How did the remote die? Common failure mode for these remotes is the connection between the IR transmitter diode and the circuit board. If that's the case with yours, and you have some soldering skills, you may be able to reflow the solder at this connection. -- tcutting

If you have soldering skills, you can check the connection between the IR LED on the remote and the circuit board - this is known to crack. Supposedly re-flowing the solder can fix this (assuming this is the issue). -- tcutting

Did you try at least operating it with the card out? I would suggest doing that before going thru the hassle of getting a replacement. I understand your setup requires this to be wireless, but you should be able to verify the SB3 starts up ok without the wifi card. -- tcutting
