opening a browser or opening a new web page (if the bus is set to
Normal) that causes the audio dropout. With the Bus set at Safe Mode
Level 2, the problem goes away (at least for opening a new web page). I

You are having DPC issues.
First of all, make sure you are running the latest drivers for your network
stuff, etc. You can find loads of help on the archived pages and the Flex
KnowledgeCenter on addressing DPC issues, just do a search.

Yes, I did read the release notes, but never had a problem before that I
thought needed a closer read.
I checked the FlexRadio application that checks the firewire card, and
it recommeded the Lowest Latency setting until I fired up my browser.

Computer is Asus m/b M4A78-VM - processor is 3.1g AMD Phenom(tm) II X2
550 Processor Socket AM3 (938)
with 4g ram - radio is Flex 3000
This system has been running well on W7 ultimate with dpc count of less
than 100us
are having with W8.

not associated with the Herc drivers. The pal.dll is a FlexRadio

The Hercules DJ controller is not supported in any official release of

Thanks for all the help; the problem has been resolved with assistance from
Neal and Stu and others. The FlexControl is working perfectly and my CPU
utilization is down from ~60% to ~20%.
Nothing radical; just a good cleanup of the system.

Com0com normally installs very cleanly. Proper install and configuration
can be validated through the device manager in the control panel. It has
its own heading.
If you had download problems with com0com and fldigi, I would start by
de-installing fldigi and com0com after a clean download.

I noticed last night that, when attempting to use ANT 3 as an antenna selection
on my Flex 5000a with the ATU and RX2 options installed on the 160 meter band,
the receiver performance was degraded by about 30 dBm compared to using Ant 1
