Re: [Therion] DistoX2 waterproof case

2018-08-29 Thread Владимир Георгиев via Therion
Hi

The guy that makes them is from Bulgaria and I have seen and used the cases
a few times.
They are pretty good, sturdy and fully waterproof. Some of the models are
with a wireless charger so you don't need to ever open the case.
They make the disto a bit larger of course, but it is not a problem.

Last time I spoke with Stanislav, a few weeks ago, he said that currently
he doesn't have the time to produce them. But you can write him and ask.

Yes, that's right, you can define any number of entrances like this.
Although I admit I haven't used the "survey 01 -title “Some Cave name”
-entrance 1" syntax. So far I have always listed the entrances within the
surveys with several "station XX "Some other entrance name" entrance"
lines.

Does it make a difference which syntax is used?

Hi

My Russian is not that good, so I will reply in English.
The kml model can export the entrances, if that is what you mean by
"объектов". To get the name of the cave to display, you have to mark one or
more stations as entrances. Something like this:

  centerline
cs lat-long
fix 0 11:22:33.4 22:33:44.5 1234 # set the GPS coordinates and
elevation of station 0
station 0 "Some cave name" entrance # Mark station 0 as an entrance
and set the name to be displayed. Not necessarily the same station as the
one with the coords.

Re: [Therion] Therion 5.4.1 Windows Installer incomplete installs

2017-10-16 Thread Владимир Георгиев via Therion
Michal

The current installer should offer an option to install only for the
current user, which will not require admin rights.

But as Bruce mentioned, the current installer is not quite intelligent and
it is very easy to mess the locations if you have an older version
installed for all users (in Program Files) and install the newer one for
the current user. These are different locations and different registry
entries.

Most of the suggestions so far were to revert the installer to the previous
one, which had only the All users option and required admin rights. I think
you are the first one to actually say that you need a non-admin installer.

Making it admin only as before is the easiest thing to do, and "tried and
true" like Bruce said :)

If I make the installer more intelligent it could detect if the app is
already installed in a particular location for All/Current. And if it is
installed, it will reuse the location without asking for it. This way there
should be no conflicts. To change the install type users would have to
first uninstall. This will not be very hard, but still will require some
testing and I don't have the time lately.
I'll see if I can test it next week. Otherwise I will revert the installer
code to the previous one, but building and publishing the actual installer
files is up to Stacho and Martin.

I got your idea :)
That means making the installer non-admin only, so it will always install
the shortcuts and registry entries for the Current user only. And the
default suggested install location will be in the user's AppData folder,
not in Program files.

The theoretical Therion user who shares a computer with another Therion
user will have to install their own copy :)

Yes, the location is flexible. I think it was that way in the old installer
too.
But there are also global Start menu shortcuts and registry entries that go
into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. For those the installer needs admin rights. If it
doesn't have them, it comes down again to the All users vs Current user
problem.

The images work fine on my system (Win 7 with Firefox). I scrolled around
the page and did not see any placeholders. All the thumbnails seem to be
there and clicking them opens the larger images.

I suppose that it could be caused by your ISP or another proxy/firewall
software in between. Have you checked from other computers or locations?

Re: [Therion] Question/Problem with customizing text labels

2017-05-15 Thread Владимир Георгиев via Therion
There is also a "min-symbol-scale" option in layout, which hides smaller
symbols. It might work similar to what you are doing in the font_setup
metapost.
You can hide the smallest items, not the largest ones, but hiding the
larger ones is not that useful anyway.

Re: [Therion] Question/Problem with customizing text labels

2017-05-15 Thread Владимир Георгиев via Therion
Henry

After a talk with Stacho, he thought that it would be better not to
increase the list of sizes. They are restrictive, in a sense that you have
a limited set and can not use anything larger or smaller or in-between
sizes.
There was a "scale" option that already existed, but was not enabled, so he
enabled it.

For point and line items you can use this option:
"-scale ", where is the scale factor. The normal size
corresponds to 1.0, but you can use any value >0.

Hi

Good to hear from you.
Initially I started with smaller pull requests, but because there was no
activity at all on the original repo, I dropped that.
Now that the commits have piled up it will require some amount of creating
branches and rebasing, but I will try to do that in the next couple of
days. I will split them in several features.

Hi Martin

Happy new year.
It's good to see that there is some activity on the Github and Stacho and
Martin are making updates.

