The sharp contrast on the metal makes it a bit hard to read and it is not that pronounced on reference images I just googled. Please try a wooden handle ;) On system-file-manager, the labels are not clear. Can easily be seen as filled rectangles in a white area instead of an empty frame. Maybe turn this into full, white labels? It could be of benefit to move the labels over to the left, to leave more air for the handles. gnome-screenshot: A dark grey or even black frame for the display would help to make the polaroid stand out. One window on the screens should suffice and help with the smaller sizes. For 16px, you might want to go with just the polaroid. You have really outdone yourself on these icons. The only one I still don't fully agree with would have to be the applications-office icon. As previously said, the thought that comes to mind is: ipod, and I think that will the the same thought of many of ubuntu users. I was thinking, perhaps a man (somthing like: http://www.myneth.com/assets/imgs/manOutline.gif ) with a bright colored tie. But the three new icons are absolutely killer. Hi Al Yes i did read it, but my brain must have misted up at that point and blanked the sexual orientation of the teacher thereby assuming it was a male. l did think about saying he/she but i didn't. Anyway at the end of the day She is supposed to be a teacher thereby giving the students an opportunity try out the different OS system. it could the Syllabus requires the students to use Window OS only and nothing else.bit of lame thought there. I was running compiz for a while but it seems running this breaks menus in open office and a few other apps, so if after installing and getting it working, you don't have any menu text or dialog box text in Openoffice you have a clue to the cause, Apart from that, compiz is really impresive, i can still enable with system, preferences - appearance - then visual effects tab, Clicking none fixes the above problem until a patch or fix is released. But I think I might have partly discovered the issue, which is completely different :S. When I set up my pc, I only set aside 15gb for the main (not /home) partition. ...That's full. *embarrassed* hehe damn. I discovered that after looking in the xorg.conf and running the reconfigure command, which threw 'Device full' at me. I checked, and so it was. So it would possibly appear that even if I did try to update, I can't :/. Is it possible to safely resize the partitions? Microsofts speech engines in Ubuntu
Hi All Just checking in again to give a small progress report and let you know what is going on or not as the case might be. I have managed to get the whole system working, identify the bugs in wine and have workable solutions. At the moment the command line interface is about 50% done the server is about 25% finished. The text to speech engines can now be installed without user interaction. I have not started on speech dispatcher driver yet and any people that can lend a hand would be great. I want to get the server client working first them integrate it into SD. Anyone interested in testing the first few releases of the system would be very welcome. If you are interested in doing some testing then get in contact and i will put together an installer and test programs. I have now written a bash script which will automatically modify the Vibuntu 1.2 iso image so that it can be used by the default Ubuntu USB Installer application. In order for it to work you must make sure that the Vibuntu 1.2 Custom_Live_CD.iso and the hidden .disk folder from the original Ubuntu 8.10 CD are in the /home/orca assuming you are working from a Vibuntu 1.2 install. If not you need to change the /home/orca path in the script to whatever your home directory is called. To run it copy the script into your home folder, make it executable and then open a terminal and type sudo ./vibuntu-usb-install. When the script has finished you will have a new iso called Custom_Live_USB.iso in your home directory. You can then point the Ubuntu USB installer to this image to create a bootable USB version of Vibuntu with persistent storage. If you'd rather you can open the script and type each line into a terminal manually, this might be a useful learning exercise if you are new to the terminal and bash scripting. So the only app. I haven't tried is VLC. Any help and/or ideas? I have recently found that when I open alsamixer with the command: alsamixer -Dhw I can adjust the sound levels of wave center, wave LFE, wave surround and can get 5.1 sound when using alsa driver with applications. I tested it with Hydrogen and Jack and also with mplayer. After the upgrade of pulseaudio packages which I did it today, VLC player also crashes with an error, indicating CPU usage: Soft CPU time limit exhausted, terminating. VLC uses alsa, so I think when I use alsa driver with the applications, pulseaudio crashes with high CPU usage. Any others experiencing this problem? So inside intrepid environment I can change between original 2.6.27-10 generic and the obsolete, but working 2.6.24-23-rt kernel for audio production. Estranho, os torrents que eu baixo estão sempre em .AVI.
Eu só acho .rmvb nos sites de download (megauploads e associados).
Mas já tive essa experiencia de converter .rmvb em .avi e posso dizer
que foi péssima, os seriado era cavaleiros do zodiaco, sem sarros, ok
?
