I second what Janice said, you betcha. Our daughter and son were each married several years before Jim was struck with TM but I guarantee you that either one of them would have ,chosen to have their Dad in there wedding even with a stumble or two than to not have him there. I know our Jodi said of DAD that TM didn't define him,it was just a name and he was still perfect in their eyes, Cherish the memories

RE: [TMIC] (no subject)
Trudy, I just changed providers and clinics because of the nurse. I could not get return calls on labs, cultures, prescriptions, nothing I would be waiting all day for a call back and then when I would call at the end of the day, she hadn't even listened to her morning messages! I had to wait 6 months for Lamisil (yes, 6 months) where the fungus was 'in my system' per the provider and I was the one that had to take care of finally getting the insurance approval and all of the paperwork done that the nurse normally takes care of. Having been a lead nurse, this is totally unacceptable and lacks total patient care! I even tried to talk to the doctor but couldn't even get through to her! Not too many of us can pay for an office call just to go in and discuss a provider's incompetent nurse. SO frustrating!!! I had a horrible UTI which can be bad for a non-TM person but some of us can t even feel it when we have the symptoms so they often times will be really bad before we even know we have it! I made an appt. with the new clinic and one of the doctors from the first clinic saw me and when he said he would send a copy of the culture to Dayton, I quietly told him I was not going back. He looked up and asked me if I would mind telling him why and I did. I was very nice and explained the facts and he patted my hand and thanked me saying I was not the first to do this. I told him a nurse could make or break a provider which he agreed. He said he was going to have a 'closed door' talk with my provider when he got back to his clinic. WHEW!!! Was that a bit of venting, or what??? I even surprised myself!! Re: [TMIC] (no subject)
The reason I am curious about sarcoid is I got out my initial brain MRI from 6 years ago and it was one of the differential diagnosis. I have 9 spots on my brain and a lesion -T4-T5 in my spinal cord. Forty days in and still progressing the neuro finally put me on predinsone. It seemed to stop the progression. Sarcoid can come back. I have been on prednisone 2 times this year due to sinus infection that was making all my other problems worse. I felt great for about 3 weeks then slowly feeling worse. Just need to know whether there is a connection between all these cysts and my neurological problems. **New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. Although I am not sure if your doctor has more in mind or not, the Neti Pot is great. I have allergy induced asthma, and hate to take meds year around when I already take so much with my meds for my TM, so I only take my asthma stuff when needed. I am a proud Neti Pot user, and actually have gotten many to use it as well. We get a lot of pollen from our oak tree, and it seems to sit in my nose and throat and work it's way up into my sinuses. The Neti works so well, and you get some immediate relief. Even with a sinus infection, you get some relief right away. I don't know of any medication that will give you that. I highly recommend it, and hope it'll help you. Hi, Linda! This is what makes this site such a wonder! I, too, have the greasy line' around the band but had never attributed it to anything! I have a real problem with full blown sweating above the T4 level right up to the top of my head which I had never had problems with before! Plus!! I have to lather lotions and creams on my legs and feet. Strange, huh? My left side is the very worse when it comes to spasms, coldness, and pain but it is by far the strongest. It was the first side to become paralyzed. The right side had hypersensitivity from the start and still has touch sensations but feels dead inside as the left side also does. The right side is also the one that drags. But when I drive it does come to the rescue as it controls the gas and brake. I rarely use the hand control. I did this for a year as I tried to return to work 40 miles away. Isn't that just amazing? I still feel like I am full of wet sand from the chest down even tho I can move around pretty well. I walk like a drunk so it's a good thing to carry a cane when we go somewhere otherwise I get funny looks and chuckles behind hands (that's true!)!!! It's too bad there aren't neurologists and providers reading all of our info They could sure benefit from it! Thanks for the response. My feet are hot all the time!!! It is hard in the winter when I have to wear shoes. I could not wear a pair of heels to save my life. I have tried in the shoe store and have to hold on or I will fall over! I am so glad for the response, at least there is one other person who has the grease line, whatever it is. Hi Linda, I don't seem to sweat below my lesion at T8 - T10. I think that was mentioned on the TM Forum at one point and Marieke said that with spinal chord injuries a person doesn't sweat below the lesion. RE: [TMIC] (no subject)
Linda, I don't have the banding all the time. Mostly it is when I am tired, stressed, or not feeling well. Some times it is just there for no apparent reason but during those times it seems more tolerable than when I am tired, stressed, or not feeling well. I am T-4/ T-9 and early on, I didn't sweat in that range or below. That's pretty normal for paralysis. That is why it is so dangerous for para's and quad's to be out in the heat. We can't turn on the bodies air conditioner.(Sweat) That might explain the (greasy sensation) around the affected areas. I don't remember ever having that sensation. I do remember as my feeling was coming back I itched horribly. A nurse pored corn flower on me and that seemed to help? Anyhow, that's my two cents. Hope everyone has a beautiful day! Happy Spring! Hello out there, Just had a question to ask. My first neuro was 77 years old. He talked about a grease line on my body. As the numbness crept up my body I could feel the line around me, but he never explained it to me. Anybody out there know anything about this? It took weeks before I got to my worst and never had any medication or IV therapy. Linda in Pa **Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home. Rats! I accidentally hit 'send' before I was done with my message! I'll try again - - - Dear pHran3que (with a silent 3), If you really want to know, the pH of alcohol is reported to be 5.5. Hopefully that will work well with your setting reset box that you have plugged into your systems preference interface. For the rest of us, though it might not be so good. I also wanted to ask why you haven't asked your friends in Belgium, if they can do all that, why they can't do something to maybe dissolve the troublesome lesions, thereby causing the spinal cord to return to normal? Let us know. And do you think our insurance will cover the cost? Sally (who enjoys your humor to keep her from taking herself too seriously)