When you say that we can submit pull requests, do you think that someone
will have the time to review and approve them? There are already 5 requests
pending for some time.
In my fork of the repo there are other changes too
https://github.com/vldgeorgiev/therion/wiki/Changelog
I can make a pull request combining all of the changes if there is interest
and if the authors can review and merge them.

I can't confirm or test the issue, but if the -xl size is too small, you
can check out the beta version here
https://github.com/vldgeorgiev/therion/wiki
A few weeks ago I added three more large symbol sizes. E.g. 2XL, 3XL and
4XL. They might work in your case.

If I have time next week I will see about the frame size and why it is
drawn smaller.

Re: [Therion] Simple Android Software with export to Therion

2016-08-31 Thread Владимир Георгиев
I have been using a Galaxy Note 8 (with Topodroid and Distox) for over an
year and a half and I am very happy with it. The screen is large enough for
detailed and comfortable drawing and the digitiser is precise.

It is not waterproof or rugged, but I have solved this with a simple
waterproof plastic pouch for tablets and a custom made hard carrying case.
The pen itself is not waterproof, but with care it lasts long enough and
replacements are very cheap on eBay.

I can post pictures of the setup in a couple of weeks when I get back from
caving. I think I have already posted them some time ago.

[Therion] Updated KML exports and other changes

2016-06-13 Thread Владимир Георгиев
Hi

Lately I updated the KML map and model exports to include more information
like the cave depth and length, map-comment, entrances and better titles.
They also include the map or survey structure so you can turn parts of the
map/model on or off in Google Earth.
I spoke with Bruce Mutton about these and he gave me some nice ideas and
also tested the exports.

There is a list of these and other Therion and XTherion changes here
https://github.com/vldgeorgiev/therion/wiki/Changelog
I wrote them down to keep the list more clear.

Again if someone wants to test the changes I would be thankful for
comments. The compiled Windows apps can be downloaded here
https://github.com/vldgeorgiev/therion/wiki

And the code is also published in the forked repo if someone want to
recompile it.

finding where a particular piece of data is stored in Therions data
structures. But for the plan kml it should be possible.

That is an interesting idea too. I will read the old discussions.
Placing the link properties and parsing them is not a problem. The thing is
how to display them best in the outputs and how to easily control them.

Thanks Martin, that's great. Let me know when Budaj moves the source from
"test" to the "therion" repo so I can push my recent changes.

Can you ask him how he would like to share the repo in case me or someone
else wants to
make changes?
If I make a fork of the repo the changes will have to be approved and
merged by him periodically, which is the better way if he has the time :)
Or if he gives me access I can work directly with the repo.

If it is not too much trouble, can you ask Budaj what was used for building
the Windows installer and where is the source? The people here that use
Therion (not that many unfortunately) work on Windows.

2016-05-13 Thread Владимир Георгиев
Bruce

I like the app and would like to make it better as far as I can. So far I
am doing small patches here and there in features that I needed for my own
usage, nothing systematic. The source code is quite large and the features
are a lot, so the todo list will be endless :)
If you have suggestion about the html, kml or other outputs, let me know
and I'll see what I can do. For the kml I was wondering what else to put in
the description field besides the length and depth.

The next feature I was considering is the option to add images inside of
scraps(with "point image [file name]..."), and not only in the layout with
map-image. I need to research some more about inserting images in TEX and
Metapost and how to position them.

As for the Windows installer, I could build it, but I don't have the source
for the install script. I can recreate it if needed and if there is
interest...
If you are willing to take the risk, I can send you the compiled
therion.exe :)

[Therion] A couple of Therion updates: KML and line-rope

2016-05-12 Thread Владимир Георгиев
Hi

Here are a couple of updates I did, which might be useful to someone.

1) KML model and map export. When exporting a KML it always got a title of
"Therion KML", which made it harder to navigate when several files are
opened in Google Earth.
I updated the title to contain the survey title in whatever language is
selected for the export.
The description contains the length and depth for the cave.

2) I wanted to use a rope line, but the existing symbol for it was hidden
and not completely finished. I used the existing metapost, which displays
the rope very nicely, with a couple of additions. You can control whether
the rebelay rope loops are shown with the option "-rebelays on/off" and the
anchor points with "-anchors on/off"
The line handrail looked very similar to rope, so I changed the little dots
to squares.

