish but had no reaction neither from TheBat guys nor from other users. I'm glad to hear that I wasn't the only one to wish this feature (available in Poco Mail for example). I guess plenty of us have to write their mails using two different tongues (German and French in my case). I don't know whether the spelling module used by TheBat (Sentry Spelling-Checker Engine) allows it, but I'd love to see this feature implemented soon. -- Best regards FRANCIS Webpage: http://faustroll.net, http://butsu.org PGP-Key: http://www.segond.de/pubkey/segond.asc Current beta is (none) | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

PGP bug revisited
Hello TBBETA Members! Anybody remember the problem where CKT versions of PGP didn't correctly decode special characters, like German umlauts becoming Hex-code? Quick rehash: CKT builds are usable with TB via plug-in; there has been one way back by RL, which was later superseded by one programmed between RL and Imad Faiad (who apparently has retired). For years everything worked fine until some day we were presented with messages that upon decrypting showed Hex-code instead of special characters. For use with TB I went to GPG with GPGShell, both of which I updated today. Unfortunately GPG showed me a message of no trust because not signed for keys that have been signed and trusted [awkward grammar intended] by me. So I reverted to PGP 6.5.8CKT and still found the special character bug. Is there a chance this bug will be hunted down? And either solved or validly identified as a problem of PGP CKT? -- Dierk Haasis :Dierk: Copy 'n' Concept The Bat 3.0.1.33 on Windows XP 5.1 2600 Service Pack 2 Chat info for ICQ, AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Jabber upon request Don't let a little dispute injure a friendship. Re: fix for the panel bug
Hi Dierk Haasis, Thursday, October 14, 2004 you put on your sharpest glasses and informed me -us-: I'd rather suggest to compress nonetheless; there's solutions out there that do compress very large files into a number of smaller ones with the user specifying the upper limit, like classical floppy or a 650 MB CD (ideal for backups and archiving, particularly for large amounts of RAW files from DSLR). Since I was recipient that time, I could not have any influence on that. I personally do compress by RAR. In earlier versions of TB it was implemented in the process of splitting, at least that's what I guess. The attachments in fact were all *.rar files -so I think TB is a smart one ;-) Now, a couple of weeks ago, I see no attachment at all. Seems to be empty, and TB freezes. Yesterday I found out, that it is not necessarily a TB-problem alone. Just for the thrill of it I reinstalled my V 2.04 and had the same crash. But I know id did work weeks ago. Maybe the upgrading to Win XP SP2 has something to do with it; heard of a feature that now allows Windows to remember the downloaded nature of a file that came from the Web and may therefor be a potential threat. You can read a lot of things about what SP2 does with windows, so maybe I am not completely wrong. But after last night I will not blame TB for the flaw alone anymore. Of course, TB's built-in solution would smooth the work-flow a bit, nonetheless TB still does not compress, which means you still send out 70 MB instead of perhaps only 25 MB. The files I send are compressed and stored as one file, sent by TB in pieces and hopefully reassembled on the recipient's side. My compressor of choice: www.squeez.com. Current version is 4.2, a beta for 5.x is already tested. I think I will take a look at it, thank you for your effort! -- greetings Charlene Ferrara mailto: :star: Current beta is (none) | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/
