intrigued by this approach! Here in Vermont, I deal mostly with river and
stream crayfish. I catch them by laying a net with a D-shaped frame on the
river bottom behind a particular rock, then 'startle' the critter
are going to distill down to what we
humans value and desire. And that our needs, values and desires are going to

Hi, James. I don't think anyone is calling conservation biology a
pseudoscience; it's 'invasion biology' that is in question. To me,
conservation is different from preservation -- we can't possibly know what a
landscape or ecosystem would look like without humans, but we can be
responsible
source of
discussion for your class.
Science is about objectivity (as much as we can manage, since we are always,
inevitably, part of our own observations and biases), so take every book you
read with a grain of salt and a heavy swig of history.

expectmore.gov website, the ones that explain why the program in question is
deemed 'ineffective.' In some cases, the methods used to gather data are
incomplete or biased, a plan does not exist to effectively
looks to be an
interesting companion to The Skeptical Environmentalist by Bjorn Lomberg; I
will have to borrow it from the library to get my feet wet.

First of all, thank you to everyone who posted a reply to me! For those who
are new to the list or who don't recall, I has asked for book recommendations
for my next and final semseter. My focus will be on exploring the different
aspects of various schools of environmental/ecological
*grin* But, Bill...by removing some of the canopy, it creates dead-fall on the
forest floor, which not only provides habitat for smaller creatures, it opens
the canopy and allows sunlight to reach the forest floor, thereby encouraging
new seedlings to thriveso swing on a birch tree. For
, or under the cooling canopy of a maple tree, have them close their eyes
and...listen. Smell. Touch. And read.