Attached are the code patches and a couple of screenshots.
If someone recompiles and tests those I would be happy to hear the comments
:)

[Therion] XTherion: Line simplification

2016-04-06 Thread Владимир Георгиев
In most cases it does, but if the points in a line are too many it still
leaves more points than I would like. And some remaining points are still
very close together because the line segment had some micro-curves that the
Bezier lines tries to preserve.
In other cases "Conver to curve" doesn't work and does nothing, but I
haven't checked the code to see why.

Sometimes I just need a simple "rougher" line without curves so I added
this option.

[Therion] XTherion: Line simplification

2016-04-06 Thread Владимир Георгиев
Hi guys

There was one option I was missing in XTherion to reduce the number of
points in a line.
I work mostly with Topodroid and depending on the settings while drawing,
in some cases I end up with lines with hundreds of points. This makes them
harder to edit, enlarges the TH2 file and slows the compilation.

I added a menu Edit line > Simplify line that reduces the points. There is
also a setting in xtherion.ini called "xth(gui,me,line,simp_limit)" that
controls how smooth/rough the line becomes. A value of 10 seemed to work
well for me.
One limitation is that Bezier lines become simple lines.

I've attached a few screenshots, the patch file, and the xtherion.tcl file.
Would be nice is someone can test how it works with their scraps.

[Therion] Setting Scrap Colours

2016-04-04 Thread Владимир Георгиев
Olly

This is a very nice addition indeed.
I tested it and it works with single level maps, but it doesn't seem to
work with nested maps, or I missed something about the usage.

It works with several map definitions, not being merged in an overall map
like:

*  map M1 -colour [60 70 80]*

*  endmap*

*  map M2 -colour [60 70 80]*

*  endmap  ...*

*  export map  pdf*
However when I group M1 and M2 in a larger map(without specifying a colour)
it overrides the colours and they do not appear.

*  map MGlobal*

*M1*

*M2*

*  endmap*

To me it seems better that the lower level map colors are kept, unless the
global one explicitly specifies a colour.
I guess the example above was done with several map defs without grouping
them in a larger one.

Also, when I have several map defs(without colours and without a global
map) and specify "colour map-fg map" the pieces get colored randomly.
Maybe this is the expected behavior, but to me it sounds more logical to
use the default map-fg colour until a map specifies one explicitly.
The moment I set a global map (without colour) the default map-fg steps in.

Am I asking too much :)

Can you send me some file in which the background move fails so I can try
to duplicate the issue?
I tried with a few of mine, but it works with all of them, so it might be
due to some differences in the scraps.

If you mean my modifications about the coloring, I just tested it and the
double right click and it works for me. The background can be moved as
before.
At least on Windows. What did you test on?
I don't recall messing with the mouse code...

[Therion] Survex Terrain model problem

2016-03-24 Thread Владимир Георгиев
Thanks for the info. Seems that the data is not exported to the .3d
format indeed. If I have the time I will try to find the place in the
Therion sources where that export happens.

I didn't understand that part. What would be easy to update?
Those two functions are part of the Survex source (img.c) from what I see.

Hmm, you seem to be talking about the original Survex data file. I see the
format is similar to the .th files, but I meant producing a 3D file
exported from Therion.

In the Therion data I have a CS command and a fixed station, but maybe this
is not exported to the 3D file for consuming by Survex. Most of the 3D file
looks binary and I can't find out whether it contains this info or not.

[Therion] Survex Terrain model problem

2016-03-24 Thread Владимир Георгиев
Hi

I was experimenting with the .3d model exported from Therion to Survex.
The Survex viewer (Aven) has an option to display the terrain too. When I
go to View > Terrain I get an error "No coordinate system specified in
survey data".

In the Therion data there is a coordinate system specified, fixed station
as well as terrain data and it is displayed in Lox.
Has anyone seen this error or had success in showing the terrain in Survex?

There was a bug resulting from my changes. The new stations are triangular,
while the other points oval, and changing the type of point resulted in
improper drawing or a crash.

Well, in general I think a VCS would be nice, but it's up to you or the
authors or whoever else maintains the code. There are many public free
services like github, etc. I currently placed it in a private git on
Assembla. Can make a public one too.

OK. You changed what I think is the default line size too

Not very important. I changed the line point, and Bezier

line control point sizes. Actually they were already available in the Ini
file before my changes, but I haven't noticed them.
I'll see if there is a wiki about the xtherion.ini settings. If not I will
see if I can make one about some of them.

Don't know that you mean by "dosify" :)
Indeed there was some whitespace in most of the files. I didn't remove it
exactly to avoid making a large patch/commit.

