Is there a list of recommended USB BT adapters? I'm having lots of troubles with the built-in RPi one. I checked the PCP docs but there isn't a list. A forum search turned up a Maxesla v4.0 adapter on Amazon but it's no longer available. Knowing the supported chipsets would help too. I know Realtek ones are not supported but I didn't quite understand the reason why. Nor do I understand how one would use the Realtek firmware posted recently or if it's going to cause problems. I am using Bluetooth in Player mode. Streaming audio works from all my devices, but volume control does not: I can control the volume when playing music from an Android phone, but when using a Mac as the source, the Mac's volume setting is ignored. I experimented a bit and found that this is because bluetoothd was started without the --plugin=a2dp flag. By default, it is started as /usr/local/lib/bluetooth/bluetoothd --experimental. When I kill it and restart it as /usr/local/lib/bluetooth/bluetoothd --experimental --plugin=a2dp, volume control works with all my devices. I cannot find the sources for this part of piCorePlayer anywhere, so I can't make a patch and I am not sure how to make my fix persistent. For now, I SSH in after every boot and restart bluetoothd with the correct flags. It would be nice if this fix would be upstreamed. Currently my phone is my gui which works like charm, but... I ordered a simple bt steering wheel controller (play/pause/skip/volume) and it appears as a bt-keyboard when pairing with my phone. Is it possible to connect it directly to my PiCoreplayer as a keyboard to control playback directly without having to pay my phone any attention? I could not find any discussion about this, if possible I appreciate any help. Hello, quick question. I am looking for a way to make my RPI3B+ a squeezelite, shaiport and bluetooth client (only) using piCorePlayer and headphones output (for now). Squeezelite and Shairport-sync are working like a charm (I have an other device in my network working as a LMS server and music database, and the iTunes from Windows device) but I am not sure how to set the built-in bluetooth receiver to play music from connected phone (using best possible codec) to the built-in headphones output. Hello, So goal is to be able to have my Teams audio playing on my speakers attached to my piCoreplayer. This part works. Is this the behavior I should be seeing? 1) After manually disconnecting bluetooth from Windows to piCoreplayer, top volume level from piCoreplayer is very low. Only rebooting piCoreplayer sets volume back to "normal" 2) If there is local playback on piCoreplayer, cannot connect bluetooth. Must stop local playback first. Example workflow 1) Manually connect from windows PC to piCoreplayer 2) Have teams meeting 3) When teams meeting is over and would like to start music playing on piCoreplayer Must disconnect manally, player controls does not let me start playing music until I manually disconnect. 4) After manually disconnecting, volume is very low. Thanks once more. The aim is to have a Raspberry Pi running piCorePlayer + Bluetooth + LMS with a small library picked for the occasion, everything on the SD card. And there is no network at all in the venues where the end-users will be meeting so the setup will be completely stand-alone, no screen or keyboard within typing distance! Over the last day or two I've done a whole heap more googling and think I'm almost certainly trying to use the wrong tool for my job. pCP and LMS have a network at their heart - a plug-and-play with no user controls does not. I've been using LMS in various ways for about 15 years, so it was my natural first choice. I have just tried my working setup in a place with no network. Plugging in the speaker produced no sound. Going back home, plugging in the speaker produced music as expected - the only difference was wifi being available vs not being available. And I think that confirms that I should be trying something different altogether. So I'm not going to try and take this any further and instead use a better tool for the job. And again, I really am grateful to you for having taken the time to help me this far. By no-network, do you mean that LMS installed on the same device that is getting the bluetooth connection. But the device itself is not connected to the network. Yes you can do it that way..There is still networking processes running on the local device. Create a simple script that waits for the specific player name to be recognized by LMS, then issue the play command. Today I powered up the Pi with a keyboard and monitor, to have a little
look at what lies inside piCore.
LMS was sending random tracks to the headphone socket, the only player
it had, as instructed in the tweak "Auto start LMS"
Later I turned on the speaker - instant pairing (Argh - tears hair!),
but no sound as LMS had nothing in its list for player SR06151. Log
below if it's not too long (or in the next post if it is) which I expect
will show everything normal.
Is there a way for me to send LMS a command "randomplay tracks on
SR06151", MAC:E0:B7:C5:5B:7C:90, with no network connection being
available? Either after pairing, or after a time delay long enough to
allow pairing to happen if it's going to?
[My goal is a stand-alone setup, in a place with no wifi, with the users
doing no more than plugging in the boxes.]
I should need a tweak like that only once - my final setup can just live
without updates for as long as it keeps on working.