" Upper body exercise helps. The most common location for Osteoporosis is in the upper spine- not anywhere near your legs.' sAYS fRANK Even though you are a physician, Frank, I must disagree with you at this time. Traditionally the most common location for osteoporosis is in the upper spine...no where near your legs. However, In patients, like me, who do not weight bear on my legs at all, the risk for brittle bones is much higher than for those people that stand, I still recommend that each one of you see your doctor or physiologist and speak to them about it. Do some research on the subject too, like I am going to do. Take good care, everyone. I have missed you immensly and am looking at going back into a nursing home for the duration of my time...8 wks. This time I will take my laptop and tv to entertain myself with. I love you all, Jude

Hi Gary, Again, welcome to the TM Family. This is a great place to be. You will find some very kind and supportive people here. And we also have pretty good senses of humor! I don't know much about the pain stimulators, but since you have such unbearable pain, can't you leave it on 24 hours a day? Or if you can't, can you at least take some really good "drug cocktail" during the times you can't use the stimulators? I hope you have a good neurologist. There just is no reason to have to live with that kind of pain. And remember to ask your doctor about the new drug LYRICA we talked about. Please let us know how you are doing. We'll be looking forward to better days for you! Take care Linda in Bothell, WA (near Seattle)

Linda. The stimulator works real well when i have turned it on, but when i turn it off it hurts unbearably. I've learned to live with the pain. I am also on other meds at high doses. Where are you from.

Sally & Jude - I have sat here and pondered what both of you so graciously wrote regarding being the caregiver and then the other side - having TM and "losing" friends and loved ones. And boy this is a hard one. I think first of all, Sally, it sounds to me like you've got a pretty good handle on being a great caregiver and you are to be praised for that. I think there are probably quite a few TMers who are fortunate to have someone like you. However, on the flip side (and I am a TMer) there are those who are not as fortunate. Many of the points you mentioned are definitely food for thought - and I had not thought of some of them before. So like Jude said, you gave us some new perspectives - thank you. And Jude - I do understand where you are coming from. Do you have someone who lives with you now - or are you able to do for yourself pretty well? Support is so very important when a person has TM (or any other illness). I have heard this over and over again, most of us don't say much of anything about our illness, in fact we try to "hide" how we feel - I'll stand right up here - GUILTY! We don't want to burden anyone with our illness - they have busy lives - most of the time in a much different way than we do. I actually have more to say, but am going to leave it at that. Bless all caregivers and TMers Linda in Bothell, WA

Not sure if that helps or just makes you angry! (It’s just how I see it from my perspective) Regards Sally in the UK! Hi Sally, There is nothing that well versed, from the heart information that would make me angry. I asked the question in the first place and my heart is breaking for an answer that I can understand and give credence to. I have lost both of my parents and both siblings leaving me the last person in my immediate family. All I have are my nieces and nephew and their families. We had been very close until I became paraplegic. I know that if this disease had taken one of them I would never have left them to their own devices. I have taken under consideration all of the excuses people have offered and that I can think of, but none seems like it is good enough to warrant desertion of a loved one. Thank you so much for sending me some thoughts to ponder. I feel that you, as a caretaker, have a unique viewpoint to consider. Best of everything to you and your family. Peace, Jude

In a message dated 10/1/2005 9:21:02 A.M. Eastern Standard Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: lol, unfortunately I don't have many of those left since I got sick. I am feeling better lately though. Stacy Isn't is strange how we lose friends and family members with the onset and aftermath of TM? I wonder if the same thing happens with other chronic illnesses...it must. I know that I am not the same person to be with, but I surely do try. I used to be real out-going and always had the ability to make people laugh. TM has stripped me of the personality that I had before, but I still like to laugh even though it is physically difficult for me to do so. I miss the way I used to clown around, but being in constant pain will rob a person of traits like that. However, even though my former friends and even family members, who used to claim to love me, don't seem, in my humble opinion, to recall the laughter we used to share (along with the tears and experiences). It would be nice if they would take a chance on who we are now; they might be pleasantly surprised.. I make a point of not talking about my illness unless they ask, so I am not boring in that way; I smile a lot and listen intently and genuinely take an interest in the things going on in their lives, so what is the problem??? I cannot figure it out. Can you? "God Bless Us, Everyone" Jude