Minha TV é 37 LCD e o dvd faz upscaling, tem USB e assisto no formato
xvid/mp3 e tudo que eu assisto alí fica maravilhosamente exibido.
Mas com RMVB convertidos, nossa eu via jogos de ATARI e não desenhos
animados tão ruim que era pixelação que explodia com o upscaling.
Certamente, o mplayer (usando driver GL2) fazia algum tipo de
compensação ao exibir rmvb que tornava mais agradável assistir no
computador (mesmo assim não era lá essas coisas), porque na TV de
sala, como eu disse, era algo horrivel.
Atualmente, ao buscar videos e encontra-los nesse formato, eu os ignoro.
Se não da para assistir na TV de sala, nem vale a pena.

Minha filha ainda retrucou querendo voltar a usar alguns jogos que ela gosta. Pedi um tempo para ela e instalei tudo via Wine. A paz reina no lar deste que vos tecla. Bom saber, boa sorte cara! Agora tenho mais uma questão aos colegas: instalei um segundo HD no micro (o primeiro é de 40 GB - 5 para aquilo e 32 para o Ubuntu), de 120 GB, mas ele não está sendo reconhecido pelo Ubuntu. Tenho que formatá-lo? Quais os procedimentos? Novamente agradeço com antecipação ao apoio dos colegas. Neto, um segundo HD no linux não funciona como no windows, ele não gera um D:, ele vai aparecer em algum diretório dentro do /. Sugiro que você instale o gparted e o disk-manager com o comando sudo aptitude install gparted disk-manager São dois aplicativos gráficos que te ajudarão a configurar teu HD. O gparted serve para formatar, e ele aparece como Editor de Partições no menu (Sistema Administração). Ele vai mostrar os teus dois HDs, tenha certeza que vai selecionar o HD correto para formatar. O disk-manager aparece no menu como Gerenciador de Disco. Ele permite que vocẽ edite as partições que criar no gparted. Como sugestão extra, digo que você deve configurar o ponto de montagem do seu HD novo para que ele seja o /home, assim você evitará maiores problemas. Isso foi discutido há alguns dias aqui na lista, dê uma procurada que você encontra um ótimo tutorial. [Ubuntu-BR] Enconding diferente no Terminal, gnome-terminal e konsole
Oi pessoal, Estou tentando executar aplicações via ssh, que usam o enconding ibm850. Consigo normalmente pelo konsole, selecionando este encoding por um desses caminhos: - Settings-Edit current Profile - advanced-Encoding- Default character encoding: ibm850 OU - View- character encoding -Western European - ibm850 ...e configurando a variável de ambiente TERM=linux. No entanto não consigo fazer o mesmo via terminal linux comum ou gnome-terminal. No gnome-terminal fiz os seguintes procedimentos: - adicionei pt_BR.IBM850 IBM850 ao arquivo /var/lib/locales/supported.d/pt - atualizei a lista de locales: dpkg-reconfigure locales - e chamei o gnome-terminal assim: env LANG=pt_BR.IBM850 gnome-terminal --disable-factory --geometry 80x25 - além, de export TERM=linux Aparentemente tudo certo com os acentos funcionando, mas quando vou entrar com texto, reparei que as teclas ainda estão desconfiguradas para o encoding. Além disso, uma sujeira mostrando coordenadas no estilo [0;850] [11;54], teima em aparecer na tela. Agradeço muito qualquer ajuda... Olá André, Sim, é possível configurar o squid para usar autenticação de um servidor Windows com Active Directory, não sei se existe um bom tutorial para lhe indicar, mas se procurar no google por squid autenticando no Active Directory encontrará muitos de como fazer, é uma implementação razoavelmente simples de se efetuar. Com o squid funcionando desta forma, é possível efetuar configurações com base nos usuários e grupos existentes no Active Directory, o que acho mais interessante neste tipo de implementação, é que, uma vez que usuário logou no domínio, não é solicitado usuário e senha para o usuário, porém, o acesso é autenticado, isso ocorre por se utilizar o ticket kerberos, acho muito bom o funcionamento desta forma. Referente a relatórios de acesso, existe o sarg, acho que a grande maioria das pessoas usa o sarg, apesar de existirem outros, ele é de fácil implementação e configuração. Qualquer dúvida é só falar. Lembre-se que você não está mais no windows, esse diretório não acumula arquivos indefinidamente. E também há arquivos lá que você não poderá apagar, pois são de usuários do sistema. Seguinte, eu trabalho com programação (ObjectPascal, SQL e etc.), eu conhecia o Linux só de _vista_ (galera, só de olho, num vão confundir com uma coisa pesadíssima aí que chamam de SO), e um _Anjo_ deu uma explanação legal sobre trabalhar com Ubuntu, eu até me pergunto: ... Meu Deus, pq não comecei a usar o Linux antes?, e vi que o Linux é realmente um SO, no ʁuindow$™©®® eu usava o Delphi, e ele gera inúmeros arquivos após uma compilação (mesmo com algumas opções em Environment desmarcadas), para 'limpar' esses arquivos eu criei um arquivo em lotes (clean.bat), com o seguinte código: del *.