WO5.4 and Java Client

Re: leeches?

2007-10-31 Thread Thomas
Being one of the grumpier contributors to this list, always going on
about how awful the loss of WOBuilder has been, and how Eclipse is a
pain to use by comparison, I have to say a few words.

I think it is absolutely awesome how much work Mike has put into
WOLips, and always with a very high quality, and always moving in a
very useful direction. If we can extrapolate the past couple of
months, in about a month WOLips will be better than the EOLed Apple
tools in every way. Instead of whining about Awful Apple, Mike Schrag
et al threw themselves into doing something about it, with enthusiasm
and determination. By doing so they generated a level of excitement
and optimism that I have never before seen in the WebObjects
community-- and I have been part of it since WO 4.5.

So my comment to the poster who started this flame: start thinking of
people on mailing lists (and contributors to open-source software) as
human beings. What they do is to be admired. If you don't like what
they do, do it yourself. The days are long gone when we could usefully
complain about them (anonymous corporations) and their lack of
responsiveness to our individual needs. We are now empowered in an
unprecedented way-- by our own efforts. If you are not willing to
contribute to this process, please refrain from impugning those who do.

A few clichés spring to mind: if you're not part of the solution
you're part of the problem; if you can't stand the heat, get out of
the kitchen; etc...

Just some thoughts from one of the grateful leeches.

Regards
Thomas

Re: Eclipse/WOLips/EOGenerator Package Installer

2007-10-31 Thread Pascal Robert
Do you want to build a .pkg or do you want to build a standalone IDE
that includes WOLips (à la Aptana and Flex Builder) ? Having a
standalone IDE would allow us to have a custom Welcome screen with
links to tutorial, etc.

Working on a sample Eclipse 3.3.1.1/WOLips
installer..especially for some default settings, included
files, etc.

Included components this far:
Eclipse 3.3.1.1
WOLips (nightly build X)
Saved Eclipse Update Manager prefs for nightly WOLips builds
(Beta) EOGenerator/templates from Apple (per Mike)

WIP:
launchd scripts (canna get the OS to respect the XML files yet...)
for wotaskd + Javamonitor

Designed for - Leopard WO 5.4 (Leopard and WO 5.4 required for
installation)

Please send any ideas/feedback my waythis is really designed
for newbies, but any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,
jeremy

Xcode 2.5

2007-10-31 Thread Timo Hoepfner
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/07/10/30/
piper_on_leopard_sales_google_phone_os_xcode_2_5.html

...
Xcode Developer Tools update

Apple quietly posted its Xcode 2.5 Developer Tools update for
registered members of its Apple Developer website on Tuesday night.

The upgrade primarily addresses security issues in gdb and
WebObjects. A buffer overflow in gdb's handling of TekHex content
could let a malicious file quit a program or run arbitrary code,
Apple said. In turn, the demo version of OpenBase included with
Xcode's WebObjects package was disabled to prevent local users from
gaining potentially dangerous OS privileges.

Developers using both Mac OS X Tiger and Leopard were equally
affected, the company added.

...

I just downloaded the installer. WO seems to remain at 5.3.3 and I
can't find anything regarding changes to WO in the release notes.
Probably it's just the unbundling of OpenBase and the inclusion of
the 5.3.3 (DST) update.

Do not get excited when you read, that Xcode 2.5 can be installed on
Leopard. This won't bring you back WOBuilder EOModeler. From the
release notes included in the image:

...
In general, the XcodeTools 2.5 installer on Leopard does not
install content into the boot volume (except for
GCC 3.3 and distributed build support). In addition, the Xcode 2.5
developer tools versions of performance
tools (including CHUD Tools), Quartz Composer, WebObjects, are not
supported on 10.5 (users should use
the Xcode 3.0 developer tools for access to performance tools,
Quartz Composer, and WebObjects on

10.5).
...
Deprecation Notice
NOTE: As of the release of Xcode 2.4, the Cocoa Java bridge has
been deprecated. This means that, while
still supported with Xcode 2.5 (on Mac OS X v10.4), future releases
of Xcode may not support the bridge or
other dependent features. Due to this, the following additional
WebObjects developer applications are also

being deprecated:
EOModeler
EOModeler Plugin
WebObjects Builder
WebServices Assistant
RuleEditor
WOALauncher
This also means that the Xcode Java bridge templates have been
deprecated, and should not be used for

new Java bridge-based development.

