Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] How to queue a next album/playlist on touch without losing current
I had been having trouble with adding an album to the end of the current playlist on the Touch. I'd press and hold the album name to get the menu of choices. When I pressed "Add to End" the menu would disappear without adding the album. I'd about given up and instead used the + key on the IR remote or the web interface (if running from my computer). I finally figured out that a brief tap on "Add to End" is what's needed. The Western Digital "My Passport" drives came with two partitions the last time I looked. There's a procedure to make the "CD" software partition invisible I think. I've noticed this behavior in the last several weekd, possibly starting after the last upgrade of SBS on the computer. I had the Touch for months now, and I still have trouble with adding Albums or individual tracks. I'll have to read the Feature Guide. Hmmm... It seems you CAN'T add a single track. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 24/192
Thanks, Phil. I downloaded Audacity. I looked at some spectra from the two HD Tracks selections I've purchased. Selection #1 (24/96) clearly has content out to better than 30KHz. Selection #2 appears to roll off sharply at 19KHz ending at 21-22KHz, and looks very much like the CD version's spectrum. I was hoping that #2, an SACD transfer, would be a "real" 24/88.2 file. Maybe it's 24, but at least so far as I can tell, it's just upsampled 44.1. I'd like to thank Mortslim for his research in this matter. I wish the CSO Resound production team directly produced the tracks and artwork / liner notes. The idea of scanning & ripping the physical CD and SACD products seems rather tacky. Haven't done more listening yet, but... I noticed that the liner notes provided with the 24/88.2 HDtracks download of the CSO/Haitink Bruckner #7 showed two catalog numbers. CSOR 901 704 and CSOR 901 706. Its scan of the jewel case insert shows CSOR 901 704. I stopped by the CSO's (reduced size) Store last night to see if this was the CD or the SACD. It was the CD. As HDtracks also offers the 16/44.1 standard CD download, I suppose they simply used one scan for both versions. Since the liner notes PDF file name ends in "9017046" this seems likely. This is indeed the heart of the matter. But it's not easy to conduct a reliable test, especially single-handedly. In addition to the CD and the 24/88.2 download, I've also made three sets of digital files from the CD: WAV w/o compression, 320Kbps MP3 and 160Kbps MP3. [SlimDevices: Touch] Loss of clock - standalone, no internet
My SB Touch arrived at the office yesterday. It fired up nicely with a wired connection to my router and downloaded the current firmware. I inserted an 8GB SDHC card with music content. Worked very nicely. Then I removed the ethernet connection and ran it standalone with an analog connection to my office mini-system. I liked the nice digital clock in "off" mode. It was automatically set to the right time! I pulled the SD card to see what new cache files had been created. Then put the SD card back. I unplugged the Touch and brought it to my apartment, where I have no internet service (apart from possibly sponging from a neighbor's wireless network). Surprisingly, it took a little fooling around to get the Touch going. But there's no more digital clock. I tried selecting the various clock "screen-savers" for the "stopped" or "off" cases. No joy. Sometime a "sample" clock would come up, but not showing the correct time or date. Very curious. Bruce, Thanks for joining this forum and explaining the process that you use. As mentioned several pages back, I subscribe to the Chicago Symphony and am interested in the CSO Resound recordings available from HD Tracks. I bought a few tracks for testing / comparison to CD. I've not yet done the comparison due to lack of suitable hardware. I expect to do the comparison with the new Squeezebox Touch in the near future. -- R Johnson R Johnson's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36462 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74688 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Here's my understanding (which may or may not be correct): HDtracks is selling 24/88.2 downloads and is licensed to do so by the CSO. It seems HDtracks hires Puget Sound Studios (PSS) to convert from SACD to PCM. PSS takes a CSO Resound SACD and runs its DSD output through the EMM gear to produce PCM. If mortslim is correct, the EMM output is limited to 44.1 KHz (though perhaps it is at 24 bits). Then the PCM is upsampled to 88.2 KHz. -- R Johnson R Johnson's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36462 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74688 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

As a Chicago Symphony subscriber, I'm particularly interested in their new recordings from concert performances as issued on the "CSO Resound" label. These are available on SACD, CD and downloads. I've downloaded one disc in 24/88.2 but haven't yet had the playback equipment to compare it to the CD. This is one of the reasons I'm interested in the Touch. Phil, thanks for confirmation that the Touch does 24/88.2. -- R Johnson R Johnson's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36462 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74688 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 24/192
I'm not really interested in 24/192, but I am interested in 24/88.2 - where 88.2 is twice the 44.1 CD standard. Quite a few classical downloads are available in 24/88.2 format. The Touch specs say "Supports sampling rates up to 24 bit / 96 kHz". I have seen specs for some devices which will do 96KHz, but NOT 88.2KHz Does the Touch support 24/88.2? -- R Johnson R Johnson's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36462 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74688 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

NTFS would be nice, but I don't have a problem with needing to buy an extra portable drive, assuming they still come with FAT32 formatting. I have three Western Digital "My Passport" drives. The new models come with two partitions - the main one, plus a tiny one that "emulates" a CD which is where their backup and other utility software is placed. Would the Touch be able to deal with such a drive? -- R Johnson R Johnson's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36462 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73231 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

JJZolx;516260 Wrote: > It should. Being part of the beta testing, though, it's sometimes > surprising to see how simple things like this fall through the cracks > ... Thanks for the reply! I've been using the WDTV media player in standalone mode quite successfully for HD video playback to my projector. (The newer WDTV Live model added network capability.) The WDTV will play music quite nicely (though undoubtedly not at audiophile quality). However, I don't want to fire up a projector (or even a TV) just to choose the music. Hence, the SB Touch looks (looked?) like the perfect device for me. Plug the Touch analog outputs into my AVR, and plug a USB drive into the Touch. (I'd need to buy another drive for music files since my current drives are NTFS for large HD video files.) There seems to have been no work on 15192 since mid December. I'll be very disappointed if it turns out that the Touch will not operate in standalone mode. -- R Johnson R Johnson's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36462 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73231 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Unofficial official Release Date
I've been reading these discussions for a while. One of the items in the buglist caught my attention: 15192 - "Unable to use Touch as a standalone music player without network". That's exactly what I'd like to do -- connect a USB hard drive (loaded with content at another location) to a SB Touch, and then connect the Touch to my AVR, using the Touch's screen to select the music. Apart from needing a network connection for initial (or later) firmware update, can/will the Touch operate that way? Or will I need to look elsewhere? -- R Johnson R Johnson's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36462 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73231 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
