My old 30-1 can do 6 in 15kt of wind. That's half and I pid a lot less than
half of what the new 30 costs.
That said, if I had the boat bucks, I'd love to own the new 30. What a hoot it
would be to race it! I'd gladly stay in the nearby microtel instead of onboard.

get here in STL, the expansion/contraction tends to pull the spline

LIke others, I found the 12-15kt slot to be the sweet spot for the mk 1. I
noted that many took advantage of the extra power provided by 170% gennys for
light air. The downside is that you pay the handicap penalty for all races, so
it's only worthwhile if you live in a light air location.
Our
Most phrf stations have the genny penalty of 3sec/mi for each 10% of overlap
over 155%. So a 165% would only be 3sec/mi.
If you have a lot of light air (under 10kts), it's something to consider for
this boat. You can carry a 155% to over 15kts; just have a bubble in the front

While halyard tension doesn't affect draft as much on the sail as on a dacron
sail, the tension does change the angle of attach of the jib entry. It will
open and close with tension.

For a masthead rigged boat, I thought the #2 (about 135%) was very useful for
racing. It would allow good point when the wind blows and reaches as well as a
150% for reaches from close all the way to beam. DDW of course you loose some
area.

Someone mentioned blade earlier. It was explained to me when I first
purchased one, that it was different from a working jib in that it was about
90-95% of hoist and 100% of J overlap. A working jib was lower cut on the
hoist. The blade was a better racing cut and definitely better for the