WOLips nightly: generated SQL missing spaces

2007-10-31 Thread Paul Hoadley

Hello,

I'm running Eclipse 3.3.1.1, WOLips 3.3.4565. I've just tried
generating some SQL from a previously good EO model, and I'm getting
code like this:

CREATE TABLE Billable (billable_id int8NOT NULL, charge_gst
varchar(10)NOT NULL, created_on timestampNOT NULL, end_time
timestampNOT NULL, invoice_id int8, meal_break int4NOT NULL,
practice_id int8NOT NULL, rate int4NOT NULL, start_time
timestampNOT NULL, task_id int8NOT NULL, updated_on timestampNOT

Note the distinct lack of space characters in some critical
locations. Known bug?

If you want to use Apple's new parser, your templates need to be well-
formed XML. I believe you can actually switch back to the old style
parser (or use Project Wonder's when the 5.4 build goes up on the
build server), but I don't recall the classname of the old parser

The D2JC stuff still works if you replace the binary in the assistant

it (or reuse the stuff other editors create for you).

What I would love to see is a simple download and install package
for WO developers.
The biggest issue with this is that someone has to host the extra 100+
meg installer for a bunch of leeches to download :) But anyone could
technically make a preinstalled bundle.

Leeches?

Well pal you are obviously part of the problem. Any WO app that hits the
commercial market is a win for you. And to refer to Novices as leeches is
quite distasteful. So you are some high powered developer who has no time
for others trying to bring forth projects. Well sobeit - we leeches will
probably come up with the commercial apps that will succeed. But at least
I have ruled out one person to consider as a partner or a contracted
developer!! But you opinion is appreciated as we leeches try to move

won't be much development going on with the Java client stuff.

Re: State of the Union

2007-10-31 Thread Mike Schrag
Can anyone give a true state of the union write up as to where we
are with tools and the future based up Leopard now released, the
WWDC over with ( and hopefully any NDAs not infringed ) and the
involvement of WONDER etc...

It would be good to have a coherent vision of what we have and where
we are going

Here's my notable bullet point list:

* WebObjects is very much alive. WebObjects 5.4 is the first step in
many years of Apple actually trying to move the platform forward, and
more will come.

* EOModeler is dead and gone. Entity Modeler (from the WOLips
project) replaces it. iTunes Store has also funded us to develop
a .app variant of Entity Modeler that you can run outside of Eclipse.
In the current builds, Entity Modeler.app is able to read IDEA and
Eclipse project files to determine model dependencies. NetBeans
project file support is likely also coming.

* WebObjects Builder is dead and gone. Component Editor replaces it.
This is the #1 point of contention, I believe, as Entity Modeler is a
fairly complete replacement for EOModeler. Component Editor does not
provide the equivalent of the quasi-preview mode (the thing that can
do the table editing with binding wiring). It does provide, in recent
builds, component previews that are very similar (I think more useful,
IMNSHO :) ) to WOB's, extensive support for completion, and there is a
new bindings editor coming that is essentially based on the bindings
inspector panel from WOB (for people who don't want to think about it,
the intent is that this can replace the WOD Editor view). For what
I'm doing, this is the majority of my focus at the moment. Well,
easier-to-use in general has been my main focus for the past few
weeks. I've been really trying to go through the UI's and tighten
things up (the new Entity Modeler error dialog is a good example of
this). I really want to get the tools to a place where WOB people
aren't totally turned off. I don't know how far that will go at the
moment. Thomas has been my grumpy customer benchmark up until now,
but he's been unusually happy recently. As luck would have it, I
think I have found my new grumpy customer benchmark.

