I think folks should realize something, here. Anytime you begin in a

They have a blue body, which may be thin alloy or plastic, I'm not sure.
One is "smooth and creamy", the other "wire feel", though they're both
identical in markings and appearance. So, they're not all identical in
tactile experience. :)

I use the BHI in my mobile rig and could not live without it. Audio NR
only effects the spectrum going to the speaker and it really can reduce
the hiss.
I am going to look at Dayton to see if they have a stereo version, if
they do I will be bringing it home with me.

"Missing" means that the required files are not in the firmware folder that
you've chosen. See "Troubleshooting Missing Files" in K3 Utility Help.
I'd try pressing the "default" button on the K3 Utility's firmware page and
then click the "Copy New Files from Elecraft" button.

When launching the W1 software, it will always give an error message:
"No W1 found. Please check your computer's COM settings."

The K3 has a lot of receiver gain. You can reduce it to something more
like the gain of a K2 by setting CONFIG menu entry AF GAIN to LO. This
will have no impact on performance.
Have you already tried turning the preamp off? It really isn't needed
on the bands from 160-20 m unless

I had the same experience with an Astron 50A model. I just started doing it
overnight. I opened it up and narrowed it down to hum in the power
transformer. I actually removed it and try to tighten the 4 bolts holding
the lamination of the transformer together. I could get it to change pit

I trust Elecraft engineers have already listened to some elecrafters' comments
as compared with the NR in Icom radios. Elecraft will find ways to improve the
NR by regular firmware updates.
I have no further to add but do suggest elecrafters try the NR in the latest

Yes, Elecraft does have the KUSB USB to RS-232 cable available.
Do NOT plug that cable directly into the K2. You must use the cable
described in the KAT2 manual - connect the USB to serial adapter to the
PC end of the special cable.

was looking in the K2 manual & didn't find it!
