Are you using a Pismo? If so, you can simply plug in a USB mouse and
USB keyboard, and with the external monitor connected, boot the Pismo
using the USB devices with it closed. Hope this helps,

I just replaced the top case on my Pismo due to a malfunctioning trackpad.
Now, the trackpad works fine but when I close the lid, the PowerBook doesn't

If anything, I'd suspect that the switch is bad and corrupting