* RuleEditor is dead and gone. Rule Modeler replaces it. Again, not
mine :), but it's in Project Wonder, and from what I hear, it's just
better in every respect. I don't think anyone can be upset about this
one.

* Xcode isn't dead, but WebObjects support in Xcode mostly is. The
build system required to build WO projects is still there. So if you
have existing Xcode projects, they will continue to build. The WO
project templates are gone, but like Ray said, you could pretty easily
bring these back. If Entity Modeler gained support for reading
project/framework dependencies from .xcodeproj files (which I had said
I will not do, but if there's some overwhelming support for this, I
might reconsider ... or if someone else wants to donate that, I will
merge it in) you could actually use Entity Modeler completely as an
EOM replacement. WOB is the big missing piece for Xcodies. There is
BASICALLY no way to make Component Editor a standalone app (it
requires too much in terms of Java project dependencies). Given that
it seems to me that the people most likely to stick with Xcode are
also the people who are probably most upset about the loss of WOB,
this presents an unfortunate situation. The way, truth, and light
from Apple is WOLips and Eclipse, though.

* My understanding is that JavaClient stuff is technically still
there, but there's not very good tool support for it. NetBeans
project file support for Entity Modeler would allow the combination of
Entity Modeler plus the Swing designer tools from NetBeans, which
would probably be a good platform to start from for that (Swing
builders in Eclipse I think mostly suck still?).

* JavaMonitor and wotaskd are open sourced in Leopard. I don't know
if this means that there are replacements coming in future releases
and their value is therefore lessened, or if it is just an act of
goodwill from Apple. Either way it's great.

* EOGenerator, EOReporter, and DBEdit no longer work in Leopard.
Apple has provided a replacement to EOGenerator in the form of
JavaEOGenerator. It will be released as an open source example on the
Apple site within a few weeks. In the meantime, Apple has been
gracious enough to slide permission under the table for us to do
release of it for early adopters (see my previous post). The template
format changes (which is to be expected -- EOGenerator was using a
very old Obj-C library for the template system), but other than that
it should be fully compatible with EOGenerator.

* As far as the involvement of Wonder in all of this, for the most
part, the same relationship remains. Some Wonder code has made it
into the core, and presumably other code will in the

[ANN] Maven WOCreator Plug-in updated for WebObjects 5.4

2007-10-31 Thread Jake MacMullin
WOCreator is a Maven plug-in that can be used to create initial Maven
project templates for J2EE WebObjects applications.

Who might want to use this plug-in (or who might want to use Maven)?
People who want to develop for both WebObjects 5.3 and WebObjects 5.4
on any operating system.

People who want to deploy WebObjects applications to a standard Java
application server (without requiring WebObjects to be installed).
This plug-in creates Maven project templates that will build
WebObjects applications as stand-alone J2EE Web Application Archives
(WARs) containing your applications and all the required frameworks.
If you want to deploy your applications to JBoss, Tomcat, Jetty etc
then you may be interested in using this plug-in.

Who probably won’t want to use this plug-in?
This plug-in creates Maven project templates that will produce WARs.
If you want to deploy your applications as .WOAs then you probably
won’t want to use this plug-in.

What has changed in this version?
This release of wocreator contains minor updates needed to use this
plug-in to create maven projects for developing WebObjects 5.4
applications.

The changes are that if you specify -DwebObjectsVersion=5.4 this plug-
in will no longer include java-wo-jsp-servlet-client in the
dependencies as it has been merged with java-wo-jsp-servlet in
WebObjects 5.4.

Also, the top-level pom will specify that Java 1.5 should be used for
WebObjects 5.4 projects. Finally, the top-level pom has been updated
to reference a more recent version of log4j (unrelated to supporting
WebObjects 5.4).