About building the packages, I actually tried building xtherion only, not
the whole Therion. But I suppose that xtherion should not affect the rest
of the build process.

[Therion] XTherion modifications

2016-02-19 Thread Владимир Георгиев
Yes, the colors could use some tweaking depending on how people use the map
editor. And likely on their monitor.
I work mostly with Topodroid, which exports a Therion drawing directly and
I don't have an image at the background. But still some editing is needed
usually with Therion.

Adding the orientation should not be a problem. It can probably either show
the arrows all the time without needing to select the points, or show
something smaller. I'll check it in a few days.

[Therion] XTherion modifications

2016-02-17 Thread Владимир Георгиев
Hi all

There are some modifications that I made to the XTherion and would be
interested if someone can test them and share their opinion. They were
quickly patched up and I am no TCL developer so there might be a bug or two.

Initially I needed to have an XTherion shortcut to delete a line point so I
started looking through the source. I added Ctrl+Shift+D for deleting a
line point, Ctrl+Up/Down for zooming in and out in the map editor.

The all blue items in the map editor were harder to use so I tried to
colorize them. E.g. walls to be "brick red", pits are magenta, rock borders
dark gray, slope is yellow, etc. The non-selected scrap is light gray.
The station point I made orange and a triangle instead of a circle so it is
more visible.
I will probably add other colors after I work with the editor more.

I have attached a couple of screenshots of how it looks, the xtherion
source and the "compiled" xtherion tcl app.

Btw, where does the source live, besides the zip archive on the site? Is
there a source control repo somewhere that people can contribute to?
For experimenting with the colors I used a private git repo. I admit I
haven't checked the licensing for the code.

Here are the colors that I changed and added them to the INI file.
#set xth(gui,me,activefill) red
#set xth(gui,me,pasivefill) green
#set xth(gui,me,controlfill) blue
#set xth(gui,me,highlightfill) cyan
#set xth(gui,me,unselectedfill) lightgray
#set xth(gui,me,wallcolor) brown
#set xth(gui,me,pitcolor) magenta
#set xth(gui,me,slopecolor) gold
#set xth(gui,me,rockcolor) snow4
#set xth(gui,me,bordercolor) turquoise
#set xth(gui,me,stationcolor) darkorange

Sorry guys, the mail below was addressed to Marco about the Topodroid app,
but I sent it to the mailing list by accident :)

[Therion] Shortcut to delete a line point

2016-02-04 Thread Владимир Георгиев
A couple of questions:

The Cave3D has an export function in ASCII and binary. What format does it
actually export for both options? Is it for internal use or it can be
reused from other apps?

I have two working folders from two different caves, one is in the default
TopoDroid folder, the other is with a different name. I can't change
between them now, but it used to work some time ago. Now only the default
one is shown.
There is no OK button, so I'm not sure it is accepting the new folder name
when I tap on it.

[Therion] Loch settings and language

2016-01-06 Thread Владимир Георгиев
Hi

Is there any way to make Loch remember the settings for what to show in the
scene, walls, type of station names, comments, etc?
Or does Loch always use some hardcoded values?

Also, is it possible to the UI language of Loch?
It uses Bulgarian, which is the default for my Win, but I would rather
switch to English from time to time.

Thanks

[Therion] Rope line

2016-01-05 Thread Владимир Георгиев
Well, since line "rope" doesn't seem to work, I ended up using the user
rope line from the sample metapost code
http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php/metapost#colour_dependant_visualization_of_symbols
It is Christian Jackson's code with slight modification of the pattern.

  code metapost
def l_u_rope (expr P) =
  T:=identity;
  pickup pensquare scaled (0.8*u/10);
  if known colour_rope:
thdraw P withcolor colour_rope;
  else:
thdraw P withcolor 0.1black+0.7white;
  fi;
  pickup PenD;
  thdraw P dashed dashpattern(on 1bp off 3bp on 1bp off 1bp);
enddef;
  endcode

[Therion] Rope line

2015-12-23 Thread Владимир Георгиев
Hi

I was trying to add a line:rope to a map, but without any success.
In the data.mp file I see there is a definition of the "l_rope" line, which
is equal to the "l_rope_SKBB", but the rope line I drew didn't appear with
either the UIS or the SKBB symbol-set.

I also tried including some metapost code in the layout to define the line,
but again without result. The metapost worked for other line types like
ropeladder, but not for rope.

A workaround is to define a custom symbol "u:rope", but I wonder why the
built-in one doesn't work.
Any ideas?