And my fallback remains a cable from the headphone socket to the
speaker, just in case...

Its up to LMS to remember the playback modenothing I can do about that from the bluetooth side. Once the player connects, take a look a the lms interface and see what is in the playback queue. As for the logs, that all looks normal, you will notice in the second log that you are pressing the play/pause button on the speaker. That might be a bit too techy for me, but it's a possibility. I've got till mid-January to finish the job, and a wired connection remains the fall-back plan. I had one speaker device that would not try to connect when powered on.never could figure out why. None of my other headsets/speakers do that. Power off your speaker and reboot your pi, then ssh in run "bluetoothctl" type: paired-devices You should see a list of devices that are paired on your systemmake sure your speaker's mac address is shown. If it is not then there is something preventing the backup of the paired devices... type: info This should show settings for the paired device, I'm mainly interested to know what is in the "trust" field. I took the battery out of the other device - but it still shows up on a
scan, so something somewhere is storing its id ("Bluthing")!
No real difference in the behaviour of the speaker vs pCP Bluetooth.
Here's a summary, beginning with a working, playing speaker connected
over BT:
1. Speaker off, speaker back on - pairs and play resumes
2. Speaker off, reboot Pi - BT starts, speaker remembered as paired,
with a red X
3. As 2, then speaker on - no change, and no new entries in log
4. As 3, then click "connect". Red X changes to green tick, speaker does
not beep to announce pairing, nothing in log, no actual connection (I
refreshed the screen a few times during this, not sure at exactly what
point I saw the green tick)
5. Back to 2, click "forget", "scan" finds the speaker (and includes
Bluthing in the list in the pane at the top of the BT screen), offers
speaker for pairing, pair as usual and all works. (LMS has not
remembered the song mix that was playing, but that's not related to BT)
The goal for this little project is a plug-and-play-power-only setup for
a bunch of old ladies hosting a gathering. There won't be a network,
input device or display. None of them knows anything about IT stuff so I
think that goal is probably unachievable. If I come across a BT speaker
I can borrow, I'll check that out in case it works like my Sony
headphones (which simply work over BT). I can make a suitable system
with a plugged speaker so I'll see if they'll be happy with an extra
wire.

I've got pCP 8.0.0 running OK on a Pi 3B+. My BT speaker will pair with the Pi and LMS successfully plays on it. After the Pi has been powered off and started up again, turning on the speaker will not pick up where it left off - in fact it won't play anything at all until it's "forgotten" and re-paired. I've found a couple of similar questions earlier in this thread but the answers there didn't make any difference. I'm guessing the problem is the speaker's own software - I use headphones on a different Pi over BT and they simply resume when powered on. A technical question - is there any way of making the pairing happen without keyboard/screen intervention by a user (perhaps pressing a button to do the pairing)? [The goal is a "black box" that the users will simply plug in, then a minute or two later turn on the speaker, and the pre-loaded music will just happen. No network, or other wires except power on/off.] An alternative question - other people do have BT speakers that resume when powered up. Could anyone share what models they have so I can try a bit of shopping instead of technology? Hi, is there any step by step documentation for bluetooth setup in 8.X.0? I've just upgraded both my pcp players to 8.2.0 and can't get bluetooth audio playing at all, it was working fine in 7.0.0. I'm using iphone 7 and can pair it ok, it shows on the pcp page as being paired and set as player, but when I select it as output in spotify in my phone I'm getting nothing. This is on a rasp 3b+ with Ian Cananda dac. The dac controller screen shows "No input" and where the phono would usually show a little headphone icon when connected to bluetooth up in the top right corner there is nothing. Not really sure where to look to debug. No massive issue as 99% of my playing is via the web UI, but would just be nice to get it working again. Thanks. You can install 7, then upgrade LMS to the latest LMS. I don't have issues with my headphones, so I'm sure it's specific to the pi and the remote device used. Every pi seems to have a different implementation. My suspicion is that kernel changes affects every device differently, but I need to keep up with the kernels or when new hardware comes out, support is impossible. I've given up using the pcp Bluetooth feature in its present iteration (the previous version worked flawlessly) - too many lost and/or missing paired instances (apart from a permanent Samsung TV which I don't want! ). Well I've got Win11 to work on one PCP! But it was an arduous journey and I still can't get it to work on the other PCP. :-( To be fair I've had similar symptoms with Win10 but on a different laptop so I can't completely blame Win11. It's