More Information
You can find more information about the WOCreator plug-in (including a
screen cast showing the use of the plug-in) at the project web site:

http://wocreator.sourceforge.net

In order to use the WOCreator plug-in you need Maven 2 which is
included with Leopard. If you are using another operating system, you
can find Maven at:

http://maven.apache.org

OK, last post on this, I promise -- Just for the record, leech was

WO54 install missing WOLaunchURL?

2007-10-31 Thread David LeBer

Hi all,

I followed the instructions in Mike's most excellent The Official
What-I-Did-To-Run-5.3-On-Leopard Post to get my WO 53 apps running on
Leopard. Thanks Mike! I had to correct the permissions on /Library/
WebObjects/Configuration/ - thanks to Art for the logs to make that
easy to find.

It looks like /System/Library/WebObjects/Executables/WOLaunchURL is
missing from the WO54 install (maybe it's not needed, I haven't
checked) but it means that auto-open in browser fails with WO53.

I copied mine from my Tiger snapshot and it's all good.

[5.4 Component Parser]Re: Problem with Leopard - WO 5.4

2007-10-31 Thread Mr. Pierre Frisch
The new parser is only used for the all in one syntax. The old parser
is used for the traditional bundle. The switch is made automatically
when the component loader detect a non existent or empty wod file. A
world of caution about the structure of the templates if you use the
new syntax. The new parser uses SAX and therefore expects the
template to be syntactically xml compliant code. Of course if you use
the traditional parser this does not matter.

Cheers

Pierre

Re: Problem with Leopard - WO 5.4

2007-10-31 Thread Mike Schrag
Are you quoting from 5.4 or 5.3 there? This moved I think to
com.webobjects.appserver in leopard (which is one of the reasons
WOOGNL in Wonder has been a pain to get cross-building). What I'm not
sure of is whether that is the name of the new one or the old one...
There's also WOMLTemplateParser or something like that, and
WOComponentBundleParser. It wasn't obvious which was which.

Re: Problem with Leopard - WO 5.4

2007-10-31 Thread Mike Schrag
This has nothing to do with Project Wonder -- This is the WebObjects
5.4 parser. Project Wonder just happens to have a competing parser
with similar features. Everything I referred to was related to 5.4.
Based on what Pierre said, does the particular template have an empty
WOD file? Otherwise it sounds like you should not be seeing this error.

WAR deployment as SSDD

2007-10-31 Thread Daniele Corti
Hi all,

I'm attemping in the WAR deployment of a almost empty App, just to see if it
is not too complicated using WOLips.

After some digging in apple guides, I decide to look at the build.xml file
and I found out the ssdd target.

I've followed the step to enable this target and finally I've compiled as
ssdd. Ok, I've checked what it copies in the WEB-INF/ directory and it seems
to me that it is the correct tree showed in

http://developer.apple.com/documentation/WebObjects/JSP_and_Servlets/Servlets/chapter_2_section_6.html

I've installed tamcat 5 and I've setted up my app following the directive in

http://wiki.objectstyle.org/confluence/display/WO/Web+Applications-Deployment-Tomcat+Deployment

after this, I lunch the app and in the logs/catalina.out file there is this
error:

Re: Problem with Leopard - WO 5.4

2007-10-31 Thread Jake MacMullin

I guess you haven't seen this email from Pierre:

The new parser is only used for the all in one syntax. The old
parser is used for the traditional bundle. The switch is made
automatically when the component loader detect a non existent or
empty wod file. A world of caution about the structure of the
templates if you use the new syntax. The new parser uses SAX and
therefore expects the template to be syntactically xml compliant
code. Of course if you use the traditional parser this does not
matter.

If it comes to bandwidth, I think we can afford it. I am currently
paying about $5/month for hosting remote server backups. For 5 bucks
my package gives me 100 GB of disk space and 1.2TB of bandwidth (not
sure if they actually allow you to use all that; and not sure about
the transfer speed, as I am using it only to upload stuff). I can
open another such FTP/WWW account dedicated to WOLips if Mike and
others think they need it for the download server. Then there's
always SourceForge... but it doesn't make it easy to post nightly's.

