American end says that they left Sao Miguel on Oct. 5, 1906. So look at

Goto familysearch.org they have the actual immigration cards, with pictures,
for Rio de Janeiro 1900-1965, and Sao Paulo, 1902-1980.
I would suggest that you become familiar with familysearch...they have many
collections available to view online, and if not, you can order the microfilm.
the passport records atop at 1938. Are there records IN the Azores. I
know my grandmo went to brazil after 1964 but think her children went some
time before [ maybe the 30's, 40's 0r 50's]. Is this a dead end?

OK, it looks like they uploaded the passaportes for the 3 ports up to
1938/39. I believe the port of Ponta Delgada goes up to 1954. I'll find my
notes and get back to you after lunch.