~*;*.obj;*.hpp;*.ddp;*.dsk;*.dsm;*.opt;*.dcu del __history\*.*? /s rd __history Hoje trabalho com Ubuntu 8.10 - Desktop + Lazarus + Oracle + MySQL + Firebird + RapidSVN entre outros, estou tendo dificuldades com algumas diferenças do ambiente, mas, estou muito satisfeito e sendo muito bem assistido (olhe um exemplo aqui!). Eu até poderia usar a opção que você me indicou, só que 100% dos arquivos que distribuo são open source, e os desenvolvedores não irão se preocupar com isso, mas, sem problemas, se não for possível simular um *.bat com um *.sh (eu já me ferrei uma vez com um BAT, se fosse no Linux isso não teria contecido! :) ), crio um binário clean no Lazarus, para _apagar_ os arquivos *.bak, *.pp e etc. Mesmo assim, valeu pela força! :) P.S.: Tem nego que paga e caro por um _SO_ e não tem uma assistência merecida, fazer o que? Olá colegas! Desde alguns dias meu note está com um problema no Alsa. Quando nas preferências de som está selecionado o Alsa ou o Pulseaudio, só saem chiados das caixas de som embutidas ou dos fones de ouvido. Selecionando o OSS, funciona normal. Quer dizer, se apenas um aplicativo ter direito de usar o áudio for normal. Mas pensei aqui em algo que pode facilitar para você. Crie um diretório bin dentro do seu diretório padrão. No meu caso seria o /home/xisberto/bin Salve seu script dentro dele e dê opção de execução para ele. Pronto! Agora você chama seu script de qualquer lugar, apenas digitando o nome dele. Isso porque o diretório ~/bin está no seu $PATH (execute echo $PTAH num terminal após criar o diretório bin e veja que ele aparece lá). Então, para executar o seu script, abra um terminal e digite apenas o nome do script (se vc colocou .sh no nome, coloque também na hora de executar, e você pode usar o TAB para completar o nome). Alternativamente, você pode usar o Alt+F2 em vez de abrir um terminal. P.S.: Tem nego que paga e caro por um _SO_ e não tem uma assistência merecida, fazer o que? Migrar pro Linux :D! Uma coisa legal que tenho feito utimamente é utilizar o Delicious ( http://delicious.com/) que tem uma extensão para o firefox e é super bacana. Adicionar um site é rápido e organizalo também. Lembrei desta thread, e que tinha resolvido o problema de um forma um pouco melhor. Então resolvi postar o que fiz aqui: alias rm=mv --backup=numbered -t /tmp 2008/8/31 Onilton Maciel oniltonmac...@gmail.com Fábio, eu tenho backups sim, mas eu perdi o trabalho de uma semana, e nessa semana em especial eu fiz muita coisa, o que foi o pior. Na verdade fico surpreso pelo fato de o ubuntu não adotar o rm -i como padrão, acho que seria bem mais interessante. De qualquer forma a idéia que eu tive sobre o mv era para ser algo diferente. Na verdade é só para te dar um tempo, geralmente quando você deleta algo importante, logo depois que você termina o rm, você percebe a besteira que fez instantaneamente ou mesmo segundos depois. Talvez um intervalo de 1 ou 2 minutos poderia fazer toda a diferença nesses casos infelizes e não sei se iria atrapalhar tanto, para maioria dos usuários, esse delayzinho entre o comando e a deleção real. Bem, isso eu falei numa das primeiras respostas, é na configuração do nautilus. Mas vai ser aplicado a todos os scripts que o teu usuário der clique-duplo: não é algo específico do teu script, e sim do nautilus. Outra pessoa vai ver ele exatamente do jeito que está agora, e quem usa o KDE vai ver ainda mais diferente. Você pode também criar um lançador (arquivo .desktop, que tem uma sintaxe bem específica), que funciona na área de trabalho e no painel. Ele não vai executar em um diretório específico, mas você pode usar dentro do script o comando zenity com a opção --file-selection (experimente zenity --help-file-selection no terminal) para escolher o diretório. Olá pessoas! Em primeiro lugar quero agradecer aos colegas da lista pelo apoio