Re: WAR deployment as SSDD

2007-10-31 Thread Dov Rosenberg
If there is an error during startup the WOServletAdaptor is not deployed and
your app will not run. Check your WEB-INF/web.xml to make sure all of the
pieces referenced in the WOCLASSPATH node are available where expected. If
you are using an EOModel make sure the model is available in the framework
search path.

As for hosting, we have a offer for the new Web site, and I can ask

Re: WO5.4 and Java Client

2007-10-31 Thread David Avendasora
Okay, I have the same question as John and Flor, and I don't think
it's been answered yet. For those of you NOT doing regular Java
Client (I guess there a few ;) there have been THREE ways of doing WO
JC development in the past:

1) D2JC
2) NIB-Based using Interface Builder
3) Straight Swing (not using NIBs, rules files, or any other cool,
but depreciated tech)

1 and 2 have be obviously depreciated, even if they can be tricked
into working. That's not the question.

The question is, is #3 still a viable option? Saying either 1 or 2
still work with some hacking only confuses the question. Are the
libraries that maintains the editing contexts on the client side and
their communication back to the server-side UNdepreciated, or is it
included in the libraries depreciated as part of D2JC and Nib-Based JC?

Does anyone have a definitive answer to this? (please don't invoke
curses such as AJAX in your answer!)

Thanks!

Re: State of the Union

2007-10-31 Thread Thomas
Because I'm now the official grumpy customer standard, I think I'd
better pull up my socks and provide some user feedback.

A few months ago I offered to write a document that listed all the
tasks when working with WO components, and how you would do them in WO
Builder, WOLips Component Editor, and (just for completeness because I
used to do this a lot) in Golive. The grand plan was that this could
be a focus for communication between the user and developer
communities, helping the developers to understand how we actually use
the tools.

Unfortunately, in addition to my usual project work, I got involved in
a full-time on-site contract that has only just finished, and I have
not had time to do it. And Mike Schrag has made it even harder by
removing most of my if only WOLips could do this complaints.

Ironically, while on site with the recent contract (a large comms
system vendor, working on JSP and comms plumbing), I managed to
convince one of the RD managers that WebObjects would be useful for
the entire organisation. The reason that it is ironic is that I was
demonstrating WO 5.3 on his laptop, using XCode. He told me later that
what blew him away and sold him on WO was WOBuilder, and how it
seamlessly and visually built on the output of EOModeler. His user
interface designers agreed. He was much less happy with WOLips and the
obsolescence of the Apple tools. But I assured him WOLips was growing
rapidly. In the end, the only way to make him completely happy was to
demonstrate using WO web services as the back end and Flex as the
front end. Once again everybody involved got really excited because
they could use a GUI visual editor to develop the user interface, and
the GUI designers could work pretty much independently of the
application developers.

There is a common theme here, and it is still the one thing I am
missing most from the WOLips Component Editor: the ability to see at a
glance the layout of the component and all its elements, to click on
an element to view all its bindings (defined or not) and edit these
bindings in a separate area. Flex Builder does this beautifully. WO
Builder does it well enough. Mike's latest outline view changes are
awesome, much better in some ways than WO Builder, but it still
doesn't give me the what does it really look like view.

Component Editor's Preview pane may do a lot of what I want (except
tables), but unfortunately almost every time I click the Preview
tab, Eclipse hangs on 100% CPU use.

Mike has already identified the lack of table display, and I believe
he knows all of this stuff already. But as a grumpy customer standard
it's my duty to express it. 8^)

Please note that I am NOT asking for a WebKit-rendered preview of what
the final page will look like. I use CSS heavily, many of my
components are used with many different CSS skins, and I would
rather avoid that complication. However, I really miss tables. There
are times when no amount of outlining will help. For example, when
editing a table showing a list of products, one attribute per column,
with WOStrings for the header and rows, and trying to work out exactly
which td corresponds to the th that describes it. This is very
hard in any WOLips view, and trivially easy on WO Builder. Also
inserting rows (not too hard in WOLips) and columns (very hard in
WOLips) is trivially easy in WO Builder.

