Re: Logiciel pour puce M1

2024-06-22 Thread Steven Ahlers
My M2 Notebook runs all of AOO just fine, no need for any added software. The
biggest stumbling block for Mac users is the Gatekeeper that doesn’t allow
programs from outside of the Apple Store environment to run. It’s an easy work
around but is a stumbling block for many Mac users. Perhaps it might be time
for developers to bite the bullet and seek approval from Apple, it isn’t even
necessary to make AOO available through the Apple Store, just make it
recognizable as a safe software for Mac users.

Re: What file format to use for xlsx file?

2024-01-27 Thread Steven Ahlers
Susen,

.xlsx is a proprietary file format for M$’s spreadsheet program. The easiest
way I’ve found to deal with them is to convert them to .ods (open document

Re: Offline translation feature

Without knowing what operating system you are using it is a bit of a
challenge to make a recommendation for an offline translator
application. If you do an internet search for 'Open source offline
translator for [your OS]' several selections will come up. At least one
works with ".odt" files. If you change your default search engine to
something other than go ogle or bi ng (I prefer DuckDuckGo) you will get
better results that aren't skewed to Alphabet or M$ products.

Re: need help, please

2022-11-12 Thread Steven Ahlers
This often happens when there was a hasty shutdown or crash of the computer.
Click on the Apple icon and select Force Quit. Close any program/app other than
Finder that is running. Then look in the folder that you store files in for
files that have ~lock. in their name and delete them (probably just the problem
file). Restart your computer, start OpenOffice, and then open the file.

Make sure you let the program completely shut down before shutting down your
computer. Also get in the habit of saving your files and shutting down
OpenOffice when you are walking away from your computer for extended periods of
time.

Re: Apache WordPad

2022-09-30 Thread Steven Ahlers
Can we help you? Not really unless you clarify your question.

WordPad is a text editor that is a part of the software that comes with M$

Apache has an office suite called Apache OpenOffice. It is available for free

The files that each of these use are stored on your computer, and unless you

Re: Cells

2022-09-01 Thread Steven Ahlers
Sam,

One way of doing this would be to set the Font for the cell to a Font that uses
only Uppercase Letters. If your OS doesn’t already have one installed I found a
website that offered over 350 Uppercase Fonts either for just personal use or
for personal and public use. Many are “Comic” or other stylized Fonts. This
website was the first that came up in an internet search on DDG and was
specifically geared for Windoz. The number available may be different for your
OS. If you want this spreadsheet used on other computers the Font will have to
be downloaded in those computers.

Another way of accomplishing this would be to remember to press the SHIFT key
or SHIFT LOCK key when typing to enter the text into the cell.

Re: open office problem

2022-05-10 Thread Steven Ahlers
Sam,

As previously stated to fix: highlight the problematic cell(s) and choose
Format/Cells/Borders and set borders to what you want them to be.

This happens if you Copy (or Cut) and Paste. This action will pickup all
formatting and paste it into the target cell(s). To prevent this from happening
Copy (or Cut) and Paste Special, this allows you to decide what you actually
paste into the target cell(s).

Re: Freezing a row

2022-03-05 Thread Steven Ahlers
If you want a row or group of rows as a locked title choose the row beneath
that area and go to Window and click on Freeze.

If you want a column or group of columns as a locked title choose the column to
the right of that title and goto Window and choose Freeze.

If you want both a horizontal and a vertical title choose the cell below and to
the right of the titles and goto Window and click on Freeze.

Actually Vince’s (the OP) original question was about 1+ (###) ###- not +1

He also asked about (###) ###- as an alternative. Both were addressed

Re: Formatting for USA Telephone Numbers

Brian,

It does drop a leading zero in the area code. It doesn’t drop leading zeros
from the prefix series or the exchange series. In the USA no area code starts
with a zero so this would be a nonissue.

Re: Formatting for USA Telephone Numbers

2022-02-24 Thread Steven Ahlers
Vince,

If you want the format of 1 (123) 456-7890 simply type in the format definition
box (near the bottom of the pop up menu for Format Cell under the Numbers tab)
1^(###)^###- (where ^ is a space). There is no need for quotation marks.
You can put any text you want when you are defining the format of a number.