com informações e moral com relação ao acesso, via Ubuntu, ao site da empresa de cosméticos Natura, da qual minha esposa é consultora. O pior é que a galera começa a viajar na maionese e inventa umas dicas malucas... De acordo com a tela que você mandou, o problema não é no seu script, pois o seu script do jeito que está não chama nenhuma interface gráfica. Essa tela é própria do Nautilus, o navegador de arquivos. Sempre que ele vê um arquivo texto com permissão de execução, ele sabe que você pode querer editar o arquivo ou executá-lo como um script, então ele sempre pergunta. Para mudar este comportamento, vá em Editar Preferências (a partir de qualquer pasta), e na aba Comportamento tem a opção Arquivos de texto executáveis. Selecione a opção que te agrada. Mas lembre-se de que esta ação afetará TODOS os arquivos de texto que tiverem opção de execução. Para editá-los, você vai ter que usar o botão direito e usar uma das opções do Abrir com. E novamente eu pergunto: você tem alguma necessidade REAL de apagar estes arquivos? Lembre-se que você não está mais no windows, esse diretório não acumula arquivos indefinidamente. Bom dia a todos! Tenho o Ubuntu Hardy funcionando em meu notebook Compaq Presario v6210br, perfeitamente, sem nada a desejar. Nadinha mesmo. Drivers de tudo, placa de rede wireless (via ndiswrapper), leds do teclado, etc etc, tudo funciona redondo. Entretanto, esse Notebook tem processador AMD 64 bits, mas meu Ubuntu é 32 bits. Gostaria de tentar fazer um upgrade (ou formatar e instalar) para 64 bits, mas não gostaria de perder todo esse tempo para depois descobrir que alguns dos pacotes que tenho instalado via aptitude, em i386 atualmente, não possuem equivalente para amd64. Assim sendo, gostaria de saber se há um comando que possa varrer minha lista de pacotes instalados e procurar se tem equivalentes amd64. Mais especificamente, gostaria mesmo de saber quais pacotes dentre os instalados NÃO têm equivalentes para amd64, para estimar se a perda é contornável, ou impeditiva. Não precisam me dar tudo de mão-beijada. Se não houver tal comando (e imagino que não tenha mesmo), basta me explicarem como o apt se conecta aos repositórios enumerados no sources.list e como ele pesquisa no repositório apenas os pacotes apropriados para minha distribuição (hardy i386). Eu nunca tentei, mas provavelmente funciona... Use o synaptic para salvar a lista dos pacotes instalados, salve-o num pendrive. Boot pelo LiveCD 64bits e tente importar a lista que está no pendrive usando o próprio synaptic, ele exibirá os pacotes não encontrados. As vezes, o pacote existe, no entanto, a semantica do nome foi alterado. Doravante, pode ser que sua lista atual tiver coisas instaladas em outros repositórios ou manualmente ele também não conseguirá encontrar ou pior simplesmente quebrar os pacotes. Isso é só uma simulação, porque de fato, não vai dar para instalar nada num livecd. Tenho usado AMD64 e não tenho tido falta de nada por enquanto. Ainda diria que se voce tem menos de 4G de RAM, que é duvidoso voce fazer essa mudança porque será trocar 6 por meia-duzia e ter um consumo maior de RAM. Opcionalmente, me ocorreu agora que eu talvez possa instalar o Ubuntu 64 em uma VM no meu Note... se funcionar, instalo no HD. Mas você levantou uma outra questão que eu não estava considerando: Ainda diria que se voce tem menos de 4G de RAM, que é duvidoso voce fazer essa mudança porque será trocar 6 por meia-duzia e ter um consumo maior de RAM. Por que, exatamente? De fato, meu Note tem 2GB e desempenha todas as funções (Desenvolvimento de software em Java e jogar Counter-Strike via wine) de maneira satisfatória. Tendo um processador 64 bits (AMD Semprom 3500+), tenho a impressão de estar perdendo algo com uma distribuição 32 bits instalada. Procurei esse tipo de informação, análises comparativas entre linux 32 x linux 64, mas não encontrei nada muito esclarecedor... Gostaria de tentar fazer um upgrade (ou formatar e instalar) para 64 bits, mas não gostaria de perder todo esse tempo para depois descobrir que alguns dos pacotes que tenho instalado via aptitude, em i386 atualmente, não possuem equivalente para amd64. Assim sendo, gostaria de saber se há um comando que possa varrer minha lista de pacotes instalados e procurar se tem equivalentes amd64. Mais especificamente, gostaria mesmo