Now assuming I had tables in a preview mode that didn't hang Eclipse,
(not being narky, Mike, just telling how it is), there is still one
important thing missing: the ability to change the bindings while in
preview mode.

So here's my wish list:

	- add a bindings inspector that shows all possible bindings of the
currently selected component, with auto-complete when typing values;
	- make a combination of the preview and outline view that allows you
to select a component so you can view/edit its bindings

- add table support.

Now a local cultural reference: Tell 'im 'e's dreamin'! (extra
points for those who recognise the reference).

WOLaunchURL is a command line tool that resides in /System/Library/

I would bet that it's called directly from within WOApplication via
Runtime.exec().

Creating a symlink to open will probably be the easiest fix.

Just tested it in Tiger and it appears to work fine.

Well, I'm not even sure this is part of the startup script -- So WO

Re: State of the Union

2007-10-31 Thread Neil MacLennan

There is a common theme here, and it is still the one thing I am
missing most from the WOLips Component Editor: the ability to see at a
glance the layout of the component and all its elements, to click on
an element to view all its bindings (defined or not) and edit these
bindings in a separate area. Flex Builder does this beautifully. WO
Builder does it well enough. Mike's latest outline view changes are
awesome, much better in some ways than WO Builder, but it still
doesn't give me the what does it really look like view.

I've been taking a look at DreamWeaver's extensibility recently with a
view to helping me with my visual WO development. I've recently
moved to Eclipse/WOLips from XCode and am quite happy -- even with
hand-coding my tags and wod definitions. Although I must say that if
I hadn't had an upbringing on WOBuilder then it would have been *much*
harder to get into the groove of hand building my HTML front end. I
find myself mentally visualising what the page would have looked like
in WOBuilder to help me make sure my hierarchies of webobject tags are
OK! I wouldn't like to to come to this, new, for the first time!

Anyway, my Eclipse WOA development tree lives inside a DreamWeaver
site so that I can use DreamWeaver's templating ability to provide and
update my page furniture as well as WYSIWYG for the non-WO bits
(including tables w!). The trouble is, of course that DW ignores
the WO tags and it doesn't help me visualise my page structure any
better. I figure that whilst I might not get the drag'n'drop-ability
(?) of WOBuilder if I can get DW to at least show my WO tags and their
hierarchy then that's a great step forward and might help others who
work with page designers rather than programmers.

To cut a long story short (although I feel it's too late if you've got
this far) DW is really quite extensible and it relatively straight-
forward to add to its tag library (thereby enabling code completion,
elementary validation etc within DW) and also to create placeholder
graphics to show where WO tags are on the page in a similar way how
WOBuilder did it. Further, although it might be beyond my capability
if it needs C programming, one could create Tag editors within DW
which might offer the library of WO elements to pick from and this
would especially suit the inline style of .wo files rather than
the .html/.wod duo.

Here's my question then before I get too deep into this and find out
it wasn't worthwhile:

Because I'm a recent convert to Eclipse/WOLips I'm a bit new to the
inline binding style (which would suit the plan with DW above) and
don't use it myself yet, I'd like to understand a few things.

1) Can the inline binding style *completely* do away with the wod file?
2) Is this what Apple meant in their update notice for 5.4 when they
said, Combined Component Template Parser that reduces .wo components
to single .html file
3) Are inline bindings for 5.4 only, can I use them in 5.3 (Eclipse
only I think, not Xcode), or are they Wonder only?
4) Anything else I should know that might help me here (or indeed if
someone has done this before, although a google for webobjects
dreamweaver tag library turned up little.)

PostgreSQL 8.2.5.