Make sure the width of the column is wide enough for all of the characters
otherwise you’ll get the error code ### which signifies a number too wide to
display.

Go back to your backup that was created Wednesday after you created that report.

Going forward to avoid this problem I would create a template of the basic

How are you trying to open your documents?
Are you expecting them in the Recently Opened Documents list? Until you open
them they won’t be there. To populate this list either open the folder
(possibly “Documents”) where you saved them and double click on your files or
start OpenOffice and click on the file folder 📂 icon select the folder you
saved them in select the file and click the Open button.

Re: Opening a .odf file with Microsoft

2021-03-09 Thread Steven Ahlers
John,

Unfortunately Windoz likes to change file associations when it updates. To fix
this Open the Windows File Explorer, the File Folder icon in the Dashboard.
Then open the folder that you have your file in; ie if it’s on your desktop it
will be in the folder “Desktop”. Select your file then click the the Triangle
(down arrow) next to Open and choose Open With. Choose OpenOffice Writer from
the list, check the box for Open All Files With This Extension With This App
and then click the button Open.

Re: New Computer - Microsoft has changed my documents to Word

2021-01-13 Thread Steven Ahlers
Jennie,

The File Association of your documents has been changed. This is something that
Windoz is pretty aggressive about doing. To fix this open the File Explorer app
in Windows System (or the File Folder icon on the Task Bar). In the window for
File Explorer open the folder that has your Writer files in it. Highlight one
of your Writer files and then click on the triangle (down arrow) to the right
of Open. This will bring up a menu of choices of programs to open that file in.
If OpenOffice Writer is not in that list chose “Chose another app” and search
through that list to find OpenOffice Writer, click OpenOffice Writer and then
check box “Always use this app to open .odt files” this will change the file
association on all .odt files to OpenOffice Writer. If you have saved text
documents in other file formats then you will need to change the file
association for those formats as well.

Larry,

Right click (control click) on file, choose Open With, navigate to Writer and
Open. If you want this to happen to all “Word” files then check the box for all

Ron,

Something I neglected in my original response is frequent backups. In OSX there
is a built in app, TimeMachine, that regularly (to whatever frequency you want)
backs up files to external storage. I use an external 1 TB hard drive for
frequent saves (15-30 minute intervals) then a cloud backup for less frequent
(daily to weekly).

2020-08-23 Thread Steven Ahlers
Joelle,

Do you mean an OpenOffice Calc file? If you do mean a M$ Excel file you will
need to go to a Microsoft help site.

Assuming it is a Calc file there are some pieces of information that would help
us help you.

1) Do you get an error message when you try to open the file you’re having
problems with? If so what does it say?

2) What operating system and version are you using?

3) How much RAM does your computer have?

4) What version of OpenOffice are you using?

5) How much memory does OpenOffice have allocated for use?

6) How big is the file you’re trying to open?

2020-07-14 Thread Steven Ahlers
Tom that’s an interesting idea. I would suggest an even more important concept,
practice good computer hygiene: before you leave your computer save all
documents, shut down all programs. Then if there is a power failure no problem.
I would recommend clearing out browser memory (history, cookies, etc.) you can
bookmark websites and use a password manager to easily return to websites on
restart.

This is most likely a problem with your User Profile. It is usually caused by a
too hasty shutdown of your computer. See:

explanations on how to resolve this problem.

Yes, I primarily use my Mac. I guess I assumed that Windoz was the same. Just
tried on my Windoz machine and the choice came up as a printer at the top of
the print dialogue. Thanks for alerting me to the difference.

Re: EXPORTING NARRATIVE FILES

I generally generate PDFs from the print dialogue: from File menu choose Print,
in bottom left corner there’s a button to start the PDF dialogue which allows
you to name the file and where you want to save it.

No help for me on the Forum.....

2020-04-26 Thread Steven
Just an average long-time OO user in the middle of transitioning to new W10
laptop.

When I installed OO on the new laptop, it seemed to go smoothly.

However, my saved docs and spreadsheet are nowhere to be found on in the new
program.

What did I do wrong and what’s the fix to get the new OO to see my previously
saved files?