de saber quais pacotes dentre os instalados NÃO têm equivalentes para amd64, para estimar se a perda é contornável, ou impeditiva. Não precisam me dar tudo de mão-beijada. Se não houver tal comando (e imagino que não tenha mesmo), basta me explicarem como o apt se conecta aos repositórios enumerados no sources.list e como ele pesquisa no repositório apenas os pacotes apropriados para minha distribuição (hardy i386). Com isto, creio que eu já consiga desenvolver um script que varra minha lista de pacotes instalados, se conecte ao repositório e pesquise se tem equivalentes em amd64... Muito obrigado pela ajuda! Eu já usei ambas, eu como desktop não há muita diferença na performance. Com endereçamentos de 64bits, a escala de consumo de RAM aumenta porque um numero inteiro em 64bits é simplesmente maior. Com 2GB de RAM, não fará diferença na minha opnião. Em casa, eu uso 64bits com 1G e ainda sobra RAM, na média uso uns 890M de RAM. Se me faltasse RAM, com certeza pularia para o 32bits. Mas em casa não uso eclipse, java jdk, apache,... é bem desktop mesmo, por isso não tenho falta, só instalei 64bits para terminar o desenvolvimento do meu script, e estou com preguiça de voltar 32bits. Mas com voce pode ser diferente... Se usar o meu script, o ambiente 64bits ou 32bits, fica tudo igual. Experimenta e tire suas próprias conclusões. Salvo se eu estiver errado, se seu host for 32bits, voce não consegue criar uma Virtual Machine de 64bits. Mas pelos programas que voce descreveu, não há empecilhos de usar 64bits. Use o synaptic para salvar a lista dos pacotes instalados, salve-o num pendrive. Boot pelo LiveCD 64bits e tente importar a lista que está no pendrive usando o próprio synaptic, ele exibirá os pacotes não encontrados. As vezes, o pacote existe, no entanto, a semantica do nome foi alterado. Doravante, pode ser que sua lista atual tiver coisas instaladas em outros repositórios ou manualmente ele também não conseguirá encontrar ou pior simplesmente quebrar os pacotes. Isso é só uma simulação, porque de fato, não vai dar para instalar nada num livecd. Tenho usado AMD64 e não tenho tido falta de nada por enquanto. Vocês costumam reportar/procurar estes bugs no https://launchpad.net/, são os típicos bugs que o pessoal do ubuntu quer saber. Só que é claro mais informações devem ser passadas, como sua placa de som, o modulo usado, quando parou de funcionar, possível workaround (no seu caso, usar OSS). Gostaria de tentar fazer um upgrade (ou formatar e instalar) para 64 bits, mas não gostaria de perder todo esse tempo para depois descobrir que alguns dos pacotes que tenho instalado via aptitude, em i386 atualmente, não possuem equivalente para amd64. Assim sendo, gostaria de saber se há um comando que possa varrer minha lista de pacotes instalados e procurar se tem equivalentes amd64. Mais especificamente, gostaria mesmo de saber quais pacotes dentre os instalados NÃO têm equivalentes para amd64, para estimar se a perda é contornável, ou impeditiva. Não precisam me dar tudo de mão-beijada. Se não houver tal comando (e imagino que não tenha mesmo), basta me explicarem como o apt se conecta aos repositórios enumerados no sources.list e como ele pesquisa no repositório apenas os pacotes apropriados para minha distribuição (hardy i386). Com isto, creio que eu já consiga desenvolver um script que varra minha lista de pacotes instalados, se conecte ao repositório e pesquise se tem equivalentes em amd64... Muito obrigado pela ajuda! Use o synaptic para salvar a lista dos pacotes instalados, salve-o num pendrive. Boot pelo LiveCD 64bits e tente importar a lista que está no pendrive usando o próprio synaptic, ele exibirá os pacotes não encontrados. As vezes, o pacote existe, no entanto, a semantica do nome foi alterado. Doravante, pode ser que sua lista atual tiver coisas instaladas em outros repositórios ou manualmente ele também não conseguirá encontrar ou pior simplesmente quebrar os pacotes. Isso é só uma simulação, porque de fato, não vai dar para instalar nada num livecd. Tenho usado AMD64 e não tenho tido falta de nada por enquanto. Ta certinho Iuri. A minha placa de som é onboard minha placa mãe é a Intel DP35DP, tenho uma offboard que mesmo com OSS não sai som algum. Se for toda vez que for inicializar no Ubuntu pode fazer da forma sugerida pelo amigo rc5.d, pode colocar em rc.local ou pode colocar no anacron/cron (são aplicações diferentes). Abraços. Resumindo, excluir uma lista de arquivos via shell script sem ser pelo terminal e tb sem uma confirmação, arquivos estes gerados por alguns compiladores (*.dcu, *.pp, *.o, *.