working on a rPi 4B and piCorePlayer v8.2.0 | www v00017 | linux 5.15.35-pcpCore-v7l (32) | piCore v13.2 | Squeezelite v1.9.9-1392-pCP. It's not working thus far on a 3B+ and the same PCP s/w. It seems that keeping PCP's "Discoverable" = Yes helps. Also the behaviour seems random after the Windows scans for BT devices and tries to pair. Sometimes it pairs and allows one to connect, other times Windows says after a delay that the other device "would like to pair to this Windows device"! Sometimes devices take ages to appear in the Windows BT scan list, sometimes not. Another gotcha was that the PCP "Paired Devices" entry somehow changed from Type = Player to Speaker. I think the symptom of this was that the PC's paired device connected and then disconnected immediately afterwards. I've no idea how that config change happpened but I certainly didn't change it. I've seen that twice now on different PCPs but can't reproduce it. Once I changed that back to Type = Player it remained connected. Another issue appears to be signal strength. Both laptops and PCPs seem to be quite different in this. I suspect my PCP's metal case doesn't exactly help in this regard. Tx, I've worked out some of what was going wrong. After I'd updated my second PCP and BT stopped working, I spotted there was a new status bullet "Bluealsa is running". Then I saw a new section with a "BT Output Device" setting which was blank. The possible values looked similar to the Squeezelite audio output setting but with ",DEV=0" tacked on the end, so I guessed at that. I looked at the Alsa Volume setting which recommended to check alsamixer. I found that under under Squeezelite but could not make head nor tail of the settings so i've ignored it for now. But the BT output now works! :-) Checking the the first PCP, it didn't have the Bluealsa bullet despite my verifying that no BT updates were available. After multiple browser refreshes by chance I spotted that PCP was on 8.1.0 when the second was on 8.2.0. So I upgraded PCP in-situ and then the four BT bullets were present. I set the BT output setting and that works too! Phew! :-) Maybe the BT update checker (which also seems to take well over a minute each time) could check the PCP version too, if that's a known compatibility issue? I suspect Windows 11 is going to be a problem, I don't have any Windows 11 machines, and I don't plan on it for a while. As for the tablet, The BT update included new codecs, and brought volume control. I tried on another PC and was able to replicate this i.e. udate BT s/w and the tablt can still connect but no audio is heard. Then I wwent back to the old BT s/w and tried it with Windows 11. Wi11 could see the PCP but it couldn't connect. Event Log says "The mutual authentication between the local BT adapter and a device with BT address (blah blah) failed." So the behaviour is the same with the old and updated PCP BT s/w. After trying out Win11 which I thought had messed up my existing tabet BT pairing, I decided to do an image restore. After that the tablet worked fine. Then before trying out Win11 again tonight I thought it prudent to update BT. How wrong I was! First of all my tablet would no longer connect to PCP. So I deleted the BT pairing on the tablet and did a Forget on PCP. Then I re-paired the tablet with PCP, it reconnected but now there is no music playing to be heard. Do the logs make any sense? OK. I'll see if I can spin up a VM on my Win10 laptop. But meanwhile I've now found that BT seems to be completely hosed on that PCP. It won't even power up the BT controller now. Hi Does anyone have *exact* instructions on how to pair a PCP with Windows11? Hi forum, I hope this question is in scope for this thread although I can see it is mainly about BT connection from LMS to speakers. I would like to BT-stream from my phone to LMS and play the stream on (sync'ed) players (also non-PcP based players like squeezebox boom). Is this possible? Or is it better to use the LMS WaveIn Plugin? Hello! Today I have a very strange Bluetooth problem. This is the 32bit piCorePlayer 8.1.0 on a Pi 3B+ with an external Bluetooth dongle which is working fine since months. When it starts, I can connect a Bluetooth speaker and it plays without any problem. No dropouts or something like that. But when I switch off the speaker I am getting this: 37672 But when I try to switch on Bluetooth nothing is happening. The only solution so far is to reboot the Pi. When I am using a headphone and disconnecting it this is not happening! Hi! Today I installed a Pi Zero W with piCorePlayer 8.1 (32bit) and after several Updates and the Bluetooth installation I managed to get it to work with my Headphone without any problem. Great work! Thank you! Now I have a new player that is named like the connected Headphone. But I also have a player that is named "piCorePlayer" which is the Squeezelite that has no connection to anything. Is it somewhere possible to disable it, so that LMS is not seeing this? I searched the menus but didn't find something. Python server controls GPIO output on received command. Hello, I'm not sure if this is related to the fact that I'm using bluetooth dongle as output to play music or with something else, but I suspect it could be due to the fact that bluetooth dongle is on