Any assistance would be appreciated, thanx,

Saving files from email attachments

2020-01-22 Thread Steven Costello
Hi. I have files in email I want to save in AOO but when I hit Save As, AOO
doesn’t appear. Did I install it wrong? I don’t want to re-type all my files.
They are mostly PDF. Thanks. Steve. I think my AOO is 4.1.2 with Windows 10.

Another choice would be to restore from your backup. How to do it depends on

Re: Can you help me??

2019-12-17 Thread Steven Ahlers
Make sure you have downloaded the most recent driver for your printer from
their web site, not just from a disc included with the printer.

Then restart your computer, the change to your operating system from the
addition of the printer driver will not take effect until the system is
restarted.

Next make sure the new printer is the default printer in the operating system.

Then restart OpenOffice and open the file you want to print. Choose print from
the File menu. You should now see your printer and the options available to
control it.

You maybe running into the Gatekeeper of macOS. Once you have the latest update

Re: open office software SPREADSHEETS

2019-10-24 Thread Steven Ahlers
In the Data drop down menu choose:

1) Define Range: give it a one word name, in the Range box specify the first
and last cells
2) Select Range: choose a named range
3) Sort: Options tab—allows you to select options
Sort Criteria—allows you to choose column(s) to sort on and
order in each column

If it produces something you don’t like go to Edit drop down and Undo Sort

This may seem works for simple lists or multi column databases as long as you
define the range correctly.

Yes, it is compatible.

How are you trying to open your files? Are you starting OpenOffice and then
find the Recent File list doesn’t contain the file(s) you wish to open? If you
click on the file folder icon next to Open... on OpenOffice StartUp menu can
you find the file(s) and then open them?

When you click on the Documents icon on the Dashboard or in the drop down menu

locate the file can you open them by double clicking the file icon?

Re: Microsoft works files

2019-10-09 Thread Steven Ahlers
Sandy,

If you still have access to MS Works you can open the files in Works and then
export them in MS Office (Word, Excel) format and then import them into Apache
OpenOffice. Spreadsheets can also be exported in CSV format and then imported.

If you don’t have access to MS Works you can utilize online file converters.

Is a free service that works well.

Any conversions can result in formatting errors so careful proofing is
advisable.

Re: Lost File

2019-08-23 Thread Steven Ahlers
JW,

Right click on the file, chose “Open With...”, chose “OpenOffice Calc” (you may
have to search in “More apps ⬇️”), chose “OK” it should open in Calc. You can
tick the “Always use this app to open [extension] files” box if you only want
this file type to open in Calc.

You can also accomplish this by right clicking on the file, chose “Properties”
click on “Change” and chose “OpenOffice Calc” as above.

Please respond to:
users@openoffice.apache.org
to let us know if you were successful or not.

2019-08-14 Thread Steven Ahlers
Richard,

When you saved it where did you save it to?
What did you answer to the query about updating the links?
What operating system are you using? Assuming you’re using windows have you
searched for the saved files using File Explorer? What was the result?

Please reply to:

Re: Problems with installing open office on the MacBook Air

2019-08-05 Thread Steven Ahlers
This is an issue with the Gatekeeper to prevent malware installation.
OpenOffice downloaded from
https://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html
Is safe. Please read the instructions at the above address or look at the
information at Apple Help on Gatekeeper.

The simplest and safest way to get around the Gatekeeper has been to Right
Click (Control Click) on the OpenOffice icon and follow the instructions to
allow the program to run.

If you have any further questions please address them to the users list address:

Re: Icons

2019-08-05 Thread Steven Ahlers
Randy,

It sounds as though you’ve downloaded from a site that is not the official
site. You should go back on your timeline before you downloaded this bundle of
software.

Then go to:
https://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html
the official site to download the software. When you start the download you
will be redirected to a Source Forge site that is the mirror site that hosts
the download install. DO NOT CLICK ON ANY BUTTONS ON THIS SITE. This will
download the exe file to install OpenOffice which will give you the one icon to
start the program. Once the program is installed you can delete the install exe
file.

Please respond to:
users@openoffice.apache.org
so that all users can help you.

Re: open a single page document on the entire screen.

2019-07-24 Thread Steven Ahlers
Merry,

You need to set the view zoom factor back to normal view. On the bottom right
of the window there is a button to select a view percentage, click on it and
select what view you would like; usually 100%.