PostgresqlPlugIn.jar from the WOnder framework.

Is the plugin installed in /Library/Frameworks/?

Yes.

Do you have the appropriate JDBC driver installed?

Yes—postgresql-8.2-506.jdbc3.jar in /Library/Java/Extensions.

I haven't changed any of these since the last time SQL generation
worked correctly. What I have changed is limited to what's listed in

Re: State of the Union

2007-10-31 Thread Thomas

Neil,

I have in the past used Golive for this. It is very easy to define WO
tags for Golive, plus the bindings they need. It also (unlike
DreamWeaver) shows the WO tags as blocks that can be expanded and
collapsed, and a separate binding inspector. (Mike, note that this is
close to what I want!) With DreamWeaver, you only get an image to mark
the start and finish of the block-- if you make the image yourself and
define it in the appropriate XML file.

However, Adobe have now sidlined Golive: after paying over a thousand
dollars for CS3, they want many hundreds more to upgrade Golive. So I
have resigned myself to migrating to DreamWeaver, which for some
reason I never get around to using...

Please see below for my (unofficial, perhaps wrong) answers about
inline tags.

Obviously EOGenerator is looking in the wrong place for my model.
Does anyone recognize my mistake?

WO5.4 UTF-8 code

2007-10-31 Thread Yoshihiko Mori

Hi all,

I updated from MacOS X 10.5 + WebObjects 5.3 to MacOS X 10.5 +
WebObjects 5.4.
When I input the strings of UTF-8 code from the TextField, the strings
became to unexpected code.
For example: When I input the code 0x3044, the code 0xFFFD was input.
All double byte code is changed to the 0xFFFD.

There was no problem before update.
I did not update Eclipse 3.3 and this project files.

Do you have any idea to resolve this issue?

Thanks.

There were UTF-8 / encoding related changes in WO 5.4.

And this is another one: (oops! error)

You'll notice that the order of WOFrameworks in the latter picture is even

I just wondering if I should revert those generic code to avoid those

Okay, I found the reason, but not a good solution yet. Apple
deprecated an API call in the EOSQLExpression and I haven't found the
right hook again to see add the correct statement. I have a quick
hack, but nothing where I can say, that it will work properly.

Pierre, addCreateClauseForAttribute is deprecated without mentioning
what should be done instead. Can you give a hint?

Thanks!

I committed the quick hack in the PostgreSQLPlugin in Wonder for now
as it will not break more at the moment, so a new nightly Wonder build
will probably fix that for now.

A final solution is way more work as the API has changed there.

Deploying WO 5.3 apps on Leopard Server

2007-10-31 Thread Thomas
OK, so I've quarantined the WO 5.4 frameworks and replaced them with
the 5.3 frameworks. I've installed the Wonder frameworks in/Library/
Frameworks. I've installed my application and frameworks, started
wotaskd and Monitor using Server Admin. I've created a new instance of
my app using JavaMonitor. It dies when I try to start it.

wotaskd on port 1085 gives an output that appears right.

When I run my app from the command line using [Path] [Additonal
Arguments] as per JavaMonitor's instance settings (with the addition
of a -WOPort argument), I can talk to it through Apache using
the ...woa/-/... format. Even the mod_rewrite stuff works fine.

So where do I find the logs for the JavaMonitor startup attempt? There
isn't even a /var/log/webobjects.log file, and JavaMonitor is launched
with enough permissions to write into it.

Or better still... any idea why JavaMonitor won't launch my app?

Has anybody else succeeded in deploying a WO 5.3 Wonder application on
Leopard Server?

You need to modify wotaskd.woa/Contents/Resources/SpawnOfWotaskd.sh
to redirect the output of the process to a file instead of to /dev/null.

wotaskd launches it, and you will probably need to look at a
stacktrace to find out why it's quitting.

Thanks, Quinton. I haven't seen that one before.

When I set up a log file for wotaskd, it said it didn't have
permission to run my app. Doh! All is now fixed.