one player tab and picoreplayer on another..anyway, I'm trying to use pcp CLI to determine status (pcp mode: stop/playing). I need this for a sh script to power GPIO on status play. Problem is when I issue the pcp mode command it states STOP, but music is playing over the bluetooth. Not sure if it is looking for the default picoreplayer tab (which I'm not using since it is standard audio output from the rpi, I0m only using BT). Solved ! i looked at differences between HDMI and D10 configuration in pcp.cfg and i discorvered that also if D10 was working the output was not set in good wat. I forced a differente option and now also bluetooth is working good ! When you set usb, you must manually set the squeezelite output on the squeezelite page. Hi, really GREAT job with picoPlayer ! I have a Rasp 4 with an USB dac D10, all is working good BUT i have no sound from bluetooth phones i connect. I tried 3 phones, all are paired and connected good but no sound from output. If i remove external DAC and use hdmi on TV the audio bluetooth is WORKING ! So i suppose is some settings, seems blu player can't detec usb dac or similar. Simply total silence. Any fast help ? I can add some log if needed but maybe is really an "idiot" question. After I posted the plea for help I realised I was being a wimp, so I went the the Tiny website and read the docs. It wasn't in all honestly that hard to create an extension for the dongle I had (a Ugreen BT5.0 stick based on the RTL8761b chip) and it's working fine right now after following the rest of your guide. Apologies in advance if this isn't the place to ask I'm trying to add a Bluetooth dongle to my Pi 2, but PCP doesn't recognise it (or rather, knows what it is but hasn't got the firmware for it). I've actually got the firmware files, and they work fine under Raspbian on the same Pi. But how do I update PCP (or more likely Tiny Core I suppose) to include the files? A Bluetooth headset connecting to you laptop is different than the laptop connecting to pCP to stream. And the conf file is by design, I dont purge the file. Removing it wouldn't work - it still showed the "Remove" button after going through the process (tried several times). I ended up starting from scratch with the 32-bit version. Eventually got it installed (had to enable IPv6 on my network or else pCP kept showing "Internet/DNS not accessible" and couldn't download the packages through the Bluetooth Install button - not sure why, when individual extensions didn't have issue installing) and got my phone connected as a player successfully. But couldn't get any audio out. I decided to drop it. Switched back to a fresh 64-bit version and using it only for squeezelite now. One thing about the install for bluetooth - several times it failed on certain packages when going through the Bluetooth > Install menu. When it did, I went to Extensions > Available, found the package that failed, and loaded it. Is there any way to increase the buffer between LMS and the bluetooth device? I've got some poor 2.4GHz wifi issues and I'm getting jumpy audio to my Sony BT speakers on a regular basis. I'm currently using a Raspi-Zero-W and I have the most issues if I use the built in BT & Wifi. I've tried an external BT Dongle, but that simply made things far worse. Then I tried turning off the built in WiFI and using an old 2.4Ghz wifi stick. It is a little bit better, but can still be a bit patchy. I've also tried a Pi3 using 5.4 GHz wifi and everything was much better, but I don't have a spare unit to use as a streamer full time. Looking at my WiFi APs I'm seeing a lot of re-tried traffic heading to the pizero. On the raspi side I appear to have a stable wifi connection. The wierd part with all of this is we'll have a couple of days where the BT speakers will work with almost no issues, and then we'll have a couple of days of constant stuttering. Hi All I just updated my Rpi4 setup from using my Synology Nas as LMS server to directly my Rpi4 as server now. Everything is great, the interface is nicer, more modern however, even if not a super big deal, I can't play DSD/DSF files anymore. (I installed the DSD plugin). The player seems to play the file but there is no sound and the DAC doesn't recognize the file anymore. That is the way the system works for me. The first time you need to manually start, but all future connections resume the current playlist. Network streams will likely start at the next track ..it depends on how long your speaker is off. piCorePlayer a small player for the Raspberry Pi in RAM. Hello I just wanted to recycle an 'old' raspberry 3 and piCorePlayer seems to be a great way to answer my needs. My usage is quite simple : throw an audio stream (mainly a deezer playlist or an internet radio) to a bluetooth speaker, and for now it works just fine. Howerver, I'm wondering if it is possible to make it completely automatic (= no manual action needed), depending on the speaker state : - when I switch on the speaker, the audio stream (deezer or radio) is launching automatically - when I switch off the speaker, the system pauses - and so on for now, I always have to restart / reconnect / have to launch explicitely the wanted stream when I switch off then on the speaker. Any help very appreciated (if it is possible and how?)