~*, *.bak e etc.) :) . Santos, Ednilton Essa é a idéia, mas veja bem que muitas aplicações simplesmente não funcionam porque o programador utiliza o fato de um inteiro ter 32bits em alguma aritmética, que com 64 bits passa a não mais funcionar. Agora essa aritmética pode estar embutida em uma biblioteca. Então se tem que compilar tudo, desde o libc até as bibliotecas gráficas e tudo o mais para funcionar. André Cavalcante Porto Alegre, RS. Te dou uma sugestão. Instala o nautilus-script, e coloca o teu script na pasta ~/.gnome2/nautilus-scripts. Depois na janela do diretório, você escolhe com o botão direito do mouse, depois scripts e depois o teu script. Não é duplo clique mas acho que vai servir. Olha só o help da pasta de scripts: All executable files in this folder will appear in the Scripts menu. Choosing a script from the menu will run that script. When executed from a local folder, scripts will be passed the selected file names. When executed from a remote folder (e.g. a folder showing web or ftp content), scripts will be passed no parameters. A idéia é colocar o clean no /home/xxx/bin, e dentro do clean chamar o zenity mais ou menos assim: dir=`zenity --file-selection --directory` cd $dir Entre dir, o = e o comando não pode ter espaço. Os sinais que certam o zenity são crazes (Shift + acento agudo). Desta forma, você deixa o clean em apenas um lugar, sem precisar copiá-lo sempre que começar outro projeto e toda vez que o executar ele vai perguntar que diretório precisa ser limpo. Ei, já ia enviar quando vi a idéia do André. Muito boa. Use a variável NAUTILUS_SCRIPT_CURRENT_URI que é o diretório atual. Só que eu quero que o _danado_ do clean.sh seja executado por um duplo clique do mouse sobre ele (exignte heim?, rsrsrs), daí o clean (agora sem o .sh :) ) exclui os files e fecha a janela com os botões Executar em terminal, Exibir, Cancelar e Executar automaticamente (ou quem sabe ela nem apareça :) ). Bem, isso eu falei numa das primeiras respostas, é na configuração do nautilus. Mas vai ser aplicado a todos os scripts que o teu usuário der clique-duplo: não é algo específico do teu script, e sim do nautilus. Outra pessoa vai ver ele exatamente do jeito que está agora, e quem usa o KDE vai ver ainda mais diferente. Você pode também criar um lançador (arquivo .desktop, que tem uma sintaxe bem específica), que funciona na área de trabalho e no painel. The ls command in smbclient works just as expected against a Samba server. I suspect that the server's handling of the list command is broken, but I'd need a network trace of this. Ideally for a directory that contains multiple files with multiple suffixes, running ls, ls *.one of the suffixes ls filename.* and ls filename.suffix. However, this is a separate issue as well, so how about you open a new bug report for this? Feel free to subscribe me to that. Could someone that can reproduce it post the ERRHRD - 39 error as a separate bug ? I don't feel like posting a bug that I can 't even reproduce myself... Note that the two bugs are very linked, since you can't see the second one before the first one is fixed (and they should be fixed in the same update). Even if this is probably caused by poor server-side implementation, I'd still consider it a regression in Samba client since reading and writing were successful on previous versions of smbclient... I'm less convinced by the ls *.txt issue which sounds very server- related... but please also post it as a separate bug if you want further investigation on it. Once winbind is removed you should not get the idmap errors in your logs anymore. Those were related to a half-configured winbind server on your Ubuntu client. However your problem is not solved yet, we just removed noise. What command or action are you doing to access your Samba share ? Are you using nautilus ? Using a cifs/smbfs mount command or /etc/fstab ? Using smbclient ? How does it crash ? Well, you'd probably see the ERRHRD - 39 bug if you try to put a file without doing an ls first, on a broken CIFS server. But anyway, separate report for this, please.
