configuration file folder.
You need a folder that a non-admin can create files and write into. The default
folder is c:\Users\yourname\Appdata\Roaming\Elecraft\KAT500 configuration. You

The KAT500 appears to always save the result of an autotune (FT;) to the

I think that having the KAT500 follow the K3 RX frequency is a really poor
system design. The tuner, and the tuner's
Elecraft has revised the KAT500 utiity to fix this problem. VSWR threshold can
now be set to 1.60 for all bands (but is reported as 1.59 due to rounding
issues mentioned in the help documentation). New firmware is available here -

Help me understand something on the KAT500. I have the Elecraft “Dream” setup
as I think it is called with the K3s, KAT500, KPA500, and P3. I love it.
I have trained the KAT500 according to instructions.
My question
Assuming the utility uses the ST command to set each band in turn then I
suspect the utility fails to set all bands because the test for the first band
being set correctly fails due to rounding errors. Once the test fails I suspect
no attempt is made to set the other bands.

Yes, if the tuning solution is the result of an auto tune, then it is
memorized. However if the tuning solution was set manually, then SM; is needed
to memorize that solution for the current frequency.

ATU settings found by tune are stored without pressing the button. If you
create an atu setting yourself, using the radio buttons for inductors and
capacitors, you can save it with that button.

Jack, I had a similar thing happen and it turned out to be a tree branch had
grown into the antenna path and when on high power the antenna was arcing to
the tree branch. Might not be a tree branch but look for any signs of possible
arching in the antenna, feed line or connectors.

You may be right on the KPA. This sounds like a TR issue. Call tech support on
Monday and discuss it with them.
In the mean time, I may be able to help further the diagnosis - use the KPA
Utility to gather a fault log and send it to me.

Look at your Icom 7600 documentation. I believe the 'keyword' may be
"Send" or Keyout or something of that nature (PTT should be an input to
the transceiver, not an output, but some manufacturers mix them up
causing confusion - check the documentation).

Just received my the kap500 and found out it was missing the accessory cable
which goes from the icom 7600 to the kat500. Elecraft is sending one but it
might take a week. In the mean time does anyone have the accessory pin outs to
rca plug so i can make one and use my new toy.
